We came here for my birthday and I would highly recommend for anyone who wants to try an authentic Mexican cuisine this is the place.Food/ Decor was 11/10. Also we was severed by Ben who gave us the best experience we could have had . As well as making my birthday extra special. He went above and beyond with the service and made great selection from the menu. We will be back definitely.

Quite disappointed in this restaurant. Unnecessarily overpriced for what you receive in portion sizes. This is clearly style over substance. The food was luke warm as if it was left in the window a while, not the correct temperature, plates were not warmed either. We feel The Mayan is trying to be something they're not. If they're charging those prices they should ensure they are on point at all times for all customers with everything!

The food is really nice but the lamb chops were disappointing, barely any meat on them, especially for the price. I wish I had chosen something different. I would recommend going here but not choosing the lamb chops, as they did taste nice but it was tiny for a main. I should have chosen the lamb shank.

I was served by pracih she was wonderful and made sure my birthday went to success. I loved my time here I would definitely come again

We had an absolute blast here last night for our Anniversary, we sampled quite a few of the cocktails which were really delicious and the food from starter to dessert all of the courses tasted amazing! It’s a very warm, friendly and welcoming restaurant and attention to detail is very good and the decor is beautifully done. The staff are wonderful. We even had a little plate at the end of the meal given to us with happy anniversary written in chocolate with a little chocolate biscuit to share. To top the night off we had a shot with the host of the restaurant. We would highly recommend this place it is absolutely stunning!

I didn't feel the food was authentic Mexican and the taco portions were really small. I also got severe food poisoning from this place. Avoid at all costs. Horrible place.

My husband and I have recently been and celebrated our wedding anniversary here, we really enjoyed ourselves. The atmosphere was great, with entertainment put on whilst we enjoyed an amazing range of cocktails at the the bar, prepared by very attentive bar staff who are extremely helpful and happy to chat. The manager was also extremely lovely and more than happy to chat amongst the customers and ensuring they have an enjoyable evening. We would highly recommend the Mayan, an amazing Mexican restaurant. We will definitely be returning very soon.

Went to the Mayan for a rare baby free date night! Prachi served us, a very personable woman who told us about the tequila/ mezcal flights, I blame her for my sore head today 😂 I had a spicy margarita which was 10/10 Loved the decor. Food was fabulous and I’d definitely reccomend this to anyone

I can’t say enough positive things about the Mayan! We came for my partner’s birthday and they made it an incredibly special occasion for us. We were served by Erika who was so lovely and attentive, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The food was delicious, the cocktails were beautiful and the mezcal was outstanding! We will definitely be back!

It took a while for the food to get ready and it came out to be really small for an adult. Apart from that, everything else was perfect. They made our anniversary memorable with the cute anniversary tray presented to us. Well done guys but please make the meal bigger for adults 🤣

I can’t deny that this place is by far the best Mexican restaurant in Birmingham city center! Everything I ordered was amazing. I skipped the main course since I had a late lunch, but every dish I tried was delicious and beautifully presented. The churros were insanely good, and the cocoa sauce that comes with them is the best dip ever—I’m obsessed! The atmosphere is fantastic, perfect for a date, family gatherings, or a fun night out with friends. Plus, the guacamole is made right in front of you, which is a rare experience for a Mexican spot in the UK. Highly recommend giving this place a visit!

On July 21, 2024, I had the pleasure of dining at The Mayan in Birmingham with four of my friends to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant's staff, from the welcoming team at the door to our exceptional waiter Manoj, provided top-notch hospitality throughout our dining experience. Despite our fatigue from a weekend of festivities, the vibrant atmosphere of The Mayan rejuvenated us. We sampled a variety of tacos, including the Carnitas and Tinga de Pollo tacos, each beautifully presented and bursting with delicious flavors. However, the standout dish was the tableside-prepared Guacamole, a true culinary delight. I must commend Manoj for his exceptional service, especially considering my lost voice, requiring him to make extra efforts to ensure our dining experience was seamless. The staff's thoughtfulness in incorporating dry ice into the birthday cake we brought added a magical touch to the celebration. Additionally, the beautiful birthday card presented to my friend was a thoughtful gesture that did not go unnoticed. I look forward to returning to The Mayan to explore their extensive menu further, this time without the remnants of a hangover. Thank you to the team at The Mayan for a memorable dining experience – we will definitely be back.

This is a very late review, we attended the anniversary event, the atmosphere was great and we even left with goodies. we celebrated our graduation and they made it very special. I don’t remember her name but it was Pa… she was a small asian girl and she was lovely so helpful and kind. our night was amazing and the food is always as good as the last time thank you.

Went to the Mayan for my graduation meal and had the best experience. Massive thanks to Prachi who went above and beyond for us, and asked us if we were celebrating anything and brought out a little board with a chocolate tart saying congratulations. Food was amazing, everything had such a nice taste to it and truly was a unique experience. Would definitely go back and would 100% recommend.

