The Marsh Mills Beefeater in Plymouth

We came for the mother's day set menu and were served by Lauren. She was very bubbly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing and not long to wait considering it was mothers day. The only thing i would suggest is more colouring pages for the younger children who cant complete the puzzles in the kids pack.

Absolutely appalling...it was quiet customer wise, so no excuses on messing up the meals, but items were forgotten in the starter and main. Were seated in the place where breakfast was being served the following day At 8:10pm they stated setting up for breakfast moving furniture and banging around. Some staff were talking and laughing with friends paying no attention to customers. Main course arrived ask if we wanted anything so we asked for mayonnaise. It arrived with a fly in it. With all the noise and poor service and fly in the mayo. we were offered a free desert, however we felt so uncomfortable we declined. Alleged manager arrived with the bill and we offered the following advice. "If they were going to set up for breakfast they should put customers in a quieter area". There was plenty of space!. She was dismissive and said nobody's complained before about us settling up breakfast. No reduction on the bill was offered and as a reason it was stated I did offer you a free desert, which was an insult as we had to suffer the noise and poor service and had no intention of staying any longer. We paid full price without using any discount tokens. Best part of the meal was the wine which would have been difficult to get wrong. Meal was at 7:30 pm 31/03/2025 so you can work out who the manager was. Not happy.

We had a lovely meal at the Beefeater, celebrating Mother's Day. Although busy, our food was served quickly and was delicious. Our server, Georgia, was lovely, very attentive and nothing was too much trouble.

Horrendous steak, came here for Mother’s Day first Mother’s Day out. Ordered a medium steak and the steak could have been raw. It was not medium what so ever, we sent it back and it wasn’t re cooked at all it came back cold. Beyond a joke hire chefs that can cook steak your a beafeater. Will not be coming back do not order steak here.

Had a nice meal with my family, waiting staff were very knowledgable.

The food is always hot and plentiful. Jo behind the bar is a proper janner, with the expected greeting, hello love, lover, sweetheart. And that goes a long way, especially when you're from Plymouth and/or Cornwall. 'Maid is mazingly friendly'

Met some friends last night for dinner and a catch up and I'm sorry to say the whole experience was horrendous. The place is filthy. God knows what was splashed up the picture on the wall next to our table. Chairs stained badly, just general grubbiness. We queried where our 3rd meal was and the server actually argued with us that there should be a 3rd one despite the fact we had ordered and paid for it. She eventually brought it after she'd finished her loud conversation with the builders on the table behind us and then blamed the chef! Food also pretty grim. I don't normally leave bad reviews because I've worked in hospitality and everyone has a bad day now and then but this place needs a serious overhaul and some staff training.

Gabriel is a very good waiter/server he is so happy, polite and funny! He brings a sense of humour to breakfast! Highly recommend this food!

regularly have the breakfast here, excellent value especially as 2 children per adult eat for free. Gabriel is regularly serving and waiting table, lovely guy, always smiling, efficient and the kids love his banter too.

Stopped for coffee and a business meeting. Good service and a quiet bar / cade area away from the main dinning room.

Food is OK quality, what you would expect from a pub chain, though possibly overpriced for what it is.(£17 for a chicken burger and chips??). Unfortunately the service is dismal. We waited 30 mins just to get our drinks, 40 mins for the food. And it wasn't even that busy, restaurant less than half full. We found ourselves getting really impatient which spoiled the lunch. We won't be going back.

Picked a quiet night. Food was served very quickly but nachos were cold and the fish was really greasy, so we left the batter and the actual fish inside was lovely!

Very busy, nice friendly staff. Food portions? You get better price per quantity at a chip shop, smothered chicken was visible. Half of the chips were missing, and someone had drizzled what I can only assume was stagnant washing up water over my salad.

Our team always comes here for breakfast. £11 for unlimited continental/full English and unlimited drinks. Always cooked fresh and non greasy. Gabriel the waiter is very efficient and friendly and makes sure our group of 14 has everything we need whilst still working at pace to deal with all the other customers.

