Lovely pre dinner drink in the beautiful courtyard and then a fabulous dinner in the grill. The lamb was incredible and the steak and chips were just as good. My wife even got a small birthday sweet treat at the end of the dinner which was a lovely touch. Main dining room and the service were very good. Nathan and Alex S looked after us beautifully. A lovely way to spend a birthday evening.

Celebrated a birthday with lunch here at the end of April. Staff very pleasant & helpful, including our waitress Jill, who was friendly & efficient. Delicious lunch, shame no salt & pepper squid available but the ham hock was tasty. Steak was the best I have ever eaten, you could cut with a butter knife. Chips were to die for! Not the cheapest but for a celebration it was worth every penny. Nice touch was the complimentary sweet treats brought out at the end of our meal.

Super meal from start to finish. Sirloin Steak and lamb followed by the most amazing biscoff cheese cake! Special thanks goes to Kyle our server in James Martin’s Grill. He welcomed us and noted my Birthday as soon as we arrived and paid special attention to us sharing his knowledge of the locally sourced produce and highlighting the best accomplishments for our meal. He was attentive and easy to talk to and made our experience thoroughly enjoyable. He is an asset to the Lygon. Thank you!

New menu! Some interesting dishes to try! That said I miss the smoked duck and the cheese soufflé! Very good service from Val, Khalena, Sandor. Food prep from Luke and the kitchen brigade; the asparagus salad was really a potato salad (hardly any asparagus!). Let’s hope it’s an improvement next week!

We only popped in for a drink as new to the village and exploring. It’s expensive, be warned! It’s lovely and the staff were friendly, drinks are brought to you which is when we should have realised it’s a bit above your usual pub! £20 for a pint and a single rum seemed needlessly excessive though in honesty. I’m sure the restaurant is amazing, being a James Martin chain.

Visited for my husband’s birthday, accompanied by our dog. We had a drink in the bar as the table was apparently not available until 7 in the Russell room, which is where people with dogs are banished to; a room not unlike a 1980’s conference suite. The staff in the bar area were lovely and service was great. Went downhill after that. The Grill looked welcoming and vibrant, the Russell Room is not. Not sure why we had to wait until 7 as it was empty apart from one other couple. Would have been happier eating in the bar area and not feel like we were being punished for bringing our dog, which I appreciate not everyone is a fan of. Husband’s food was excellent apparently; lamb shanks. My was awful; gnocchi. Approximately 10 dry, obviously burnt and completely devoid of any flavour balls of nothingness in a bland, tasteless sauce. Not sure how it got sent out. Had it removed from the bill at the end and was not asked how the food was at any point after it had been delivered. Overall, an extremely expensive and overrated place to eat and drink.

Such a disappointment in every sense. First room had a broken phone, broken iPad, TV had only 5 channels, no ventilation in the bathroom so black mould on ceiling, walls and windows so we changed rooms. Second room had similar issues but mould was worse. Breakfast in the room was wrong and took over an hour to deliver it all - a plate, then toast then tea and coffee then another plate then the jams!! Again TV had limited channels, electrical fault caused lights and tv to go on and off. The Grill was vastly over priced, no flair about steak and chips and the meat ….. I’ve had better from M&S oh but the chips were nice. Restaurant was cold but the electric generator heater plugged in behind the table made up for the lack of atmosphere and no music. All staff behaved like every request was beneath them. Overall it was a disastrous stay which clearly the staff were used to as they gave us nearly a full refund.

What a place!! Stayed here for my birthday which my wife organised, really and truly didn't expect this place to be so good! From the point we walked through the gardens into the building I was blown away, what a beautiful building with so much history and the outdoor areas are stunning too! The service at every point was for us exceptional, from reception, their restaurant to the spa, outstanding! Dinner was very good, breakfast equally good with superior service to match, nothing was too much hassle for any staff we came across. The main dining hall, WOW is all ill say you have to experience it to truly feel/see how nice it is, great job on the design. I would say this is most definitely a 4 star hotel but it doesn't feel 'stuffy' at all very relaxed with nice clientèle and a cracking atmosphere to go. We are already planning returning at least a couple times this year with freinds so they can too experience this beauty. Thank you to all who made our stay special. See you soon

Beautiful location and hotel, delicious (though slightly overpriced) food, but the service of staff is very hit and miss. Feels like it’s gone downhill in recent years with the majority of staff being very inexperienced and needing better management. Often takes a long time to be served, a lack of proactivity, and a real need for someone experienced to take the reins.

