Popped in for lunch after visiting Broadway. Beautiful building on the main street, the atmosphere is warm and cosy, with wood beams, low ceilings and wooden floors in the bar area that has lots of nooks and crannies to sit in. The chairs are comfy and there are some areas with sofas around large coffee tables. Staff are friendly and welcoming. We didn't book ahead but they were able to find us a spot anyway, but I do recommend booking as it seems to be fully reserved most of the time. Food is truly excellent. I can highly recommend the Fish Finger Sanger, and the Lygon Burger. And the chips are genuinely amazing. Overall excellent and easy to recommend!

The lowlight of our Cotswolds weekend when we visited for afternoon tea. Not one to normally write a negative review but the service was atrocious, and I had high expectations after seeing this on many guides. We were rushed to order tea without seeing a menu or being presented options, and when a few members of the group said they didn’t eat pork, were given full vegetarian teas without their consent. When asked to have the lox sandwich included (as it was noticeably missing from theirs), they begrudgingly brought an giant lox sandwich for an upcharge, and then when pressed for the regular sized tea sandwiches instead, brought a giant tray at the end of the meal which they also tried to charge us for (after gaslighting me and claiming they didn’t understand when I reiterated we only were missing the two small tea sandwiches). Afternoon tea is one of my mom’s favorite things to do when she visits, I have never been treated so poorly at an afternoon tea and highly regretted picking such a place with such rude and unwelcoming staff amidst so many great options in the area.

This was a slightly unusual luncheon experience. The restaurant was full when we arrived, but they managed to find a few extra chairs and seated us around a low table - not meant for eating a meal -but more for putting cup of coffee on - in sort of a den (I believe it is the room pictured on the On Foot site for the Lygon Arms). We ordered sandwiches, and were happy to be in such a cosy spot out of the rain.

Had wanted to eat at the Lygon Arms for several years and, on a recent long weekend in the Cotswolds, we finally did so. The place is full of character and the staff are all excellent, friendly and super-efficient. We were expecting Sunday lunch to be very good and significantly more expensive than your average place and that proved to be absolutely right. It was a super enjoyable experience, the food was excellent with very generous portions but with, say, a glass or wine or a beer, it will cost you about £75 per person. The place absolutely lived up to our expectations and we will definitely be back.

We visited last weekend. The hotel itself is quite beautiful . The staff were helpful and attentive. My only slight negative is that we were not furnished with a wine list … I ordered a cocktail from the food menu but when I’d finished it no one asked if I’d like a drink or bring a list of wine by the glass. The food was super and the Grill room is quite lovely. Shame the outside tables weren’t available in the evening but I understand it’s for noise control. The hotel generally doesn’t have air con. It’s unfortunate but not terrible! Our room did actually have it. The spa was a welcome retreat and very relaxing. Overall it was a wonderful stay and I am excited to return again soon!

We wanted to dine off the grill menu and at first we were told it wasn’t available. So we were told we could eat on the terrace or in the bar which were different menus. We looked at the menus which didn’t really tick our boxes. So as we were leaving, the same gentleman we saw on arrival saw us and we said we didn’t fancy the menus as the grill menu shown outside is what drew us in. So we said thank you but we wouldn’t be staying. He then said he had an idea and asked one of his colleagues if we could eat in the lounge which was set up and you could eat from the grill menu. They said yes so we stayed. It was all a bit confusing. If the grill menu is available I am not sure why we couldn’t eat from it in the bar or terrace but the lounge was actually much nicer and we loved being in there also with our dog. The staff were all very pleasant. Our food was very nice though we were disappointed to order a side dish of broccoli with almonds and another side of seasonal veg (for variety) only to find the seasonal veg was 90% broccoli, the only difference was that there were no almonds! There were a few tiny shreds of sweetcorn and possibly one cube of a root vegetable which was so small I am not sure what it was and wasn’t sure if it was meant to be there! We were expecting Seasonal vegetables (plural) to be a mixture of seasonal vegetables and certainly not 90% of one vegetable that you can also buy as a side dish! Very unimaginative! Otherwise we did have a very pleasant lunch.

I was gifted a voucher for my birthday last year & had to use it before it expired, firstly it was very difficult just trying to book at the weekend as 8 of us wanted to go, eventually we were told we could have ‘The Champagne Bar’ sounds great actually it equals a bar unoccupied at the top of the dining room we also rang on the day to ask if two other friends could be added ? One & a half hours later we were told yes but only on a limited menu now as there was ten of us. We looked at this reduced menu & were very disappointed so we stuck to the original eight as planned. Food ordered & all the starters came out except mine which after asking where it was it finally arrived when everyone else had finished! Mains arrived & the food was delicious, a couple of glasses of wine had to be chased up but arrived eventually! When we asked how often James Martin visited we were told maybe once a month & we replied well maybe he should visit more often ! Having paid £210 for just myself & my husband I can confirm it wasn’t worth it & wont be going back sadly our friends agreed with us.

