Lovely pub in the centre of Alnwick, good food, portions are massive. Warm and welcoming . Always a friendly welcome from the staff. Great range of cocktails and dog friendly in the bar area.

Visited today for lunch, have never stayed here, thus no rating for rooms. Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff.

Stopped for some lunch on our way up to the coast. Nice food and quick service. Also a good atmosphere in there.

Really good pub and excellent food well worth a visit if you are in Alnwick

We called in for Sunday lunch on 291224. The pub place was buzzing, but we were still offered a table to dine. We picked the roast dinner, and it arrived with a full plate of quality food and carefully balanced Yorkshire pudding on top. We sampled various real ales and enjoyed the afternoon. All the staff were happy and smiling and doing a great job. £15 for a good plate of food with plenty of gravy. Plenty of beers...makes a happy customer. We will return, I'm sure. They even offered water for my wife guide dog.

We had an absolutely delicious Christmas menu meal yesterday ( thanks to the lovely staff for accommodating us ). Especial thanks to Savanna, who overheard my Swedish partner tasting my pint and saying it was flat and came dashing over offering to change it..actually it was a deliciously effervescent pint of Alnwick Bitter and Annicka was not aware that's how bitter should be in Britain. Thanks Savanna and to all at the Market Tavern for excellent food served in a great pub atmosphere, most highly recommended..

THE BEST PUB IN ALNWICK!!! We had the most amazing Sunday lunch… Olga and the team were so welcoming and squeezed us in, they were chatty and friendly but the food was fantastic, also great wine 👌🏼 We returned in the evening to the same friendly, comfortable and cosy atmosphere. Great wine, food, service and atmosphere!! Couldn’t fault this pub if I tried ❤️

Last ate here before covid. It's a great spot in town , lovely stove. Smashing service and very tasty food, generous portions.

Ate here with family on Saturday evening. I had the burger platter. I can honestly say it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. Absolutely outstanding. Beer was on top form too. Staff were great - very attentive to our son's severe nut allergy. A first class, well run pub. Top marks.

Lovely pub, friendly , polite and attentive staff. We had Sunday lunch, I had the Sirloin and my wife had the baked ham. All very tasty, fresh and hot. Will definitely back when in the area.

Four of us had lunch here for a celebration. Lovely friendly welcome by all the staff, we booked a dog friendly table and the staff were lovely with Betty the whippet, they brought a bowl of water for Betty without being asked. We all ordered something different, ham and eggs, macaroni cheese main, fish and chips and the Tavern burger platter. Every meal was thoroughly enjoyed by us, large portions indeed and my Mac n cheese was the best I've had. The Tavern chips were also delicious. We had a super lunch, the atmosphere was great and the music choice really suited our tastes too. So pleased we chose this pub for our celebration lunch. Would recommend without hesitation. Thankyou so much.

We booked in advance as other reviews advised it would be busy. We arrived on time and still waited 15 minutes for our table and very hectic. After ordering mains our food took 30 mins to arrive. We ordered the brisket & a mixed grill & side of winter veg. The brisket was delicious & plentiful, although It needed the side of veg, which I ate all of. The mixed grill was average, with less meat than expected for the price. Sirloin was quite small and very small sausages, which didn't taste very meaty. The waiter said they were trialling new sausages, so maybe these will be changed. 👎 Service was good, although a bit too busy and a long wait to be seated and for our food. There were people waiting longer who hadn't booked, so definitely book if you're going to eat here.

We are from Australia and we had a great lunch today 1/10/24 met the friendliest staff of ladies who made us and their regulars feel so welcome , we talked to a lovely young lady who had just got married about our spiders and crocodiles . It was a please to have picked that pub . Would have loved to spend more time there .

Fantastic. Beautiful food, very friendly and welcoming staff and just about the best meal we've had in years. We had the Steakhouse Special, Shepherds Pie and Pork Belly followed by Lemon Tart and Sticky Toffee Pudding with Custard to die for. Listening to the banter in the kitchen made us feel at home too 😆 Amazing experience. I'm not sure what the rooms are like but based on downstairs I'm confident they are just as first rate.

Nice little pub serving food, with 6 bedrooms. Ours was small with no outside window, but it was ensuite, and the bed was comfortable. A kettle was provided with tea & coffee, & biscuits. Lovely friendly, helpful staff.

This b and b is in the perfect spot, right in the thick of it. The taverns food menu is great, and the portions are large! The room was great, just a bit dated.

