We stayed at the Lower Buck Inn as we were at a family wedding at the near by Browsholme hall. We stayed two nights and had the best time, the staff in particular Ed (the landlord) were so helpful with Ed being a legend of a man, nothing was an issue and couldn’t be more helpful. We wouldn’t hesitate in stopping here again, nice pint and the food was awesome. We will definitely be back when visiting family. Thanks again for your sterling hospitality.

Sunday lunch with the family yesterday. It was fabulous. The staff could not have been any more helpful. They were all lovely. The whole place feels relaxed and welcoming. The food was just delicious and the portions are extremely generous! Having eaten at the other two pubs in the village, I will now be making the Lower Buck my first choice. Thank you for a perfect time.

This has always been a lovely pub in a lovely setting. It lost its way a year or two ago, but it was still great to be able to drop in for a drink. We are delighted that Ed has now taken the helm. His attention to detail and hospitality skills are legendary, honed at The Brown Cow in Chatburn. And he is passing on his knowledge and expertise to the young staff he has obviously carefully selected. Have a drink, TT Landlord I highly recommend, or a bite to eat, the sandwiches are great but they also have a full menu of pub favourites - try the cheese pie. When you see pubs closing down left, right and centre, it's heartening to see the proper service and values being upheld and promoted in this beautiful village. Good luck Ed and team, we are lucky to have you.

Le patron, Ed, is known from other similar hostelries. However, now he is the gaffer. He spent some time making sure the pub was as he wanted, involving some renovations and consequent expenditure. I first entered this "house" in 1987, when I oved with wife and daughter to the valley. It had character then and now has a different ethos. The food then was good and now it is also excellent. The steaks were excellent, my guests told me, the onion rings crisps and succulent. The lamb and mint pie a delight. The chips, and French fries, delicious. Garlic mushrooms..... Vegetable lasagne was my son's choice. Too much, but he had the mushrooms! I told him it was VEG! Bonus: the beer, well the TT Landlord was excellent. Only one dessert taken: the crumble. Very hot on arrival but very eatable.

I have written before about the excellence all round at the Lower Buck, and this was only confirmed when we went there for Sunday lunch. Great menu, lovely roast with super Yorkshire, service first-class and friendly, terrific atmosphere. When so many pubs rely seemingly on gambling machines and music, it is really, really good to find Ed's pub which stresses more traditional values, good beer, good food, good atmosphere. With the help of his wife's reorganisation and re-decorating (brilliant) this is the pub we love to go to.

Just WOW! Can’t tell you how happy we are to have our pub back! Ed and his team have worked wonders at the Lower since taking over last summer. They have breathed new and loving life back into the village pub; it is traditional with log fires in every room, flag floors, wonky walls - everything you would expect from a 300 year old pub - and BRILLIANT service. The team are professional and work to Ed’s high standards… but also personable and warm. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better - they’ve started serving food. And true to form, it’s traditional pub food at its very, very best. You can arrive in your wellies, your ballgown, with dogs… & kids! The craic and atmosphere are amazing! Well done guys - you’ve done yourselves, and the village, proud.

My wife and I phoned an hour before our arrival at lunchtime on Sunday 17th Dec and got a cheery reply to say they would readily accommodate us although they were quite busy. We sat in the front room next to the open fire that our dog Ruby loved after the walk from Clitheroe. We ordered main courses from the table that took around 20 mins to arrive, and both thoroughly enjoyed our venison sausages and fish pie washed down with an excellent pint of Timothy Taylor's and brandy and lemonade x 2. The excellent service encouraged us to have a suite ..it would be rude not to!..sticky toffee pudding and rhubarb crumble with custard which again was delicious. We finished our drinks and paid the bill for just shy of £70.00 and left feeling thoroughly satiated. The staff were all very friendly...Ruby was even given a few boneo treats by the young waitress...so she was pleased too. All in all we had a lovely time and would recommend it to all.

We booked 2 nights, and stayed in one of the 'lodges', just outside the pub. Overall we were very impressed. Despite being the start of January, we had reservations about how warm we would be during the night, but with underfloor heating it sometimes got a little too warm!, so our fears were unfounded. Very clean, and well presented accomodation. The pub itself is warm and inviting, excellent friendly staff and locals, and the owner Olly, was a great host. Above all - excellent evening food! As per other reviews, you have to walk 2 minutes to another pub (Waddington Arms) to get breakfast - but it's well worth it, one of the best 'full English' I've had in many years. Will definately be going back again.

We had a Sunday evening family meal here. The pub is warm and inviting with a log fire and lots of character. The staff are lovely and work hard. Some of our meals were good - the roasts, the rump steak (though very small piece of steak) and the childrens chicken nugget (homemade) meal but the other meals were disappointing. The quiche came out burned and hard but was changed with no issues - however it really shouldn't have left the kitchen in the first place. nobody likes complaining so why put your customers in that situation? The second one was tasy but the pastry was still fairly hard - not short and crispy as it should have been. The piri piri chicken skewers were dry and fairly bland. Service though was very good in difficult circumstances - well done to the young lady who soldiered on - on her own!

Had dinner here on a Sunday evening while on holiday in Clitheroe. First thing that hit us was the noise, it was busy in the bar which seems to be popular with locals and the bar was opposite the dining area where we were seated. It did quieten down though after a while when some people left. There seems to be more than one area to eat in and we were in a small room with an open fire and about 5 tables. The service was quick and efficient and the food was mostly good. We had the piri piri skewers which were hot and tasty and the gammon steak which was good but a bit chewy. There is no car park so parking could be tricky if busy. Would go back for the piri piri but not the noise, could do with a door on the dining room.