We came to the Beefeater last Saturday and the food was amazing!! The mixed grill was perfectly cooked. I must say a special mention to the young waitress Georgia, we noticed they must have been short staffed as she was on her own a lot trying to take orders and please most of the tables on the upstairs area. She was friendly, helpful and apologetic for the wait despite working her socks off! We had no real issues with the wait but was very good of her to say. An obviously busy Saturday but great food, great service and great atmosphere.

We had a really lovely meal, Elaine our waitress was so sweet! Really looked after us, so helpful and kind! Would definitely visit again.

The big roast is no different to the standard. Veg were so soft and watery they wouldn't be out of place at a care home. Service was so slow and the atmosphere was dire with faulty lights, freezing air blowing in, dirty tables. Just avoid

Food was okay, service was slow as the waiters seem to stand around talking and not doing a lot. Didn't check if they food was okay either. I think the service needs to be improved here.

Had lunch with the Mrs on NY eve. Not busy on arrival and had a slight wait until seated. Seemed a sense of panic amongst the staff, there appeared to be one experienced colleague who was run ragged serving their own area, greeting guests and helping the other colleagues who seemed very new and nervous. No sign of supervisors or management, apart from one who prioritised cleaning cutlery over supporting their staff and tending to guests. The food overall was good, the Mrs enjoyed her steak and the plant burger good,the vegan option garlic bread was bland and the seasoned corn on the cob was also bland. More vegan options would be appreciated, as the only other vegan starter was the soup, which was not available. Update, went recently for a meal with the Mrs, service was much better and we were fortunate enough to have been looked after by the lovely Kayleigh.

I come here with friends fairly frequently but this time wasn't good. Waited 20mins after the lady said she'd be back to show us a table, then when seated there was old food stuck on the dividing wall which ended up all over my friends trousers and the wooden slats that separate the diners were thick with dust everywhere, was filthy, we moved but the another table but were the same. We did point this out but nothing was done. Really disappointed

Family meal mains & a couple of desserts plus a couple of rounds of drinks. Speed of service pretty good given how busy it was - Leah looked after us nicely and Andy got the ribeye right.

Good food and service today, music was a little loud and from the radio which wasn't great, timing, taste, quality and warmth of meal was perfect.

The food on the whole was good, but it let down by the poor service. After waiting ten minutes at the entrance to be shown a table the original server was polite and helpful. Unfortunately her shift finished during the meal and we were left with no server and staff more interested chatting to each other. On highlighting the poor service things just got worse. If the serving staff could care about the customers as much as the chefs care about the food the evening would have been improved. I did notice other tables were left waiting for over 30 mins for service.

Breakfast. Waited 20 minutes no order taken. Static subutteo like manager just likes to chat and not lead. Foreign bloke confuses everything and took me to a table the other side of the room to a dirty table and I was carrying heavy bags. Poor girl didn't know what to do to keep up. Won't be returning. Left without cooked food, fisheye fried eggs looked like roadkill anyway.

Banging breakfast , no limits , 2 adults 5 children for under £30 ... friendly staff , always clean

Ordered chicken wings that were greasy and tasteless. Ordered at the same time roast turkey dinner, server came back and told us they'd run out. Had rump steaks with peppercorn sauce . The sauce was out of a packet and not very good, the chips were dry and obviously not fresh. Very disappointed with the meal, and will never go here again

Came for a family birthday meal the food was lovely and served promptly. Our server(Georgia) made sure we always had what we needed and also brought out the birthday cake with the internal firework(it lasted a surprisingly long time... the firework, not the cake). Overall a really good experience

Absolutely brilliant value for money food was great. Service was excellent. 1 problem I had was when my food arrived my chips was cold. As my colleagues chips were hot. Was sorted very quickly. Well done guys.