Probably the worse Afternoon Tea I have experienced in respect of quality of food, presentation and customer service. Every area failed to even reach a ‘mediocre’ standard. I went with friend, each of us celebrating our respective Birthdays - I even phoned again on the morning to emphasise that point - no acknowledgment at all! Cheap white sliced bread, excessive mustard smeared over over outer areas of sandwiches, only offered Tea or Coffee, no varieties at all, no menu. Overly sweet cheap deserts - impossible to handle as gluey and soggy. Difficult to find anyone to ask for hot water, to pay etc - eventually paid in bar - the bar man didn’t have the basic courtesies to ask if we’d enjoyed our Tea or experience - just took our money - I didn’t even realise the service charge as he never offered me a bill or asked if I was happy to pay. James Marin would be appalled to know his name was being associated with this poor quality. The Manager should also reflect on their own skills regarding recruitment and training. Although a frequent visitor to Broadway will never visit the Lygon again and will advise friends and colleagues of laissez faire arrogance of facility and staff - clearly a cultural problem resting on location. It’s unlikely, based on this experience that the Lygon will even respond

We took a 3-hour round trip for a birthday lunch and were ultimately disappointed. The nibbles (bread and calamari) were as expected, but our main courses fell short. For the price, we anticipated a better experience, but we were let down. We ordered chicken, cod, and pork, and found the sides overpriced. Additionally, our first choice of wine was unavailable, and the service, while courteous, lacked polish and personality, leaving us feeling disconnected from our waitress. The whole experience was bland from start to finish ….. unfortunately we would not return or recommend. Sorry Lyon but we just expected more.

Went for lunch yesterday with friends at the ‘Grill’. It was extremely hot and the room although beautiful, had no fans or air con. The waiting staff looked like they couldn’t wait to leave. No real interaction, recommendations, or explanation of the menu. For the prices charged (£260 for 4 people and a bottle of wine) I expected a LOT more. The food was also pretty average to be honest. Overall not the best experience and probably wouldn’t go back. Must try harder.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the iconic Lygon Arms in Broadway, Cotswolds, and it truly is a lovely boutique hotel. The building itself is impressive, and the ambiance is charming. The highlight of my stay was undoubtedly the ambiance and food at the hotel. The culinary experience was exceptional, and each dish was a delightful blend of flavors. While the reception and concierge staff were attentive and provided excellent service, I must express my disappointment with the restaurant managers. Their lack of customer service skills was evident and left a sour taste in my mouth. It's disheartening when the service doesn't match the quality of the food and atmosphere.

Had lunch in the restaurant and the food was delicious. The cod was a taste sensation! 4 year old granddaughter catered for equally well. All great 👌. Loos really need sorting out though. Bit pong whiffy 😕. Went back on Sunday afternoon for drinks in the courtyard. Lovely location. Unfortunately, waited at least 35 minutes before we found someone to take our order and then another 15 minutes before they came. Cocktails were good. Didn't notice I'd been charged a service charge on my bill, which had I done so, would have challenged as service was not as expected. As an aside, loos downstairs, equally fragrant 🙄.

Wow ! What a place, the size of the building seems to take up a lot of the High Street, where it is located. We arrived at the back of the building because thats where they have two carparks. From the carpark, you head through the courtyard, where rooms are on either side. It was quite interesting trying to find reception, but we found it in the end, as it felt like we were in some type of maze. We checked in & headed to our courtyard yard room on the ground floor, as we had a Cockapoo named Freddie with us, the hotel is very dog friendly & has lots of little extras for your four legged furry friend. Once in the room, there was a Queen size bed & a dog bed with water & food bowl & everything you would need in the bathroom & room.. We were booked in for dinner in the dog part of the restaurant, or so we thought, as we were not down in their dinner booking list, but in the email, the dinner booking was confirmed, luckily they had spare tables. The curry we chose was lovely, and we went down nicely with the Pims we had. Breakfast the next day was lovely, but I do feel that the dirty dishes & plates could have been cleared from the the table, as the tables are quite small, so we just piled up the dirty plates & dishes so we could have toast & marmalade. When we checked out, they said we could leave the car in their carpark for a few hours, so we could explore the whole high street in the Broadway & the hotels 3 acres of garden at the back.

