Beautiful setting, much like a high end resort with luxuriant plants and vegetables surrounding. Great food and top notch service. Highly recommended for a relaxing meal.

Will be retuning as soon as possible! Our expectation for a modern, elegant and refined offering was exceeded during our visit to The Yard. Met with fresh ingredients growing in the scenic Garden and naturally-lit interior, the service was of exceptional quality from the moment we arrived. An exciting and well-considered menu was accompanied by a fantastic selection of wines and cocktails. The dishes were inspired and flavours delicately balanced, its clear that value is placed on bringing the most out of the highest quality ingredients. We were taken aback with the ability of the chefs and felt that every part of our experience, including the service was very well practiced. We were extremely happy with our experience and will no doubt be returning regularly. A wonderful evening from start to finish!

I started with steak tartare which was good, but different from the traditional version since it was smothered in sauce. The cod main was excellent and the cheesecake pudding was OK, but rather artlessly covered in sugar. The interior is very bland and unimaginative, but the staff were perfectly pleasant. By far the biggest problem was the loud music. We had to strain our voices to make conversation. Eventually they turned it down at our request, but it still remained on, and continued to be irritating. It was obvious that the music was for the benefit of the young staff rather than the elderly customers. High-quality restaurants never play music at all, and I hope the owners will put an end to it. There’s no point in keeping your staff happy if your customers have to suffer.

The Yard Castor is an outdoor restaurant that is connected to the main pub The Chubby Castor. They provide outdoor seating during the summer and a small indoor seating area in case of unfavorable weather. From the moment you are greeted by the staff, you are treated to a five-star dining experience and the staff were exceptional. The Yard places a strong emphasis on sustainability. They take great interest in the origin, sourcing, and ethical considerations of the ingredients they utilize with a guiding principle that "food is health." They exclusively use seasonal fruits, vegetables, and meats. You can see a wide variety of fresh produce growing in their garden, which makes up about 70% of their produce. The remaining 30% comes from reliable and environmentally responsible partners. We visited on a Sunday afternoon for lunch when it was not too crowded, and I must say, it was one of the finest roasts I have had in quite some time. Accompanied by two companions, I started with the individually priced Rock Oysters, which were served fresh on a bed of ice. One of my companions opted for the BBQ Pork Belly, which was so delectable that we decided to order another serving. It was cooked to perfection and elegantly presented on a small plate, garnished with sesame seeds. The main event was the Roast Sirloin, roast potatoes, carrots, greens, Yorkshire pudding with a side of Truffle Cauliflower Cheese. My roast was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Although there was a slight delay in receiving our food, it was understandable as the Head Chef was personally overseeing the preparation of each dish. The attention to detail and care that went into crafting our meal was evident in every delectable bite. For dessert, I went for Rhubarb Frangipane Tart which was delightful. It achieved a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness. The combination of flavors was harmonious, and the texture was moist and satisfying. My companion opted for the Chocolate Mousse, which featured several unexpected ingredients such as honeycomb, popping candy garnish, thyme and a balsamic glaze. The combination of these elements resulted in a delightful symphony of flavors that complemented each other exceptionally well. The culinary offerings at this esteemed establishment, nestled amidst the picturesque countryside in a charming village, are simply beyond words. For those seeking an exceptional fine dining experience, this restaurant stands as a beacon of excellence, showcasing locally sourced produce transformed into exquisite dishes with meticulous attention to every detail. The staff, highly trained and exceptionally courteous, go above and beyond to ensure an unparalleled dining experience. Without a doubt, this establishment has set a new standard for Sunday Roast, surpassing all previous encounters I have had. It will be a formidable challenge to find another establishment that can match the extraordinary level of The Yard.

My wife and I went for a meal when it reopened a couple of weeks ago and were so glad we did. Remembered why we loved it so much last summer. Food is great, service with a smile and a special genteel atmosphere. Loved it.

Let it be said that I am disgusted to have heard about the level of disrespect towards someone I care deeply for. It's simply appalling because it is NEVER justifiable to behave in such a way. If I could give 0 stars I would! 😠

Enjoyed our first visit to the Yard Castor, which is the garden restaurant behind their main Chubby Castor restaurant. We had lunch - ordered bbq octopus, butternut squash and chickpea pie for our starters, and cod cassoulet and a ribeye steak for our mains. Biscotti cheesecake and chocolate mouse was a nice finish. I liked that they don’t put too much sugar in the deserts - it was well balanced, they use fresh natural vanilla beans for an unsweetened whipped cream etc. Very quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The service was great! Did not catch our server’s name - a guy with tattoos greeted us upon arrival, told us about the menu, and was very attentive during the whole lunch. It was a test visit, so we’ll definitely return back for a full tasting dinner at the main Chubby Castor restaurant.

Most expensive disappointment I've ever made, save time by buying a grim takeaway, and flush a couple of hundred quid down the loo.

It was a milestone birthday lunch with three adults and three kids all under the age of four. Sara's service was excellent from the start of our dining experience. Unfortunately they didn't have anything on their menu for kids but the chef was kind enough to whip up a delicious chicken meal for the kids. Kids were hungry and impatient, Sara suggested we walk around the garden and show the kids the vegetables growing in the small allotment in the Yard. The outdoor toilets were super clean! Our food was top notch, good wine selection to choose from, we enjoyed our bottle. The birthday cupcake was lovely. Thanks to Sara and the tram, we look forward to dining at the Yard again.

The whole experience is fantastic. We chose the tasting menu with the wine. Every single dish has explained in detail and the reason behind the selection of the wine. The food was amazing.

Visited Saturday afternoon for a cold drink and scone. Wanted to sit outside as it was such a nice afternoon. The only free table was literally stacked with dirty plates, glasses, cups, cans. I went inside and although the entire place was empty EVERY table was also stacked with dirty crockery!! Half eaten meals, flies everywhere. One of the tables outside became vacant so I ordered my coke and scone and asked that the table be cleared.. A very reluctant lad came out and cleared the debris, didn’t bother to wipe the spilt salt, ketchup and general mess up. Another customer was loading dirty plates from her table onto another but still nobody bothered to clear up. My scone came out like molten rock,it had clearly been zapped too long in the microwave. When it had cooled down enough to hold I tried to cut the scone,it was rock hard. By this time the staff were out enjoying the chaos that was happening in the grounds of the cathedral and clearly weren’t interested in customers. Definitely won’t be returning, the whole place was dirty.

Visited here today, we did not feel welcomed the bar lady seemed in a rush very quickly spoken and short sentences, rushing about, when she did serve us at one point had her head resting on her hand, I would not expect this sort of service! food was ok small portions compared to other green king venues. We would not recommend this venue based on our experiance - not feeling welcomed was the main issue.

Chicken screws were nice, soft and juicy! Then restaurant was getting busy and the Seabass with new potatoes were pan fried but a bit over cooked.

We had booked a table and four of us enjoyed sitting outside at the rear of the property for lunch. The pub has a incoherent system of routing you out to the side of the building to the patio attge rear, rather than straight through the building, where you see a no entry sign on the chair. Made no sense at all, just irritating. We ordered from a good choice of mains, small plates or starters. I really enjoyed a vegetarian aubergine dish, with breadcrums and garlic bread. Othere had burgers and peri peri chicken. Staff were mainly friendly. They hold your credit card as a means of ensuring people pay.
