The Mermaid Beach Cafe in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Popped in for ice creams and to our delight spotted GF cones. No big deal if you do not have Coeliac’s Disease, but if you do, so many everyday treats and ordinary foods are not available to you. Even more impressed when the scoop was washed before serving us. Simple things these but it made a huge difference to us and I am very happy to give top marks to the Mermaid for being aware and considerate. We will return.

Really delicious sandwiches, perfect location on the beach. It was busy but didn’t wait long. Delicious lemon and pistachio cake.

We were fortunate to visit Gorman Haven just as the weather changed for the better in May. It’s a quaint cove with a very convenient cafe. The cafe sells snacks, beverages, ice cream, basically anything you want. There are seats provided outside and there is the beach if all else is taken.

Excellent coffee, tasty pasties and muffins and friendly banter with the owner. Great place, even in the rain!

Loved this little cafe right on the beach. Delicious hot coffee served by friendly staff. Perfect place for a coffee stop with a seating area having perfect views of Gorran Haven beach.

Just popped in late afternoon. Plenty of choice. We had a gorgeous sausage roll and the coffee was ace followed by some ice cream. Friendly service and excellent prices. Definitely will come again.

We were regular visitors here during our recent holiday. Great for coffee, pasties and ice cream and right by the beach. Very busy as it is one of the only places for food in the village but worth the wait.

Good for a morning coffee just on the beach so very handy, had a few sandwiches from here very nice fresh and good quality plus value for money at £4/£5 each. Would have been a four star but the service wasn’t great. Only 2 people in front of me getting coffee’s but it took ages to get served. Served one person then in the back for 10 minutes making their drinks, another member of staff was in the back but didn’t pop out to help as the queue behind me grew. No sorry to have kept you waiting ect just ignored the queue.

Visited last week during very high winds!! Beautiful location, friendly gentleman serving. All pasties sold out...except vegan which I wouldn’t usually pick as first option...but it was the most delicious pastie I have ever tasted!! 😋

Lovely staff, helpful and friendly. We popped in at 14:30 on a Saturday, they checked what the had in stock for sandwiches and made fresh with no fuss. Nice location, lovely ice cream.

A perfect haven for our stop over refreshment between Portloe and Mevagissey. Freshly made sandwiches, cakes, and grapefruit SAN Pellegrino. Thank you for making us feel so at home - and filling our water bottles too! We'll be back.

Popped in after a long walk as we needed a drink. Had a wonderful cup of tea at a very reasonable price. Seemed to have a good selection of snacks & ice creams and is extremely well situated for the beach.

From the varied menu we enjoyed excellent coffee, pasties and a cream tea. A popular cafe in a lovely spot by the beach.

Stopped by the Mermaid Cafe for lunch today. All the food was great! We enjoyed the fresh, soft baguettes and sandwiches. We thought it was very reasonably priced considering their prime location. Thanks for a lovely visit.

We love Gorran and one of the best things is this little cafe right on the beach , mugs of tea , cold drinks , ice creams and snacks ! The family who run it are lovely and very friendly ( lovely dog ) :7

On a lovely sunny day, it was a delight to sit outside this little cafe, right by the beach. We didn’t have to wait too long for our delicious hot baguettes filled with chicken, bacon and melted cheese. They were so large we couldn’t eat them all and could have quite easily shared them allowing room for a dessert afterwards. Although Gorran Haven is a tiny place, there are several eateries to choose from. We were very happy with our choice.

Mermaid beach cafe was a little gem that we found when visiting Gorran Haven beach for our puppy! The staff were very attentive and polite. Even making sure our puppy had water. Very lovely place with great food too! We have been a number of time on our time away here.

Found this wonderful little cafe by chance and now it will be on my fave list to visit when in Cornwall.

It was very sunny and hot while we were staying in Gorran Haven, so we popped into the Mermaid Cafe a few times for ice cream! Welcoming staff, relaxed atmosphere and delicious ice cream - gold star cafe!

We took a quick trip to Gorran Haven after 3 years without visiting and it was fantastic to find the mermaid cafe open. The new owners were exceptionally welcoming and accommodating to our requests. We enjoyed breakfast here every day with an exceptional view out to sea. Can’t wait to return again.

We walked the cost path to Gorran Haven from Boswinger and were so happy to find this QUAINT WARM WONDERFUL FRIENDLY place !! The Manager and young man were so friendly and welcoming !! It was a cold day but a magical place on the patio around the corner from the Quaint Harbour.. THANKS for being so kind.The food was DELICIOUS and hot chocolate and tea was great !! we got some provisions from the little shop to take on our hike and we would love to come back in the warmer weather THANKS !!! xx

we'd walked down from the Llawnroc, slightly mizzly weather, so welcomed a cup of tea at the Mermaid and some Rocky Road, and nice to talk to people walking the coastal path.

This is a lovely cafe on the beach at beautiful Goran Haven. Breakfast is a must, whilst you people watch. Dog friendly, superb coffee, owners are helpful, friendly and genuinely happy to chat to tell you all about the area.

You can't get any closer to the beach. A buzzing cafe and had a great cream tea people watching for an hour. You won't be disappointed.

Gorgeous cafe in a stunning location. We visited several times and at high tide was a real treat, quiet and peaceful. At low tide it is full of families enjoying the beach and calm shallow water on sand. The Mermaid is a small cafe with drinks, ice cream and hot food. perfect for after a swim with kids. Tea in a mug on the beach. Could it be better (and saving the planet one cup at a time). Very friendly staff. When can we move down and get our 13 YO son a holiday job?! Would recommend a visit and an ice cream or two.

