The Londesborough in Hackney

This is my local pub and it was our first choice for a Sunday Roast when lockdown restrictions eased and we could eat inside.We booked a table for 7pm....they were busy earlier and we eat late but this was a mistake. The Covid-19 precautions in the pub were poor. Tables were too close and staff with masks around their chins reluctantly dragged a moist cloth over tables between diners.The food would probably have been fabulous at 1pm but at 7pm it was awful. The potatoes were over cooked and tasted warmed up. We had this issue at the pub several years ago and we complained and the owner invited us back for a free lunch. We weren't looking for a free lunch .. we wanted a good roast and to support out local pub. So we asked for fresh roast potatoes. They arrived with an apology but they were still luke warm, overcooked and stale. My beef was cold and chewy. The gravy was black and burnt. The stir fried vegetables were fantastic until you hit some raw ones!!We complained. We were offered coffee which we declined. The waitress then said that we had been there before and complained!! Yes we are locals. We complained about the same issue 3 years ago...we were given a free meal and we returned regularly!! The stand in manager was reluctant to not charge me for my meal claiming I has ate most of it !! I ate one of the 3 slices of beef. Half a potato and half a Yorkshire. Some randomly cooked veggies.We crept out of out local never to return!!A meal should be as good at 7pm as it is at 1pm.. or don't serve it

I went to The LONDESBOROUGH with my dog few days ago. The atmosphere there is great and the food is delicious. I will definitely go back !

Viajamos desde Worcestershire para encontrarnos con nuestro hijo por su cumpleaños y le apetecía un almuerzo dominical en algún lugar cercano a donde vivía y elegimos Londesborough basándonos en sus críticas. Honestamente puedo decir que fue uno de los mejores asados de domingo que he tenido. ¿Desde hacer la reserva hasta salir de sus puertas, el personal y el gerente / propietario? fueron absolutamente fantásticos y nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos. Decidimos reservar nuestra recepción aquí porque pensamos que la comida era increíble y el pub se veía genial, contemporáneo y acogedor.Para empezar, Amber fue de gran ayuda a la hora de planificar la recepción. We had our wedding here a few weeks ago. Couldn't speak highly enough of the Londesborough for both the day itself and the ease of the process generally over the course of the past few months.Really lovely relaxed laid-back unpretentious venue that looked wonderful on the day and was a great space for 90 or so guests. The staff put up all of our decorations and it's clearly a very smooth operation in terms of how things run throughout the day. Staff were lovely and the food was plentiful and delicious (the lamb in particular came in for a lot of praise). A particular benefit we loved was being able to offer guests the choice of 3 starters and 3 mains. We hired DJ Lee (aka Catfight) for the evening and he kept the dancefloor full all night with some great tunes.Aside from the day itself, the whole organisational process with Amber over the preceding few months was really easy and no stress. A particular thing worth highlighting was that the pricing was really transparent and there were no nasty surprises or areas where we felt the venue was taking the mickey. The overall cost ended up being almost bang on what we thought it would be to start with, so there was never a feeling that costs were going out of control. Double thumbs-up from my wife and I.

We had our wedding here in September 2019 and it couldn't have been better organised by the Londesborough. The staff were amazing and the food was delicious. Couldn't recommend them enough!

Every time I visit I am put off by the manager. He is not friendly and service is just ok. Food is good but not great. Best pub in Stokey is the Axe.

Visited here for my son's wedding last Saturday. Such an enjoyable event at this great corner pub. The staff and management contributed greatly through excellent friendly service and the best organisation. Would thoroughly recommend for a wedding venue or just for a few pints and the excellent food served. I hope everyone visiting here particularly for a wedding will have just as great a day as we did. Mi esposa y yo tuvimos una excelente boda en The Londesborough el pasado fin de semana. Desde la primera vez que vi el lugar exactamente hace un año con el organizador Amber, la correspondencia fue fluida, atenta y todas nuestras solicitudes especiales fueron recibidas con entusiasmo.En el día, todo estaba configurado exactamente como lo habíamos solicitado y el pub se veía hermoso cuando llegaron los invitados. Un lugar maravilloso para una boda muy especial. Mi hijo y mi nuera contrataron el lugar para una boda muy íntima. Nada era demasiado problema para el personal, la comida, el servicio, el servicio de bar, los camareros estaban disponibles y listos para ayudar de cualquier manera. I can't speak too highly of The Londesborough, where my daughter and son in law had their wedding reception for about 60 guests. Food and drink much praised, friendly and professional staff, great buzz and charming small garden, with first class staff making the evening run smoothly. Our exclusive place for the evening. Just a good place to be, everyone feeling at home. I would love another party here!

