Absolutely incredible place for food and drinks! We have had plenty of meals here, most recently being the roast dinner and it blew us away! I’m usually not a fan of having a roast dinner out as I feel it’s hard to beat a proper home made roast dinner, however the Lock Keepers roast dinner is totally up there with the best of all home made roast dinners! Absolute quality and we will be back for sure! The setting is so beautiful too and the most warm and welcoming service! We love the lock keepers! ✨🥂

Avoid!!! Booked Sunday lunch had the booking confirmation too via email. Arrived for lunch to be told there is no space and they couldn’t make space for us as they pre-prepare their portions based on bookings and some how our booking is no longer showing! Really disappointed. To make matters worse after being told they are fully booked for the whole afternoon so couldn’t squeeze us in, I checked online and had the option to book for in an hours time to be told this wouldn’t be honoured. Clearly a case of tables going over their allocated time and inexperienced staff and management unable to manage this. Edit in response to comments: I’m really not a negative person quite the opposite in fact, this comment speaks volumes about your poor commitment to customer service. To clarify, there was no effort to fit us in, your exact comment was “All portions are allocated and based on the pre- bookings” and therefore we could not eat in the garden or be squeezed in as there was not enough for us.

4 friends, 2 couples visiting for the first time. Driven past the turning many times over the last 5+ years and always wanted to try it. I wasn't disappointed. Limited menu, which is a good thing. Calarami to start which was superb, fish chips and mushy peas to follow. Chips were outstanding,.peas good and fish OK, but the batter was slightly tough, however the fish itself was good.. Others had chicken, salmon and steak which they were happy with. No room for desert. Friendly, smiling and efficient staff and lovely setting sitting outside. Inch's draft cider was very well kept and went down very well. The venue was a little quiet, which was a shame as it's a great spot with good food and great service. We will be back.

First time diners at The Lock Keepers as we had heard that it is under new management. Initial observation, no problems parking great start (free parking, unlike The Quays). Smaller menu, perhaps 7 or 8 mains choices which I prefer by far as it means the meals are more likely to be fresh ingredients and freshly prepared. Three of our party had the salmon and it was delicious. The salmon was accompanied by potatoes, green beans, mussels and a perfect beurre blanc. The meal was perfectly seasoned. First impression is that this a little hidden gem. We’ve booked again for Sunday lunch!

Very disappointing, a disaster! We had had a recommendation for a good Sunday Lunch here and having read reviews went ahead and booked for my Father In Law’s birthday and were very much looking forward to it. On arrival, we were seated and given menus only to be told ten minutes later that there was no beef or pork, the only two options for a roast, leaving us with a salmon and vegetarian dish only as alternatives, neither of which anyone in our party would have ordered. I appreciate it can be difficult to judge but we had make a booking, it was not busy and I had also put a note in the booking about the celebration and also called on the day only an hour or so prior arrival and nothing was said. Really not acceptable on any Sunday but especially when booked for a special occasion which they were aware of. We found ourselves in the car park trying to rescue the situation calling around for a last minute alternative. The website advises Sunday Lunch is until 5pm, obviously this is not guaranteed so book with caution, you may not be catered for. Really disappointing and bad management I’m afraid.

We walked across Alney Island from Gloucester on a cool grey day to The Lock Keepers at Over where we received a warm welcome. Mussels, loaded chips, steak ciabatta, salmon, and burger were all excellent, served by friendly staff in a pleasantly buzzing ambience. Local ales and cider are on draught, and there is a good bus service (22, 23, 24) to and from Gloucester if you wish to avoid walking or driving. The adjoining Canal Basin walk (less than a mile, flat) is worth a visit. We highly recommend the Lock Keepers, but before visiting check opening times on their web.

This is the best Sunday lunch i have eaten in a pub/restaurant. Booked for 2 at 3pm and the quality and taste was second to none. I had the beef which was tender and fell apart but not stringy and my husband had loin of pork and crackling which he said was moist and tender. Both came with home made Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, red cabbage, roast carrots and parsnips and broccoli. All cooked to perfection and a great change to mushy veg that you quite often receive with a roast dinner. The gravy is to die for, dark and rich in taste and quite happy to provide more if needed. We went for cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets as extras which dont disappoint, the sausages are large butchers chipolates with quality bacon. Apple sauce and homemade horseradish sauce were available at request. I had no room for dessert but my husband had apple crumble which I just had to try, the apples were caramelised and the homemade crumble was delicious. The wine is very reasonably priced, £15 for a very nice pinot grigio. This restaurant is a hidden gem, the staff are friendly and accommodating, the chef amazing and a beautiful location and surroundings. I love this place and will definitely be coming back again.

The title says it all. I’d heard good things about The Lockkeeper’s but didn’t expect it to be quite as fantastic as it was. We were the last table of the day (we had pre-booked, knowing they’d be fully booked in advance) but the staff still went above and beyond to offer us extras even though they probably wanted us gone so they could finish! The beef was cooked perfectly, still pink, and was a thick prime cut. I’m gluten free so couldn’t have one of their huge homemade Yorkshires but I didn’t feel I’d missed out (they said they’d tried to make GF ones many times but just couldn’t get them to the standard they wanted, which is fair, and better to admit than to serve up a frozen supermarket one!). The side of cauliflower cheese was big enough for 3 of us to share and the veg was great - tenderstem etc, not just regular mixed veg as some pubs do. Perfect roasties too,.. I couldn’t fault a thing. They were so accommodating and I liked how knowledgable they were about gluten free, and how practically everything could be easily made GF with no fuss. Can’t wait to come back!

