Booked a table online and had confirmation but when we got there on Friday evening, pub was closed, with no lights on and no signs that it had been open for quite a while.

Visited as a group of 4 on Sunday 6th November 2022 having prebooked a table. All 4 had Sunday roast , 2 had beef and 2 lamb/beef combo. Meals were great with plenty of tasty meat and vegetables along with large yorkshires. Ordered extra roast potatoes but didn't need them such was the amount on the plates. An extra of cauliflower cheese would be a good addition to the menu. Drinks were Leake ales and we tried the Mangolicious ale which was a decent drink. Overall good value and we will definitely return soon.

Pre pandemic one of my favourite any time day or night great food great atmosphere. Today shocking Terrible attitude of bar person, wanted to eat 1.50pm but closing kitchen. Food out on one table looks terrible Won’t be back. Toilet dirty no soap. Place looks rundown

Slightly mixed review for the Clifden, we googled somewhere to watch the football before doing our escape room and we chose here, we arrived at 12.20 to get an early seat but the venue was closed despite saying it was open from midday, we started to see if anywhere else was nearby until my brother saw they were open the night before so they couldn’t of shut down, gave them a call and they said they would be open in about 10mins, so we waited and went in, really nice little pub, we didn’t go out into the beer garden area, but that looked really cool, the drinks were good but pretty pricey, the menu seemed to just be roasts so half our party didn’t bother eating, I did and it was really good, quite pricey at £14 for it, but hats off to the chef, was nice, would of been nice to have the commentary on the sport but the vibe was quite nice in there, just probably shouldn’t advertise being big on live sport if there’s no sound for the opening matches of the new season, the staff were friendly and quick, but in the 6hours we were there, not much of a smile or interaction with our group, all in all though nice place

Visited this bar many times over the years, enjoyed a choice of hand pumped ales and beers, but it has been 'reburbished' and the only draughts available now are various keg beers and lagers. I left and found a great choice of beers in The Jewellers Arms! I will not return.

Well what can I say … what an awesome pub this is! … came here with some friends for some drinks this weekend and we were not disappointed … great music, great atmosphere and the food and drinks were divine! … we will definitely be back!

Visited The Clifden with a friend for food and drinks we were greeted with excellent customer service the manager Joey is very pleasant and welcoming he’s a great asset to the place, the food is excellent I decided to go for the pork belly with mash great choice full compliments to the chef, my friend went for the burger which was also very good it’s great value for money. The Clifden is a great place for food and drink and a great atmosphere I will definitely be returning.

Don't be fooled by the outside of the Clifden, or the slightly sketchy surroundings. This is one of the best pub Sunday lunches you are ever going to have. Had a weekend in Brum culminating in lunch here and have to say it was absolutely brilliant. Fantastic atmosphere, brilliant food, friendly people, and cracking beers too. Very much recommended.

Came in for the Tuesday quiz and for some food and can’t rate this place higher! 2 for 1 mains for February, me and my partner had the pork belly and the burger which both tasted delicious and presented beautifully. The staff were super friendly adding a good atmosphere for the quiz. speaking of the quiz, was very fun with an amazing atmosphere. Couldn’t rate this place highly enough

Went here for a couple of pints in the evening. Lovely garden with heat lamps and fairy lights. Staff were very chatty and kind, will definitely come back when in the area :)

Booked a table online a week before. Got a booking confirmation straight away and a reminder the day before and when we got there they were closed. How difficult is it to have a booking system that works?!! Or notice the error and call me?? I messaged them on Facebook and they said they the member of staff meant to be on in the morning had tested positive which is fair enough but there’s no reason why they couldn’t email me or call me to let me know about the cancellation. After this message where they replied very rudely they then blocked me. This is not how you run a business. Customer service is key!