Really terrible experience. I don’t think they are ready to receive guests. This was our second visit and we booked three nights with the hope that it would be the same old hotel where we stayed for years back. Unfortunately, we were mistaken. Service is really terrible, Most people are really not bothered if you’re there or not. Some of them seem to be having a perpetual bad hair day. Yesterday, breakfast was served half an hour after closing time because the chef could not handle the orders though the restaurant was only 40% full . Today our room was not serviced till 5 pm and we had to complain. Standard excuse it has been outsourced so they are not responsible. I don’t think this hotel is ready to receive guests! Caution! Please don’t get carried away by the coaching in selling gimmick. All rooms were made much later! Only the Reception , Restaurant and sitting areas are the original coaching in if so!

The outside is amazing but the rooms dreadful. Stayed in a superior room in the annexe and found the room to be utterly depressing. The building was awful. No colour or pattern, so dark - it’s June ! The bathroom was tired. Breakfast room was nice but someone needs to dust the lights - the cobwebs are shocking for a high end hotel. I wish I had filmed the filth. The barman in the bar area cannot make either an old fashioned or passion fruit martini so the drinks were well below average for an expensive hotel.

I just finished a four-night stay at the Lygon Arms in Broadway. The staff is kind and solicitous. The room is charming and nicely appointed. The bed was very comfortable with crisp, soft-touch linens, and the the towels are thick and soft. However, the lighting in my Classic Annex room was abysmal, which is why I only give three stars for the room rating. It looks as though they just chose LED bulbs for old incandescent fixtures that are too low in light output. It's an easy fix. But as it was, the light in the room was too dim to read by in bed. And the lights over the bathroom sink/mirror were too dim to see your own face to attend to a basic task like shaving. The housekeeper told me the bathrooms in the annex will be renovated soon. Hopefully they will give some thoughtful attention to the lighting. The building is lovely and full of charm. The location is great. It's right on charming Broadway's High Street, and has adequate parking. The fitness center and pool looked wonderful although I didn't get to use them. The Tavern at the Lygon Arms has great food! Very tasty and well prepared. And breakfast in the Grill was very good with plenty of buffet and a la carte options. The staff in the Grill was wonderful. I also enjoyed a dinner in the Grill.

The hotel was fine, but be careful where you park. The hotel directed us to a back parking lot. It was night so getting to the lot, let alone seeing that this little town had a paid parking kiosk for their hotel was not expected and signage was not lit. The real reason for a 1 star review... If the hotel staff had simply said, "It's paid parking...." but no, and their follow up support on being ticketed for parking was to say "sorry". 8 months later I finally settled with parking eye the people who run the parking lot. I showed them receipts of our visit to Lygon Arms. They didn't care and their timeline for ticket payment when you are traveling from overseas is impossible to meet resulting in threats etc. It felt like a fine factory for foreign travelers not willing to challenge things. Also charged by rental car company "admin fee" for ticket, charged by "parking Eye" and zero support from Lygon Arms. "It was out of their hands". I get willful disregard, but I had receipts and was clearly a patron, so a little understanding and help would have gone a long way. your mileage may vary.

We booked for afternoon tea, we were really looking forward to it. We had read on the website there was parking but initially we really struggled to find it as it is hidden behind the hotel when we did there was only one space so we ended up blocking each other in, not ideal but worked. We were a little early so we asked if we could register our cars and look round the shops which we were allowed to do. Arrived for afternoon tea hovered in the room for a while waiting for a server. Taken to our table very nice setting. Can’t lie staff were unenthusiastic and seemed like they wanted to be anywhere but there. Afternoon tea took a while to arrive and when it did the server couldn’t explain what the items were. Sandwiches were ok nothing special. Scones we had were raw in the middle we asked if it was possible to have fresh ones which wasn’t a problem but sadly when they arrived they were also raw so we left them. Cakes were nice and good size. Came to paying and we requested to take the service charge off and leave it in cash instead. The waitress questioned us on this and rolled her eyes. As we were collecting our things we could hear the waiting staff moaning that we had taken off the service charge off I won’t repeat what they called us but wasn’t pleasant. I used the toilet and when I returned they were still moaning. So just so the waiting staff are aware the mirrored screen isn’t sound proof and we heard everything you said about us. After hearing this we chose not to leave a cash tip. Left quite frustrated. Setting is nice and afternoon tea ok on the expensive side for what it is. Staff let the side down sadly.

