lovely Mexican restaurant, with a great aesthetic and cool vibe. The food was really good too and very filling. The mocktails were nice. Even Tha bathroom was really nice because of all the gold and black colour scheme and huge mirror. It was a great place to take nice pictures.

I recently visited Mayan Restaurant for their Dia de Los muertos event. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere had a great vibe, but there seemed to be a shortage of waitstaff, which affected the service a bit. The entertainment was enjoyable, though I would have liked a more elaborate show. Overall, I’d recommend visiting on a Friday or Saturday for a lively evening experience. The dessert was decadent.

Thiyesa offered my family and i the best service, she smiles beautifully and she’s gorgeous too. Thank you for the amazing service Thiyesa. The food was superb and we love our dinner date here and we will definitely come back.

What a stunning meal we had, service was exemplary and the staff were so attentive and friendly. Food was absolutely delicious and we had the tacos sharing platter for 2. Meat was cooked and seasoned to perfect. Decor was a feast for the eyes, the attention to detail is on another level, even the ice has the name of the restaurant engraved. Will love to come here again.

Erika was amazing, 10/10 for services food and drinks. The atmosphere was welcoming and warm. It was my and my partner's birthday and 1st wedding anniversary and it was made so special, we had pictures taken for us. The price was good and if I could pay Erika separately we would have😅, to how sweet she was. Definitely would recommend and going back there again.

Beautiful spot, came here for my mum's birthday lunch and we were the only people in there as it was quite early for lunchtime! Staff very attentive to our allergies, food was fresh and delicious, and we got a free birthday ice cream dish! Will be coming back here for special occasions!

Bottomless Brunch- Saturday myself and a group of friends celebrated my husbands 40th here. Food, drinks and service were outstanding. We were looked after by Violeta, she kept our glasses filled and looked after us for the duration. Thankyou for a fantastic afternoon.

We celebrated our friends birthday here. Excellent restaurant, fantastic food and nice staff. We had the champagne brunch which was great value and high quality. Only complaint was our fried was coeliac and it wasn't a great choice for her on some of the courses - we had sumptuous starters and amuse bouche and she had some peppers and then olives, hardly equitable!!! So for normal dietary requirements it is fantastic.

We booked the Mayan for a celebration with a group of 18 and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The quality of the food was outstanding, with every dish bursting with fresh, vibrant flavors. Each plate was beautifully presented, the service was equally impressive—attentive, friendly, and genuinely caring. The staff, especially Prachi, made sure we were comfortable and accomodated throughout our meal. Overall the Mayan was a beautifully decorated restuarant, intimate and a great place to book for celebrating any special moments! Must visit!

First time to eat here last Friday (4 Oct 2024), boy, we weren't disappointed. When we arrived, our table was in the front of the restaurant, we didn't realise this was a DJ experience and it was too loud for us, as my hearing isn't great. We asked our waiter if we could move to a quieter section, in seconds we were whisked to the back of the restaurant to a beautiful table in an alcove and we had the most incredible meal. This isn't your typical Mexican or Argentinian restaurant - it's a fusion of the very best flavours presented in an haute cuisine style. The ox cheek tacos were to die for, the empanadas were delicious and the staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating to adapt my dishes to have no coriander. The food is beautifully prepared and delicately presented and so tasty. The staff were not just professional but warm, chatty and most important attentive. I am about to book this restaurant again for a family Christmas dinner. it's such a treat to have a restaurant of this calibre in Birmingham

Absolutely LOVED dining here last weekend!!! We had reservations and were seated immediately, no waiting for a table. The service was fantastic, the waiter paired my wines with my courses perfectly. The food arrived at a very good time. The ambience of this restaurant is my kind of vibe. Dark, yet stylish, music to suit the menu/cuisine. I can absolutely recommend the King Scallops, along with the Seabass and Salmon Ceviche and Truffle Fries!!! We will definitely be dining here again!!!

The whole experience was brilliant, I had never been to a Mexican restaurant before so was abit skeptical because I'm a fussy eater, But everything was cooked to perfection and was steaming at the bone. We had chicken chipotle and nachos starter, then lamb chops and chicken skewer main with spicy rice and fries. We came as a couple and shared each other's food. The lamb is what my partner got and it as 20 out of 10 absolutely beautiful. The lady's who served us over by the windows where friendly and very helpful. The dancing and music fit perfectly. Went here for dinner on a Friday night, the atmosphere and decor in the restaurant is amazing, as is the food. It's quite pricey, but it's worth it for how tasteful the restaurant is. I ordered lamb and it was cooked perfectly. Couldn't fault the service here the staff were really attentive. Will definitely be back.

