As a specialist vegetarian Chef and restaurant owner myself, I am rarely impressed with the vegetarian offerings at many high-end restaurants in Birmingham. Too often, I’ve found a lack of creativity in vegetarian menus, leaving me to settle for dining out more for the ambiance and company rather than the food itself. However, this restaurant has completely redefined my expectations, leaving me with newfound hope that we now have amongst us some truly fine-quality chefs and restaurant owners and managers who take immense pride in their menus and genuinely respect the real essence of hospitality. From the moment we walked in, we were transported to an enchanting rustic Mayan era. The décor is absolutely stunning, blending finesse, class, and gold accents in a way that felt both luxurious and welcoming. Every detail of the ambiance has been crafted with such care that it’s impossible not to be captivated. The cuisine was simply outstanding—authentic Mexican at its very best. When I say authentic, I mean true, bold flavors, beautifully presented dishes, and, most importantly, a taste that lingers with you long after the meal is over. As vegetarians, it is a challenge to find dishes that feel exciting and innovative, but this restaurant delivered beyond our wildest expectations. Special praise goes to Head Chef Dilanka, who went above and beyond by creating not one but two incredible vegetarian main courses just for us. His creativity and passion for his craft shone through each dish with a celebration of flavors, thoughtfully prepared and executed with excellence. The hospitality we received was unparalleled. GM Adonis, Chef Dilanka, and Head Waiter Erika treated us with such genuine warmth and care that we felt like honored guests throughout the evening. The birthday girl in our group was especially delighted, and we all left feeling deeply grateful for such an extraordinary experience. This is more than just a restaurant—it’s a celebration of exceptional food, stunning ambiance, and heartfelt hospitality. For anyone seeking a truly memorable dining experience, this is a must-visit. What a stunning meal we had, service was exemplary and the staff were so attentive and friendly. Food was absolutely delicious and we had the tacos sharing platter for 2. Meat was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Decor was a feast for the eyes, the attention to detail is on another level, even the ice has the name of the restaurant engraved. Will love to come here again.

Came here for a quite dinner was absolutely disappointed with the service and the price off food for what you get it definitely ain’t worth it had the chicken and tacos portions was small food had no taste or flavour very nice and clean inside just the food ain’t up to scratch and had a table behind us screaming and shouting made noise since we got there they just wanted to get pissed and ruin everyone eles experience I wouldn’t be back or recommend it for the price and value for what you get Very disappointed.

Went to Birmingham on a work trip. This place was so good I enjoyed it twice! I am from Florida and can appreciate good Mexican food. I would call this a version of fine dining Mexican. Across the two dinners, I enjoyed frijoles, guac, salsa, scallops, filet, lamb chops and churros (twice). All of it was great. My only complaint is the second night there it was so loud and there was a table near us yelling and cursing up a storm. I would've appreciated if the staff would've addressed that. Had I been there with my kids, we would've had a problem.

Visited here with a few friends for a birthday. Staff were very friendly and service was good. Seated quickly and drinks were ordered and brought to the table soon after. I had the croquettes for start which were very good. My mate had chicken wings which again were excellent. Both were quite largr and filling. I then had the fish tacos and ox tail tacos for main. Only 3 tacos but i couldnt finish them as very filling and great flavour. My mate had chicken tacos of which werent as nice. My other two mates had ribeye steak which they said was cooked well but not worth the £45 paid for it. Overall 4 starters, 3 lots of tacos, 2 steaks, 2 cocktails and a bottle of wine cost £313. Exspensive for what we got. Atmospshere was cool and nice decor. Would reconmend going once to try but I wouldnt return. They did give me mate a free desert for his bday which was a nice touch.

Ventured here on Saturday 7th December for a bottomless brunch with my wife and some friends. This was my first visit to this restaurant and my first bottomless brunch experience. Have to say I was impressed, thought it was excellent value for money, the food was all tasty and fresh and the service was excellent. I’d imagine in some restaurants with the bottomless brunches they attempt to slow you down with the drinks. However, this wasn’t our experience at The Mayan, always a waiter or waitress on hand to top you up.. service was exceptional today. Would definitely recommend 👍

Cool decor and good service. Food was very well presented and bursting with flavour. Only negative was while the steak was well cooked, the meat wasn't a good cut for £45.

My husband and I came here for dinner to celebrate our first year anniversary and it was amazing. I would definitely recommend the grilled octopus for starters and the surf and turf for mains. The service was exceptional, particularly our server-Thiyesa who regularly ensured that we were happy with our food and that we had an amazing anniversary dinner. She was very enthusiastic, kept us very happy and made our night even more memorable. I asked the manager to take a picture of us so he took us to the photo wall and we were very pleased with the photos. Will come again!

