The Lock Keepers in Tewkesbury

Last night was my second visit to the Lock keepers. We were greeted by a young man who was very polite and friendly, offered us a choice of seats despite it being obviously very busy. There was no delay in taking drinks or food orders. We only ordered chips but they came very quickly and were delivered by the chef, who again was very polite and friendly. They do a fantastic burger and a pint meal for £15 on Tuesday and Wednesdays all day and evening and these look amazing!!!! I will definitely be going back for one of those! I'm not sure the evening al carte menu of for me personally but with the burger meal then it is a perfect range. Fantastic staff, stunning atmosphere with all the lovely lights and candles, would 100% recommend, it's a real hidden gem.

Beautifully situated on the canal and dog friendly. Easy to get to, plenty of parking. A peaceful walk along the canal to take the dog on before we sat down. The food was outstanding and staff were really welcoming. We will definitely be making this our regular and bringing our friends: whether it's for coffee and brunch, drinks or dinner.

Recently had a wonderful evening at The Lock Keepers! Such a lovely place, great laid back atmosphere and very pretty interior! My partner and I also loved our food, we’ll definitely be back to try some else from the menu!

Delicious food and great quality too! Lovely surroundings for a walk before or after your meal. Outdoor seating is surrounded by beautiful gardens. Friendly, helpful staff. All good is cooked fresh which can mean food takes a while to be served although it is always worth the wait!

Lovely warm atmosphere, the staff were great and accommodating (lighting the fire to make us cosy!). The raspberry espresso martini was delicious. Very attentive and great people, thanks for having us ☺️

Make sure you book for a fabulous Sunday roast.. We visit this wonderful place regularly. Friendly helpful staff with the most sublime food. Today was no exception, we took friends who had not been before. Sublime, tender roast beef and pork with incredible morish gravy, it was just delicious. For pudding we had chocolate brownie, warm and delicious. Followed by coffee and our friends thanked us for introducing them to the Lockeepers, they'll be back too!

Very welcoming to both us and our dog. Stopped for breakfast which was really tasty. Had a couple of questions regarding the rooms upstairs and they were all answered. Nice guy serving who mentioned he hadn’t been there long. Really pleased with the service and food.

Such a great welcome in this lovely restaurant. Food was excellent - service was second to none. We will be back for another annual family celebration.

Just Amazing Food. Could not fault anything, from the moment we entered the Lock Keepers we were greeted by friendly staff who could not do enough, asked us did we have a booking, which we did not, but they managed to entertain us and WOW the food was just amazing. We had the prawns and scallops to start, which were full of flavour and delicious, our main was the ox beef cheek…bearing in mind I had not tried this dish before, every mouthful was divine, definitely recommend this, we also had the risotto, again could not fault this dish, it too was cooked perfectly and presented immaculately. Definitely give this little hideaway a try, you will be amazed. Brogan, Alexeji and all the staff, Thankyou for a Fine Dining Experience. We will be Back ☘️

We booked a last minute nights stay, our room was spacious, clean and tidy, the bed was really comfy. Food was delicious the burger was one of the best I’ve ever had! Staff were so lovely and accommodating, highly recommend!

We popped in for a light lunch today and chose 3 starters to share. All were absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The service was warm and friendly. We will be back .

We visited this lovely family restaurant and hotel, and it was an amazing experience! The atmosphere is so cozy – you can feel the love and care in everything. The staff are incredibly kind and welcoming, like visiting old friends😍The food is fantastic, and every detail is thought out. We felt at home, surrounded by warmth and care. We visited as a party of 12 following a family event. The surroundings were lovely, the staff were friendly and efficient, and the food was very good. A couple of vegetarians were well catered for too

Such a lovely place to come for an intimate and quiet lunch. Been here a few times now and each time the staff are so accommodating. Food and drinks are both fabulous quality.

