A wee gem. Love The Mill Cafe, their coronation chicken is my favourite in a panini with cheese too. The volunteers are so friendly and it has a real community spirit. Cakes are also fantastic. They are also good for group bookings as you can order in advance. Just let them know a few days before and they'll get you sorted. I've found that particularly useful for lunches with my colleagues as it helps us fit our gathering into our lunch hour.

Very nice quality coffee and cakes served by friendly staff. For me prices absolutely fine (although I appreciate being Scottish I should really complain!).

Food is enjoyable however the prices are expensive particularly when you consider that everything is homemade by volunteers!! I realise that the proceeds go towards the community nevertheless the prices in my opinion are too high. We will not be returning which is a shame.

After a long walk from Edinburgh to Balerno via Union Canal and Water of Leith - this friendly wee cafe was a welcome stop!! Nice coffee and really tasty cheese scones - served by smiley volunteers and at a reasonable price. Cake selection looked fab - hope to visit again soon to try them out!

This is where you have a local, relaxed atmosphere. Where everyone knows each other and strangers become friends. Very reasonable priced limited fair but quickly serviced by local volunteers and with a smile. Don't expect an a la carte restaurant, as this certainly isn't. It's a large church owned hall, with a kitchen on site. Where local baking, is matched only by the local get togethers. If you're new to the area and wanting to know more about it, I'd recommend a visit

Another of Balerno's secret delights! This community cafe is a jewel. As well as the usual hot and cold drinks, there is a wide range of delicious cakes, pastries and scones. Various soups are available and lunch dishes. The venue is large and obviously very popular with local people. Well worth a visit. You will not be disappointed!

What a busy place! 50-100 people they serve, usually, and yet the atmosphere is anything but frenetic thanks to the super volunteers. Delicious soup and there are sandwiches and salads etc. Nothing fancy. Just what you want for a simple lunch. It's fair trade too. What an inspiration to other places this community cafe is.

The food here is prepared and served by I presume volunteers, it's attached to the church and I assume profits go to the church. The place is not open every day. I think it's a Thursday that it's shut. Very good service and food. No hesitation in recommending it. More cafe than restaurant, but hot food, soups etc. are served.

We had a takeaway in Nov, 24. Cost us £63. It was awful. Sorry, but that is the truth. The Mangsho Roti at £16.95 was inedible. Very bitter and sour. It went in the bin. The chicken pasanda was tasteless. It too went in the bin. We will not be buying anything from here again.

i’ve lived in edinburgh and london and between the two places this was one of the most delicious meals i’ve had out omg. i’m vegan i had the tofu pho (if you don’t eat meat then specify this because the default broth is meat based) and also tried the lotus leaf sticky rice and tofu. both were amazing. both the cocktails were also incredible (the lychee margarita and the lemongrass mojito). highly recommend

Or son enjoyed it but not somewhere I'd go with a group of adult friends. Food was nice if you have sweet tooth but expensive for what it was. Thought the discretionary £22 service charge for three of us was a little cheeky too (especially as people's plates were cleared when others were still eating at the table 😶).