I hired the Londesborough for my 50th birthday. We had been there for Sunday lunch and I loved the venue and decided it would be perfect for my birthday. I had an amazing day and would recommend it to everyone. Right from the beginning in October when we met Amber and Patrick to plan the day, it as an excellent service. Their attention to detail was fantastic and as I was travelling so much, I left Amber to design the layout and decorations. When we arrived on the day, the place looked fantastic. We had 85 guests for lunch and everyone commented on how fantastic the food and service was. We had a live band and its a great venue for dancing with the outside space looking beautiful with all the flowers and plants. Everyone had a fantastic time and I would highly recommend hiring the Londesborough. Great venue and amazing staff. Also, compared to other venues, I think it was real value for money with the drinks not over priced.

We had our wedding at the Londesborough in July 2019 and could not recommend it more. Amber and the whole team were incredibly helpful, accommodating and organised. They made the whole process so easy and took a load of the stress off us, which meant we were able to just relax and enjoy it. On the day itself everything ran perfectly, the venue looked amazing and the food was exceptional - so many of our friends commented on how delicious their meal was. Also, if you’re planning your wedding there, make sure you book Lee/DJ catfight - best wedding DJ ever!! He really made the party take off and kept people on the dance-floor all night!

We celebrated our wedding in the Londesborough in June and it surpassed all expectations. From start to finish it was a seamless process. The staff were super friendly and efficient. The food was melt in the mouth, really high quality and cooked to order, our guests are still raving about it one month later. It was a really chilled out vibe and was exclusively for our family and friends, so had an intimate feel. The roses in the little garden area were in bloom and the decor inside is quirky and eye-catching. I cannot recommend this venue enough. Thank you to Amber, Gregory, Patrick and Team.

Our 25th celebration at the Londesborough was so special I will never forget it. The amazing team work incredibly hard to ensure everyone has the best time. The Londesborough is a hidden gem of a place in the middle of Stoke Newington. We first came across it when my step daughter chose it for her wedding 4 years ago. All our guests were raving about it. The venue is perfect for a celebration, with a dining area that becomes a dance floor after the meal, a large bar area and an outside garden. The food and drink are excellent. I cannot recommend them highly enough and would not hesitate to use them again for our next celebration.

We are so pleased we made the decision to have our May wedding reception at The Londesborough. We found the whole process from planning through to the actual event well-managed and stress free. On the night, everything was executed perfectly - the staff were friendly and efficient, there when we needed them but not in our faces, the food and drink was delicious and perfectly timed in its delivery. The venue itself looked fantastic and was the perfect space for people to eat, drink and eventually dance! In all, we felt really well looked after. Attended a friend's Wedding Reception of Saturday after a civil ceremony at Stoke Newington Town Hall. We agree that this was the best wedding 'breakfast' we have ever attended at a pub. The staff were unobtrusive, the tables were comfortable and food fantastic with plenty of choice. Serving between courses was measured and the whole event well managed. Wish it has been around when we married over 50 years ago.

We held our wedding at The Londesborough on 26th October and it couldn’t have been better. The moment we met Amber the wedding planner and the rest of the team we knew we were in safe hands. Amber answered our many questions and put our minds at ease.

Great service and a very relaxed atmosphere. I liked the fact that there was a lot of natural light in pub. I could see what I was eating! Food.. I had pork... very tasty and lots of it, good selection of vegetables and nice to have loads of gravy. Bit pricey though for a roast but you get a good plateful. Next time will try the veg option as it looked well nice.