Wow what an experience of some delightful food. I’ve been all round Europe and I’ve been to America and I’ve never tested food as good as this. Would 100% recommend this place. Food looked incredible and tasted even better. Owners are so lovely and welcoming and staff were so friendly. I will be definitely coming back to try more on the menu with the family.

Only one option for vegetarian on the main menu. Food was ok, although my friend wasn't impressed with their food (a bit dry). People were very nice but the service seemed a bit disjointed, almost like it was uni students back for Christmas and it was their first day working. Nice setting to take someone for lunch / dinner though.

Popped in for a pint and a bowl of chips. Nice place with lovely, friendly staff. Dog friendly too. Rated it based on what we had, so don't take this as an indication of the general quality of their meals. Would definitely return.

Relaxing and cosy spot for lunch with some friends. Could have stayed all day, the staff are very accommodating and the food never misses. Will be coming back for the brunch!

Absolutely delicious roast dinner ! Everything was so flavoursome and cooked to perfection. By far the best in Gloucestershire ! Bravo chef ! Lovely atmosphere, despite being extremely busy and accommodating us last minute we were looked after so attentively by staff and treated like VIPS. This restaurant must be put up for some awards. 5 star service snd 5 star food can’t wait to come back xxx

Fortunate to have this as my local as the food is exceptional. The roast dinner is particularly special. Have tried their new menu the last couple of visits. Last night I had the bruschetta with creamy mushroom followed by Seabass which was splendid. I can always can count on the Lockeepers for excellent food, atmosphere and good service. I like that the chef is attentive and checks people are happy. I believe this is truly 5 star.

Visited last night .., there should be a sign on front door :- Children Welcome., however must be strictly supervised at all times .., !! My god it was like a kindergarten.., kids screaming 😱!! Food was average not what I thought it was going to be like.., waitress service was excellent very attentive..,

Great Sunday lunch here. Tender beef and good selection of veg. The desert ( had biscoff cheesecake ) was superb. Staff attentive. The chef checked in with us personally to ask if the food was ok for everyone. Our first visit and we will definitely return. Thank you.

Would like to say a big thank you to all the front of house staff and a big shout out to our server Alfie. The service throughout our visit was wonderful, very kind and knowledgeable on what the pub had to offer. We had the pleasure of eating at the lock keeper for their Sunday roasts and puddings. The food was very flavourful, fresh and well presented and all ten of us didn't have a bad comment to say about the food. We each had a roast (pork, chicken, beef), the pub was also able to accomodate for a vegetarian roast option and a range of different desserts. The pub was very accommodating to our group as we had emailed to book our table and the communication was quick and easy and any questions we had asked were answered. When we arrived we had two dogs and they had prepared a table for us knowing this which was situated in a warm cosy area but leaving enough distance from any other tables so we weren't disturbing them. The only critique we all said was it was a shame to see the manager have stern words with the staff at a loud enough volume that we could all hear, especially as it was feedback about the service to our table. Which once again I would like to highlight was brilliant!

Although we were made to pre-order, our food took over 30 minutes to arrive. We had a 12.30 booking, so it wasn't that busy when we arrived.

An Absolutely Marvelous Experience! I recently had the pleasure of visiting this pub with my family, and I can’t stop raving about it! From the moment we walked in, the welcoming atmosphere and the warm, friendly staff made us feel right at home. The food? It was simply divine—seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection, with garnishes that added a beautiful finishing touch to every dish. Each bite felt like a treat! What I loved even more was the ambience, both indoors and outdoors. The outdoor seating, right by the canal and river, was serene and picturesque. My children were absolutely enchanted by all the plants, flowers, and insects. My daughter especially loved the lovely little decorations around the plants, which made her day even more special. This was, without a doubt, one of the most marvelous experiences I’ve ever had. While it might not be an everyday indulgence, it’s the perfect spot for celebrating special moments. Whether it’s to treat yourself or to reward family and friends, this is the place to go for an unforgettable time!