We was lucky enough to stay on the night of one of James Martins Grill evenings so we got to see him enjoying a pint at the end of the evening. One other thing which was delicious was the vodka! Lovely stay here. The hotel is full of character and charm. The room was ok, no special touches but comfortable. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice although the room was very cold, even with a huge roaring fire lit. Receptionists were cold and unfriendly but Gary (the concierge) was an absolute delight to talk to and an asset to the hotel. The spa was ok, could do with an overhaul soon as it’s quite dated and I mentioned the lack of shower gel in the showers to the staff. Bar staff were very attentive & friendly. Overall, a very good hotel but lacking the special touches that make a five star hotel what they are. Some more investment in the property and staff training would make a big difference.

As a hotel guest, you expect to be able to sit down and enjoy the hotel that you are staying at. Think again at the Lygon. External private parties and afternoon teas are prioritised over hotel guests. Expect to walk around for 15 minutes playing musical chairs before, if lucky, you fight your way to a chair, unless another guest has bigger elbows than you. Then, when you finally get a seat, expect to wait for a long time to be served, and if you dare to mention to staff you would like, if not too much trouble, to spend some money with the hotel and order a drink, expect to be sighed at, looked down your nose at (particularly by one young man), before 15 minutes later receiving a drink. Some staff were very nice, but many were not. Such a shame as the hotel was recommended to me by someone who stayed a year ago. I can only assume a change of hands or loss of interest since their stay.

The historic aspect of this hotel is very special. It has charming areas of the lobby to sit and relax. We had some room issues and the maintenance staff was prompt and very accommodating. However, the service in the bar and restaurant for tea and dinner were disappointing and not at all what I expect from a 4star venue. The breakfast waitresses were very kind and did a good job, but the afternoon and evening team could use some training. All the employees wear their street clothes, so it is difficult to tell the difference between guests and staff. With all the awards Lygon Arms received, I was expecting so much more.

Popped in for lunch after visiting Broadway. Beautiful building on the main street, the atmosphere is warm and cosy, with wood beams, low ceilings and wooden floors in the bar area that has lots of nooks and crannies to sit in. The chairs are comfy and there are some areas with sofas around large coffee tables. Staff are friendly and welcoming. We didn't book ahead but they were able to find us a spot anyway, but I do recommend booking as it seems to be fully reserved most of the time. Food is truly excellent. The lowlight of our Cotswolds weekend when we visited for afternoon tea. Not one to normally write a negative review but the service was atrocious, and I had high expectations after seeing this on many guides. We were rushed to order tea without seeing a menu or being presented options, and when a few members of the group said they didn’t eat pork, were given full vegetarian teas without their consent. When asked to have the lox sandwich included (as it was noticeably missing from theirs), they begrudgingly brought an giant lox sandwich for an upcharge, and then when pressed for the regular sized tea sandwiches instead, brought a giant tray at the end of the meal which they also tried to charge us for (after gaslighting me and claiming they didn’t understand when I reiterated we only were missing the two small tea sandwiches). Afternoon tea is one of my mom’s favorite things to do when she visits, I have never been treated so poorly at an afternoon tea and highly regretted picking such a place with such rude and unwelcoming staff amidst so many great options in the area.

This was a slightly unusual luncheon experience. The restaurant was full when we arrived, but they managed to find a few extra chairs and seated us around a low table - not meant for eating a meal -but more for putting cup of coffee on - in sort of a den (I believe it is the room pictured on the On Foot site for the Lygon Arms). We ordered sandwiches, and were happy to be in such a cosy spot out of the rain.

Had wanted to eat at the Lygon Arms for several years and, on a recent long weekend in the Cotswolds, we finally did so. The place is full of character and the staff are all excellent, friendly and super-efficient. We were expecting Sunday lunch to be very good and significantly more expensive than your average place and that proved to be absolutely right. It was a super enjoyable experience, the food was excellent with very generous portions but with, say, a glass or wine or a beer, it will cost you about £75 per person. The place absolutely lived up to our expectations and we will definitely be back.

