The Market Tap in East Riding of Yorkshire

I reviewed this pub about a year ago and I have to say it's the best pub in the village. Great selection of craft beers and a very warm welcome. If you're wanting a pint of "fosters" go elsewhere!!!!. I would highly recommend this pub, great atmosphere and you do not feel pressured in having to drink up and leave. There are a lot of craft beer pubs that are pretentious and make you feel that you have to have a degree in craft beer to drink there. market Tap is not one of those pubs (or any brew york pub). Try it and you will not be disappointed Continue to be a great little pub, popped in and had a pint of clever gyle, while they were playing coal chamber. What more could you ask for on a Friday afternoon Also they do good off sales

Great place, friendly bar with nice environment. Only stopped for a couple of drinks as its Sunday afternoon. Had Fairytail beer in the image, barman happy to let you try samples to help you make a decision. I hear the food is great although didn't try tonight.

Good food, nice selection of drinks and very reasonably priced.

Saw the Simon Walker "Review" and thought "what an idiot" Im old school goth/horror punk, and have had problems with people like the reviewer Simon Walker. He like to cause trouble but won't say anything at the time. He like to throw verbal abuse at young alternatives in the street (which is a crime but we will skirt over that) he made a comment on the ale, nowt wrong with it. But as an ex landlord, you will get the odd time that you will have a slight issue, the fact he never said anything to the staff at the time, shows he has alteria motives. Don't be a Simon Walker, a nobody who loves to complain about things that never happened.

Great pub with a lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and a nice selection of local drinks. Always pop in when out in Pocklington and never disappointed.

Great little place offering an interesting selection of craft ales. Plenty of seating and the food is good too. Ludicrous that they don't accept cash when asked why not they couldn't give me a straight answer. If it wasn't for this it would be superb.

Great selection of beers on tap, plenty of interesting pints. Asian food on offer is very good. Good for veggies/vegans, lots of options.

We are not from the local area and googled bars around, absolutely loved this place! The bartender was lovely to our dog (always a bonus) and the food was superb! We enjoyed playing scrabble and chess whilst enjoying the brews on tap. 5 stars goes to the music as well, about time a place threw in some decent rock bangers! Would come back again if in the area, 100%. Thanks again!

Good atmosphere but maybe the company

I was looking forward to visiting this Brew York outpost especially as it was offering some asian streetfood. Pretty disappointing really. The decor makes the average Costa look funky. We tried a few of the cask ales and mostly enjoyed them. However we were completely shocked by the unsettling and intense music. We Shazamed a few tracks out of curiosity and found the various artists we sampled were described as industrial metal, goth metal or death pop. Not exactly conducive to sitting with a beer/dinner and having a chat. We couldn't wait to get out. Despite this we thought we'd like to try the food one evening so having poked our heads in the next night and determined that the music wasn't quite such industrial-grade noise this session we opted to settle in and try the food. It was pretty good and promptly served up once you order via the app. Shame there were no chicken wings left though. Sadly my favourite ale from the previous session was in poor condition and undrinkable. I tried a couple of keg beers and they were well-made but not overly to my taste. Very busy place though so they're obviously doing it right most of the time.

Came here after a very long cycle so wasnt in the best of condition to enjoy lots of beers but the Juice Forsyth was great! Good was also lovely, and we really couldnt get enough!

Friendly bartender with good knowledge of the beers on tap, the food from Yuzu street food was incredible, all ordered through a qr code on the table really simple and easy to follow, this place is dog friendly also. Would highly recommend if your ever in pocklington

Always a great visit. Great ale and the Korean food is a bonus. Just could do with more tables, but that's no problem we just stand and drink and wait for a table.

Although it did take a really long time to us receive our food, it worth the wait. So tasty ~

Excellent food, hence the three stars. The service is really hit and miss. Often times it’s slow, and with no greeting when you arrive. This is especially a problem if you’ve ordered food to collect. You’re often waiting until a queue of people have been served their drinks before you can even notify the staff that you’re waiting on food. During today’s visit I had to wait until a number of customers tasted a couple of different beers - with zero acknowledgement from the staff, who were stood idle waiting for their decision. Common sense would suggest serving other customers while people decide. It would be good if there was a food collection waiting area so the staff know that you’re waiting for food.