Went for dinner. Very good bread board. Steak reported to be very good, cod loin good. We had seafood linguine - also good but a bit too creamy - some chilli instead would have been more to our taste. Also that was not cheap. Staff friendly and helpful, and brought what we asked for promptly. Would be happy to go back.

It's our second visit whilst on holiday. The food was great and the staff were super friendly. It's a tad pricey for us so an occasional treat.

Absolutely Fantastic. Great service, super friendly, amazing food. All round a wonderful experience. I tried the Shepherds Pie and it was amazing and a good sized portion. I would really recommend a visit but please do book as it gets really busy. I guess that's what happens when you serve great food.

Lovely, friendly old tavern situated just off the market place in Alnwick. Cooper was very attentive ensuring that everything was alright. Enjoyed a friends sharing platter with two other family members. Enough high quality food for three. Definitely recommend it.

The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff was super friendly, making it an easy stay. The tavern itself was updated and had positive energy.

Great dinner, we ate here twice while visiting the area. The staff were really polite and helpful accommodating to allergies our party had. The food was great and great range to choose from! Would definitely visit here again if we were in the area :)

My wife and myself were in Alnwick for the week and our beautiful apartment in Angel Lane was next door to the Market Tavern and what a treat this place is , the staff were absolutely superb nothing was too much trouble for them and they enjoyed a bit of a laugh , we ate in there 4 times in the week and every dish was just so tasty , we had several different meals and couldn't fault a thing , great atmosphere in the place , the background music great, but back to the food , if you like a good steak dinner then this is a great steak dinner , melt in the mouth stuff without a doubt the best we have had , can't praise it enough , Thanks to everyone.

We called in here to see if there were any tables available, the bartender was very pleasant and got us seated straight away. Once seated we were brought a cold bottle of water without asking for it. This in our opinion is a nice touch. The service and the food were really good and the portion sizes are generous.

We came for dinner here on holiday. We enjoyed a comfortable table, but most importantly a lovely meal. We had a mix of meals: shepherds pie, scampi, stuffed mushrooms - yet the standout was the need brisket. The portion was generous and the cut of meat was fantastic. Loved it!

Traditional English pub serving real ale. Booked a table for 8.00pm but had to wait which was disappointing, what's the point of booking? Didn't have our food served until 9.50. However, the food was excellent, restaurant standard. The staff were friendly and polite. The place was very busy so recommend booking.

2 night stay in room 6, everything about this place is excellent, from the first minute to the last, The room had a comfortable bed and a modern bathroom, The bar had a friendly atmosphere and the staff were very accommodating, the prices are very reasonable compared to other bars locally for a lovely pint. The Dining area and food quality - was our favourite, quick friendly service by the table staff, food quality was beautiful and again very reasonably priced for very good, well presented food. Anyone visiting Alnwick or the local area needs to seriously consider staying at the Market Tavern. We couldn't fault it and can’t wait to return. Thank you all. Phil & Leeann.

Great place to eat and drink, the portions are big and the ingredients are fresh and tasty. We didn't book in advance but I would encourage it since they get really busy, we were lucky to get a table. They definitely don't skimp on alcohol in their drinks too, definitely great value for money.

Whilst staying in Ambke, we visited Alnwick to meet with some old friends that live in Alnwick. They booked a table at The Market Tavern, which did not disappoint. I have the rib-eye steak and it was the best steak I’ve ever had. Others had the venison and the pork belly, which they said was also delicious. The service topped it off and we had a lovely relaxed, enjoyable evening. . We are visiting their sister pub in Amble, The Harbour Inn on Friday, which I hope is just as good.

Never ate here but room was run down but clean. Have to say the bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Slept like a log. Tip would be leave more than a third of a loo roll in the bathroom.

Nice for Sunday lunchtime, although the menu is a bit limited, especially for vegetarians.

Amazingly, everything here was good. Beef brisket Sunday roast was so soft you could flake it off, and rib-eye was tender and of a good cut. Sticky ginger pudding with ice cream was excellent. Wait staff friendly and helpful. We liked it so much we pre-ordered their shepherd's pie to takeaway tomorrow (because their tavern specials are not available on Sundays).

Returned yet again for our usual lunch. The girls again lo9ked after us well, remembering my cushion and even what we ate last week. Again meal was lovely and the 2 girls looked after us well. We will be bk xxxx