The best pub roast I’ve had in ages! The vegetarian wellington was delicious and the pork belly was apparently great too. Service and staff also superb.

We held our wedding reception here on 13th October 2018. From start to finish we were really impressed with the entire team at The Londesborough and how they did all they could to ensure our wedding reception was as special as possible and went ahead without any hitches. Amber (wedding planner) was fantastic thoughout the whole planning process and was always happy answer my (many) questions.

We had our wonderful wedding here at the end of September - and The Londesborough made it an unforgettable, incredible experience in every way. We chose the venue because we wanted somewhere warm and laidback, somewhere that offered excellent food, and somewhere that we knew would make the planning process easy for us. Wedding planner extraordinaire Amber kept on top of everything ahead of the big day, and was endlessly calm and efficient dealing with all our enquiries. On the day, Greg, Patrick and the team were brilliant - blending in with our guests and making sure that everything went to plan. The food was fantastic - we had so many compliments from our guests about the food - the pub looked beautiful, the drinks were flowing, and everyone (especially my new husband and I) had an incredible time. I can’t recommend the Londesborough highly enough for a London wedding.

A number of people recommended this pub, and if saw it also rated highly on TA. So my wife and I walked over one evening to try it out. On a weekday, it was pretty quiet. The main room has big windows and it's a nice open/airy space. There's a garden patio on the south side but it was cold/dark and I didn't check that out.

We used the Londesborough for our wedding reception in August 2018. Every aspect of arranging and planning the day was amazing - they really know what they're doing - and struck the perfect of tolerating our whims/indecisions and leading us through the process based on their experiences.

Our first time in Stoke Newington for a friends wedding,the reception being at the Londesborough.A few minutes walk from te Town Hall down a pleasant street,a lovely welcome by all the staff.Beautiful courtyard garden & no smoking.With the fizz lovely canapes although no veggie the kind staff came back quickly with a veggie version.The food was really excellent for such a large gathering,very good wine list & 3 interesting cask ales.The pub was closed for only the wedding reception,but it looks a wonderful place a a pub,wish there was something similar in Manchester,couldn't fault it!

What a wonderful place! Delicious food, amazing staff and lovely atmosphere in this traditionally themed pub with garden. Everything was faultless and we all had a wonderful time. I’d certainly go back for a meal and thoroughly recommended a visit.

The food is plentiful and tasty. We greatly enjoyed the buzz of the pub and there was even a DJ spinning some great tunes. Very enjoyable.

Wow where do i start! I had my wedding at the londesbourgh 5th april 2017! I can not thank the team enough for making my day so perfect! From the beginning to the end it was faultless in every way! The way they decorated, set Up, help organise, the food which was fabulous! Nothimg was too much trouble or forgotten! I honestly cant thank u all enough and wud recommend anyone to have a wedding, party or special occasion here! I have also eaten here on a Sunday and the roast is to die for! Xxxz yummy! Went to a great 60th party that took over the whole place. Great food, wide selection of wines and beers and a dance floor was created with a DJ. Loved it.

I have to admit that I first came to the Londesborough, by chance, when I was already a dad - that time our first baby was just a few months old, and since it's always so... conformable.The welcome is always great, the kids and prams issues are completely superfluous once we enter the pub - the waiter helps us positioning our utensils and offers highchairs and drinks on the same go - it´s actually like joining Kids Friendly Heaven. Even the people with no kids looked happy and with big smiles on their faces. Please don't take me wrong and think there are wild kids running and shouting in between tables with gravy moustaches and greasy hands. All families in the pub are very well aware of their kids and control their orbits, even with the waiters coming and going. I guess when you embrace a manner, a situation, everything within just flows.Bloody Maries are the perfect aperitivo while looking a t the menu and settle down with the kids, while smiling and silently partnering with other guests at the neighbouring tables spending their Sunday.After this entree, you can only guess a good homy family lunch, and expectations go accordingly. I can precisely talk about the roast on Sundays - which they're famous for - but can really praise the chicken specially, wonderfully moist, smooth gravy and soft and warm Yorkshire pudding, and the pork belly.The windows on the front part, with the bar, illuminate naturally half of the pub - the inside, lower dinning bigger room has access to a small beer garden and a great tall skylight that that involves the whole scene with a lovely zenithal soft natural light.We leave as we arrived, with all our "luggage" but unnoticed and a single person.

