The Live and Let Live in Cambridge

"Old school" backstreet corner local. About 10 minutes walk from Cambridge train station. As far as I know, it's an independent free house, not tied to a brewery. Always an interesting selection of well kept cask and craft keg beers available. Cosy unspoilt interior, including a small snug towards the back.

Picked this place since we were hoping the football wouldn't be on:) First time visit with 2 of my friends and what a lovely surprise. Great selection of drinks, really nice atmosphere and friendly service. Proper cozy pub that I am sure me and my friends will visit again!

I have been coming to this pub for many years, it was my preferred one in Cambridge up against a lot of competition. I hadn't been since the pandemic and was told it had changed and not for the better. Whoever told me that was wrong. It is still a great sociable pub with very good beer choices. It was busier, buzzier, smarter but still with a great welcoming atmosphere. Please keep changing for the better and I hope to be back soon.

Liked pub very much , went there with a friend had couple of drinks bank holiday Monday afternoon, friendly bar lady and nice old fashioned pub with wooden beams, will try to visit again soon , recommend to anyone

Superb back street pub. Great choice of well kept ales and a good selection of craft beers and lagers and the Pinot Grigio was very drinkable too. No food but a great place to meet for a drink.

Me and my family stumbled across this pub by accident in Christmas Eve whilst looking for somewhere to have a drink before my son's birthday meal at a pub nearby. To be honest I'd have been happy to spend the whole evening at The Live and Let Live; it's a pub you feel comfy in with a cosy wood clad interior, friendly service, pleasant clientele, and (for me as an ale drinker) an excellent selection of beers in the pumps that I'd have liked to work my way through if I'd had time. The ciders and other drinks were appreciated too. It's a tucked away treasure.

Great little pub, used to drink there years ago with a old friend, was nice to visit again on NYE great service and very relaxed atmosphere, will be back for sure.

Lovely cosy local pub, didn't try the food if there was any, but the crisps were excellent! Mostly male drinkers but me and my friend weren't uncomfortable as its a nice, easy going crowd.

A gem of a really lovely local pub. Staff were friendly and helpful. Multiple beers on tap including several tasty and well-kept ales on cask. Will definitely make a point to return when I'm in the area again.

Wonderful little pub. We went there a few Sundays ago on our first visit to Cambridge and were greeted by the friendliest bartender. She was playing a delightful playlist and made us feel incredibly welcomed. Such a lovely atmosphere and a great range of beers. I'd definitely go back next time I'm around.

Fantastic pub. No food options to my knowledge, hence the 4. But this place easily has some of the best beer in Cambridge. Well worth the trip if you're happy to spend a few extra quid for very good quality beer + a great atmosphere. Very wholesome vibes.

A charming and cosy pub which always has an exciting array of beers to choose from! The staff are super friendly and it's nice to see the pride flags on display. Strong recommend for anyone in the area.

There are a lot of good pubs in this area and this is one that you definitely want to add to the visit list. The person behind the bar was very friendly also which is always nice to experience.

Great little hidden gem of a pub. Beers always in excellent condition, and plenty to choose from as well. At busy times, it can be very tight for space, but who could blame everyone for piling in?

One of the few remaining Proper Boozers in the UK, where company, camaraderie and conversation are encouraged in this contemporary take on an Olde Worlde pub. No overpriced bistro food here, just delicious bar food. The beers are well chosen and uncommonly well kept. The whisky and rum selection is wide and welcoming. And the bar staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and their enthusiasm shines through. Whether you are whiling away an afternoon, whetting your whistle after work, or settling in for a session, this pub is a gem!

Under different management these days. Nothing has changed structurally but it's had a bit of a spring clean and it's the better for it. Nice traditional kind of pub, beers are in decent condition and the staff are friendly. Continuing to improve, establishing a new set of regulars. Worth a look if you are in the area.

Intimate and friendly place for catching up with friends and a decent options for beers on tap. Live music on some Fridays.