Five members of family and friend visited The Lygon for afternoon tea on Monday 25/03/24. Despite not being in the fullness of youth we were invited to sit on the most uncomfortable sofa around a coffee table! Despite there being obviously 5 in our party, we were presented with "tea" for 4 - which arrived after a substantial wait. We pointed out to staff that there were actually 5 in the party - cue for another long wait whilst the staff rectified the situation!! The scones presented to my wife (gluten-free) were harder than rock cakes, the remaining scones were so crumbly that they disintegrated before cream/jam could be applied. If this wasnt enough, when we paid, the hotel had the audacity to automatically apply a 12.5% "service charge" - which was not paid needless to say. All in all, a very disappointing show from the Lygon. As we are local, we will think more than twice about returning.

Dined here this afternoon at the Grill by James Martin (New Year's Day 1/1/24). Lovely food and lovely service, especially by the young Asian/Chinese lady. Very personable and friendly, and made all the difference. The only quibble I'd have is that when I was asking for directions to the restaurant at the hotel's front desk reception (my first time here), I was met by a disinterested / bored / unfriendly receptionist (dyed blonde hair female, early to mid 20s, this was at about 12pm today 1/1/24). I won't go into details as to what transpired but it was not a warm welcome or any welcome at all. I'd suggest that this member staff undergo further training in customer service. This is so that she is able to convey better first impressions especially to someone who has come from many miles afar (Australia) to be part of the Christmas/New Year's celebrations here. Thank you.

Just stunning! We came here for our anniversary for a meal at The Grill. The staff are friendly, professional and engaging. The food was everything and more that we expected and the atmosphere and environment were breathtaking. It was just amazing in every way. The decorations were amazing and the lighting was spot on. It was so good we came back the following day for a coffee! I would definitely recommend this place for a stay, drink or dinner. Lots of cosy nooks and crannys and places to sit and relax. Will definitely be coming back!!

I came with my partner after he booked us a night here for my birthday. It was a great night away together to explore the town, have a great meal, and use the spa facilities. The service here was exceptional. We received help with our bags and the person helping us was incredibly friendly. The bar staff was also great. There is a lot of space to lounge around the bar and lobby area. It’s a very cozy hotel. The spa area was quiet for the most part. There were two children there for a moment and they weren’t too loud or disruptive. We may have lucked out with timing, but it was quiet and relaxing when we were by the pool.

Average hotel. Food subpar, asked for medium rare steak, arrived extremely rare. Staff inattentive. Food overpriced. I understand the hotel is old however it was extremely cold and has a damp smell.

This could be a spectacular venue but is totally and utterly let down by its service. Like so many beautiful venues in England (and the Cotswolds) there is no attention to detail, no ‘sweating of the small stuff’ and instead just random decision making and enforcement of ‘policies’ by completely inexperienced junior staff given an inch of ‘power’ enacting rules set by absent, greedy management. Something which is sadly now common place in England and a travesty compared to the hospitality of the old ‘inns’ where anyone was welcome and greeted affectionately. Our experience was as follows… Saturday 16.00 we walk into the Tavern which was completely empty and ask if we can come in for a drink and sit at the small bar only to be greeted by a nervous young staff member who rushed over to tell us rather abruptly and rudely that we couldn’t come in as the bar was ‘reservation only’. This was at a time when the high street was packed and the bar was completely empty… Saturday 18.15 we had a reservation at the Grill. Here the food was actually excellent (Prawn cocktail and salmon to start followed by lamb shank and ox tail suet pudding) the wine was reasonably priced and the service was really good. Saturday 20.00 we moved into the lobby bar choosing to sit on one of the leather chesterfields by an open fire. Whilst deciding on our drinks my partner was sat on the corner of the large wooden table so we could both look at the menu only to be told by a young obnoxious server that she ‘wasn’t allowed to sit on the table’ and to ‘sit on the sofa’. When challenged on why this server felt the need to make this bizarre request we were told ‘the table is old and might get damaged’. The table was a basic rustic solid oak table in no way an antique or in any danger of ‘damage’. We then commented to the manager how we had just been treated and the young server was not seen again after the manager agreed that this was completely ‘ridiculous’. Later in the same evening (22.00) a local couple came and sat on the sofa only to be approached by another young obnoxious server who asked if they were hotel or restaurant guests. When they said they were not but that they live in the village and had ‘popped in’ for a drink they were immediately asked to leave! The reason given was that the lobby was reserved for restaurant and hotel guests. At this point the lobby bar was 30% full as it stayed for the rest of the night…. At 23.00 we were told it was last orders for ‘non residents’! Again what a random ‘rule’ when we had just paid the equivalent of a two night stay in the restaurant…. On paying we were confronted with a bill that had an automatic 12.5% Service charge which we refused to pay due to the shockingly poor service which clearly came as a surprise to the young server who then proceeded to ask ‘if everything was ok with the service’…. Utterly tone deaf.