Food is very expensive for small portions. Only one vegetarian option. Took about 20 minutes for a portion of bread to arrive

A most delicious meal. Whole pub take over for private do (wedding) Guests were given a fabulous choice from menu. I was astonished that all guests got the choices and the kitchen handled thus perfectly. Everyone getting exactly what they chose. There was roast lamb and potato stack or I had the vegetarian roast pumpkin salad with creamy goats cheese. Nuts seeds all perfect. Most enjoyable meal and staff were very efficient. Definitely better than pub quality.

Nice venue, staff were very helpful as had group with children for a pre Christmas meal.Good Sunday roast, well presented. Got served in a reasonable time given we had a large party. Roast pork belly was delicious.Bath gem ale was excellent, best pint I've had in a while.

Had the most amazing experience here. Everything was lovely. All the guests remarked on what a fabulous venue it was. Atmosphere was really good and upbeat. Gave a real London feel to the day. The food was the tops but already knew it would be as tried it out one evening before the Wedding. Made a joyous day even more special

I've been here so many times, I've lost count. And I keep coming back for the roast because it is consistently good. What makes it for me is the gravy, I love it, and every time I visit I try to figure out the flavours so I can make mine taste similar. The staff are really friendly, you get table service, and tbh as long as you are not a huge group, it's one of the few places I can stroll into on a lazy Sunday afternoon and have a really well flavoured roast. Problem with other roasts are they are never seasoned as well as home made roasts, but the Londesborough is an exception to that. Another reviewer commented on the lack of crafts beer, maybe it's a good thing this place chooses to stay honest to what it is instead of following the trend. I'm starting to dislike how every new establishment in trendy parts of north/east London look the same.

We were a group of five and went to The Londesborough for Sunday Roast. Three of us had the vegetarian roast while the other two had roast lamb and roast beef. The servings are huge! Only one of us managed to clear our plates (not through lack of trying). I would have liked the option of being able to order a smaller portion. The food was well prepared and presented and everyone enjoyed their meal. After a bit if a breather we were able to share a couple of desserts.The surroundings were pleasant and the staff attentive without being pushy. We will be back.

My best friend held her reception at The Londesborough in August 2016. From start to finish, the staff were incredibly helpful and polite. The place was decorated beautifully and the day ran so smoothly. The team were happy for a couple of us bridesmaids to pop by before the ceremony to check everything was on track. I couldn't fault the team or the venue. My friend's wedding was an unforgettable day and The Londesborough team played a huge part in making it such a success. Thanks guys! Hannah

We held our wedding party here on Friday 19th August and we are so pleased we picked the Londesborough for our special day. Amber was so helpful and patient in the lead up the wedding with all my questions and queries and Anthony and his wonderful team on the day did everything they possibly could to ensure the day ran smoothly. They set up all the decorations, provided friendly and efficient bar service, served the most incredible food I have ever eaten at a wedding and cleared everything up for us the next day. Anyone looking to hold their wedding in London should seriously consider this pub for their reception. I wouldn't change a thing. Thanks to everyone at the lovely Londesborough! :)

Although Rob thanked the Londesborough in his wedding reception speech I thought I'd add my brief comments as a guest. The organisation of the event was fantastic - a combination of Rob and the Londesborough team's efforts I guess - but what really stood out were the friendliness, attentiveness and helpfulness of the team at all times.Also - the food was excellent and it was such a nice surprise to have a choice! Really well done!

We celebrated our wedding at The Londesborough last week and we can’t even begin to convey what an amazing day we had! Amber and Team were on hand throughout the planning process, set everything up for us on the day, and had the whole day running smoothly from start to finish. The Londesborough is a really nice neighbourhood local. Friendly staff, welcoming setting, and a lovely back garden on sunny days. The food is fine (the roasts on Sundays are quite good) and there's a good offering of wines and beers, though it hasn't yet embraced the London craft brewery scene in the way that other pubs in the area have.

