We booked through Travelzoo and our stay was good value in that respect. The hotel is nicely situated in attractive gardens with views of the sea. Sadly we couldn’t make the most of these as the weather let us down. Service was generally ok and breakfasts were good. What let the hotel down was the amount of wear and tear evident, dated decor and furnishings which had seen better days. Our room had no chairs and the small space could have been much better utilised - who needs a large fitted wardrobe for a short stay? The shower room had a cracked toilet seat and copious black mould and ingrained grime around the shower which is a poor reflection on the standard of maintenance. Time for a thorough refurbishment?

We arrived today 9/5 intending to meet 5 family members. We had done a reckie of opening times the day before, it states clearly on the board outside and on your website, opening times were 12.00. At 12.15 the door was still locked. There is nothing more annoying. We contacted our guests to inform them of a new venue. Can you really afford to turn away 7 guests?

Spent a couple of days at The Manor whilst visiting relatives nearby. A beautiful location with plenty of parking. Great views of the sea. Being an old manor house there is wear and tear, ie the carpets have seen better days, but the staff have worked very hard to provide the best possible experience. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back again.

This is our second visit to The Manor restaurant. Friends introduced us to it last year and we loved it so today was my birthday celebration. We arrived just before 7 and left just after 9 having abandoned our dessert order after watching several other people who arrived after us finish and leave. So very disappointing def not our "special" place again

4th visit to the Manor and the first since the new owners took over. Very happy with our stay for an anniversary short break. Really friendly service, you get the feeling that they will do anything to make your stay more pleasant. Not that we had to ask for anything unusual as all our needs were met with their standard service. The restaurant deserves special mention. The dinners were outstanding. The food was so well prepared and full of flavour. Squid and King prawn starters are well worth a try. The fish and chips was fantastic, with a light crispy batter with no sign of greasiness and perfectly cooked fish. The baked cod was cooked to perfection. The only comment I can make is the the room decoration was a little tired and a sweep with a feather duster to get rid of the cobwebs would be a good idea. But the room was very comfortable with no shortage of hot water for the very powerful shower.

Just a quick one night break but we had a great time - our room was large with a lovely sea view and a very comfortable bed. A very short walk to the beach for a stunning sunset. There was an issue with the gas supply so the menu was limited but all the food we had for dinner and breakfast was excellent and the cellar bar with log-burner really cosy (Inches cider on draft). Fresh milk in a fridge on the landing was a great idea for making nice tea! The manager Millie was fantastic dealing with the issues and we are already planning to return later in the year when we can sit out on the garden terrace to enjoy the views!

Hiked a loop from abbotsbury and stopped here for lunch. As it was the off season, many places were closed. We were so glad to find that the manor was open. I had a local Dorset crab linguine and it was honestly one of the best meals I've ever had. The crab was flavorful and plentiful and the whole dish was cooked and seasoned perfectly. My husband enjoyed his aubergine platter as well. Beautiful spot, great service, highly recommend!

The Manor West Bexington is a great location near Chesil beach. There is plenty of parking and the whole place has a charming country house atmosphere. The terrace sea view on a warm evening is magical. We prefer the larger rooms which we think are good value for money. The room we stayed in was spotlessly clean. This was our second stay and on both visits the staff were welcoming and helpful. Millie the general manager does a great job and is keen to make sure guests are comfortable and happy. My wife and I are very impressed with her attention to detail. The food, evening meals and breakfast was really nicely cooked and excellent value for money. Went for a wedding- which was beautifully arranged by the bride. Left with a very bitter aftertaste since I left an expensive charger cable in the room- I called 3 times and left multiple messages and also emailed twice, heard nothing so either happy to have staff steal leftover items or the service is awful to not even bother calling or contacting me back. Both are poor outcomes either way.

Wanting to visit this area, this hotel was a great find. We met friends there for a two night stay. We had booked Sunday lunch in advance, which was very welcoming and delicious. We then asked if our rooms were free, as it was quite early but we’re told there was no problem and we’re promptly shown up to them. We were told there was fresh milk on the landing nearby, very acceptable. Our rooms were bright and welcoming and although a little jaded in places, seemed to match the ambience of the old house. Our sea view was stunning. We then met up with our friends for a much needed walk along nearby Chesil beach. In the evening, we all felt too full for more dinner, so we asked if we could just have a cheese platter in the bar, no problem. Although the bar closed at 9.30pm we were told we could take any drinks into the lounge, which we did. After a really good and quiet night’s sleep in the very comfy bed we went for breakfast. Again, this was delicious and served by such friendly staff. We booked into dinner that evening and weren’t disappointed as the food was brilliant yet again. Nothing seemed too much trouble from the staff of this hotel. Even when we reported a leak from the bottom of the toilet, which my husband found when he got out in the middle of the night!!! we were told a plumber had been called but they put towels as a temporary measure. These things happen and didn't spoil our stay. Hopefully we will all return again in the future but would recommend this hotel for a quiet and relaxing stay.