This used to be a warm, cosy, quirky, pub, with great food, not now though. Been bought out by people who’ve ruined it. No comfy seats, cold, like a barn, in fact, with the interior door in the corridor from the street having been completely removed creating a through draft like a scene from Ice Station Zebra! Beer at nearly £5 a pint, looks dirty too. The toilets here used to be amazing, modern, clean, warm and downstairs. Not now, been moved up a steep set of stairs entered by the same door which gives entry to the kitchen, bizarre. Toilets are now poor, dirty, with a hand blower that doesn’t work and no alternative paper towels. On the staff side we were served by a large, gruff, rude, bloke, who I think was the manager, great example to the rest of the team there, we’ll done you! Have been drinking and eating here for years but haven’t been in for a couple of years, won’t be going again. A lesson in how to ruin a business in a couple of steps.

Our party of 4 decided to eat at the Clifden ahead of the Heritage Walking Tour of the Birmingham Catacombs (also recommended) and we're so glad we did. From the outside, it looks quite a small establishment so the tardis-like interior was a pleasant surprise. What do you need to know? The Sunday Roast was absolutely superb (no room for a pudding) there was a good range of beers available, the staff were welcoming and friendly and the whole experience was excellent value for money. If this pub was anywhere close to where I live, I'd use it as a local.

Really disappointed with the Clifden. My friend and I used to come here often but it's gone downhill. The tables were sticky and dirty with flies and midges everywhere even though we were sitting inside - we had to ask one of the staff to clean our table. The women's toilets didn't have any handwash. The food was substandard and lacked the quality that was once present. The music isn't as good either. We won't be returning.

Visited here for the Thursday Quiz night and food. Never been here before and went off reviews and pleased I did as when I found the pub I would probably have carried on driving as the area isn’t the best but inside you felt in a different world - nice people working and inside the pub, clean , food was quick and tasty for the price. The place was very quiet until before the quiz when it filled up. Good to do the quiz via a kindle and it was only £3 each to enter. We enjoyed the event , quiz host and atmosphere ,we will return someday. Worth a visit.

Visited for the first time with friends. I found there was a poor choice of beer, and the food menu was poor. Also very expensive for a middle of the road pub. Don't think I will visit again.

Went for drinks with friends, 2 friends left while i waited to be picked up by my brother! Someone randomly said to a bouncer while pointing at me that i had “Carona” bouncer pulled me outside into the doorway and said we had a complaint that you have spiked somebody! I was shocked so asked to see manager! The “Supposedly” manager turned up fast! He was rude! I asked who had made this complaint and he said he couldn’t tell me! So he said we can go up stairs and search you or do it here! I refused to go anywhere and said you can search me here! When he then just said you will have to leave then! He put his hands on me, i resisted then he just left, one of his “bigger” possy moved me out of the doorway, not really aggressively! So if they had actually thought i had spiked someone i think they would have been abit more aggressive about it! Rude staff! Kicking me me out basically because somebody has made a joke! Only writing this out of principle! Feel insulted

What goes through the minds of people with money? I know what will get the punters in. Take a pub that people loved and make it look like a lunatic asylum with all the charm and style of a airport luggage collection room. Rude and disinterested staff and a menu that has been battered into submission. This used to be a top pub. Like their sister pub in the JQ, it's been killed by the new owners.

New staff are rude, slow and useless, food came out cold and waited over an hour, staff didn't seem bothered and just wanted us out asap, wont bother coming again really disappointed with the new refurb

A regular eating place over the years which has had a 'refurbishment' Its no longer a 'LORD'We were looking forward to the Lashford Sausages but when they arrived they were pale and quite tasteless - maybe straight out of the Microwave. The mashed potato was also tasteless. A few new beers displayed but little section on tap.Its a learning curve going back to old haunts and this one was the biggest disappointent weve experienced. We will not be returning.

First time was happy with the food and the menu selection good choice of drinks aswell and was happy with service would return again

Solía ir a este lugar con regularidad y me encantó la comida, la vibra que la sidra de cachorrito de slush fue esta noche, era un menú muy tranquilo y diferente, sin sidra de slushy, la hamburguesa de pollo a la jerga no sabía ni un poco de condimento, solo era un montón de pan rallado en un no hay baños de pollo cerrados, ahora tienes que volver a subir las escaleras a través de un rellano para ser recibido con una habitación verde neón y azul brillante, era como una casa de horrores tan decepcionada

Got here for about 8:30ish on Saturday night and no problem getting served. We both went for cod bites for starters, very tasty with plenty of nice salad. I had the special beef and Guinness casserole with mash and veg and my mate had belly pork. Both were gorgeous and you was served plenty. With a couple of pints it was just short of £50. Good atmosphere and amazing music being played outside. Definitely would recommend. Ended up staying 3 hours longer than planned because of the fantastic music the 2 DJ's were playing, all in all a top night.

