Showing its age but still there, two main lounges+function room and about 10 bedrooms. Recently updated amenities with spotless bathrooms Uber friendly, welcoming and helpful. Pub grub menus but great value and the quality of their rump steaks obvious. We asked for an 8oz rump served sizzling styke. Thick cut chips/wedges were also delicious. All generous portions. Comfortable firm beds and rm3 quiet even when functions are held. Breakfasts are minus cereals but again terrific value. My bacon&sausage brioche roll jammed full. Coffees were hot. Only disappointment was marmalade had run out. Sea location is very pleasant and bus 26 runs frequently from Newcastle to Jarrow with stop outside hotel Relaxed experience throughout our stay. Comfortable chairs in main areas and lobby. Ample free parking. Very happily return. The friendliness of all staff really stood out.

Came here on Christmas day and had possibly the worst meal of my life. Half of the party were served RAW prawns and we didn't even get to the main course. Had several pathetic excuses from the management about why and were told three different stories. The gents toliets were filthy so I dread to think what the kitchens were like. You'd have to be clinically insane to go here. Avoid it like the plague. Disgraceful. Staff untrained and clueless on how to even pour a pint. Should be shut down

Reviewed this Inn a year ago. Recently took a tour of the place by a member of Staff. Up stairs I looked at a few newly furnished rooms and found them quite improved. I would say not quite 5* but Premier Inn standard. The Bar area has not changed much but I had a meal which was acceptable - only a breakfast. Still not my standard. It's not very frequented and needs a little management. Views still excellent if you don't mind persistent noise from nearby Quarry usage. Very good bus service to Newcastle/Sunderland and Town Centre and beaches.

Called in on Saturday morning at around 1140 and enquired if breakfast was still being served. The lady serving went to check and after a couple of minutes advised us it was and we were asked to sit at a table of our choosing. On ordering my friend asked for gluten free options and not only did the lady serving us go and ask the chef, he came out and discussed any requirements. The result was an excellent breakfast enjoyed by both of us and after a couple of latte coffees each went home with plenty change out of my £20 note. Will definitely be going back. Thanks all at the Marsden Inn!

This was our first visit in many years so didn't know what to expect. The first I'mpression was good due to smart decor, friendly staff and an extensive menu. We had felt the need for comfort food and were not disappointed. We ordered mince and dumplings with fresh vegtables, cooked just right, delicious and presented so well. No doubt we shall certainly return.

My sister spoke to the manager about hosting a wake for a terminally ill family member here just a few weeks ago and was told just to let them know, when we could, the day was that we would be needing it, whatever day it was there would be a room available. The family member in question sadly passed away on Wednesday. My sister rang up to speak to the manager again to confirm on Thursday and was told no. "Too short notice" and "too many staff off sick". Even after assuring them we did not need any staff just the room, as after being told it could happen we didn't look or ask anywhere else, and anyone wanting drinks would go to the other bar the answer was still no. I think you'll find that most funerals are unfortunately pretty short notice, you're not going to book one six weeks in advance are you!!! I've held and attended several parties here before but certainly will not be back. So if you're after a function room and understanding staff I wouldn't bother with this place as they'll probably just say yes then change their mind.

Situated along one of my favourite parts of the north east coast for food, The Marsden Inn did not disappoint! Based at great location and beautiful inside and out. Clean and bright, and very cosy to relax. Easily one of my regular spots in days to come. We were greeted warmly by the manager/owner and her staff who were very happy to help. I had a burger (my norm) but my friend was having the sizzler platter (sorry about the spelling of this dish). Excellent portion sizes for the money and the Presentation was great. Burger was cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic! the chips are the best around. The sizzling platter was a thing to behold, so well presented and well received. Chocolate fudge cake for dessert. Again, this was excellent. Such a lovely texture. They should be very proud of the food standard. The chef was also nice enough to ask if I enjoyed my food while passing and the bar girl was really helpful and polite making us feel welcome. Highly recommended.

Called in for a drink after not being in for a while and it is really poor. Music from the 50's, no atmosphere, function room seats. Like being in some kind of living museum. Psychic night in lounge providing only spirit.