People who rate this place have obviously never tried decent Mexican inspired cuisine. The tacos only had one flavour dimension and the chicken filling was cold, I’m a bit of a taco connoisseur, but found the ones here to be lacking, many of our party thought the same. The steak was over cooked and chewy, and again too expensive for the quality. Staff never cleared our dirty starters plates off the table when they brought our mains and just left them instead. I didn’t want to complain because I was part of a larger birthday group and didn’t want to ruin the atmosphere, but other members of the party were disappointed also. This place is style over substance, save yourself ££ and go else where

First time at the Mayan. We are not massive Mexican foodies but what we experienced was superb. Location is great, decoration and atmosphere is fantastic. Resident DJ was playing lovely chilled lounge music. We decided against the bottomless brunch once we seen the huge selection of Tequila. The food is delicious, extremely carefully spiced using some unusual ingredients. The staff is attentive, were always on hand to advice and extremely knowledgable. We were so impressed with the drink selection we ended up at the bar for a couple more Mezcals and Tequilas. Mr Adonis has the place and its offering under tip top order. We cannot wait to visit the other restaurants in the chain.

Food was lovely but vastly overpriced. The sharing surf and turf platter (£80+) was well cooked but it was mainly crayfish rather than lobster for the surf part. There is a huge mark up on the food. Cocktails are very messed around with and novelty so we ordered wine. Not a place for people who know their drink. Most disappointingly of all, while the decor was over the top and fun in a campy way, the music was far too loud, ruining any ambience. It was over £150 for both of us with just the one sharing main and two glasses of wine each. We are used to paying this amount for a meal, or more, but we usually get far more for our money.

The food was very good. Went with a large group who all enjoyed their food. I had the lamb shank that can be seen in the picture which was sublime. The flavours were very good along with the meat being soft and falling off the bone with ease. The cheesecake was nice. The restaurant clearly focuses a lot of attention on the décor which has a nice cosy/welcoming top end feel to it. Service was also very good.

Went there for a first date and the staff were really friendly, one of the waiters for the evening Josh explained every drink and each dish that came out. The cocktails were tasty and food was unreal.

10/10! Everything you want in a restaurant, amazing food, service and atmosphere even other customers were so friendly! We were served by Kerris (hoping I am so spelling that correctly) and she was amazing very friendly and accommodating! Ended up ordering just starters, tacos and sides but it was very very filling, amazing taste and a very good place to go for Mexican cuisine! First time trying it but the (raw) sea bass ceviche was the best thing I've had in a while, very refreshing!

My waitress was attentive. She showed interest in me even did a birthday treat for me. She made my experience special. She was knowledgeable about the menu and the best drinks she did not disappoint. I absolutely loved my time there

This was my second visit to the Mayan, along with a group of friends celebrating a wedding anniversary. A year on since my last visit, and about the same time since the opening of this trendy restaurant, I was once again impressed not just by the food, but also by the ambience, very pleasant service and Saturday night live performance. But my favourite continues to be the very special and creative drinks menu catering for both alcohol drinkers and non-drinkers. The beautiful tableware is a testament to how much attention has been paid to every detail in this place. I hope to visit Birmingham and this restaurant again soon.

The food and service were great (though it's pretty pricey) but the awful, ridiculously loud, banging club music meant that we couldn't hold a conversation without shouting, and couldn't relax. I don't know if it's like this all the time (we were there at 6.30 pm on a Saturday) but I wouldn't want to take the risk, and therefore won't be returning.

Nice date night spot. I feel the menu needs some work though. feel like there should be more mid-range priced options. You have a lot of starter type food and limited other items then you have the steaks. Atmosphere was good. Loved the belly dancers

The food at the restaurant was excellent. The staff, especially our waitress Prachi, provided exceptional service. We were on the Opal tour and enjoyed every bit of it. The guardian is now one of my favorite cocktails, absolutely delicious! I would definitely recommend the Mayan

Took the family for a meal on a Friday night. 10 of us in total. The place was great. The staff were welcoming and provided great service throughout. The food was very good also. Overall, great experience and will highly recommend. Great place to take someone for a special occasion.

We had the bottomless brunch and it was super tasty! Only thing I will say is there was only one vegan/veggie option for the main, so it was quite limiting. However, I really enjoyed the dish still! We went for the two course- it was really filling. Portions are a good size and the drinks are really nice too! Decor is nice and there are loads of really nice finishing touches. It was mine and my boyfriends anniversary and we received a really nice card and little coffee cake :) The service was amazing. The servers were really attentive and friendly. We were served by Prachi and Erica- thankyou so much for the lovely experience guys!

Came here tonight to celebrate my birthday, Ben was so helpful and accommodating and honestly made the experience so worth while! Steak was cooked perfectly and restaurant allowed me to take photos inside. Thanks to everyone at the Mayan especially Ben!!! You will be seeing me again!!!

Not worth the money. Had my birthday meal here on Saturday evening, and got given a tiny little table. The food was ok, didn’t warrant the price it was. Service was ok, drinks came out in timely manner we did however feel very rushed in between each courses. Table wasn’t even set when we got to the table and it was being set as we were having our appetisers. Drinks were nice & the decor too. We mentioned on the booking we were celebrating a birthday and there was nothing given/done for this. I ordered the lamb shank and I would’ve liked to have seen it more tender, trying to get into the lamb was difficult and it felt very chewy. My husband ordered the steak which he said was good, but for the price we paid he said he expected something a bit better. Overall I feel like the place was pricey for what it was for an average meal. I will however say the chimichurri dip was unreal and I would 100% recommend the dip to people.

