The Midland Free House in Stockport

Didn’t quite hit the spot for us, husband had the burger which could have used a bit more filling not very good value for money. I had fillet steak which was good but came with a shallot ! and a few mushrooms which were quite rubbery, we used to get a nice grilled tomato and field mushroom with steak. Menu I think needs an overhaul, bring back the classics! Service was excellent though and Andrew is a great asset!

We had a lovely evening at The Midland, the food was delicious and Andrew our waiter was very helpful and friendly. We are looking forward to our return visit.

Went for Sunday roast on Easter Sunday. Nice atmosphere and attentive staff. Roast was delicious , well presented and within a good time frame. Thank you to all at the Midland.

Me and my partner came in for a late meal on the bank holiday Saturday. Accommodated perfectly by Andrew and team. Food was cooked to perfection and we will definitely be visiting again! 😃

I went here for some dinner after work as I was in the area. The building is beautiful inside and out, the exterior and surrounding environment - lovely and cosy. The interior design, space, layout, and lighting is cosy and warm, but welcoming too. As for the food - hmm delicious! I had the scallop starter and the sea bass main - cooked to absolute perfection, served with a chilled glass of white wine - very refreshing. I was served by Issy and Dec who were friendly, smiley, and hospitable always. I'm looking forward to returning, next time I'm in the area.

This was our second visit here and it definitely won't be our last. The food is incredible and the staff are excellent. Would highly recommend the roast dinners.

Three of us had steak which was cooked perfectly. However my chips were very bitty and dry (by bitty I mean most were scraps indicating last of a batch). The accompanying items were very odd - a strange straggly uncooked mushroom and an uninteresting shallot. I remember the days at The Midland when steak used to be served with half a plump grilled tomato and a grilled mushroom and an onion ring. I agree with another reviewer who has commented on too many little pans with handles - a complete waste of time, and crumbs in the bottom of ice cream, which I had at another meal last year. Also, what did happen to those nice cold chunky glasses? I appreciate that prices have soared, but that aside The Midland has changed a lot of things for the worse in my opinion.

What a beautiful little place! Very stylish and cosy. The food was absolutely amazing and reasonably priced. We had the king prawn and crab linguini with scallops and the maple glazed belly pork with scallops. Both fabulous. The staff are very helpful and attentive. There's a very nice ambiance about this place.

We visited here after a walk with the dogs and needed a much needed roast and we were not left disappointed. Bottomless gravy was an added bonus too. I had the duo of beef and it was super tender and cooked to perfection.

Always a favourite of ours and never disappoints, the service and food are very consistent and we love when we can grab a window seat.

We spent our valentines here and everything was perfect, the ambience and the live singer was a special touch. The staff were incredible, very attentive but not too intrusive with it being valentines. And the food OMG!!

Really nice looking place waitress was so nice and friendly! However sadly the food was so disappointing and so expensive, we had a voucher otherwise we would have probably refused to pay. I had the fish cakes which were nice enough, the chips were very dry and tasted stale. My partner had the steak sandwich which was dry and over cooked, his chips were also stale tasting. We had the deal so ordered dessert, the cookie and ice cream. I expected it to be a warm cookie or at least soft but it was bone dry and cold, I had to crumble it over the ice cream to make it edible. The waitress was so so friendly and lovely I hadn’t the heart to say anything about the food to her hence this review. We won’t be returning sadly

Anna our table waitress was very attentive and polite. We were able to change our alloted table as we wanted a window table without any problems . The food was very good and ambience great on a cold rainy day.

Our server Katie was absolutely lovely, came with my family for Christmas dinner and she took such good care of us along with other staff. Absolutely loved everything about this place, as soon as you walk in it feels super festive & a great welcome from the host. We had crackers on the table which was lovely, we wasnt going to go for the festive menu but this made us choose this and we were glad we did! All three courses were fabulous.

Came here as we were let down by another restaurant last minute and what was stressful turned into a great time with family. The staff were super accommodating and we couldnt have been happier. A banner and card was on the table when we arrived which was really thoughtful. We cannot thank them enough and cannot wait to go back.

Just visited for their famous brunch with Santa event & I have to say it really is as good as everybody says it is! Father Christmas was excellent with our 5 week old & made it a really special memory for us. Our server Katie was polite & professional & nothing was too much trouble. A dream waitress! Atmosphere, food, staff and service was all 5 star. Megan and James served us and they were really friendly and very attentive. The chefs were Tom and Emma and all the food they produced was excellent from the burgers to the seabass.