Excellent country hotel, with friendly staff, and comfortable luxury rooms. Gym, spa, and pool available. Lots of nice little touches like valet parking and a hot-water washing station for dirty boots and dogs in the courtyard. Food at the James Martin grill is average and expensive: there are better options a short walk away for breakfast and dinner.

Superb venue. I went there for my sisters wedding. We all had a great time. Whether it’s for an event or a weekend away, this is an excellent place to stay. The village is picturesque. The service was excellent and the staff were very friendly. They have complimentary valet parking which was a nice touch.

Great food as we expected from a James Martin restaurant- salt n pepper squid and bread selection for starter then bbq meat platter all of which were delicious 😋 initially no one available to greet us at the grill so we waited a while before someone arrived to seat us and it wasnt that busy but after that it was fine - great surroundings beautiful decorated in sympathy with the architecture of the building and ambiance

Didn't stay there but had a meal in the Grill. Started well with prawn cocktail, followed by pork chop and halibut with Thai curry. Although the halibut was fine, to me the Thai curry was too acidic, which spoilt the meal. My wife had the pork chop with Koffmann chips, not a fan. I just hope they weren't out of a packet. We both have had a similar pork chop dish at the Cornish Arms Tavistock which was better than this one.

Fantastic stay. Such a wonderful warm environment and dog friendly. We stayed 2 nights and it was brilliant. The team are extremely friendly and helpful and the lounge space is big, so lots of nice options to sit with a drink and nibbles. We ate at both the Tavern and Grill. The food is superb! Full of flavour and just delicious. Will definitely be returning for another short break soon!

Amazing hotel, we stayed 2 nights and throughly enjoyed our stay. The food, and the service was just fantastic. The James Martin restaurant was just lovely, the food was so hearty and homely, we throughly enjoyed his menu. The James Martin Rose wine was so lovely and I recommend it if you are a Rose drinker, we drank quite a few bottles during our stay. The location of the hotel is set in beautiful Broadway and it well worth a visit, we will definitely be going back in the new year.

An unbelievably glorious medieval Cotswold hotel built of beautiful local stone in the charming unprecedentedly beautiful village of Broadway nestled at the foot of a large escarpment. The hotel is literally to die for the interior is galleried with large period fireplaces and superb furnishings Visit their website to get a true indication. Fine dining can be enjoyed as well as gardens and all other five star amenities. ,

Lunch at the tavern was very enjoyable. Triple cooked chips were gorgeous £6.00 portion but worth it. Service OK, no table check until our plates were cleared, no offer of a dessert was made by the waiter, they seemed understaffed as I only saw one gentleman serving the bar and waiting tables, unfortunately tables not cleared for sometime after people had vacated. Services charge is added to the bill, but quite honestly no service was given other than bringing our food and clearing our table, for this reason I removed the 12.5 % Service charge from the bill.

A decent one night stop over in Cotswold. Positives: -Comfy beds with good beside the bed lighting -Good instant coffee in the room -Beautiful gardens and lawn games -Lots to walk around and see Negatives: -Really unfriendly staff, very few smiles from check in and to check out, had to ask for service several times in the bar. -the young tall guy who showed us our room waas lovely as was the gardner and did get one smile at the very end and a "hope you enjoyed your stay" -With a celeb chef, dinner food could have been SO much better. I would definitely eat somewhere else in town - better food and less expensive. -I wake early and to not disturb my husband, went in search of coffee and some quiet alone time. Only staff member I could find barked at me, "You could have ordered room service." This would not be a desired destination in the future but rather a decent place to stay for an event or while on a road trip. Bonus: The lovely couple walking their large dog and their small pony early in the morning :-)

Food was good standard for a hungry horse chain, however the service was shocking.. stood at the bar and two young girls were checking football results instead of serving me.. quite rude, took a ridiculous amount of time for desserts to come out.. I’ve worked for hungry horse they take seconds to take out the fridge and put on a plate.. they let both my daughters in the soft play and THEN after watching my kids go in and start playing proceeded to tell me I had to pay for one child instead of telling me before they let them in… staff were just rude and not very good with hosting.. one lad that did my daughters cake was lovely though can’t fault him he was polite cheerful so thank you for that! We won’t be coming back I was expecting a lot better to be honest.. there was 14 of us so we spent a fair amount there..