I had booked The Mayan to celebrate my birthday with my friends and family. I was not disappointed. The decor and ambiance was amazing. The food was so tasty and beautifully presented. Ben and his team took care of our every need. Ben was very pleasant and welcoming and had a lovely sense of humour. He was a great host. I received a cake and card (lovely touch). I will definitely go back again.

Visited this place as a part of the Opal Restaurant Tour. Ordered a mocktail- Mayan's Mask and had an elaborate spread of food- Croquetas de Carne, Empanada, Padron peppers and Guacamole. The food was exquisite- served hot and fresh while the guacamole was made right before our eyes by the energetic manager, Mr. Adonis who was very helpful towards our needs. Will definitely recommend this place to others.

Beautiful place and one of a kind, I was here with some friends for a drink, The manager of the place was very welcoming and kind, as was the staff, at a certain point we started to create a personal cocktail dedicated to one of the friends present... I'd say if you get to Birmingham and don't go to “The Mayan” then you haven't seen anything 😁

Stumbled upon Maya while looking for a restaurant for the evening. The scenery is very nice and I liked their Saturday dancing show. The food is okay, would give it 4/5. The service was also very great, we were served right on time. The bar section was fabulous as well. A total 5/5

Wonderful place stunning interior amazing service very good food superb selection cocktails. there was a very nice manager called Ben who is friendly and greeted us and there is a lovely amazing waitress by the name of Erica who was fabulous. Highly recommend joint must visit bit pricey but worth it.

Had a family meal for 4 on Fathers Day. Service was really good and attentive - we were not rushed & took our time ordering between courses. We went on a Sunday lunchtime and it was very quiet - the decor was amazing inside. Food was really good and well presented. Portions were a very good size - would recommend the chicken skewers and lamb shank. We didn't have any alcoholic drinks but some soft drinks - per head for appetisers, starters and mains we paid approx £45 per head.

Great Mexican restaurant in the Mailbox - high quality food and great service. Have the totopos (nachos) with some guacamole to start while you decide on your mains - they make the guacamole fresh at your table! We had tacos which are on corn tortilla, made fresh on site every day. Decor is very cool. Music is a little on the louder side in there, so might be tough if you have any hearing issues, but great if you like a lively atmosphere! Highly recommend.

Insane food and really nice place

My boyfriend took me here to celebrate my birthday! It was amazing. The first thing that we noticed was the lovely set up of the restaurant - the decor is absolutely stunning. Then our lovely waitress Erica definitely elevated our experience - she was so sweet and ensured that we had the best service! She was very friendly and chatted with me which I loved, and was very speedy with our orders! After asking if we are celebrating an occasion and finding out it was for my birthday, she surprised me with a birthday cake at the end! Honestly could not be more grateful for her service! And the food was sooooo good . The portion sizes were also really filling - my boyfriend even struggled to finish and that never happens haha. If you’re going to order The Mayan King cocktail listen to your waitress/waiter - it is strong af. Overall, I would definitely recommend coming here! So happy with our evening there. Plus apparently on Saturday they have a dj and dancers there! It gets quite busy on Saturdays so if that’s not your vibe then perhaps try a different day - but I’m looking forward to hitting the dance floor with Erica one of the Saturdays 😁

Really nice place with great service and food.

5/5!!! I loved this place. Menu is really varied, decoration, furniture are in the theme even in details like the napkin rings and cutlery. Music is not too loud. Drinks card is amazing. Our waitress Prachi was kind and really attentive. She has been really efficient and proactive to our needs. Merci beaucoup to you guys and especially to Prachi for this tasty and agreeable Mayan experience.

Lovely birthday exprience ! Booked this for my husbands 29th birthday and they were fantastic. Food is very tasteful and the menu is very well thought out. We had a dairy, egg and nut allergy concern for 2 of our guests which is always stressful however tthe staff reassured us, gave us an allergy menu and catered to them brilliantly. The atmosphere is magical, a hidden gem with a lovely canal side view ! We even received a really cool Mayan Coin which is redeemable for a cocktail/drink at a later time. Complimentary birthday cake slice was a lovely touch to the end of a very tasty meal. Thank you to the team !

Our server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They made excellent recommendations and ensured we had everything we needed for a memorable dining experience.

Great place for dinner with a convenient location in The Mailbox. The meat sharing platter was amazing and the place had a nice atmosphere with a DJ in the evening.

Absolutely amazing experience dining out today at The Mayan! I have visited before and loved the food but this time was even better! We were served by such a lovely waiter : Ben who went above and beyond to ensure our experience was top class! He was such a friendly person and explained the menu to us really well as well as providing excellent service! The food was amazing- had the Pollo con mole and the lamb shank which was cooked to perfection! Really authentic Mexican flavours and delicious dishes!