After visiting the church inn just a 1 minute walk away in august, we decided to try the clifden, there was 5 of us and the atmosphere we encountered was brilliant, I cant stress how great this pub is to spend an hour or two in with friends or family, we will be coming back to visit regularly and would urge anyone considering the church to go to the clifden instead. The food was well cooked, drinks served in clean and clear glasses and staff were welcoming. This pub will make waves and it is my recommendation on great hampton lane

Really wasn’t sure what to expect when we booked the bottomless brunch with a ‘Greatest Showman’ theme but we weren’t disappointed! The compare was dressed as the ringmaster and belted out most of the theme music perfectly whilst his assistant did the splits in the bar! The games were hilarious. Food was good and they certainly weren’t stingy with the Prosecco! They have a few different themes lined up and currently planning our next one! Best day out in ages!

Arrived for some food and a few drinks, table wasn't clean. I had a burger and chips which was very greasy and tasteless, partner had chilli con carne, which was bland and had no taste. Would not reccomend

Having lived in the jewellery quarter for 6 six years, this pub used to be top of the recommendation list to anyone visiting. So having visited a few times in the last couple of months, it’s so sad to see how much it has changed since the takeover by a chain. What used to be a well run, friendly and cosy pub, now feels cold, poorly organised and uninviting. Whilst the food menu has sadly been significantly reduced its also now printed out on bog standard printer paper. The food itself also doesn’t seem to be anywhere near as high a standard. Speaking of bogs, these have been relocated randomly upstairs and painted the most hideous colour. Just why?! The last couple of times we’ve been they have also run out of things such as coffee and tea - requested during a breakfast visit - and most meats for a Sunday roast on another occasion. The staff appear to be inexperienced, just standing around most of the time and are not engaging in the slightest, so no more local banter with the old long standing staff members. Also what happened to the free nachos on quiz night?! It’s just so sad to see such a great local independent pub become so cold and poorly run. I’m scared to go to the Red Lion in case it’s no longer the same too :( Bring back Graham and the team!

What has happened to the Clifton? I have visited & enjoyed the pub on many occasions but on arrival in the front bar on Friday there was no visible information on the beers available. On enquiry I was given the names of 2 bitters neither of which I was familiar with. Whilst a sample was offered I then learnt that it was to be served in a plastic container due to "staff shortage". I did not buy - it would have cost £4.90 a pint.

Came here with the family (5 of us) for an early Sunday lunch. As we were early, this helped as we didn't require a booking. The food was great - Sunday lunch roast lamb, beef and pork belly were excellent and they had some very drinkable interesting craft beers on tap. Ambience of the pub was really good. Staff were really welcoming and friendly. Great craft beers on tap. Good vegetarian options for our daughter. We would definitely come again but also keen to try the Red Lion nearby!

So we came on a Sunday for roast dinner the so called award winning roast and I must say it was appalling the roast potatoes were solid as a rock my 2 friends didn’t even eat there food left a whole plate of food, the swede was lumpy the chicken looks and tasted as if it was reheated in the microwave the only fresh thing on the plate was the gravy I can’t believe we wasted money on this atrocious meal I shall not be returning service and food POOR not even 1 star ruined my Sunday

Took my mum to my place of work followed by dinner at the Lord Clifden in Hockley. The food was really, really good and I especially enjoyed the lemon cheesecake I had after my veggie burger and chips. My mum really liked her haddock and chips and again especially enjoyed the lemon cheesecake. The pub also has a good range of drinks and beers on tap and the only downside is the toilets which are at the top of some steep stairs. These have been recently refurbished and are an improvement on the old ones (experienced from a previous visit) but don't have as yet disabled access toilets but I am sure this is to come! The pub also has an interesting and quirky ( but nice) outdoor area which has some very high benches for people to sit on. It's worth a visit just for the garden but again not entirely accessible for those with mobility issues. The staff in the pub are really friendly and helpful and I would recommend anyone to go there. Parking is an issue but there are some side roads (if you can get a space) going towards the flyover that you don't have to pay for which is always a bonus considering how close it is to Birmingham City centre!