We visited last weekend. The hotel itself is quite beautiful . The staff were helpful and attentive. My only slight negative is that we were not furnished with a wine list … I ordered a cocktail from the food menu but when I’d finished it no one asked if I’d like a drink or bring a list of wine by the glass. The food was super and the Grill room is quite lovely. Shame the outside tables weren’t available in the evening but I understand it’s for noise control. The hotel generally doesn’t have air con. We wanted to dine off the grill menu and at first we were told it wasn’t available. So we were told we could eat on the terrace or in the bar which were different menus. We looked at the menus which didn’t really tick our boxes. So as we were leaving, the same gentleman we saw on arrival saw us and we said we didn’t fancy the menus as the grill menu shown outside is what drew us in. So we said thank you but we wouldn’t be staying. He then said he had an idea and asked one of his colleagues if we could eat in the lounge which was set up and you could eat from the grill menu. They said yes so we stayed. It was all a bit confusing. If the grill menu is available I am not sure why we couldn’t eat from it in the bar or terrace but the lounge was actually much nicer and we loved being in there also with our dog. The staff were all very pleasant. Our food was very nice though we were disappointed to order a side dish of broccoli with almonds and another side of seasonal veg (for variety) only to find the seasonal veg was 90% broccoli, the only difference was that there were no almonds! There were a few tiny shreds of sweetcorn and possibly one cube of a root vegetable which was so small I am not sure what it was and wasn’t sure if it was meant to be there! We were expecting Seasonal vegetables (plural) to be a mixture of seasonal vegetables and certainly not 90% of one vegetable that you can also buy as a side dish! Very unimaginative! Otherwise we did have a very pleasant lunch.

I was gifted a voucher for my birthday last year & had to use it before it expired, firstly it was very difficult just trying to book at the weekend as 8 of us wanted to go, eventually we were told we could have ‘The Champagne Bar’ sounds great actually it equals a bar unoccupied at the top of the dining room we also rang on the day to ask if two other friends could be added ? One & a half hours later we were told yes but only on a limited menu now as there was ten of us. We looked at this reduced menu & were very disappointed so we stuck to the original eight as planned. Food ordered & all the starters came out except mine which after asking where it was it finally arrived when everyone else had finished! Mains arrived & the food was delicious, a couple of glasses of wine had to be chased up but arrived eventually! When we asked how often James Martin visited we were told maybe once a month & we replied well maybe he should visit more often ! Having paid £210 for just myself & my husband I can confirm it wasn’t worth it & wont be going back sadly our friends agreed with us.

Probably the worse Afternoon Tea I have experienced in respect of quality of food, presentation and customer service. Every area failed to even reach a ‘mediocre’ standard. I went with friend, each of us celebrating our respective Birthdays - I even phoned again on the morning to emphasise that point - no acknowledgment at all! Cheap white sliced bread, excessive mustard smeared over over outer areas of sandwiches, only offered Tea or Coffee, no varieties at all, no menu. Overly sweet cheap deserts - impossible to handle as gluey and soggy. Difficult to find anyone to ask for hot water, to pay etc - eventually paid in bar - the bar man didn’t have the basic courtesies to ask if we’d enjoyed our Tea or experience - just took our money - I didn’t even realise the service charge as he never offered me a bill or asked if I was happy to pay. James Marin would be appalled to know his name was being associated with this poor quality. The Manager should also reflect on their own skills regarding recruitment and training. Although a frequent visitor to Broadway will never visit the Lygon again and will advise friends and colleagues of laissez faire arrogance of facility and staff - clearly a cultural problem resting on location. It’s unlikely, based on this experience that the Lygon will even respond

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the iconic Lygon Arms in Broadway, Cotswolds, and it truly is a lovely boutique hotel. The building itself is impressive, and the ambiance is charming. The highlight of my stay was undoubtedly the ambiance and food at the hotel. The culinary experience was exceptional, and each dish was a delightful blend of flavors. While the reception and concierge staff were attentive and provided excellent service, I must express my disappointment with the restaurant managers. Their lack of customer service skills was evident and left a sour taste in my mouth. It's disheartening when the service doesn't match the quality of the food and atmosphere.

