We visit the cafe often as it makes a very good meeting place with of course the bonus of nice cake and fabulous plants. Today was not a good day to go as they are having some work on the buliding. My goodness was it noisy! They were working on the roof right above our heads made it almost impossible to hear ourselves talk. Anyway we did call the manager over who we have to say was very opologetic after listerning to our moaning he offered us a complimentary drink which we accepted .Julie who served us again said how sorry she was which was a lovely way for them to address our complaint . Will go again but may wait until the work is completed.

We go to this useful cafe quite often with an elderly relative. We enjoy the food and the staff are pleasant. It is a bit complicated queuing for food at various points but never a problem as one of us queues and the the other gets the elderly relative seated. Plenty of space for her walker near the table, which is a plus. One "problem" - and I did contact Millbrooks Garden Centre about this in January but did not receive any reply - in order for a 90+ year old, or a disabled person, or someone less able in some way to get to the Cafe they are forced to navigate a sort of maze of wooden tables where lovely plants are for sale - there is no short cut from the back door of the garden centre to the cafe. My relative, with her walker, has to walk around the maze, when walking in a straight line and then turning left to the cafe would save a lot of physical effort. After navigating all that the less able are forced out into the open in all weathers for a walk to the slope that leads into the cafe - able-bodied users can use the handy steps to get there quicker!! Mad design. Not good in bad weather. I asked staff on a previous visit whether we could just leave the cafe by a different set of doors nearer to the disabled parking spaces in the car park and was told that the doors are not in use! So simple to sort this problem. It won't lead to a drop in sales of plants as what I do is to pop off once we have finished eating so that I can find plants whilst my relative has a nice sit down with her coffee. I did see wheelchairs that could be borrowed on a previous visit, but not everyone likes to be pushed about and I did not see them on this visit. So I would say "yes" come for the food and the convenience and the cleanliness and the very nice loos but if you have mobility problems come on a day when you feel up to the walk (not far for the able-bodied but tiring for those less so) and it is not raining. The garden centre is lovely and has lots of useful items and lovely plants. Well worth a visit.

A group of six of us were in the garden centre planning a proposed landscaping job for the family. One of the group said the cafe made great cake so we stopped shopping and had a light snack. There was a good range of cakes, sandwiches, scones and biscuits. We noted there was breakfast available (this was 11:00am), the pot of tea and various coffees were also of good quality. We were pleasantly surprised at the range and quality for a garden centre.

We have always enjoyed the nice cafe and although there have been past hicups we still go back.Obvouisly thing have had to change due to Covid 19. i cant work out why we can no longer have a pot of tea. The reason given was to cut down on extra handling which I kind of get but in that case why cant the tea pots be placed where the self service mugs are and we can make our own. Seems simple to me. Also find it frustrating that its card only. When did cash not be legal tender! Maybe someone forgot to tell me!

*This review was originally (and mistakenly) posted against the old Green Cafe account.* On 1 September we booked out the function room at the Mill cafe for my son's Naming Day. In the run up to the event, Caron was an absolute star. Nothing was too much trouble and she made a lot of helpful suggestions to ensure the space was used to it's full potential. The space itself is great - light and airy and would be excellent for any kind of event. We had 40 guests and there was ample room for them to sit down and enjoy an afternoon tea once the official bit was over with. On the day itself, I cannot praise Caron and her team enough for their help and professionalism and everything went incredibly smoothly. The food was delicious (the scones are amazing!) and we had so many compliments from the guests about how lovely the afternoon had been. Caron even helped facilitate the children visiting the butterfly exhibit within the garden centre - she was a godsend!

My main issue is the tea and it lost a mark simply because the previous place in the garden centre main room itself use to serve tea in better teapots and supply better cups. I tend to go for the self service mugs now as a result of the fact that I do not like the teapots !!!!!! Harsh but its just my opinion. Its not cheap but on the other hand its not expensive either. This new restaurant has a lot more room and the toilets are far superior to the individual one that use to serve everybody !!!! It is a great deal more comfortable and I cannot stress this enough; although if it is raining - you have to go outside to access it once entering Millbrooks. However there are Umbrellas. There are various rooms and there is always a quiet spot. There are also outdoor tables and chairs now which is great when the Spring/Summer/Autumn months are with us.

Visited as a birthday/Christmas treat with a friend, staff were welcoming and showed us to the table. Beautifully set out and arranged for pots of tea to brought over. Within 5 minutes the cake stand arrived fully laden with sandwiches, scones and cakes. Staff were excellent and ensured tea was suitably topped up and everything was ok. The scones were warm, huge and so tasty! We were advised that there were boxes available should we wish to take anything home. Such a great spread we both took a piece of cake and mince pie home for later. Excellent value and staff made us feel welcome and special too.

The tea was huge and delightful, though thoughtfully were were provided with takeaway boxes...my tip would be to enjoy the sandwiches, but hold fire on the delicious sausage rolls (I enjoyed mine later in the evening!), so as to allow room for the delights to follow - scones, jam and cream, cake, mince pies and trifle! Our table was laid out beautifully including a green bottle of elderflower presse which was included in out Tea, we were also told we could take it home if we didn’t want or finish it. We both had coffee and when I went up and paid for another later on Caron, our waitress, apologised for not replenishing our drinks and promptly gave me a refund and then brought the coffee to our table! The tea itself was delicious and very generous in size, when Caron noticed we were struggling she promptly brought us take away boxes so we could enjoy the rest at home. The whole experience was excellent and we were never rushed to leave. Thank you Caron for making our regular Christmas get together so enjoyable. The gammon looked si unappealing that i ordered cod and chips with mushy peas. Cod - batter oversalted. Chips appeared to be the cheapest frozen quality. Mushy peas strangely tasted of nothing despite glutinous texture . From a dehydrated packet mix? The 'chefs' definitely aren't tasting the food and the managers and owners definitely aren't eating there. Overpriced, terrible food in surroundings like a university canteen. The Mill at Millbrook Garden Centre is a new bigger upmarket replacement of the Green Cafe which we have been visiting for several years. The building, kitchens, toilets and eating areas are all new. The food menu has been expanded and the food we had was of a very good standard, in fact everything looks at first glance to be an improvement. However, the prices seem to have increased, the way the inside eating areas have been decorated make the noise level very high, the walls, floor and ceilings all have a hard finish with nothing to absorb or dampen the noise. With 2 tills to contend with on two different counters it can be confusing. All in all we preferred the old Green Cafe, therefore only an average rating.