The outside of this venue is deceiving. It appears small as does the inside but the garden area is huge and usually full. This leads to a very loud and lively clientele. Worth a visit.

¡La semana pasada vine a empacar mi cuarto de la universidad por última vez! Le mencioné a mi mamá The Red Lion y le mostré fotos, y ella estaba ansiosa por ir. Llamé y no había mesas hasta las 3 pm, lo cual pensamos que era demasiado tarde, pero pensándolo bien, habría sido ideal para el día anterior y no había mesas antes de las 6 pm - ¡Fui destruido! ! Sin embargo, para mi sorpresa, me encontré con este lugar y vi que era un pub asociado y ¡estaba encantado! El pub es grande y las diferentes habitaciones lo hacen realmente encantador y diferente, pero de una buena manera, ¡es casi como abrir diferentes puertas y encontrar algo nuevo cada vez! Esta cena asada una vez más no decepcionó. Fue incluso mejor que el que tuve en The Red Lion, que ya era un 10/10 y era difícil de superar. Ambos tuvimos el combo de carne y cordero y fue divino. Grandes porciones de cordero y ternera. El cordero se derritió en tu boca y la carne estaba deliciosa. El pudín de Yorkshire fue increíble, al igual que las patatas asadas y salsa era sabrosa y deliciosa! Por lo general, desprecio el puré de papas, pero me comí cada pedacito de esto ya que era muy sabroso. No soy un fanático de las verduras, pero a mi madre le encantó todo y, en general, ambos estuvimos de acuerdo en que este asado estaba en una liga diferente a la de los demás, es mejor que cualquier otro asado que haya comido antes.

Temprano (ish) el viernes por la noche y el jardín estaba ocupado, el DJ tenía el lugar animado. Ordenó 2 hamburguesas se le dijo un tiempo de espera de 1 hora. De hecho, llegó en 30 minutos, pero solo 1 hamburguesa, afortunadamente, ¡ya que eran enormes! Nunca hubiéramos comido 1 cada uno! Buenas noches y buen precio.

Mi mejor amigo me recogió del trabajo y le sugerí que cenara y le dije al señor Clifton. La comida, como siempre, fue increíble en general, mis verduras estaban un poco frías y las ollas de asado habían sido retenidas o recalentadas, pero una pizca de cerdo asada perfectamente asada en una cena asada eliminó esos pequeños problemas, mi mejor amigo tenía carne y pollo. Eso era fresco y hermoso también.

went to the clifden with my two kids for sunday lunch - i used to eat here regularly but won't be going back again as standards have dropped significantly. its still the funky place it always was but i would go for the evening atmosphere and not the food.

After praising this great pub and it’s food over many a moon, i was so disappointed yesterday with the Lord Clifton. I’ve had a Sunday lunch here many times and found the people,pub and food excellent but to my AMAZEMENT this Sunday’s visit ,I was told that I was unable to bring in my newly born granddaughter. ( who was asleep). The reason was that no child changing facility is available in this pub. In today’s enlighten environment......no changing facility... that must be going back to the dark ages for pubs. It was the first time I have experienced this backward attitude....So to all readers it means that until your children are of an age to go to the toilet this pub Is definitely OUT OF BOUNDS and that will include me.... went to the Bell In Harborne ( 15/16th century ) pub and they have got facilities...

After bringing some family members here for some of the fine food whilst enjoying the sun, we were told that the only food available was off the roast dinner menu. In the heat, a roast dinner was absolutely not what we wanted. Unfortunately the chef didn’t agree, so a single drink was all we had before we left to find somewhere else to wine the sunny afternoon away with some picky food.

