Nobody likes to be followed around a store. There only so many times you can restock the same area walk away and return to it. I felt uncomfortable but had to make a purchase because of the way I was being followed around.

Always overcharge on produce. If the shop assistant doesn’t know what something is (basic produce such as ginger) they will enter another random product into the till instead. Please train your staff, as it’s negatively affecting your business as shown by the other reviews.

Interesting to note that so many others have come to review this shop for the same reason as me - YET AGAIN, I HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANTLY OVERCHARGED HERE. Not only that, but when I returned with my goods and my receipt, there was no apology and instead much swearing and blaspheming, as though I was the one to blame. Always ask for a receipt (then never give one unless you ask for it - not very hard to work out why!!) and always check it - preferably before you leave the shop, not like me today, checking it only when I got home, but I was so incandescent with rage that they'd done it AGAIN, that I walked back through the rain to claim my refund. I totally agree with one of the other reviewers, that they pretend not to know the correct prices when you question the charge - it's happened to me here many times. The only reason I keep going back there is that their bread is very good, but after today's utter lack of customer service and shocking rudeness, I will NEVER shop here again - and urge you to do likewise. There are plenty of other shops just like this one, and plenty of other bakers too - shops that wouldn't dream of overcharging as a matter of course/whenever they think they can get away with it, and who understand what good customer service is.

These guys love to promote themselves as a local store. They certainly don’t do local store prices or attitude. You have to be very careful with sell by dates! I just noticed they were selling Campari for £12 more than the co-op a few doors up. I know co-op is a big brand but it’s also a franchise so not a big business either

A good shop selling a wide range of high end food. Some things are eye-wateringly expensive, but generally you get what you pay for in terms of quality, and there are some "normal" spar goods in here. However, if you look at some of the other, older reviews on here you'll see that people complain of mispricing/being over-charged. This is still happening. I have shopped here for a while so know to triple check prices, but even then still occasionally find myself being surprised at the till when something that DEFINITELY was marked up at 99p somehow scans as £1.45. Pretty inexcusable really.

I am a regular shopper here. I live a few roads away and love treating myself at Eat 17. It's too expensive for a regular shop but does amazing produce for one offs. I came in today though and had a bad experience with staff. I was buying a cake to take upstairs to baby cinema. There were lots displayed at the front but had no signs. I asked the cashier what the cakes were and he said he didnt know and didnt even want to try to find out. I asked if anyone else knew. He called over another staff member who actually seemed cross at me for asking. He grumpily said he thought the one I pointed at was carrot cake or something. When I asked if anyone else knew, he stormed off and got what I can assume was the manager. By this point I decided not to buy any and told the manager about the experience but he didnt seem very interested. Shame as the staff here are usually lovely. Must have got some temps in or something.

Great little shop with a good selection of products but the service was 0/10 I’m afraid. I was met at the till by two staff more interested in talking to one another in Spanish rather than engage with their customers. The whole time I was being served the two continued speaking only with each other, which probably led to me being charged for a new bottle of dish soap even though I’d said twice that it was a refill. Furthermore I than had to ask for my receipt from the now grumpy man with absolutely no concept of manners & their importance. I’ll be keeping my custom where it and I are valued, such a shame was this place is so local to me.

2 things gave away this restaurant's firm hipster character even before we arrived was the fact it was stationed in Homerton and the fact it is above a Spar. It is a big, spacious restaurant with a traditional, art-deco style decor so not your average pop-up. We ordered off the "downstairs burger menu" and the burgers were really excellent - i would have liked to have tried something off the main menu but sadly nothing really seemed to jump off the menu at me all the dishes just seemed to have too much going on so I went for the safe option of burger The dessert was very underwhelming - I will add here i am not a fan of "deconstructed" anything so the deconstructed sticky toffee pudding type dessert was not really up my street plus if you actually added all the bits together it would have made the world's tiniest dessert

I've been dying to come here since it opened but kept falling foul of the information on opening hours on the website which was (and still is) conflicting, and I arrived on a couple of occasions to find it closed. I ordered the panko crumbed halloumi wrap, and was disappointed to just get a pretty rubbish wrap actually - the wrap itself was cold, there was no crumb on the few small pieces of halloumi (which was the whole reason I ordered it), hardly any guacamole, and way too much sloppy slaw. It was one of the worst halloumi wraps I've eaten, so I left the vast majority of it :( The onion rings I had were fine but a bit underdone and I could have done with a couple more in the portion, while the fries were good but the portion was too big for one really - it would be better to serve a bit less and reduce the price rather than create waste. Overall, a big disappointment from someplace I had high hopes for.

I don't think Eat 17 as a cafe/restaurant can be reviewed seperately from the Spar in which it's contained. The produce sold, as well as the food prepared, is highly unique. Everything from birch water tapped from Scandanavian trees to Zebra jerky is packed into a shop that feels like a world tour of healthy cuisine. The cafe itself is good for a quick bite, the food feels like fancy fast-food. Hospital staff receive 15% discount. If it weren't for that I probably wouldn't eat there though, hence 4 rather than 5 stars, as the food is a little over-priced. My only other criticism is that the chef seems exceedingly surly, and I've seen him interact with front-of-house staff in a rude way that is uncomfortable to watch. I'd recommend calling in for a coffee, some cake and to buy something unique to eat at home!