Really lovely and dog friendly place to stop for lunch. We were driving to Wales and found the Lock Keeper’s as a place to stop with the dogs. Fish and chips were delicious, homemade Victoria sponge cake really good as well and the dogs loved their treats! Staff were very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the view sitting on the patio looking over the canal. Would recommend.

Best roast we’ve had out in a long time, the beef was amazing, veg was tasty and cooked perfectly. Really really great meal, staff are friendly and attentive. Not to mention the delicious dessert. I highly recommend The Lockeepers for any occasion.

We used to eat (mainly Sunday lunch) regularly here until service became quite bad. Saw recent reviews majority of them excellent so decided to bite the bullet and try once more. Not a good decision 😕. Pleasant staff greeted us and we were promptly sat down at our table. That was it, although there were approx 6 staff, they mostly stood around. We were left for 20-25 mins and one of us had to go to bar and ask if we could order. We all had roast beef. The beef was thickly cut and very dry and overcooked unlike the broccoli 🥦 could not even cut it let alone try to eat it The saving grace were the deserts, delicious and very generous portions. We will not be going back and will not be recommending to friends.

Surprised to find exceptionally delicious food, cooked with great craft and knowledge. We loved it and returned the next weekend, especially for the chocolate mousse encased in roasted almonds and the totally sublime tirrimisu.

Amazing find; the burgers were so delicious, the service prompt and friendly. As a group of seven we all loved our food and would highly recommend this as a place to eat. Situated right next to Over Basin it is also a lovely setting for a pre or post dinner stroll.

Absolutely incredible place for food and drinks! We have had plenty of meals here, most recently being the roast dinner and it blew us away! I’m usually not a fan of having a roast dinner out as I feel it’s hard to beat a proper home made roast dinner, however the Lock Keepers roast dinner is totally up there with the best of all home made roast dinners! Absolute quality and we will be back for sure! The setting is so beautiful too and the most warm and welcoming service! We love the lock keepers! ✨🥂

Lovely meal at The Lock Keepers

Avoid!!! Booked Sunday lunch had the booking confirmation too via email. Arrived for lunch to be told there is no space and they couldn’t make space for us as they pre-prepare their portions based on bookings and some how our booking is no longer showing! Really disappointed. To make matters worse after being told they are fully booked for the whole afternoon so couldn’t squeeze us in, I checked online and had the option to book for in an hours time to be told this wouldn’t be honoured. Clearly a case of tables going over their allocated time and inexperienced staff and management unable to manage this. Edit in response to comments: I’m really not a negative person quite the opposite in fact, this comment speaks volumes about your poor commitment to customer service. To clarify, there was no effort to fit us in, your exact comment was “All portions are allocated and based on the pre- bookings” and therefore we could not eat in the garden or be squeezed in as there was not enough for us.

4 friends, 2 couples visiting for the first time. Driven past the turning many times over the last 5+ years and always wanted to try it. I wasn't disappointed. Limited menu, which is a good thing. Calarami to start which was superb, fish chips and mushy peas to follow. Chips were outstanding,.peas good and fish OK, but the batter was slightly tough, however the fish itself was good.. Others had chicken, salmon and steak which they were happy with. No room for desert. Friendly, smiling and efficient staff and lovely setting sitting outside. Inch's draft cider was very well kept and went down very well. The venue was a little quiet, which was a shame as it's a great spot with good food and great service. We will be back.

First time diners at The Lock Keepers as we had heard that it is under new management. Initial observation, no problems parking great start (free parking, unlike The Quays). Smaller menu, perhaps 7 or 8 mains choices which I prefer by far as it means the meals are more likely to be fresh ingredients and freshly prepared. Three of our party had the salmon and it was delicious. The salmon was accompanied by potatoes, green beans, mussels and a perfect beurre blanc. The meal was perfectly seasoned. First impression is that this a little hidden gem. We’ve booked again for Sunday lunch!