1. Absolutely disgusting - the fact my friend felt obliged to leave this pub due to rude bar staff is shocking.

Visited for first time today and was blown away with the quality and amount of the Sunday lunch. All freshly cooked . Will be back again to try something else from menu . Friendly staff .

We visited this pub having read about it on a number of websites. It’s not in the nicest part of Birmingham, but don’t let that put you off. It is a very traditional, old fashioned pub, with a great atmosphere. The two girls who were working behind the bar were fantastic and made us feel very welcome. The food was very good, as was the beer. I can thoroughly recommend the faggots. I would definitely visit again. A top pub.

Yesterday morning my wife and I with our eldest son in tow went to the Lord Clifden Public House for breakfast and we were not disappointed!! A full English breakfast for both my wife and I and a Steak breakfast for my son and each meal was cooked to perfection! Definitely compliments to the Chef! The staff were welcoming, attentive and were a credit to their establishment. We have no hesitation in heartily recommending the Lord Clifden to the rest of the World!

Gran pub, música en el área exterior cubierta hasta tarde; Principalmente muchachos en el pub, pero todos de buen carácter, sin ningún problema. La comida era increíble! ! Tres platos, un montón de comida, no me puedo quejar de nada. Cada comida ordenada era perfecta y el personal era amable y servicial. Volvería a comer aquí de nuevo, sin duda.

I really splurge on Sundays for Brunch, off the diet, and onto eating whatever I like, and I generally like to go to the Lord as the food is so brilliant and I dont feel like I wasted the cheat meal. The classic eggs, steak, and beans really do it for me, but the salmon egg benedict is just as good, and the nacho stack with cheese and meat is wild.

El sábado a la hora del almuerzo estaba ocupado y tuvimos que esperar una mesa decente en el salón, ya que estaba muy ocupado. No sería un problema en verano, ya que hay un enorme jardín de cerveza en la parte de atrás (¡con futbolín y tenis de mesa, no menos!).

Vivo en Londres y estaba de visita en Birmingham, la próxima vez que lo visite, ¡sin duda volveré a este pub! Me encantó el ambiente, el servicio al cliente y el mejor asado que he comido. Buena selección en el menú, calidad, cantidad y precio 10/10.

First time visit today on friends recommendation. There’s a varied menu with different sized Sunday roasts to choose from. We chose the small Sunday lunches of roast chicken fillet and the lamb/beef combo. These are great sized portions bring served with fresh vegetables, huge delicious Yorkshire pudding, mash and roast potatoes. Gravy was very tasty. The service was well friendly and we didn’t wait long for food to arrive.

Just been with the family and had an amazing Sunday dinner . We just wanted a no fuss Sunday dinner that’s what we got . Massive portions, excellent quality food and value for money . The staff gave excellent friendly service and we would definitely go again .

Visited for family Sunday Lunch. Good choices on menu and reasonable price with massive servings. Veg not quite up to standard tho - I like mine al dente but the carrots were definitely crunchy and roast potatoes nothing t write home about.

Decent pub in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter. It’s probably a fifteen to twenty minute walk from the city centre or a five minute walk from the Metro (tram) station that can be caught at a handful of venues centrally including outside New St station.

Nine off were served quickly and in a friendly way. All drinks spot on including the real ale and various gins tried also.

Called in here for a Saturday lunchtime pint and sat in the quirky beer garden with it's 6 big screen televisions. As i said we only had time for a quick pint but there was a great choice of ales and ciders and the food that we saw coming out looked amazing so much so that we have vowed to return to sample it for ourselves.

Out for a quick lunch, had a pint in the back garden to start with. Only downside was the plastic cups when everyone around us were drinking from proper glasses.

I have been here many times this summer. It has a great beer garden, great atmosphere and fantastic food

We visited here during lunch time. Traditional style pub. Friendly staff and good, fast service. Ordered vegetarian chilli with rice, which was lovely. Toasties and sandwiches are good sizes too. Overall a nice afternoon!!