Experience The Mayan as part of a Restaurant Tour, it was stop number 2 and one of my favorites. The black and gold decor is beautiful, the gold tree/branches in the center was great. The artwork was amazing, but I would have loved a little more diversity with the pictures. For the tour we got to pick a tapas meal and a drink (alcohol or non). The Guardian cocktail with the spoon of kiwi sorbet was Chef's Kiss. I'm not a gin fan but I want several glasses of this drink. The chicken empanada was seasoned very well and the mole sauce was nice. The table side quacamole was good, I prefer a little more ingredients in my quac, but it was good. The chips that came with it were SO delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed them alone and with the dip. Will definitely return to try out the full menu.

This is an amazing restaurant at the heart of Birmingham city centre. Great atmosphere, beuattifully designed, food to die for and amazing service. Particular call out to Ben, he looked after us like family. Can't recommend it highly enough.

!!!!!!!!!! Avoid at All Costs – Ruined a Special Occasion !!!!!!!!! We recently visited The Mayan restaurant for a very important celebration, but it turned out to be a complete disaster. After eating there, not only myself but everyone in our group got food poisoning, which completely ruined what was supposed to be a memorable evening. The service seemed fine initially, but that doesn't matter when the food quality is so poor that it makes you seriously ill. We had high hopes, but this experience was an absolute nightmare, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. If you're planning a special event or even just a meal, I would suggest avoiding The Mayan at all costs. It's not worth the risk.

Today, I had the pleasure of dining at The Mayan restaurant, located in the Mailbox, Birmingham City Centre. The meal was exceptional, featuring a lamb shank that I ordered, while my friend opted for the T-bone steak. Both dishes were of the highest quality and incredibly flavorful. The service provided by our waitress, Prachi, was outstanding—her recommendation to try the lamb shank and T-bone steak was spot on. We also enjoyed delicious starters, including their guacamole with totopos and beef croquettes, which were equally impressive.

I've actually been a to the Mayan a couple of times, I’ve not very familiar with reviews and the online world. However I believe it is worth the time to post a review for this beautiful and magical place. They are in the finalists for the most beautiful restaurant in the world and that is, in its self, self explanatory. The hospitality I and my husand have received has always been nothing but respectful and brilliant. The food was immersive into Mexican culture and we very much enjoyed it. My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner and I cannot recommend this beautiful restaurant enough. The atmosphere is excellent and the food even more so. We ordered the ceviche, tacos, lamb shank barbacoa, padro peppers and the Mayan hot chocolate and fruit salad for dessert. Everything was executed beautifully and I really appreciate that the tortillas for the tacos were corn based. The tacos are smaller but we were told that when ordering and the staff were happy to answer any questions we had. The service was great and the cocktails were impressive. Thank you for such a lovely evening, we will definitely be back.

I selected this place as it was the closest Mexican restaurant to the Malmaison hotel. We arrived, no issues with the bar and the drinks, they were quality. We were then taken to a table, one seat was metal with no cushion. The food was poor, I had the pork and it was dry, could have done with a steak knife to cut it. Hefty bill at the end £134 for two which included two alcohol drinks and one soft drink!!! Felt like I was in a nightclub, could hardly hear my niece speak. I won’t be going back. Go to the Viceroy couldn’t fault it. Amazing food and customer service.

Manoj went above and beyond. We had explained my tolerance to spicy food and he checked in with us to see how things were and how he could help. It was my birthday and because I don't do cakes he brought over tequila shots and a birthday card. He needs a pay rise. We'll also be booking for the Saturday evening he's sold it to us. It was my birthday today, and my birthday meal was at Mayan, The Mailbox. Thank you, thank you, thank you guys for the whole experience it really was FANTASTIC! The food, the staff second to none. From walking in my party was welcomed, nothing was too much trouble, you were knowledgeable about the food and helped and advised about the menu. The decor stands out on its own it was like walking into another time. The attention to detail, and willingness to answer questions about the chosen theme was in itself a pleasure to listen to. I would recommend this restaurant again and again. You will not be disappointed, and you will be hooked after one visit. So looking forward to my next visit there. Loved it!!