Wow ! What a place, the size of the building seems to take up a lot of the High Street, where it is located. We arrived at the back of the building because thats where they have two carparks. From the carpark, you head through the courtyard, where rooms are on either side. It was quite interesting trying to find reception, but we found it in the end, as it felt like we were in some type of maze. We checked in & headed to our courtyard yard room on the ground floor, as we had a Cockapoo named Freddie with us, the hotel is very dog friendly & has lots of little extras for your four legged furry friend. Once in the room, there was a Queen size bed & a dog bed with water & food bowl & everything you would need in the bathroom & room.. We were booked in for dinner in the dog part of the restaurant, or so we thought, as we were not down in their dinner booking list, but in the email, the dinner booking was confirmed, luckily they had spare tables. The curry we chose was lovely, and we went down nicely with the Pims we had. Breakfast the next day was lovely, but I do feel that the dirty dishes & plates could have been cleared from the the table, as the tables are quite small, so we just piled up the dirty plates & dishes so we could have toast & marmalade. When we checked out, they said we could leave the car in their carpark for a few hours, so we could explore the whole high street in the Broadway & the hotels 3 acres of garden at the back.

I just finished a four-night stay at the Lygon Arms in Broadway. The staff is kind and solicitous. The room is charming and nicely appointed. The bed was very comfortable with crisp, soft-touch linens, and the the towels are thick and soft. However, the lighting in my Classic Annex room was abysmal, which is why I only give three stars for the room rating. It looks as though they just chose LED bulbs for old incandescent fixtures that are too low in light output. It's an easy fix. But as it was, the light in the room was too dim to read by in bed. And the lights over the bathroom sink/mirror were too dim to see your own face to attend to a basic task like shaving. The housekeeper told me the bathrooms in the annex will be renovated soon. Hopefully they will give some thoughtful attention to the lighting. The building is lovely and full of charm. The location is great. It's right on charming Broadway's High Street, and has adequate parking. The fitness center and pool looked wonderful although I didn't get to use them. The Tavern at the Lygon Arms has great food! Very tasty and well prepared. And breakfast in the Grill was very good with plenty of buffet and a la carte options. The staff in the Grill was wonderful. I also enjoyed a dinner in the Grill.

The hotel was fine, but be careful where you park. The hotel directed us to a back parking lot. It was night so getting to the lot, let alone seeing that this little town had a paid parking kiosk for their hotel was not expected and signage was not lit. The real reason for a 1 star review... If the hotel staff had simply said, "It's paid parking...." but no, and their follow up support on being ticketed for parking was to say "sorry". 8 months later I finally settled with parking eye the people who run the parking lot. I showed them receipts of our visit to Lygon Arms. They didn't care and their timeline for ticket payment when you are traveling from overseas is impossible to meet resulting in threats etc. It felt like a fine factory for foreign travelers not willing to challenge things. Also charged by rental car company "admin fee" for ticket, charged by "parking Eye" and zero support from Lygon Arms. "It was out of their hands". I get willful disregard, but I had receipts and was clearly a patron, so a little understanding and help would have gone a long way. your mileage may vary.

Superb lunch today! Service was faultless as was each of the four dishes we had. The tuna niçoise was sensational; literally melted in the mouth! Special for mention for Luke who I gather was the chef who prepared it! Well done to Luke and thank you.

Famous old hotel built in Cotswold Stone, old part with creaky floors, good service but food takes a while to get from kitchen to table. Having said that the staff are charming. Don't forget to register for parking or you'll get a fine !

Brilliant setting (13C) hotel with extremely luxurious maze of rooms leading to one of many dining areas. Met at the door and escorted to table. Excellent service and tea and cakes, etc served with an explanation of what was what. Copious refills of tea and coffee followed by champagne. Not rushed at all and could have stayed longer. Lest very satisfied - and full!

We booked for afternoon tea, we were really looking forward to it. We had read on the website there was parking but initially we really struggled to find it as it is hidden behind the hotel when we did there was only one space so we ended up blocking each other in, not ideal but worked. We were a little early so we asked if we could register our cars and look round the shops which we were allowed to do. Arrived for afternoon tea hovered in the room for a while waiting for a server. Taken to our table very nice setting. Can’t lie staff were unenthusiastic and seemed like they wanted to be anywhere but there. Afternoon tea took a while to arrive and when it did the server couldn’t explain what the items were. Sandwiches were ok nothing special. Scones we had were raw in the middle we asked if it was possible to have fresh ones which wasn’t a problem but sadly when they arrived they were also raw so we left them. Cakes were nice and good size. Came to paying and we requested to take the service charge off and leave it in cash instead. The waitress questioned us on this and rolled her eyes. As we were collecting our things we could hear the waiting staff moaning that we had taken off the service charge off I won’t repeat what they called us but wasn’t pleasant. I used the toilet and when I returned they were still moaning. So just so the waiting staff are aware the mirrored screen isn’t sound proof and we heard everything you said about us. After hearing this we chose not to leave a cash tip. Left quite frustrated. Setting is nice and afternoon tea ok on the expensive side for what it is. Staff let the side down sadly.