The Manor Hotel, West Bexington Beach, Dorset is Open to none residents and dog friendly. The hotel is on the hill overlooking the beach and if you sit outdoors the views of the Jurassic beach are spectacular. Massive shout out to Frankie the manager, the company are very lucky to have her, very friendly and had driven from the Peak District, Derbyshire to cover duties for three days before driving back, now that’s commitment. Lovely position overlooking the sea, with very large, very quiet garden. Do NOT listen to SatNav to get there, follow the B3157 through Burton Bradstock. The staff were very friendly but understaffed, with only one person waiting at dinner on Thursday and breakfast on Friday morning, which went up to two on Friday/Saturday. Breakfast and dinner were absolutely delicious, particularly the wide range at breakfast. If the weather is hot I suggest you take a lightweight duvet. Pillows are one very soft and one very hard one each. Ancient stone flagged staircase from the Cellar Bar, and across the ground floor, but I didn't see any sign of a lift, so not suitable for wheelchair access. Great position for visiting Abbotsbury/ Bridport/ Weymouth or the spectacular local beach which has a cafe. Brilliant to unwind in, the loudest noise at night was the sound of the surf.

Four of us just returned from three days walking part of the Jurassic Coast. Stayed at a wonderful small hotel; The Chesil Beach Manor House at West Bexington. It is located just 100-m or so off the national trail. The manager Steve, Lucas and the rest of the small team created a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Beds very comfortable and the rooms nice and quiet. Food menu different for a pub and excellent quality. So was the wine list, gins and whiskies. Recommend the South African Chenin Blanc together with the fish pie. The prices were below average. We should know as we have stayed in many the last 5 years walking the national trails. My only reservation is writing this review. Now you know. Perhaps I should have kept it a secret.

This was our first visit and almost certainly our last. The building and grounds were very pleasant and well maintained. In the whole bar/restaurant we appeared to be the only customers. (lunchtime). The person in charge of the bar provided a service but nothing extra. We chose the vegan burgers which were not inexpensive. we were disappointed at the time it took for the food to arrive particularly given the lack of other customers. The meal was extremely disappointing. Given the venue and the price we expected something far far far better. The burgers were tasteless and neither of us worked out what the weird orange sauce was with the meal. . Anyway we wouldn't recommend you visit unless there are some real improvements to the food offering. Such a Shame as such a great location.

Tender, flavoursome and served with vegetables cooked exactly right. My daughter said the local crab was delicious as was my hake. My son's burger was well balanced with toppings and suitably meaty. A good varied menu then with something for everyone. Then the desserts - what can I say other than they were as delicious as the mains and well presented. Visited for Sunday dinner. Was expensive on all accounts from drinks to dinner.Halloumi fries were tasty and chilli jam was ok.Beef was pink which should have been advised as plate was bloody. Veggies were lovely but potatoes were very greasy. Lovely setting and staff were great.

We were after a last minute weekend away after a cancelled operation and this hotel was all that was available! Well how lucky were we! The hotel has the most idyllic setting and waking up each morning lying in bed and being able to see the sea what more could you want. The rooms are clean and comfortable, hospitality tray, complimentary toiletries beautifully comfortable beds and crisp cotton sheets and fluffy towels. The bar and restaurant are nicely appointed and there is a conservatory to eat in too. The gardens wrap around the hotel and so you can always find a table in the sunshine. The food was exceptional. Proper home cooked meals and my husband had the fillet steak which he said was the best steak he’d had for a long time. Service was good, the waiting staff attentive and helpful. We ended up eating in the hotel two out of the three nights we stayed as the food was so good. Nice choice in menu and everything was available both evenings. A wonderfully relaxing stay. We will definitely be back.

So disappointing - felt as though they were trading on their reputation and location rather than on the need to tempt guests back. Food was overcooked and poorly presented and the young woman who served us, was off-handed and somewhat discourteous. I wouldn't want to eat there again, but it is a nice place to sit and watch the sea.

Nearly a 5 star rating, but the food as good as it was is a bit over priced. Nevertheless, the staff were nice and it’s hard to find a better place than sitting on the terrace.

Stopped for a drink outside with great sea views after our walk to Burton Bradstock and back. Nice service and good selection of ciders. Cosy bar area where they also served crisps and chocolate. Clean toilets. Restaurant/conservatory area where you could eat also with stunning sea views. Decent menu, so hope to eat here one day.

Table booked for 630pm expecting roast option as several other customers were. I settled for halloumi burger with chilli jam.....yuk greasy halloumi chilli jam non existent, ok chips bit of tasteless salad. Very very disappointed. Their loss we would normally have a few drinks and desert but could not wait to get out. Husbands fish pie ok and service lovely. Would not bother going back. Very abrupt old person on reception.

Fish batter was soggy and very small fish inside it and when asked was everything OK I said not good. Oh I'll have a word with chef. When I paid I said the same and response was the same. I said as I've eaten it I'll pay and they promptly accepted it. Worst meal I've had in a recommended pub.

A really lovely pub. The food is all homemade and it’s such great value. It’s all delicious and fantastic service. There’s a great choice of gin, vodka and cider too! Would definitely return.

Good Second Hand Bookshops are becoming rarer than the books they sell. This one is a gem and worth a pilgrimage, take in a visit to the abbey as well! On the two occasions I visited shelves were stacked floor to ceiling, others were stacked on tables awaiting sorting. A great place to browse and discover an interesting book or two or more. This bookshop is mentioned in my 1992 93 copy of Drif's Guide to the Secondhand Bookshops of the British Isles. You can also take a break from book browsing and enjoy what the small cafe has to offer.

Super buzzy place with great selection of home made food, sweet and savoury. Staff seemed to be enjoying their job which is good to see. The outside courtyard is a good place to sit on a sunny day but a few more plants/ general mood setting things could make it glorious.