It was quiet but enjoyable. The food was freshly prepared and was flavourful. The avocado was mashed on the table. I had a starter and a main but probably could have comfortably enjoyed a portion of tacos as well. Lots of menu options so I'll save those for next time

The scallops were tender and seared to perfection, with a delicate balance of freshness and richness, while the carnitas offered a deliciously soft exterior and a succulent, flavourful interior that melted in your mouth. For the main course, we each indulged in the T-bone steak, which was cooked exactly as ordered (medium) with a charred crust and juicy, tender meat. The accompanying sides were just as impressive. The honey-glazed carrots added a subtle sweetness that paired beautifully with the steak, while the truffle Parmesan fries were simply addictive—crispy, fragrant, and perfectly seasoned. Firstly, can I start by saying that the place is absolutely stunning 😍. The aesthetics are very appealing, and everywhere is a perfect opportunity for a photoshoot. It's impressive! However the food I have to sadly day wasn't for me . Portion sizes are ridiculously small, very pricey, and not amazing in taste at all. There is more detail paid to decor, including on the plate (see ornaments and the board where the minature fajitas are served). Service was good, lengthy waits, so for those reasons, I would return again, but for drinks only

As someone who doesn't regularly go to fine dining places when I first walked into The Mayan last night I was intimidated initially by the luxury- I was catching up with a friend I hadn't seen in a while, and a concoction of feeling underdressed and taken aback by the gorgeous ornate gold and black decorations complimenting the overall theme made us feel overwhelmed for the first few moments of arrival. However, that unease quickly slipped away with the polite and friendly manner of the serving staff (special mention to Elina for her pleasant, gentle and welcoming nature!) and the dining experience as a whole. I tried the brochetas de pollo and the fire & thunder cocktail- the chicken was grilled to perfection and no aspect of the meal felt disconnected- the green chillis, the sweet potato compote and the salad on the side, everything blended together to create a sensory experience that I will not forget- the chefs very evidently care a lot about the food that they provide, and I confidently recommend this place to anyone looking for gorgeous food in a beautiful spot along the canals of Birmingham. The only other comment I can make is that if you're looking for *cheap* decent food in brum this is not the place to go- this is an 'expensive treat worth it to make the right occasion stand out' type of joint.

Came here for a few drinks at the end of an evening. The vibe was incredible, cocktails extremely well thought out, and experience I will definitely look forward to again. We came here for my birthday and I would highly recommend for anyone who wants to try an authentic Mexican cuisine this is the place.Food/ Decor was 11/10. Also we was severed by Ben who gave us the best experience we could have had . As well as making my birthday extra special. He went above and beyond with the service and made great selection from the menu. We will be back definitely.

Quite disappointed in this restaurant. Unnecessarily overpriced for what you receive in portion sizes. This is clearly style over substance. The food was luke warm as if it was left in the window a while, not the correct temperature, plates were not warmed either. We feel The Mayan is trying to be something they're not. If they're charging those prices they should ensure they are on point at all times for all customers with everything!

The food is really nice but the lamb chops were disappointing, barely any meat on them, especially for the price. I wish I had chosen something different. I would recommend going here but not choosing the lamb chops, as they did taste nice but it was tiny for a main. I should have chosen the lamb shank.

We had an absolute blast here last night for our Anniversary, we sampled quite a few of the cocktails which were really delicious and the food from starter to dessert all of the courses tasted amazing! It’s a very warm, friendly and welcoming restaurant and attention to detail is very good and the decor is beautifully done. The staff are wonderful. We even had a little plate at the end of the meal given to us with happy anniversary written in chocolate with a little chocolate biscuit to share. To top the night off we had a shot with the host of the restaurant. We would highly recommend this place it is absolutely stunning!

My husband and I have recently been and celebrated our wedding anniversary here, we really enjoyed ourselves. The atmosphere was great, with entertainment put on whilst we enjoyed an amazing range of cocktails at the the bar, prepared by very attentive bar staff who are extremely helpful and happy to chat. The manager was also extremely lovely and more than happy to chat amongst the customers and ensuring they have an enjoyable evening. We would highly recommend the Mayan, an amazing Mexican restaurant. We will definitely be returning very soon.

Went to the Mayan for a rare baby free date night! Prachi served us, a very personable woman who told us about the tequila/ mezcal flights, I blame her for my sore head today 😂 I had a spicy margarita which was 10/10 Loved the decor. Food was fabulous and I’d definitely reccomend this to anyone

It took a while for the food to get ready and it came out to be really small for an adult. Apart from that, everything else was perfect. They made our anniversary memorable with the cute anniversary tray presented to us. Well done guys but please make the meal bigger for adults 🤣

I can’t deny that this place is by far the best Mexican restaurant in Birmingham city center! Everything I ordered was amazing. I skipped the main course since I had a late lunch, but every dish I tried was delicious and beautifully presented. The churros were insanely good, and the cocoa sauce that comes with them is the best dip ever—I’m obsessed! The atmosphere is fantastic, perfect for a date, family gatherings, or a fun night out with friends. Plus, the guacamole is made right in front of you, which is a rare experience for a Mexican spot in the UK. Highly recommend giving this place a visit!