Word of mouth is generally seen as the best form of advertising so I need say little else other than the food is excellent, in particular the excellent value Sunday roast. Staff are friendly and attentive and whether it be extra gravy or a glass of water you may require it is served by a very pleasant member of staff. For those folk out there who haven't yet had the pleasure of dining at The Marsden Inn then look no further, you won't be disappointed!! Pros...... Excellent food, excellent staff, value for money Cons... None

Food has improved in recent months however our Sunday lunch was swimming in gravy and I think they may have forgotten about us. Nevertheless the atmosphere is friendly and decor is nice. Hits the spot.

Got a flier through the door stating that Head chef Kevin Reay had returned toThe Marsden IWnn, so with no family to feed on Sunday the Wife and I decided to give it another try.The place was well staffed to cope with the demand they obviously expected. My wife and I were shown to a table straight away and decided on our choices straight away. Turkey for her, beef for me and we waited for someone to take the order. After about 5 minutes I decided to order at the bar but was told to order my drinks and they would take my food order at the table. We had arrived early in the hope of missing the expected rush so we were keen to get our order in as the place began to fill up. After about 10 mins I noticed that as people arrived they were placing their orders so I went back to the bar and ordered. The food came quite quickly and was very nice, lean beef, turkey thick gravy and plenty of different veg.At a fiver each it was good value, it's a pity the slow service spoiled what would have been a very good rating if it had matched the food.

As today being sunday the 11th of May .. Me my friend and our 2 children customed at The Marsden Inn. As we have been a few times knowing the children are welcome although this is the first time i have ever met the new management.. Both children are well behaved and used to eating out but the attitude from the 'Manager' was appauling..We sat in the back where pool table is and knowing we had children so away from customers round the corner as my daughter was singing her favourite Frozen song let it go in which the band for the night kindly heard as she sang for them..They where so impressed and taking in with her they then gave her a free CD which we thought was extremely kind and never thought for one second my daughter was in the managers words 'running riot' which he stated as he stood with members of the band so that we were in ear shot! (how professional) all my little girl was doing was standing at the very back next to fireplace away from customers in her only little world singing..We had been there for 2 hours for my friends son to watch the match which my daughter never once ran riot (which in my eyes is a child running all over the place not just stood in one place at the back singing round the corner where no one but us could hear) and i was in total control of her.I as an OFSTED Registered childminder think the title of family friendly should be removed!!

This pub has gone through some tough times recently, changing hands a few times and the resultant drop in standards. It has recently been taken over again and I have to say is much improved. The food is tasty with good portions and very reasonably priced. 4 of us ate there and for 2 courses each and a round of drinks we still had change from 50 quid. Its not fine dining but good quality pub food. Families are welcome and they will happily substitute veg etc for fussy eaters.

On approaching the bar was met by the most unhappy barmaid , no smile no welcome, ordered bottle wine asked for an ice bucket, was greeted with a grunt and given a pint glass filled with ice.Went back to bar to order meal, was viewing the specials board and was greeted with (Do you want to order). Placed order and waited, the barmaid then came and plonked the condiments, and cutlery on the table, no conversation or smile. Meal arrived, half was missing no onion rings with the surf and turf, no garden peas with the scampi. ate meal, only because I had very little to eat all day and I am an insulin diabetic and had no choice, the barmaid came to clear the table no verbal communication as in (Did you enjoy your meal)?? Never will I go back really terrible, in the current climate you would expect people to pull out all the stops to win customers !!

Visited on a whim with a friend after seeing the 3 for £10 cocktail sign outside. An absolutely beautiful interior, very friendly, polite and helpful staff. You can mix and match the cocktails which arrived quickly and high quality. Then after 5pm there is an complimentary cheese board which is amazing and of the highest quality and standard. I do not understand how the place wasn't packed. Cocktail deals and free cheese my idea of heaven. Would highly recommend.

A bit pricey for a simple country pub. Remember it when it did catering and served very good wholesome meals which for a while was discontinued and at last has now returned to catering which I will review in near future. Fairly shocked by a simple single Bells whisky and coke costing a whopping £5.05 There is limited parking at back though do not park in the narrow road at the back as it upsets not just the residents but those living on the estate further alon and if lucky, you can find the odd parking space at the front. I do like visiting the place and it is very nice pub with a pleasant external sitting area at the back.