We love this beach as it is peaceful, beautiful and you can hire a canoe. We visited on gala day this year and saw the coast guard helicopters and the lifeboat. The cafe is small but perfect. You can have coffee on the beach with a mug. They have good cakes and sandwiches. The staff have always been really friendly. This beach and cafe is a must do visit for anyone staying in this area.

This cafe is in a really nice location as stated by many others overlooking the beach. The members of staff were friendly and the cafes clean with a few tables outside.we had two crab sandwiches on baguette and two coffees. The cost being just over £24. Sadly the coffees weren’t the best we’ve tasted both bitter and weak with a little froth . The crab sandwiches consisted of white meat only with slices of cucumber and tomatoes .We always enjoy crab sandwiches on our visits to Cornwall but at just under ten pounds each we felt they were overpriced for what we got on this occasion.Please give it a try though as there were other sandwiches available.

A cozy little cafe right on the Gorran Haven Beach which serves Cornish pasties, sausage rolls and a lovely cream tea setting. Welcoming and friendly staff at very reasonable prices. Ice cream to cool you off as well. Charming spot worth a visit.

Really good hot baguettes and sandwiches. Excellent choice of soft cold drinks. Cakes and granola biscuits aplenty. Friendly and helpful service. Just perfect whether you have walked 4 miles or 20 miles. Well done getting back in business after the March 18 storms wrecked your cafe. It is 5 stars from us.

We stopped by at the Mermaid for lunch whilst walking the South West Coast Path. The location is just perfect, right on the beach in a lovely little bay.

After a difficult 5 mile walk along the coastal path, we visited this cafe for some lunch. My little boy didn’t want fish and chips and we had opted here for some sandwiches. There was clearly a very young and highly inexperienced girl taking orders at the till. It took roughly five minutes for her to take the order for the ONE customer in front of us. She was very nice about the whole thing... but really struggling to figure out the till and write down the orders. We had two drinks and two sandwiches. We proceeded to wait for 15 minutes for this. During this time, my little boy wanted to buy one of the toys sitting outside the cafe. One of the other girls there, who had been sitting on a stool near the ice creams, came up and said she would go check the price (as it wasn’t listed on the item) - never to return. Eventually we got our food. In the time it took to wait in line and get our order, my husband and two other children had been to the nearby fish and chip shop, also waited in line, got their order AND ate their food before we got our sandwiches. We went to the beach to eat it, only to open them up and find that the tuna melt wasn’t melted. Sigh... I dislike giving poor reviews to people who seem like they are trying hard, but the whole process here could use a lot of improvement.

Charming beachside café serving warming drinks in proper mugs. Deeply disappointed with my mug of tea, not because it wasn't a top brew... but because I then saw the fully loaded hot chocolates with cream, marshmallows and choc flake. If I wasn't a self-controlled grown-up I would has burst into tears wailing 'I want one of THOSE' - hubby was even closer to that sort of ourburst than me... especially as he'd let me to order his drink while he took photos.

Sitting outside in the sunshine with coffee and cake, overlooking the beach, bay and harbour is one of our favourite things to do in the area. Friendly staff too.

I didn't have high expectations for the Mermaid, expecting a place right next to the beach on a bank holiday weekend to take a captive audience for all it could get away with. I was so pleased to be proved wrong. Run by nice friendly people clearly trying to provide a good service without ripping people off. I fail to understand how a made to order crab sandwich using all white meat on wholemeal bread for £7.95 can be perceived to be expensive: have these people seen the price of crab? Good luck to the owners, I sincerely hope you make a go of it.

We stopped off for a well earned rest having walked from Portmellon along the coastal path. There are several eateries in Gorran Haven despite it being such a small town but Mermaid is right on the beach and, as we discovered, has amazing crab baguettes! The staff are very friendly too! I would suggest the price point is a little high (almost £10 for a crab baguette) but in fairness the portions were huge and tasted great. Plus we're on holiday so who cares!!

We used this Cafe when we had days on Gorran Haven beach. It is right on the beach. Literally 5 minutes walk from either end of the harbour beach.

We stopped here for a bit of lunch and an ice cream. Lovely location just at the entrance to the beach with a small seating area at the front. Kids had a sandwich which at £4.50+ for some Kingsmill bread and a sandwich like I would make at home, I would give them a miss and bring your own. As overpriced for what they are. Husband had a hot baguette which was much better than the sandwiches. Nice ice creams. There are better options in Gorran Haven for lunch.

Being at the entrance to the beach and harbour, this small Café is very convenient for anyone visiting Gorran Haven. But I also found it a great place to enjoy breakfast - the bacon sandwiches were particularly delicious. At the other end of the day, the ice creams were most welcome - try the salted caramel, honeycomb or raspberry for example.

Nice cafe at the edge of the beach, we stopped for a cup of Tea and the cake special of the day which was really nice. Good mug of tea. The cafe is under new management and can provide lots of snacks and lunchtime food, plus all the kids favorites so give it a try.

We walked the South West Coast Path from Gorran Haven to Mevagissey and back, stopping for some refreshment before climbing back into our car and driving home. This cafe is right on the path adjacent to the entrance to the beach and serves great mugs of tea and huge pieces of cake. Just the job!