I joined my friend and her family (six people in total), who had met together following the passing of a close relative of theirs. The service was very poor and our order wasn't put through. It was only when my friend's sister asked why we were waiting so long, when other people around us who had ordered after us, were eating, that the manager came over to us to tell us that the server had forgotten to put our order through to the kitchen. This was very disappointing, as we had already been waiting a long time before we said anything. The manager told us that she would arrange for us to have some garlic bread while we waited. This was no good to me as I am gluten and lactose intolerant. I was starting to feel quite light-headed with the long wait for the food. Unbelievably, the garlic bread was also forgotten and left on the side, ready to be delivered to us. Once again, we had to chase this up. Our food, which was fine, eventually arrived, and the one positive outcome of our disappointing experience, was that we weren't charged for the food, which we appreciated. We chose this restaurant as it is accessible for my friend, who has mobility issues, but we are unlikely to be visiting again.

Had breakfast today. We’ve been a few times and it just seems to get progressively worse on each visit. We booked for 10am but had to queue in the doorway until 10.30am. People were getting annoyed and pushing in, we were waiting behind people who hadn’t booked which doesn’t seem to be a fair system at all. When we finally got inside there were plenty of tables, they just hadn’t bothered (or had the time) to clear them. The food wasn’t being replenished quickly enough so there were lots of empty areas and barely any juice! Lots of people waiting around, pretty chaotic! Clearly massively under staffed for a busy breakfast. It’s busy every time I go so it can’t be a surprise to them! It’s a shame because the food itself is quite nice and the staff are polite. It just seems to be ridiculously under staffed and poorly managed. We’re going to try somewhere else next time as it doesn’t seem worth the hassle.

Atmosphere, didn't really care tbh but it wasn't bad and was able to get comfy, food did take a bit to arrive but I really like the food there. So it was good.

Like most Beefeaters, the menu is full of BBQ type food. Not a great deal of choice for those of us that don't like BBQ sauce! Breakfast is really good though.

Looks tired decor Food is reasonable but the fish we had. The batter was overcooked and dark brown Staff are helpful

Myself and my husband visited for a evening meal. Never go out just the 2 of us so was looking forward to it. Ordered food, and when it came, we was very disappointed. We ordered bbq ribs and chicken breast and chicken wings and chips and also had the double burger with bbq sauce. The ribs was meant to have bbq sauce, well it had hardly any and was very dry. The burger was meant to have bbq sauce, it had a very little if not any. When they had asked if we wanted any sauces, I had asked for bbq as I needed some for my ribs as there was next to nothing on them, they had replied with we would have to pay extra. Wow we won't be returning here ever for a main meal. Very disappointing. I thought after about taking photos, but it was too late at that point.

Had a shocking meal here, £16.49 for a Sirloin steak, Tomato, peas and limp salad. I had a burger £16.49 which came with a small portion of cold skin on fries (not offered an alternative). We had a table near the entrance so it was cold. Definitely not worth the money and the steak didn't come with a mushroom. Nobody asked if everything was ok with the meal. This is the second time we have had a bad experience here. It was a Tuesday so not exactly busy, unfortunately we won't be paying over £40 for two meals and two drinks again. It's a shame as the reviews seemed to have improved

Went for a breakfast this morning arrived at 9am was told no sausages left (sainsbury supermarket across the road ) the rest of the food was just warm on the self service was charged before actually having the breakfast guess that's so they don't have give the money back worst breakfast we've had in years will never return only thing hot was the tea and coffee thankfully

Attended for a Birthday meal with family. Seated promptly, drinks order taken promptly, meal order also taken promptly. Our waitress (Elaine) was extremely friendly, attentive, and very pleasant. Food was delicious and freshly made. Definitely coming back here, 5 stars.

Had festive menu today 🤮 all veg was frozen, roast potatoes was more like frozen wedges & deep fried pigs n blankets wasnt even browned off.. Its the worst roast dinner ive had. Only ate carrots. Plus it was £21.50 per meal. PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU HAVE FESTIVE MEAL. 🤮🤮

I've been 3 times in last month, and Connie, a pregnant girl, a fab service older lady with glasses( sorry, didn't catch name) in mid week, was great, making my girl feel special on opening of show. Tonight, my girls' 15th birthday, kayleigh, was amazing with all otber staff. No matter how busy the service was, it was fantastic and made it special, and the food was great has been every visit Will recommend you all and fab place and food was lush x

Good value, good for business use

The service here is okay, I like the fairly recent change to pay on entry which speeds things up considerably. The food sits around far too much so is often cold. However, availability here is good.