Unethical and Immoral Practices – Avoid at All Costs We booked a table for 5pm and arrived in Birmingham at 3pm, leaving plenty of time on what we thought would be a normal day. Unfortunately, there was standstill traffic, and after an hour and a half of barely moving, we realised we wouldn’t make it. We called the restaurant to inform them, explaining the situation and that we wouldn’t need the table. The person on the phone informed us of a 30-minute grace period but was vague and non-committal when we reiterated that we still wouldn’t be able to make it within that time. Despite clearly stating we wouldn’t need the table, they refused to confirm the cancellation, which seemed odd at the time. The next day, we were charged a £20 “no-show” fee. When we called to question this, we were told we hadn’t cancelled the table. This is completely untrue—we had called to cancel, but their staff refused to acknowledge it or confirm our cancellation, seemingly to justify charging the fee later. We were never informed of any no-show charge when we called, and their lack of transparency and refusal to act ethically in this situation is appalling. This experience feels like a deliberate attempt to exploit customers. In my view, this is immoral, unethical, and a clear example of prioritising profit over basic customer service. Avoid this place if you value honest treatment and respect as a customer.

Nice place, inventive and modern cuisine. Don't expect to find typical Mexican cuisine. We shared a guacamole, then some very small and tough lamb chops, a dish with lobster and crab, honestly we didn't like it, with a bottle of wine, £100 for two with a 30% off offer. The Fork. The place and the service are, however, very good.

Was taken here by two business colleagues and absolutely blown away by the quality of the food and the attentive personal service. Atmosphere is a lively pan-generational mixed demographic in a stylish and glamorous space, with perfect little details right down to the napkin rings. Great cocktails and genuinely exquisite food. ( sea bass ceviche to die for) What was going to be a routine working dinner turned into the best evening. Staff were wonderful and simply cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Amazing decor, a nice warm welcome on arrival. Our main server was Patricia and she was absolutely lovely although everyone we spoke to were very nice. The attention to detail in everything was so good, even things like the plates were beautiful and even the bottle for ap water looked good! The presentation of everything was great. I am not really a big fan of mexican restarants but this one takes it to another level. Even the toilets looked amazing and stylish! The crafted cocktails were different and I really enjoyed mine plus a little treat for our anniversary was a nice little touch. If this restaurant was close to home I am sure we would become regulars, would absolutely recommend

Our server, who may be the manager (Aussie guy) was exceptional. He was passionate about the food and brand and making sure we had a good time. Not a typical Mexican in the uk, very authentic food. A large drinks menu, but be warned the usual cocktails available elsewhere are not available here. Food was great and filling. Will be back.

A pesar de que la cocina estaba a punto de cerrar en 20 minutos, todavía nos permitieron en consideración que había un gran grupo de nosotros (14 personas). El servicio fue fantástico - Ben era el anfitrión perfecto, ya que hizo nuestra experiencia muy memorable y nos hizo reír y se ofreció a tomar nuestras fotos, incluso obtuvo los ángulos perfectos😂.

We came in and instantly and were met with warm and lovely staff. The music was a little loud so I couldn’t hear the staff at times or maybe my hearing is just terrible lmao. The divine creation drink was the best, not too strong and nice. The staff sang me happy birthday and the little chocolate was very nice. It was a lovely way to celebrate my birthday and we all left very happy. And thank you to Prachi, she’s so cute and helpful haha x

Okay so first of all we arrived late which is crappy for us and we apologise so we missed our Bottomless Brunch slot. It was absolutely freezing in there, wasn’t good that we were sat right under the AC which we asked to be turned off. The menus were somewhat hard to understand and comprehend and there wasn’t a variety on the menu in OUR opinion. We ordered chicken tacos, cod tacos, fries, truffle fries and honey glazed carrots because nothing really was catching our eyes. Carrots and fries were fantastic and would defo recommend but everything else was not giving what it was supposed to give especially after seeing the lovely reviews. Our expectations were high. The cocktail menu was like a mini catalogue which is really overwhelming and you don’t know where to start from. My friends got the El Tempo cocktail after being recommended that by our lovely waiter. We can’t explain the taste but it wouldn’t be our go to be bought again. They didn’t have ketchup, mayonnaise/regular sauce and when we asked, we were told it’s because they’re trying to keep with the authenticity of Mexico which is fair I guess. One of our taco meals was taken off our bill after the Manager came to check in on us whilst we were eating and we told him how we felt. Overall food experience was 4/10, customer service 8/10, aura 5/10, it was quiet for a Sunday. They Played Premier Gaou (Nitefreak Remix) by Francis Mercier & Magic System which is brownie points. All in all it was good. They even brought out a fancy something for my friends birthday. I would come again and possibly try one of the fish mains

lovely Mexican restaurant, with a great aesthetic and cool vibe. The food was really good too and very filling. The mocktails were nice. Even Tha bathroom was really nice because of all the gold and black colour scheme and huge mirror. It was a great place to take nice pictures.