Such a fantastic spot! Great service and a lovely team :) Calamari starter was delicious and loved the fish and chips as a main! Lovely atmosphere too. Wish it had been warmer so we could have sat outside! Really looking forward to coming back soon.

Absolutely delicious Sunday dinner, went with family for Father’s Day and it did not disappoint, the lamb melted in your mouth, the vegetables, different coloured carrots, creamy leeks, broccoli were cooked to perfection and the roast potatoes and gravy was divine, just perfect. Take my word for it and give it a go. Staff and owners make a great team ☘️☘️ very attentive and on the ball. Look forward to our next visit

Had a lovely lad serve us and the salad was lovely but that's about it. Took an age to get the salad. Then that was it. They didn't seem that bothered with us so never got to order a pudding. The toilets were horrendous. Filthy dirty. Went to use the disabled toilet and that was disgusting too. Wouldn't go there again.

Very disappointing, a disaster! We had had a recommendation for a good Sunday Lunch here and having read reviews went ahead and booked for my Father In Law’s birthday and were very much looking forward to it. On arrival, we were seated and given menus only to be told ten minutes later that there was no beef or pork, the only two options for a roast, leaving us with a salmon and vegetarian dish only as alternatives, neither of which anyone in our party would have ordered. I appreciate it can be difficult to judge but we had make a booking, it was not busy and I had also put a note in the booking about the celebration and also called on the day only an hour or so prior arrival and nothing was said. Really not acceptable on any Sunday but especially when booked for a special occasion which they were aware of. We found ourselves in the car park trying to rescue the situation calling around for a last minute alternative. The website advises Sunday Lunch is until 5pm, obviously this is not guaranteed so book with caution, you may not be catered for. Really disappointing and bad management I’m afraid.

We walked across Alney Island from Gloucester on a cool grey day to The Lock Keepers at Over where we received a warm welcome. Mussels, loaded chips, steak ciabatta, salmon, and burger were all excellent, served by friendly staff in a pleasantly buzzing ambience. Local ales and cider are on draught, and there is a good bus service (22, 23, 24) to and from Gloucester if you wish to avoid walking or driving. The adjoining Canal Basin walk (less than a mile, flat) is worth a visit. We highly recommend the Lock Keepers, but before visiting check opening times on their web.

Beautiful location. Comfortable environment. Warm and welcoming. Attentive service with a smile. Excellent food quality at reasonable prices. Only minor negative is, drinks selection a bit limited compared to some other restaurants.

Food was good but our evening was sadly spoiled with a screeching hen party group. It was clear that other patrons were also being annoyed with the risiculous noise levels but the staff didn't challenge the group or ask them to quieten their voices. We had hoped for a nice, quiet dinner - the restaurant seemed that it would be good for this - it wasn't.

We went to the Lock Keepers for Sunday Lunch which for an adult was lovely but unfortunately my grandchildren will not eat a roast out at a restaurant and there was no others choices than for them to have fries. Such a shame I should have checked before I booked as it spoilt lunchtime.

A hidden gem. Absolutely fantastic food with a beautiful country aesthetic. If they showed the rugby and had Guinness on draught... This place would be a game changer.

We had such a fantastic time here! First time we had ever visited the place after hearing it had gone under new management. Me, the wife, a friend and the dog all went on a Sunday and had a great experience. They even got a water bowl for our dog. We all had starters and the lamb roast as a main and it was gorgeous to eat. We will definitely be coming again!

This was my first visit, my family booked it and I must say I got a really pleasant surprise the food is amazing very well presented and I must say the chips are to die for and I’m really not a big chip fan the service was good and staff friendly I will definitely be back again.