Lovey looking venue, staff are great , drinks are on the pricey side however wine was very good. We were expecting a wonderful food experience however it turned out to be very average and for the high price was very disappointing. Overall what we ordered was very bland including the cheese board that came straight out of a very cold fridge. 3 course meal for 2, 1 driver and not having steak £230

I can only say that it's over priced and trying to be smoothing more than it is. It lacks the character it's aiming for. It needs to improve its game in elegance if it wants to change that much.

Five members of family and friend visited The Lygon for afternoon tea on Monday 25/03/24. Despite not being in the fullness of youth we were invited to sit on the most uncomfortable sofa around a coffee table! Despite there being obviously 5 in our party, we were presented with "tea" for 4 - which arrived after a substantial wait. We pointed out to staff that there were actually 5 in the party - cue for another long wait whilst the staff rectified the situation!! The scones presented to my wife (gluten-free) were harder than rock cakes, the remaining scones were so crumbly that they disintegrated before cream/jam could be applied. If this wasnt enough, when we paid, the hotel had the audacity to automatically apply a 12.5% "service charge" - which was not paid needless to say. All in all, a very disappointing show from the Lygon. As we are local, we will think more than twice about returning.

A real gem. Step through the old front door and this place opens up into separate rooms with several log fires and comfortable seating. Head straight to the back for a bar with table service. Lovely beers, wines and cocktails. The food was delicious here and the service from the friendly young staff was exceptional. Dogs welcome and fussed over with free treats. One of the best places I have visited in a long time. Highly recommended.

Dined here this afternoon at the Grill by James Martin (New Year's Day 1/1/24). Lovely food and lovely service, especially by the young Asian/Chinese lady. Very personable and friendly, and made all the difference. The only quibble I'd have is that when I was asking for directions to the restaurant at the hotel's front desk reception (my first time here), I was met by a disinterested / bored / unfriendly receptionist (dyed blonde hair female, early to mid 20s, this was at about 12pm today 1/1/24). I won't go into details as to what transpired but it was not a warm welcome or any welcome at all. I'd suggest that this member staff undergo further training in customer service. This is so that she is able to convey better first impressions especially to someone who has come from many miles afar (Australia) to be part of the Christmas/New Year's celebrations here. Thank you.

The Lygon is something unique! You'll be astounded from the moment you arrive by it's character and TARDIS like transition into a grand and beautiful hotel behind it's quaint exterior on Broadway high Street. The hotel is fabulously equipped with all of the facilities you would expect to find from pool, gym and just about a fireplace in every social area making it a very cosy atmosphere during the winter. The staff were fantastic and we were extremely well taken care of, a personal thank you to Graeme and Paul for being such fabulous hosts 😊 10/10 experience, and I eagerly look forward to next time!

A beautiful hotel in a beautiful place. The hotel had lots of charm and was perfect for a winter getaway. Gorgeous rooms and a lovely breakfast in the morning. It was very cosy with the log fire burning in the lounge. We had everything we needed. The staff were very accommodating. I felt very relaxed there. Broadway is a beautiful quaint village, and the surrounding areas are also beautiful. There is a long drive you can go on that visits all the areas of beauty in the Cotswolds. Recommend a trip to Bourton-on-the-water also. I would definitely return to the Lygon Arms. Thank you.

Had a tough prawn pasandra tonight - the sauce was watery ,limp and flavourless . Bit of a shock having a few whole grapes in it - would have preferred some curry flavouring . Prawns were awful and very chewy . My Garlic rice was nice . Hubby had garlic chicken which was tasteless . Again very limp and watery sauce. He didn’t like his Kebab starters and popadoms were smashed and in tiny pieces . Bombay aloo starter was also not tasty . Waste of £35 and out be returning or recommending to locals . We did wonder why our local Chinese take away was so busy .