I recently visited Mayan Restaurant for their Dia de Los muertos event. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere had a great vibe, but there seemed to be a shortage of waitstaff, which affected the service a bit. The entertainment was enjoyable, though I would have liked a more elaborate show. Overall, I’d recommend visiting on a Friday or Saturday for a lively evening experience. The dessert was decadent.

Beautiful spot, came here for my mum's birthday lunch and we were the only people in there as it was quite early for lunchtime! Staff very attentive to our allergies, food was fresh and delicious, and we got a free birthday ice cream dish! Will be coming back here for special occasions!

Bottomless Brunch- Saturday myself and a group of friends celebrated my husbands 40th here. Food, drinks and service were outstanding. We were looked after by Violeta, she kept our glasses filled and looked after us for the duration. Thankyou for a fantastic afternoon.

We celebrated our friends birthday here. Excellent restaurant, fantastic food and nice staff. We had the champagne brunch which was great value and high quality. Only complaint was our fried was coeliac and it wasn't a great choice for her on some of the courses - we had sumptuous starters and amuse bouche and she had some peppers and then olives, hardly equitable!!! So for normal dietary requirements it is fantastic.

The quality of the food was outstanding, with every dish bursting with fresh, vibrant flavors. Absolutely LOVED dining here last weekend!!! We had reservations and were seated immediately, no waiting for a table. The service was fantastic, the waiter paired my wines with my courses perfectly. The food arrived at a very good time. The ambience of this restaurant is my kind of vibe. Dark, yet stylish, music to suit the menu/cuisine. I can absolutely recommend the King Scallops, along with the Seabass and Salmon Ceviche and Truffle Fries!!! We will definitely be dining here again!!!

First time to eat here last Friday (4 Oct 2024), boy, we weren't disappointed. When we arrived, our table was in the front of the restaurant, we didn't realise this was a DJ experience and it was too loud for us, as my hearing isn't great. We asked our waiter if we could move to a quieter section, in seconds we were whisked to the back of the restaurant to a beautiful table in an alcove and we had the most incredible meal. This isn't your typical Mexican or Argentinian restaurant - it's a fusion of the very best flavours presented in an haute cuisine style. The ox cheek tacos were to die for, the empanadas were delicious and the staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating to adapt my dishes to have no coriander. The food is beautifully prepared and delicately presented and so tasty. The staff were not just professional but warm, chatty and most important attentive. I am about to book this restaurant again for a family Christmas dinner. it's such a treat to have a restaurant of this calibre in Birmingham

Went here for dinner on a Friday night, the atmosphere and decor in the restaurant is amazing, as is the food. It's quite pricey, but it's worth it for how tasteful the restaurant is. I ordered lamb and it was cooked perfectly. Couldn't fault the service here the staff were really attentive. Will definitely be back.

The whole experience was brilliant, I had never been to a Mexican restaurant before so was abit skeptical because I'm a fussy eater, But everything was cooked to perfection and was steaming at the bone. We had chicken chipotle and nachos starter, then lamb chops and chicken skewer main with spicy rice and fries. We came as a couple and shared each other's food. The lamb is what my partner got and it as 20 out of 10 absolutely beautiful. The lady's who served us over by the windows where friendly and very helpful. The dancing and music fit perfectly. Experience The Mayan as part of a Restaurant Tour, it was stop number 2 and one of my favorites. The black and gold decor is beautiful, the gold tree/branches in the center was great. The artwork was amazing, but I would have loved a little more diversity with the pictures. For the tour we got to pick a tapas meal and a drink (alcohol or non). The Guardian cocktail with the spoon of kiwi sorbet was Chef's Kiss. I'm not a gin fan but I want several glasses of this drink. The chicken empanada was seasoned very well and the mole sauce was nice. The table side quacamole was good, I prefer a little more ingredients in my quac, but it was good. The chips that came with it were SO delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed them alone and with the dip. Will definitely return to try out the full menu.