I recently had a nice meal at The Mill served by a lovely lady called Jan. The food and the service were good, however the food does feel overpriced for a reataurant in Gravesend

The new restaurant The Mill at Millbrook's is considerably larger than the old Green Cafe and as such the cosy feel to it has now changed. The Meet and Greet lady Caron set the standard for the service we received - very helpful and friendly ! We dropped in for coffee and cake which were both very good. Have yet to try the breakfast at the new restaurant but will be giving it a go before to long.

As regular visitors to the cafe that was previously at Millbrook, we went to have a coffee in the new restaurant this weekend. My son wanted a jacket potato, so after a while of trying to see if there was any other menus up except for what looked like a specials board, I asked a member of staff. She said you can get them on the deli counter. The only option was a brie and bacon jacket for God knows how much based on the other prices for a tiny piece of quiche. We had a look at the soup, £5 for a small bowl and bread!! The hot food was all out on display, so no longer cooked fresh as before, and the prices were extortionate. My son chose a brownie but once we found the place to pay we walked out as the queue was huge and the cost of the brownie £2.50. Maybe Millbrook are charging so much so that they can pay for the huge building. It would appear that they've got greedy and spoilt something that was working really well (the previous cafe) and at the same time losing existing customers. I feel sorry for all of the pensioners who may not be able to afford to use the cafe (you can't really call it a restaurant). Millbrook should realise they are in Southfleet not Chelsea!

Lovely restaurant, the staff are super friendly. We've been for breakfast a few times, it's a buffet style although served, 5 items for one price type. You can request alternatives and the chef is always willing to oblige.

Went here for coffee and scones. Scones were not good, hard and over baked. They have stopped doing local things like Bread pudding and gypsy tart. Just large cakes that you get a slice of. Overpriced and really crap Off my list of coffee shops now.

We use to love a coffee and a sandwich after a short browse around the garden centre. The cafe has been revamped to a restaurant and it’s crap. You now have to go outside, getting wet, to get in. Snacks are no longer made to order and the food is expensive.

We had lunch here today, it was only our second visit here since the new restaurant opened. On Both visits we’ve had very good food, but it is expensive although the quality was quite high. Service is a little slow when busy because of the way the tills are set up but I’m sure the management will identify this bottle neck and sort it. It always takes time for a new restaurant to get up and running properly so I’m sure it just a matter of time before they get it working well.

Arrived to find a queue out of the door with lots of grumbling going on in front. Could see everyone was waiting for the coffee machine. Most annoyingly having queued for the coffee machine and got a coffee when I walked around the corner there was a lovely coffee bar being shorter hadn’t been able to see over the centre section. Then to top it all the free coffee has now stopped unless money is spent on food. (This was a big moan from the elderly)No soft seating area down stairs and no obvious area for young children like there was in the smaller restaurant. Could be upstairs but wouldn’t be a easy option dragging the young ones up stairs. I pick my garden centre on the basis of the coffee shop

Very confusing layout. Not much choice, very expensive £9 for Jacket potato that was nuked to rubber in the microwave. You can do self service tea and coffee but this was all confusing with machines to work, we then discovered you can get drinks made by them so thought this would be better only to discover you have to pay for it at one counter and queue up for it again. By the time you get it to the table your food is cold.

I agree with other reviews I was there today with my mum and the prices were too high. Jacket potato £9 no choice only bacon and Brie. We had a cheese and onion sandwich which was very dry and at £4.50 it was poor. You got it in a cardboard box and that was it. So two coffees and two dry sandwiches came to £14.40! There is plenty of space and it’s a nice new building but I won’t be going back in a hurry.

What a shame. As other reviewers have mentioned food is not great and astronomically priced. 1 sandwich - £6.50, slice of cake plus coffee £12.10 I'm total. Sandwich very dry and on white bread. Not enjoyable. However venue spacious, airy and clean. Would love to give more stars but the food price needs to reflect quality.

Our recent visit to the newly renovated restaurant left us very disappointed. The staff were all very helpful and the restaurant itself was very spacious and clean as you would expect, the main issue was the actual quality of the food which I would best describe as being average is being sold at a premium price. To put it into context the quality of the fish and chips at £12 that I had was on par with the local Sainsbury's restaurant fish and chips at £6.00, unlikely to return anytime soon.

Well the name change hasnt helped at all. We have been regular customers for years. We visited today and sadly its unlikely we will return. Its big yes but so noisy almost to much to stand added to no air con! How silly to spend a huge amount on a building and not put in the basics for customer comfort. Its early days yes but menu change is too drastic . Cant have a sandwich made up to personal liking and as I dont have butter I now cant have a sandwich at all. Also we didnt see menu for light lunches like jacket potatoes and the price increases again to much. Pot of tea for one gone from £1.99 to £2.40. Ok its loose tea now but not worth the extra. We had two teas two slices of cake £11.30. Could have a pub meal for that. Shame we will miss our old cafe.