Great little bar and restaurant in the middle of town. There was a good selection of ales, both cask and keg. Friendly barman too.

Great little set up, good beer (quality and range) and fantastic (mostly) Asian food! Staff were really friendly too! Well worth a visit if you're passing.

I want to give this place 5 stars, atmospheres good, beers great but needs improvement on customer service, I go in every few weeks, never welcomed on entry or in queue, member of staff slumped against the bar as the other serves. Basics of hospitality customer service needs improving (in my opinion). If this improves moving forward I'd be happy to give 5 stars 😊

Been on a couple of occasions in last fortnight and exemplary service and beer condition on both occasions. Was hoping to pop in again this afternoon but alas no designated driver...

The welcome is always friendly and welcoming and the service is great. The food is delicious and my husband loves the beer and there’s a good choice of wine and cocktails. Dom went out of his way to get a T.shirt for us as they didn’t have what we wanted in stock. We love this place, it’s our favourite watering hole in Pocklington.

An excellent place for interesting drinks, friendly atmosphere and pleasant surroundings. Right in the town square it’s a step up from the usual pub offering and is dog friendly. Looking forward to eating there next time, the food looked great .

We order takeout from Yuzu at The Market Tap in Pocklington on a weekly basis. The food is always amazing and the staff helpful and friendly. Hands down the best takeaway locally. Good vegan options. Keep up the great work!

Do not order takeaway food. We are on our fourth takeaway (which has just been refunded) and we’ve had problems with 3 out of the 4. Late, cold, inedible and they refused to remake as they’d ‘stopped serving’. Can be nice food if you get lucky but always very poor service and will avoid in future as just too unreliable. Hardly any apology/staff don’t seem to care.

Still has the modern ambient decor. A little small for space at times but there is another room upstaires A great selection of cask and keg ales all from the Brew York Brewery. 9 keg taps and 9 cask hand pulls. Ciders and cocktails also available. Food also available as Yuzu_asian streetfood. Certainly a trendy place to visit without piped music. Totally enjoyed my recent 2 hr visit there. Previously: Very good selection of craft and cask ales. Set in modern ambient rooms upstairs and down. And completely without irritating piped music. A must for any beer nut! Loved it!

I've been a fan of Brew York since they opened in York and have spent many a happy day in their tap House, so imagine my surprise when whilst in Pocklington I found The Market Tap, great beer choice, great knowledgeable staff, they do food but most of all they are dog friendly...

Amazing place, staff were so friendly and food from Yuzu was great! I don't drink but my boyfriend recommends the apple cider if you visit

Great bar from the team at Brew York, whilst the bar is small the well stocked range of beers, lagers and some cider isn't. Their is something for all tastes and there is a tasty food menu too.

No frills, bench style boozer and Chinese inspired food. Large portions, friendly staff, accomodated my disable mother in law with grace and a ramp for the steps. Good prices, tasty food on a limited menu but would recommend.

Great brewyork outlet in pocklington main street -certainly the best pub in the street by far. Well kept beers, friendly staff.

Really enjoyed my visit here. Served by a friendly young man with an excellent knowledge of the extensive range of craft beers who gave me advice when accompanied by my crowd of beer loving friends. Had a cherry beer and a couple of different spirits - delicious rum. Nice atmosphere. Will be back. Thank you

A fab bar with a great range of beers to suit all tastes. Particular shout out to Jo the manager, she is so very welcoming and knowledgeable on the beers. But she also has excellent taste in wines too and can happily recommend for you. A great place to be right in the heart of the town.

We were early for our slot it so waited outside as requested.Our drinks order was taken but nothing arrived after five or so minutes then we were invited in. I thought we were just waiting as people before us overstayed.We were sat side by side looking at a staircase.Our drinks arrived, order taken.I asked to move tables when the other table was ready and was told No as other people were coming in. We had all but finished our meal by the time anyone appeared.Id asked if we could move the table slightly so we were facing each other. No because they might have to bring the barrels in if it started raining.I believe it was because of the few mins it would have taken to clean the (sticky) table we sat at. Food - we had duck pancakes and fries between us to start.Wouldn't again. Fries were lovely. Pancakes were very pancake and little duck and minute.Both had katsu chicken curry for meal. Would again, very nice very filling.Man very knowledgeable about food and beer. Great selection of beers too.When asked if we enjoyed our meal i again complained about table and got yet another excuse, this time about Covid. Covid procedures were well established.Food ok but bad experience because of awful table.

