This neighborhood pub is around the corner from where I stay. I frequent this place during football games. Great place to catch the game on a projected screen. The owner is friendly and welcoming , he's a proper hammer! The crowd at times might look intimidating during the games but they are a fun bunch. I suggest catching a West Ham United game here , them irons love their club. Some of them seem like old school firm lads. Hammers at millwall 😀. They also have a pool table, a dart board and a beer garden.

Terug van Centraal Londen kwamen we hier iets drinken. Vlotte bediening weliswaar.

Was sat at a table for 1 0 minutes when someone came up and put a reserved sign on our table. This meant we suddenly only had 1hr 30min for our Sunday lunch. I looked at him (apparently the general manager) and he said "that gives you plenty of time". I've literally never had that happen in any pub or restaurant before. Apart from that unpleasantness, the food itself was awful. It was tasteless and appeared to have been cooked hours if not days before.

This used to be a very nice historic pub. However since the new ownership it has gone downhill significantly. It is now a very rough sports pub and is avoided by most locals it is often dead on even friday nights. The beer range is terrible as is the decor. I’m often in the area performing in or seeing shows, so a group of friends & I decided to explore. It was a weekday afternoon & we decided to have some pub grub before exploring further. This is when we came across the great Lord Nelson. From the outside it was bordering average, but we decided to poke our heads in anyway...well I’ll be damned. The decor that met our eye sights was explosive, vibrant, quirky & wonderful! Multicoloured bunting hung from the ceiling, the pillars were dressed with funky wallpaper, flowers, fairy lights & teddies hung from the top of the bar & framed photos such as Marge Simpson/Mona Lisa were hung on every wall space possible. It is nothing short of brilliant. If you’re Artsy, you MUST go. We were a large group & had to sit on separate tables, however I’m sure if we asked this could’ve been sorted- the staff were very friendly. The term ‘never judge a book by its cover’ comes to mind here- I initially assumed the food would be mediocre for a pub. I was given the menu & my mouth watered. The burgers sounded incredible! I struggled with picking from the burger menu, all sounded fantastic. I decided on the lamb & rosemary burger. When the food arrived, my foodie friends & I nearly fell off of our seats- this is what you call good food! My burger was big, succulent & seasoned beautifully. I haven’t had a better burger since. The Lord Nelson has been a firm favourite of mine ever since. If you’re in the area, I implore you to dine here! Or at least, have a drink & take in the burst of colour that is the decor!

The choice of beers is pretty poor, nothing that I couldn't find anywhere else. The only promising one was Tetley's dark mild, so I chose that one. It was... more like vinegar than anything else. From former experience I knew it was not the fault of the beer itself. The staff however didn't believe it was not what it should have been. Food arrived without cutlery/sauces/napkins, so I had to collect all the accessories from "random" points of the pub. The food is quite bearable for the price I must add. When I asked if they had accepted AmEx the bar tender just pointed to the door saying I shouldn't have asked, it was indicated there they do. Then the card didn't work for multiple tries. Could be a problem with the card. ;) And on top of everything, a karaoke night was ongoing (on a Friday evening) at an impressive volume and with terrible performers.

We had all the condiments you could ever want delivered to the table by the very capable person who also serves at the bar.As a bonus, the music over the speakers was exactly what we would have requested.Overall, together with the well kept beer, a must go to pub.

There are several 'regulars' who give the place character and contribute to the feeling of community. This is a local pub for . . . local people - and any one else who wishes to drop in and enjoy all that is on offer.Food is excellent and reasonably priced, fair value for the choice and high quality that is provided (available lunch and evening, except Sunday eve). The choice of drinks is wide and the prices are no way 'rip-off' London ones at the level paid 'up west' in most places.Transport links are good. Parking nearby, if drive you must, or the DLR is near at Island Gardens, buses D7, 135 and D3 pass the place and stop close to.Go once and you'll probably go a second time . . . and more.