Se andate a Londra, andate a visitare Hackney. Era un quartiere malfamato ed ora è trendy, pieno di vita e attività. E se siete lì fate una capatina all'Eat17. I've been coming to this restaurant quite frequently for the past year or so, but was left somewhat annoyed by my last visit. My bill came to something like £37, and it was only once I left that I realised they'd added a service charge of over £7, which means it was something like 20%, a percentage previously unheard of in my experience. I use an app called CODE, which gives discounts at certain restaurants if you work in the restaurant industry yourself - in the case of Eat 17, it offered 50% off the food. I'm all for service charge and always like to leave something, especially when you're getting a discount (I actually left my own tip before getting home and realising that they'd added service). I know they don't usually add service to their bills (I haven't been charged it for the last year in any case) and so I felt as though we were being punished for coming in with a discount. Eat 17, don't be part of CODE if you're going to make people pay for using it.

The tempura broccoli is a taste sensation and the truffle chips completely full you up. This is the second time we have been. After reading a lot of positive reviews we decided to give Eat 17 upstairs in Hackney a try. The dining room in the old cinema is stunning and the service has been attentive and helpful. The big let down was the most important part of dining out: the food. A very uninspired menu, mainly consisting of the typical gastro pub best sellers. Nothing that showed cooking ambition. <br /><br />Unfortunately the food that was served reflected this. The scallops as a starter were well cooked but a bit bland. The flavours of the butter milk chicken burgers were unbalanced so that the whole thing resembled more something like a curry. The lamb was very fatty and the spinach overly salty. The cheese platter for desert again was very agreeable but hardly tingling your tastebuds.<br /><br />Overall a very average experience. We expected a lot more.

Decor was what is describe as Art Deco, glamorous and retro, really nicely done. We&#039;ll definitely be returning.

My wife and 2 30+ children ate here on the 18th. The food we all agreed was good verging on the very good. I had a superb steak, melt in the mouth, The burgers were good both the beef and the chicken were delicious. The chips, I refuse to call them by any other name, were the best I've tasted in a very long time. I recommend this restaurant without reservation. Prices are reasonable as well. After eating your fill you can then go shopping in the posh Spar shop on the ground floor.

We really enjoyed our meal here. You just step off chatsworth road and up the stairs above the spar and it&#039;s like being in central. The interior is nicely decorated. Some other diners had a cocktail at the bar first before being seated which seemed like a good idea. Not because it was busy. I&#039;d go here just for a drink at the bar and maybe some of their bar snacks too. Our waiter was really friendly and helpful for recommendations which these days are like gold dust.

The restaurant is small, with a very warm deco and ambiance. Staff are very welcoming and they have original cocktails to start with, which are tasty and well adapted to the season; the bartender was attentive and friendly, but his best asset were his cocktails and his skill at making them. One of the best cocktails I've had at a good price. The meal was also very good, all waiters are friendly and attentive, with a casual air. The food is well cooked and very tasty, waiters give good recommendations. We didn't go for a full meal this time, but I can't wait to come back and try their wines and more food!

Definitely one of the best restaurants in Hackney with one of those menus that you could order almost anything off - there's something for everyone. I had the lamb which was cooked to perfection, and was a good quality piece of meat. The flourless chocolate dessert was well balanced (extremely rich &amp; chocolately, but not too sweet), and of the house Spanish wines surprisingly good.I loved the mood lighting (makes a change from it being too bright), and the decor is very tasteful. Sets a new standard for Hackney/Chatsworth Road.

Great addition to the original eat 17 restaurant in Walthamstow. Atmospheric vibe, a bit dark and very opulent &amp; quirky. Food is tasty but portions could be better value for the price. Overall had a nice time and the cocktails were good.

This was my 2nd visit to the restaurant and again the Sunday lunch was lovely. Very child friendly as they had a high chair for my baby but the only problem was when I had to change him there were no baby changing facilities? I had to change him outside the disabled toilets and they had to bring a leather chair for him to lay down and away from other diners so they cannot see.<br /><br />Other then that, I would come here again. Pity the place was empty as it was a lovely sunny day outside and diners will probably prefer outdoor dining from nearby eateries.

The food was superb, although on the expensive side for the area - but worth it! For a cheaper option, there's always the fantastic burger bar downstairs (not to mention all the fantastic goodies available in the shop).

We picked Eat 17 almost at random after the Hackney half Marathon and were delighted at the quality of the food and service. The roast beef was perfectly cooked with large, fluffy Yorkshire puds. The burger was delicious with triple fried chips and the Lebanese wine we picked was a great complement to our food. The tiramisu was yummy but the dairy free chocolate ice cream was a bit too healthy!<br /><br />The service was attentive but not overwhelming - we had a lovely time and will go back when we&#039;re next in Hackney.

I do love eating here. Our last visit we took our parents as we loved it so much when we went for our anniversary. However so many tables had children it really spoiled the atmosphere. Having left my own three at home for a grown up night out and owing to the decor and bar I was hoping it was a bit more of an adult space and you can save downstairs for the kids. Everything else was great though, food and service particularly.