It has been great every time we’ve been in to the market tap. Great friendly service, oh and fab beer too!!

Try the hide next door. Staff lack training and customer service. They seem overwhelmed by ... everything. Speed of service, incredibly slow. Improvement ideas...move faster and be nicer to the people spending hard earned money. This could be very nice but needs a lot of work...or different front of house. Wine was good, beer was good, price was alien. Nearly £13 for 2 drinks.

Had a take away from market tap and the food was delicious, but we were surprised when a sur charge was added to our order onto a what is already an expensive meal . Due to this we will not be having food from them again .

Is only open for if sales on Friday afternoons. Can't wait for it to re-open properly.

The best food and indie beers in town - book to avoid disappointment. It seems Joana and team have had a bit of a tough time on TripAdvisor recently, with sub-par reviews regarding customer service. As a regular who has enjoyed visits with my fiancé and with friends both before and after the pandemic, it’s safe to say J & team are doing a sterling job of serving amazing beers (and gins!) and food in challenging circumstances. They have to protect their licence and uphold social distancing rules. If you’re comfortable with following simple rules like wearing a mask when asked or signing in using the NHS App when you arrive then 5-star beers, food and most importantly service, await at the market tap. 100% recommended :)

What a great shame that such an enjoyable evening of fabulous beers and good food is overshadowed by such poor customer service. From arriving through to leaving, I truly felt that I wasn’t welcome and was an inconvenience rather than a valued customer. The sad thing is it clearly wasn’t anything personal, reading identical reviews and comments shows this to be a recurring attitude! I want to go back, I want to continue working through the beer menu. I just need the shift rota to avoid the unpleasant reception. A real shame

Visited the Market Tap last night for the first time. Food was nice, street food type vibe, disposable tableware etc, nice enough and good choice of drinks - but Jesus holy Christ the service we received from the mature lady working the floor was beyond horrific. She was astoundingly the most rude and miserable host we have all collectively ever experienced in the hospitality sector! To whoever owns this establishment - this woman is doing you a disservice! (Chap with the beard wasn’t much better but for different reasons I’m happy to explain 1:1)

Me and my husband recently moved to the area and love this little gem of a bar. It’s become a regular stop off. The beers are awesome and the guys there always look after us. I don’t know how long they’ve been there but the Yuzu street food are really good too. The duck fries are truly amazing! We are beer drinkers so possibly bias but it’s a must visit

I went in last Friday after calling up to enquire (2/10) and the main female server (dark hair) on each encounter with her, including the phone call, was the rudest person I've ever experienced in service...which is saying something considering I've just moved back North from London after 6 years where people are meant to be the rudest. Having just moved to Pocklington, I am saddened to witness this and won't be returning.

Great place, food delicious, wine and beer excellent and service brilliant. Good atmosphere and great choice of music. No complaints here, we'll be back!

Been a few times recently since The Market Tap re-opened after Lockdown and everything was good. Great range of decent craft beers (try the Espresso Petronum and the cherry and rhubarb beer - YUM!), and gins,The street food is great - especially the Bao buns and the loaded fries (I love the duck and pulled pork). There are also vgan alternatives to everything which is wonderful. THANKS Market Tap

Owned by Brew York, this pub is an absolute gem. It has a range of cask and keg beers that are all superbly kept. It's a proper beer bucket list place so if you have the chance to go, go!

Such good food, and really great beers you can't find elsewhere.

After waiting outside as instructed on the door, several minutes passed so decided it would be wise to open door to see if the invisible staff were anywhere to be seen, stepped in another few minutes passed then finally was greeted by an older lady who worked there, how rude! “Have you booked” she asked, to which I replied “no just wanting drinks”, she then replied very abruptly with, “can you wait outside it does say on the door”, I said “I noticed however have been waiting a while”. Out the door and off we went and will not be going back!!