We ended up chatting to several people, (visitors & locals) & everyone was just so friendly - it was a great night. Food, just average but more importantly, a special of the day was advertised as mushrooms en croute which was creamed mushrooms on a piece of crusty bread. When queried I was told that was what en croute was! Surely any chef/cook would know the difference. Mains varied in both quantity and quality, no mango chutney to accompany a curry and fish and chips decidedly bland with stodgy mushy peas, no option of garden peas. Also, one of the starters was ‘forgotten’ and as we were only a table of 6 celebrating my birthday in a cold room with 2 others already eating this did not bode well. Overall, good beer, apparently, but will not be returning to dine.

Got up in the morning for a short walk for a coffee in the village and then went to the wedding. was an excellent stay for two nights, also let us check out abit later on the Sunday as there was a few sore heads after the wedding.

Went here for tea when we were staying in the area. Rang up about availability for us and the dogs and the guy on the phone was really friendly. They had reserved us a table and we got a very warm welcome! I had bangers and mash my partner had steak and ale pie and both were really tasty! I had sticky toffee pudding for desert which finished me off nicely. All in all a lovely pub, with friendly staff and tasty food. What else do you need??

Bit of a Tardis...seems small on the outside but cavernous (relatively) on the inside. A gang of us (NB we are all 70+) attended this gaff and we had a tremendous meal and a fantastic time. Ollie and his crew dealt with all that was thrown at them with friendly professionalism. Ollie supported (or it the other way round) by a stellar young lady kept the food and booze going all evening as well as running the bar for the regulars!!! Prestigious or what! The food and booze was great and the atmosphere in the place is what every drinker looks for in a pub.

Called in on Sunday and great to see the fires all lit and such a cosy atmosphere. The beer was good and we were served quickly. Unfortunately the food was a real let down. It arrived 5 mins after ordering and you could tell it had been made in a hurry. Piri piri prawns were rubbery and undercooked. Onion rings just full of really crunchy fatty batter and cheese and onion pie looked so pale. I felt the food had been rushed out without properly being cooked. Maybe it was reheated or done in a microwave. Will stick to drinks only next time.

Love the chargrill steak and the selection of gin. Can’t beat a rhubarb gin and ginger ale! Food portions are great and the kids size is goo as well.

We had an outstanding family meal at this very welcoming establishment. Food and service were absolutely spot on, and there was a good range of ales. Prices were reasonable too. The children’s menu had the usual options although we might have expected a pasta dish. Dogs are well accommodated, and it is where our 12 week old cavapoo made her pub debut! We would highly recommend this place.

This pub seems to meet the requirements of the local community as well as the traveller such as ourselves. It was our 1st visit and yet we felt comfortable and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The quality of the food and ale was exceptional, the staff were wonderful and friendly.

We stayed at the lower buck inn lodge which was absolutely beautiful. Really special touches like the tray continental breakfast etc. We decided to eat and have a few drinks at the inn which is opposite the accommodation. It did not disappoint. Such good, friendly service. AMAZING food - we both had steak and ale pie and the gravy was so so good. As two southerners we can defo agree that the north defo do better gravy, pie and value for money. Will defo be planning another trip back for the future.

Very reasonably priced with great service. It’s not our usual place to eat in the restaurant Ribble valley but it may well be from

Visited on bank holiday Monday. Sat outside at front although there is a large beer garden at rear. Wide range of cask beers & extensive menu that is served all day. Had home made steak & kidney pie with proper cooked chips - large portions, very good quality and very reasonable (£9.50). The whole menu was reasonably priced and I’m told the Hotpot is worth trying. Staff very friendly and all smiling which is a good sign. Dogs welcome throughout the pub but beware if you ask for a bit of food as we got charged £5 for 2 sausages which was not expected...... Overall well worth a visit & next time in the area will pay a visit

We had an excellent meal here, from a table of 8 with four kids. (A table of 8 foodies with two chefs) All 8 main courses were large portions, very tasty and good value for money. Too full for a dessert, but will return for one! A nice menu. There was a nice atmosphere with friendly staff, a nice surprise and a good find of a nice pub serving great food. Excellent value, service and food.

We had a pleasant lunch at The Btown Cow. The dining room was pleasant if a little dark, however its an old building so that's OK. Very pleasant young waiter. The menu is quite big and it's very varied, something for everyone. I had vegetarian Toad In The Hole, excellent , well presented and delicious. Husband chose the open beef sandwich, which unfortunately wasn't as good. The baguette was tough and the steak was "not the best". Our coffee at the end of the meal was really just froth!! However, it was clean and comfortable, a very pleasant young waiter and the loos were spotless.

A great place we stumbled on after the fireworks at the castle. The reedley hallows beer went down very very well. We had a nibbles selection amazing value at 4 small plates for £20. I had lamb rump for main and my wife had ahicken Kiev which she thoroughly enjoyed. No room for a pud, hopefully next time. Very attentive service, great food and reasonably priced. Will defo return very soon.

Walked in after a 4 hour drive today, didn't know the place, never seen it before and just wanted a drink before driving again. The woman at the bar was super unhelpful and scowled at me the whole way through me ordering our drinks, for £16.40 for two pints i would have expected at least friendly service. I get it I was not in suit but does that deserve to be scowled at and made to feel super unwelcome. We finished our drinks and got the hell out of there as quick as we could. Will never return and have already told my wealthier friends and family not to attend this place