My daughter's wedding reception was amazing, the room looked stunning, the food was high quality and piping hot despite the numbers.The staff were friendly, accommodating and tireless, I am in awe of their energy and total commitment to making it the most special of days.

Always friendly, always busy enough without being crowded, good food, wine and beer. Highly recommended ... Although weddings take over during the weekend.

I had heard good things about the Sunday roast here and it was great not to be disappointed. The Roast beef was fantastic. Excellent portion size and very good service.Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area but make sure you book

They welcome children which is great, it's brilliant for families and the sunday roast is the best in London, quality and quantity is superb, not portentous in any way. Because they welcome young children it can be a bit load but that suits us fine. We LOVE this place!

Attended a friend's wedding reception at the Londesborough and it was absolutely perfect. The venue is perfect for a small reception including an outside patio. The large windows let in the light for the afternoon reception which made it seem more open and spacious. The food was absolutely delicious, from the asparagus salad to the lamb to the rocket, goats cheese and butternut squash salad to the out of this world cheesecake. Top marks for the staff who are attentive, friendly and served every one of the 90 guests. I highly recommend it!

We visited 5 adults and the small child (well our grandson actually, 20 months!) for Sunday lunch. A table having been booked we arrived mid afternoon to find the place 'buzzing' which did not let up whilst we were there. As the conversations at the tables were 'overflowing' this led to a somewhat "noisy" environment, but seeing as we were more than adding to it certainly did not spoil our visit. Drinks order taken we were left to peruse the menu. This is strictly a "Sunday Roast" menu with a good choice of starters and sharing platters along with three choice of meats (lamb,chicken & pork loin). For our vegetarian member there was a spinach & mushroom Wellington.Food order taken - 3 different staters to share, along with some olives , mains - 2 lamb, pork,chicken and the veggie choice, we also asked about a children's menu and although I didn't see one or was party to the conversation - small child was served his favourite dish of pasta and tomato sauce............. Our starters were all excellent and having polished off the lot we did not have to wait long for our 'mains' which were generous portions all served piping hot and with a gravy to die for! All plates at the end required minimal 'dish washing' so good was it.All staff were friendly, pleasant and attentive especially the two girls who dealt with us. I understand Mon - Sat there is a different menu. The Londesborough is a hidden gem and certainly one to hunt out if in the area. They have their own web site so please have a look for more info. We left very full and very happy and a return visit next we are down that way is certainly on the cards........Recommended.

My daughter got married 2weeks ago and they had their reception at The Londesborough. The pub was absolutely brilliant in every way. The owners Greg and Patrick were so helpful in making everything work for the day and their staff worked tirelessly throughout the day.They set the room up exactly as they were asked, tables set beautifully, drinks all set out when we arrived. Food was delicious and plentiful. The staff were always on hand very attentive but never in your face so to speak. It was a fabulous day and I would thoroughly recommend this pub as a great place for any event . Thanks to you all for making it all work so well and such a great atmosphere. Looking forward to coming back for your Sunday lunch.

We went here for the Sunday roast after a recommendation. It was phenomenal. Our plates were piled high with deliciousness. I got the pork belly with crackling which was very good but I'd recommend what my friends got -- the lamb. It was so tender and literally just melted as you touched it with a fork and knife. We also had dessert which was amazing! We had the banoffee pie which was so beautifully presented and we had the apple and plum crumble. I can't decide which one was better. They were both fantastic. Lovely pub. Impressive range of beers on tap (including Leffe, a rare treat!). The Sunday roasts are excellent. I can recommend the lamb and beef. The only downside is you can rarely get into this pub on Saturdays, as they seem to host a wedding every Saturday throughout the year.