Great atmosphere and FANTASTIC menu including various vegan options! We collectively tried just about everything (vegan). Huge fans of the 'V-KFC' bao buns, the veg gyoza were great, the sriracha spiced fries also delish & finally the tofu katsu curry was just the bomb! Great ale and also nice cider! Brilliant service from both the Market Tap staff and the Yuzu Street Food (kitchen) staff, who ran the food/ checked if it was okay/ collected from tables. Good Covid measures in place: Tables spaced well, sanitiser on the door, distancing markings on floor, staff wearing masks, advance booking etc. We visited on a Friday and popped in to book a couple of hours ahead, and were told we'd have 90 mins before the next reservation for that table - good to have that awareness and communication from the staff! Thank you for a fantastic dinner and drinks! ^_^

If you enjoy beer and you've never tried anything from Brew York do yourself a favour and head to the Market Tap in Pocklington. Brew York is one of the top breweries in the country and you'll find everything from exceptional IPAs to incredible stouts and porters, as well as lagers and guest beers from the top breweries around. In terms of drinks you'll also find a selection of wines and some delicious yorkshire gin. Something for everyone - and all very high quality.On top of this they have a delicious Korean street food menu to choose from, which looked amazing and I'll be making a visit very shortly to try some.Really pleased that Brew York have opened this bar in Pocklington and are serving some fantastic food and drink. Hoping it's a huge success and by the experience we had, it deserves to be.

Ordered from the yuzu menu online. Went to collect and got a phonecall saying half my order wasn't in, so had to change my order. Poor online service. Take it off the menu if it's not in. I ordered a couple of hours earlier for pickup and they rang me 5 minutes before to say my half my order was out of stock. Not happy #update# I emailed to show my disappointment and the owner emailed me back and gave me a full refund. Fair play to them. The food was very good, so will probably try again another day.

Popped in while passing - traditional ‘pub/bar’ with great Korean street food? Who knew? Had Korean chicken bao bun and Korean pork fries - Ab Fab. Will be back.

I’ve previously written a review but wanted to add another ‘Covid’ review. We booked and were given our ‘usual table’ which is great as we were remembered from previous visits. The Korean Street food is delicious, Katsu chicken curry, Goyozas and the loaded duck fries are amazing. The prices are such good value and despite the good social distancing there’s a really good atmosphere. Joanna is a great waitress and made us feel so welcome. Thank you Market Tap

Great little spot in pocklington. Great beer and brill food

Although the service was a little disappointing, the food served at this place is UNBELIEVABLE!SO SO GOOD. If you like asian street food, the definitely give it a go.Also a great bar, with lots of choice in regards to ales, beer etc. We went for the Yorkshire cider which was delightful.

Called for a few pints .offered a container containing not quite 4 pints £34 what a rip off no wonder it was empty pluss staff so unhelpfull don't deserve a job sack him after a reply from owner he thinks it's acceptable to pay £34 for 4 pints not quite that .in there container acceptable.well good luck with that .I was the only one in there and later when I passed

The Market Tap is a great place with amazing service, best beer and outstanding food ❤️ we had some takeaway from YUZU street food today and it was simply amazing - so fresh, innovative and tasty! We will definitely order next week! Definitely worth trying!

The Hop Studio opened the Market Tap a couple of years ago and it was a great addition to the town. At first. Last year things started to go downhill. The food became pretty poor (£20 for some bread and a few slices of charcuterie) and the bar was closed so often that I gave up visiting.Then Brew York took over and things have improved immeasurably. The decor / layout is better, the street food offering excellent and the opening times can be relied on.However, it's a shame the Hop Studio couldn't make a go of it as their beers are otherwise impossible to find (why?) and IMO marginally better than Brew York's - subtler and with a clearer taste profile. Still, Brew York has a wider range and its dark beers are amazing. So all in all, a win for Pocklington. I hope it thrives!

It was the first visit for me last night to eat ( my 10/12 friends having already been!) I had no idea what to expect so we bought as a group every dish & bought all from the menu so we could all taste the meals... It was a huge shock to my tastebuds, my sense of scents....the vibrancy it all tasted so many flavours , the colours & A 5 ⭐️From us girls! It was tantalising ...

Visited for the third time last night but this time, we ate here. We had various items from the menu including the chicken Katsu curry and gyozo, it was all very, very good and served in cardboard boxes, which is great for recycling.The bar has a lovely, friendly atmosphere, great choice of beers, friendly & welcoming staff and good value for money. This has become a ‘go to’ place in Pocklington for us.