We came for a large Christmas booking and unfortunately it took over an hour for our starters to come out and then gone 9pm for our dinner to arrive. Absolutely appalled at how badly run this place is! I booked weeks in advance to secure a table for family as it was my husbands birthday, and happily provided a pre order over a week in advance. However there was nothing but issues, poor communication from the start meant our order wasn’t dealt with properly, they had to call me the morning of our booking to ask me to send through the whole pre order again! We arrived for Sunday lunch which was booked at 1.30pm, and didn’t receive our meal until 3.30pm despite asking several times, and people coming in later than us and still getting their meals before us, what is the point of pre ordering?! The food also took 30 minutes from the first dish being brought out to everyone getting their meal, and they had forgotten one who was then told they’d run out of the roast beef so had to settle with pork (even though we pre ordered!). The food itself was lovely, and the staff were so embarrassed at the waiting times, apparently this is a reoccurring thing every Sunday due to poor management!! They only had one chef for the whole restaurant all day, one pot wash, and 3 bartenders / waiters. Due to the 2 hour wait for food, this meant we had to change plans for later on in the day, we will not be returning!

This was the worst meal we have ever had, the staff need training, we arrived and was sent to table which was booked, we were then left for about 10 mins before anyone came to see if we wanted a drink, we were then left again after receiving drinks before they came to take our orders, my son in law and I ordered a prawn cocktail, when it finally arrived after more than half hour, it wasn’t that busy, we could not believe what we were served, we had a few prawns on 3 pieces of lettuce, how they can call that a prawn cocktail is beyond me, when Sunday lunch finally arrived, 3 of us had the roast beef which was 1 slice the thickness of a small steak, unfortunately I only had half a piece, the roast potatoes tasted stale as if they had been cooked and left to go cold, we don’t know what the veg was, only cauliflower cheese which we ordered separately. I did complain and was told they were taking 15% off bill which was a complete insult. The chef came to our table and apologised,he said they had 40 other diners and no one complained, I don’t usually complain but could not let this go .

Ham egg and chips, loaded fries, kids fish and chips and the best presented kids sausage and mash I’ve ever seen were all absolute treat. A couple of very reasonably priced ice creams for the kids afterwards and we all left very satisfied having enjoyed friendly, attentive service and the option of whatever atmosphere you wish for: a small area with low chairs and coffee tables next to the bar with the big telly, tucked around the side for a more restaurant experience, the best of both worlds with a couple of tables near the bar, or there’s always the decking outside overlooking the water. A delightful, nicely decorated spot well worth a visit.

Staff were good as gold. But Restaurant was cold (many customers kept their coat on), menu was narrow and some things weren’t available and some dishes weren’t as described. We won’t be returning.

Very disappointed. Came with my family were told no chips as we entered. Very poor value, veg curry was 3 cauliflower flourettes, and 2 slices of carrot and a small, hard nan bread. Others had sausage and mash. Again, very poor value, looked like a child's portion. Waiter was lovely, but very disappointed manager never came and spoke to us. 10 % off bill was an insult. Even charged when asked for custard and ice cream on pudding. We wish we had refused to eat it or taken photos. What a shame as I've recommended to many in the past, and taken large groups of work colleagues. If chef was a problem, this should have been reflected in price or what was on offer. Had to stop at Macdonalds on the way home.

We were disgusted with amount of food and quality. Two basic sausages and a small scoop of mash and two strands of broccoli for £16pp which 3 out of six ordered. The vegetable curry was just under cooked cauliflower and a jar of sauce and rice with small Nan for £14 the value for money was extremely bad. Drinks and waiter were very good. We complained and were given 10% off bill, an insult! The manager did not come and speak to us, left waiter to deal with situation. To add insult to injury we were charged additional £1 for order ring ice cream and custard with sticky toffee pudding. We visited McDonald’s on our way home.

When I booked, I had no idea there would be no breakfast or dinner option. Great quiet location, just don’t stay here on a Monday and Tuesday as you are on your own… Literally! Hopefully you don’t have any issues on your self check in as again, you are on your own! If you’re hungry on arrival (Monday and Tuesday), good luck! There is nowhere immediately local around to eat. Shame as it could be a good experience.

Low score for food only because the hotel has no staff for Mondays and Tuesdays. Like the Marie Celeste. Two members who did appear were off duty but very helpful. Lovely setting next to an old Canal basin. Rooms excellent.

Had booked and confirmed a wedding breakfast with Danielle. The day after our wedding everyone had arrived to find that our booking wasn't in the diary (even though we had email confirmation) and they couldn't seat us as they didn't have enough food to feed all of us (there were 40 of us). Very poor service and wouldn't recommend.

We were a bit late getting here, and there was ten minutes to go on the lunch service. However they couldn't be more helpful. I had a lovely cheese burger while my partner had sausage and mash. Proper