We had our wedding reception here in November, and couldn't recommend it highly enough. From the moment we started planning the whole Londesborough team was fantastic, and Amber was so responsive and helpful. Knowing everything was taken care of in advance took so much stress out of the day, and nothing was too much trouble. Every detail was how we'd wanted it to be, and the day went smoothly from the moment we got there to the moment we left. The food, decoration and helpfulness of the team truly made this a day for us to remember: thank you!

We've visited this pub for a Sunday roast 3 times over the last 6 months and every time it has been perfect. It does a brilliant veggie option (spinach, mushroom and butternut squash wellington) - it is a little more expensive than other pubs but in our opinion it is worth the extra £3, especially for a special occasion. You do need to book in advance - and today they had no record of our booking but despite being fully booked they handled the whole thing professionally and politely and rearranged tables so they could seat us. A great pub!

We had our wedding reception at The Londesborough a week ago and are still buzzing from what a fantastic day it was. Amber and the team did an amazing job from start to finish, and many of our guests have commented that it was the best food that they've ever had at a wedding. Not only that, but the whole day was incredibly good value, and we ended up paying probably half of what we would have at a traditional wedding venue (and had half as much fun!) We can't thank them enough, and we strongly recommend The Londesborough to everyone wanting an effortless, fun, and good value London wedding.

This place is a pain in the Arsenal. You never know when it's operating as a pub/restaurant or is "closed for a private function". I've walked in a couple of times only to be told perfunctorily and gracelessly words to the effect that it's not a public house today and that I should therefore clear off. They seem to be doing ok out of their wedding/function business which must be welcome. But if most weekends you close the doors to the public for a day or more, and do the same on odd weekdays, you cease to satisfy the criteria of being a Public House. You can't have your cake and eat it, unless your invited. I like my pubs open to the public so shun this part-time, if not otherwise and more lucratively booked semi-pub.

Enjoyed walking around to this pub from where I was staying nearby. I felt like I was on a movie set. A typical London pub, as I see it in my mind. Great atmosphere. Good selection of wines (yeh, odd I know that I'm an Aussie and don't drink beer!). Good range of meals, nothing exotic but adequate. The menu could do with a few more vegetarian options. If I had more time I would have gone back!! Next time!

We held our wedding reception here on 21.08.15 and couldn't have asked for more from Amber and the team. Amber gave so much helpful advice throughout the planning process and was amazingly efficient. The pub itself is gorgeous and already has lots of quirky features (beer can wall displays and framed band artwork etc.), and the team did an amazing job putting up our own decorations/bunting and incorporating all of our personal details. I couldn't have been happier with how the pub looked. The Londesborough put on a beautiful cold buffet and BBQ spread which was perfect for our laid back wedding and lots of people commented on how lovely the venue looked and how good the food was. The service and organisation was faultless and everything ran perfectly. For anyone looking for a fun, laid back wedding reception, I would not hesitate to recommend The Londesborough.

Sept 4th 2115,went to the Longesbourogh pub for a wedding reception and it brilliant from start to finish..you could not wish for better than we had which was a cold buffet with cold ham with BBQ beefburgers and kebabs and eton mess for pudding.All the bar staff were very helpful and the pub had a great choice of beers and lagers.you might be a bit spread out but it was't a problem.....At the end of the evening if you want a cab just see the doorman,he was very helpful in get you one.

Held our Wedding Reception for 70 guests at The Londesborough. Very professional prior to the day and everything went perfectly. Guests commented upon a great venue, superb food and very friendly / hard working staff. Best summed up by our Best Man - "Best Wedding ever". We can't recommend The Londesborough more

Had a Sunday roast here in our local gastro pub.The space itself is perfect - bright, trendy, fun.However I was so disappointed in the food. Portions are huge but I think that this is to counter the underwhelming quality of the food itself.Beef was tough - left most of it.Roast spuds - hugely disappointing - didn't eat them (very upsetting for me, as an Irish person, not to have good potatoes!)Whole thing was swimming in gravy - no need for that, it should have been on the side rather than drenching everything on the plate and still having the plate swimming.I score my meal 4 /10, rest of the table were between 6 and 7/10 - but i think we were all over generous.Not too expensive - but it was not good value given the quality.Feel sad as I really wanted it to be great :(