Good atmospheric venue with good beer marred by large numbers of smokers including in the substantially enclosed area.

This was a new place for our crowd to visit. Looks small from the outside but expands in to a large bar and then a large garden/patio area. TV screens everywhere, and lots of quirky signs and memorabillia on the walls outside. Even a table tennis table! I gather it also sells food although we did not indulge. Good range of beers. Came on a Saturday afternoon so it was quite busy probably with some some football fans

First early Sunday visit for a while but the full English breakfast as good as ever. Friendly staff too. Recommended.

For a lunchtime pint it wasn't too bad. It wasn't brilliant either. Nice touch with the table tennis and table football in the garden though.

Have visited this place a few times and enjoyed it so decided to return for England's final match again Belgium. We managed to get a seat inside but was frustrated that the volume on the TV wasn't on and that they were playing music instead. We wanted to order food so did this at the bar, was told that there was an hour wait which was fine (Personally I feel like this was said in a way to put us off and cancel our order). Strangely enough, ten minutes later, food arrived! Magic I wonder....

I had a Sunday roast here yesterday. A waitress came over to us and politely informed us that there was a problem in the kitchen and might be a slight delay. Despite the fact that we had ordered separately and the apparent delay the food arrived promptly and was beautiful. I went for the veggie option whilst my friends went for chicken, there is a huge choice for roast dinners! Everyone enjoyed their dish, the veggies were fresh and the mashed potato was divine. Great service, your waitress handled the incident really well so congrats to her!

Spent the evening watching the football. What a fantastic venue. Great food and some really nice beers. Fantastic atmosphere tonight while watching the game on the outdoor TVs, this place has a beer garden to die for.

My boyfriend plays football for this pub and we've been here several times for food and loved it but the moment I give birth were not allowed in. Not even in the beer garden! Absolutely disgusting that we have now got to walk in ridiculous heat to find somewhere we can take our child! You serve good which makes you family friendly? Why does a child over 10 get to go in but a 2 week old isn't allowed? Fuming to say the least and will NEVER visit again. And to think a couple of weeks ago I had my baby shower at the sister pub. Your a joke and I will make it known!

I visited the lord clifden today for a meal with friends. When we arrived we ordered 2 Sunday roasts and 2 sombrero burgers. The food arrived after 40 minutes, the first to come were the burgers. 5 minutes later the Sunday roasts arrived. The chicken burgers were dry and they were left unfinished. The Sunday roast had what seemed to be microwave mashed potato, and an overly cooked Yorkshire pudding that resembled the texture of a ryvita. Our plates were left over half full and the members of staff kept walking back and forth without asking once if everything was okay with the food. It was only when we stood up and left that they decided to approach the table to clean it. Terrible service and terrible food, I will not be visiting again. £29 for 2 meals that were not even worth eating.

I have visited the Lord Clifden on many occasions. For dinner and drinks with friends, breakfast with my partner to night outs as a group. Never had a bad experience. Staff are chilled and friendly. Food is always amazing and freshly made. Beer garden is an added bonus of this place, will be sure to keep visiting throughout the summer.

He estado aquí tres veces para bebidas y hemos disfrutado cada vez. Se llena en un fin de semana pero con bares dentro y fuera no tienes que esperar mucho tiempo para una copa. Hay un gran jardín de la cerveza que es genial para ver deportes ya que hay un gran número de pantallas de televisión, que más recientemente vimos una pelea de boxeo la noche del sábado y la atmósfera. El personal es amable y muy trabajadora, y nunca ha habido ningún problema o problemas con la tenían porteros. El único aspecto negativo fue el precio de las bebidas son demasiado altos y no hay ofertas de bebidas. Me alegraría de que volveremos al Señor Clifden de nuevo.

We liked this pub, particularly the outside seating area, complete with table tennis table. The drinks were reasonably priced, the service was friendly. Also, it is only a five-minute walk from the Jewellery Quarter metro stop.

Cuando nos explicó que nos ha venido para la comida nos dijeron que el £5 entrada por cabeza. Obviamente fui a otro lugar para comer, ya que un resultado.