Outstanding service from Gabriel at breakfast. My family has dietary requirements - he gave us the allergen file straight away and took a special order so our food came direct from the kitchen. He was cheery and efficient and couldn’t have done more for us. Thanks Gabriel!

In total, my third visit here and with my mixed grill..... Was the best yet! Each meat was perfectly cooked, the 2 eggs were lovely and the chips were seriously good! It's been a while since I've had a better mixed grill than this from a restaurant! The service is decent enough, but I don't like too many visits to the table trying to top up our drinks to buy more and being called "You Lovely People" multiple times did get a little bit annoying. I only come to Plymouth once a year, but will definitely come back for one of my meals with my family!

Came here today for my sisters 60th birthday and the food was shocking bacon was grey smelt disgusting and didn't taste right at all never again will we be eating there paid for 4 all you can eat and refunded me half the money yes we had toast and a hot drink which wouldn't of cost £21.96

Very big inside plenty of space, but found the food very expensive, a roast which we thought was a carvery was plated, it all tasted a bit artificial, £15.99 per plated roast. Then £3.99 on top for caulicheese! Can't justify that kind of money when proper carvery is less than there plus you get all the veg included, bad call beefeater, safe to say we won't be dining out here again.

Lauren , and her team catered for a large party of 34 people and made it look easy everyone had they're food at the same time and all orders where perfectly completed , they gave us a private function room at no extra cost and even supplied crackers all our drinks where waiting for us ready poured and I have no negative feedback at all , went there last year with 44 peopke and won't hesitate to rebook again next year , food, service ,and we all had a really excellent laughter and fun , top job Lauren and Tiff and crew thankyou all very much 😀 😊 service is 5stars not 4

Busy atmosphere at the time of our booking, but were seated quite quickly and our server Leah was attentive and visited our table often to see how we were faring.

Went for breakfast and did not like it at all. It wasn't explained well all over the place and had to ask for a tray. Food was luke warm and took plate away without asking if I had finished. Poor service won't go there again.

Stake not medium rear just rear tough and full of blood

We had a group of 16 people and were made really welcome, service was good and meals came out fast and as ordered (which given we had a large group doesn't always happen) staff were friendly, cost was as expected so all in all good. Oh yeah, and the loos were clean.

ALL YOU CAN EAT BREAKFAST, MARSHMILLS, PLYMOUTH Have not been to the Beefeater at Marsh Mills for a good few years. My daughter insisted I take her there for the all you can eat breakfast on Tuesday 29th October 24. As soon as we got into the restaurant (around 9.45am) it was heaving with families. We waited at the reception table, to be seated, for a good 12 minutes, not a good start. When someone eventually showed up I continued to pay for the food (£10.99 kids under 16 go free). I paid via contactless and 4 times my card was declined, not my error! The woman changed the machine and it worked. We got seated and proceeded over to the help yourself area - the queues were long and the majority of the food trays were empty! We had to wait another 10 minutes or so before they were restocked. The bacon has to be the worst bacon I have ever had. Far too greasy and more fat than on the bacon itself. The staff hospitality was awful and they just looked flustered. To cut a long story short we wont be going back! Oh and 2 hours after leaving I had serious stomach pains which lead to bad Diarrhoea!

Visited with my daughter. Staff warm, welcoming and attentive throughout visit. Food was good, can recommend Chicken flatbread and Lasagne. Would visit again based on staff alone - Thank you.

I am Coeliac, so I have to eat Gluten Free, and my friend is Vegan. The menu has a very good choice for both of us, including starters and puddings, as well! The restaurant chefs produced very lovely cooked delicious food. Georgia couldn't have been any better as our server - she's so friendly, smiley, bubbly, and kind. She made sure all of our allergies and dietary needs were met and that our courses came out in a timely manner after each other. She remembered what we'd asked her about in advance and made our experience so much happier, comfortable, and smoother - we felt valued, cared for, and listened to. We couldn't have asked for anything better. We hope to see her and the team again soon!

Food wasn't as good as usual but staff were brilliant had Georgia brilliant server