Great well kept beer.cask ales. Friendly staff, in a traditional English pub. Diverse crowd. Good but not overly loud music. Perfect place for a sneaky pint away from the main mill road. Tye building itself is quite old. And once sited a brewery.

EDIT: Please note that since my review (below) was written, the Live and Let Live is now under completely new management and staffing. This has happened since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Thank you. Excellent, well-kept beer, served with a smile. Crisps, nuts, pickled eggs, scotch eggs and pork pies are available but no meals. Rum Festival twice a year - often the last weekend of April and the last weekend of October. About a 10 minute walk from Cambridge Railway Station.

Not been here for some time and it had been closed for years but found out it reopened in March 2022! Excellent traditional ale pub, very friendly and it looks closed most of the time so make sure you push the door!

I'd say one of the best pubs to the south from Cambridge city centre. Lovely decor and good quality beer selection. They don't do food but let you order in or bring in a takeaway.

Lovely varied selection of draft and cask beer. The barman was friendly and gave a few recommendations for beer that was spot on. Interior is lovely, comfortable and warming. The craft beer on tap was expensive but not unexpected.

Super cozy place with amazing owner and staff. Huge range to choose from beer to ciders also lots off spirit drinks too, unfortunately do not do food there, but you have busy mill street just round corner where you can found lots off food offers and come here for chill and relax drink 🤓👍

It's back! My first visit since this place reopened and I loved it. A bit of TLC has really improved the place, but in a way that has kept all of its charm. Very decent beer selection and a lovely atmosphere...now with added music at just the right volume. A fantastic return to the Mill Road scene.

After reopening under fabulous management there isnt much I can say about the live apart from it is FANTASTIC. The team are amazing, the atmosphere always welcoming and the beer always superb.

One of, if not the most welcoming pub in Cambridge just like its name suggests. Lovely wooden interior, heated by a wooden fireplace, renders the place magical. It brought me back to a nostalgic memory of my youth in an 'osteria' within the depths of the north-eastern Italian alps! I JUST LOVE IT!!!

Great local boozer. Friendly welcome. I was on my own visiting Cambridge and had a nice evening here by the wood burner. I overheard that the place had new management. The new manager seems a cool lady, she's clearly a fabulous publican. Dogs welcome. Good choice of beers and ciders.

Now under new management as of March 2022. The new team are doing a great job with the pub. The vast rum selection is gone and the pub feels lighter and more airy with flowers on tables and a spruce up. Great selection of ales and beers and other drinks. It can get busy at times so have some consideration for the hard working bar staff and I do wish that people wouldn’t insist on trying to stand and drink at the bar during these busy spells when people are jostling to order drinks. I think they do it to prove they are locals or regulars or whatever! Anyway, make sure you call in for a drink at ‘the Live’ if you can, and make some time to tell the new team what a great job they are doing with taking over such a well known pub.

Cute, cozy & comfy but the real star is the water here — when you pour cream in your coffee, the acidic water from this pub’s taps turn the cream into a paisley pattern of great intricacy. We watched stoned kids pouring cream into cup after cup of coffee, watching the patterns develop, giggling and drinking none of it after I shared this unique property with a friend. They overheard and a new tradition was born. Also, lovely staff and punters alike make this a relaxing pub anytime.

The triple cooked chips were insanely good. Great ale.

A great pub on a side street serving great ale and cider also and fantastic choice of rums, the wood paneled and train remembebila is nice, a pub worth seeking out, also they serve lovely scotch eggs and sausage rolls.

This is a wonderful local pub. Off the beaten track and away from the centre but well worth a visit. It's very rustic but with an authentic feel and a friendly local crowd. A modest but good beer selection and reasonable proximity to the station makes the Live and let Live an essential stop. The only reason I've not rated it 5 stars is that it can be sadly quiet at times.

Expected some decent Real Ales but was very disappointed

One of the most unique pubs in Cambridge. Not for everyone's taste, but if you are after travelling in time, feeling you are in a small quiet village and like a nice ale, then this place is for you.