This is the best Sunday lunch i have eaten in a pub/restaurant. Booked for 2 at 3pm and the quality and taste was second to none. I had the beef which was tender and fell apart but not stringy and my husband had loin of pork and crackling which he said was moist and tender. Both came with home made Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, red cabbage, roast carrots and parsnips and broccoli. All cooked to perfection and a great change to mushy veg that you quite often receive with a roast dinner. The gravy is to die for, dark and rich in taste and quite happy to provide more if needed. We went for cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets as extras which dont disappoint, the sausages are large butchers chipolates with quality bacon. Apple sauce and homemade horseradish sauce were available at request. I had no room for dessert but my husband had apple crumble which I just had to try, the apples were caramelised and the homemade crumble was delicious. The wine is very reasonably priced, £15 for a very nice pinot grigio. This restaurant is a hidden gem, the staff are friendly and accommodating, the chef amazing and a beautiful location and surroundings. I love this place and will definitely be coming back again.

Called in for coffee to break a journey on thursday morning(25th). The girl who served us was lovely and the coffee was good.It is a shame that our experience was spoilt by the chilly temperature and by another member of staff who clearly had an issue with the girl who served us and rather loudly reduced her to tears in front of customers.

Food took ages to arrive and my ham tasted funky. Wasn't ill or anything just a bizarre taste. Quite chilly inside. Delivery not put away so boxes everywhere

Really good food. We were a party of 12 and we all enjoyed our food. Not a massive menu which I always prefer because it means generally that they do all the options really well which was exactly the case ! Thanks for an enjoyable lunch. We will return in the near future.

The title says it all. I’d heard good things about The Lockkeeper’s but didn’t expect it to be quite as fantastic as it was. We were the last table of the day (we had pre-booked, knowing they’d be fully booked in advance) but the staff still went above and beyond to offer us extras even though they probably wanted us gone so they could finish! The beef was cooked perfectly, still pink, and was a thick prime cut. I’m gluten free so couldn’t have one of their huge homemade Yorkshires but I didn’t feel I’d missed out (they said they’d tried to make GF ones many times but just couldn’t get them to the standard they wanted, which is fair, and better to admit than to serve up a frozen supermarket one!). The side of cauliflower cheese was big enough for 3 of us to share and the veg was great - tenderstem etc, not just regular mixed veg as some pubs do. Perfect roasties too,.. I couldn’t fault a thing. They were so accommodating and I liked how knowledgable they were about gluten free, and how practically everything could be easily made GF with no fuss. Can’t wait to come back!

We came for a large Christmas booking and unfortunately it took over an hour for our starters to come out and then gone 9pm for our dinner to arrive. All the food was pre-ordered beforehand and unfortunately some parts of each option tasted quite salty, with a scarcity of vegetables for the mains, and not in proportion to others having the same dish.

This is the first time we attempted to dine at the Lock keepers. We walked in and the restaurant was beautifully presented. However...we asked about breakfast availability and the waitress that we asked was extremely rude and couldn't be bothered with our enquiry. She stated they were fully booked and was so rude we decided we definitely won't be coming back. Such a shame as the setting looked lovely.

I’ve been here a few times and it’s always been very good however the Sunday dinner is a must! It’s honestly the best roast I’ve had, all veg is seasoned and the meat falls apart in the mouth ( I went for braised beef) the potatoes are so crispy but fluffy inside and the gravy is made the French way - so rich and flavourful. Wow! I’ll be back!

The Sunday Roast was Amazing!! Full of flavour and did not disappoint. Probably the best roast I have had. Meat and veg seasoned to perfection and the gravy wow you really need to try!!

Great little pub/restaurant, staff all really welcoming and friendly. Never had any food, but will definitely be visiting again to try. One thing I will say is the carpark could do with resurfacing, huge pot holes. Highly recommend, and will definitely be visiting again. 👌👌👌

We just got back from a delicious Sunday roast and there were 9 of us celebrating a double birthday. Good service, a reasonable wait for food and it did not disappoint when it arrived! Very good.

friendly staff . Menu needs a revamp . Desert options pretty basic and limited. One of our party had fish and chips which looked good . i had a chicken dish with potatoes . The vegetable portions were tiny . Service good.