On July 21, 2024, I had the pleasure of dining at The Mayan in Birmingham with four of my friends to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant's staff, from the welcoming team at the door to our exceptional waiter Manoj, provided top-notch hospitality throughout our dining experience. Despite our fatigue from a weekend of festivities, the vibrant atmosphere of The Mayan rejuvenated us. We sampled a variety of tacos, including the Carnitas and Tinga de Pollo tacos, each beautifully presented and bursting with delicious flavors. However, the standout dish was the tableside-prepared Guacamole, a true culinary delight. I must commend Manoj for his exceptional service, especially considering my lost voice, requiring him to make extra efforts to ensure our dining experience was seamless. The staff's thoughtfulness in incorporating dry ice into the birthday cake we brought added a magical touch to the celebration. Additionally, the beautiful birthday card presented to my friend was a thoughtful gesture that did not go unnoticed. I look forward to returning to The Mayan to explore their extensive menu further, this time without the remnants of a hangover. Thank you to the team at The Mayan for a memorable dining experience – we will definitely be back.

This is a very late review, we attended the anniversary event, the atmosphere was great and we even left with goodies. we celebrated our graduation and they made it very special. I don’t remember her name but it was Pa… she was a small asian girl and she was lovely so helpful and kind. our night was amazing and the food is always as good as the last time thank you.

Went to the Mayan for my graduation meal and had the best experience. Massive thanks to Prachi who went above and beyond for us, and asked us if we were celebrating anything and brought out a little board with a chocolate tart saying congratulations. Food was amazing, everything had such a nice taste to it and truly was a unique experience. Would definitely go back and would 100% recommend.

People who rate this place have obviously never tried decent Mexican inspired cuisine. The tacos only had one flavour dimension and the chicken filling was cold, I’m a bit of a taco connoisseur, but found the ones here to be lacking, many of our party thought the same. The steak was over cooked and chewy, and again too expensive for the quality. Staff never cleared our dirty starters plates off the table when they brought our mains and just left them instead. I didn’t want to complain because I was part of a larger birthday group and didn’t want to ruin the atmosphere, but other members of the party were disappointed also. This place is style over substance, save yourself ££ and go else where

First time at the Mayan. We are not massive Mexican foodies but what we experienced was superb. Location is great, decoration and atmosphere is fantastic. Resident DJ was playing lovely chilled lounge music. We decided against the bottomless brunch once we seen the huge selection of Tequila. The food is delicious, extremely carefully spiced using some unusual ingredients. The staff is attentive, were always on hand to advice and extremely knowledgable. We were so impressed with the drink selection we ended up at the bar for a couple more Mezcals and Tequilas. Mr Adonis has the place and its offering under tip top order. We cannot wait to visit the other restaurants in the chain.

Food was lovely but vastly overpriced. The sharing surf and turf platter (£80+) was well cooked but it was mainly crayfish rather than lobster for the surf part. There is a huge mark up on the food. Cocktails are very messed around with and novelty so we ordered wine. Not a place for people who know their drink. Most disappointingly of all, while the decor was over the top and fun in a campy way, the music was far too loud, ruining any ambience. It was over £150 for both of us with just the one sharing main and two glasses of wine each. We are used to paying this amount for a meal, or more, but we usually get far more for our money.

The food was very good. Went with a large group who all enjoyed their food. I had the lamb shank that can be seen in the picture which was sublime. The flavours were very good along with the meat being soft and falling off the bone with ease. The cheesecake was nice. The restaurant clearly focuses a lot of attention on the décor which has a nice cosy/welcoming top end feel to it. Service was also very good.

The table service was first class, the manager Ben, made our experience an unforgettable one. The food was vibrant, flavourful and nothing we had experienced before. We went to The Mayan, Birmingham for a special occasion , a group of 12 and the service and attention from the moment we arrived was exceptional. The table service was first class, the manager Ben, made our experience an unforgettable one. The food was vibrant, flavourful and nothing we had experienced before. 10/10! Everything you want in a restaurant, amazing food, service and atmosphere even other customers were so friendly! We were served by Kerris (hoping I am so spelling that correctly) and she was amazing very friendly and accommodating! Ended up ordering just starters, tacos and sides but it was very very filling, amazing taste and a very good place to go for Mexican cuisine! First time trying it but the (raw) sea bass ceviche was the best thing I've had in a while, very refreshing!

Had a great time here. Reception was warm, food was great, service was exceptional and decor was really nice. Manoj who attended to us ensured we had a great time. Went there for a first date and the staff were really friendly, one of the waiters for the evening Josh explained every drink and each dish that came out. The cocktails were tasty and food was unreal.
