I love to stop at this little cafe when walking the dog. Great coffee , cake and a ‘pup cup’ for a happy puppy! However, the opening times on Google search don't match their actual times. I have visited twice in the last few weeks…. today, Thursday at 12.30pm and previously at 4.15pm on a Wed. Both times they were closed🤷♀️ despite google saying open 8am-5pm Wed-Sun. Puppy disappointment was off the scale!!😂.

We arrived about 1pm and took pictures of the menu. We selected what we wanted and went up to order at 1:20pm only to be told they had no food apart from vegan sausage roll and a bacon something. How can you run out of food so early? I was so looking forward to visiting but a waste of time. The lady would have seen me taking pictures and also said to the lady 2 of our party wanted the toilet so when they would come back we would order. No mention of a lack of food and the menu board was not amended at all. Sadly we were forced to go elsewhere..

Popped in for a quiet lunch whilst the children were at school on what was a glorious sunny day. The area is beautiful with stunning views from the river really a hive of activity lots going on. Unfortunately the day we visited was the day they were revising the menu however that didn't cause issues for us. The food was ok but a little on the small size. That said the scenes make up for all that.

I so want to love it here but I asked for a cappuccino with no chocolate and was told that that's a frothy latte. I'm pretty sure it isn't and let it go but as I continued my walk I had been served a latte. I don't like latte so tipped it away. I cappuccino really isn't a latte with froth. If it can't be made maybe take it off the menu.

Absolute gem of a place. I visit The Little Old Toll House whenever I can as the lattes and chai lattes are amazing (all the drinks are yummy as my daughter loves the milkshakes too), the sausage rolls are my favourite and the pies are my partners favourite. The service is brilliant and the atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. Come rain or shine this place is great to visit. It now has under cover seating so you can go whatever the weather. There is no parking down the lock but there is a car park further up along from Allington Castle where you can leave the car and take a nice stroll down. It’s an ideal place for cyclists, runners, walkers, boaters and canoeists! A little something for everyone. I can honestly say it is one of my favourite places in my local area. We are very lucky to have this in walking distance. Definitely worth a visit.

Awful drinks - don’t know how to make a chai latte and the coffee tasted disgusting. The pastries and sausage rolls tasteless. It’s a very cute place but please try a bit harder on the drinks as they aren’t cheap. Will give it another go in the future hopefully by then it’s better. I’ve read past reviews saying nothing is made on site - understandably .. but you can find cheap coffee and pastries that are better than what we had.

I've been coming here for a couple years now. My favourite thing to do is walk along the river and get a drink at the toll house. Staff are very friendly and you can tell it's popular with locals: especially ramblers, cyclists and dog walkers. They make a surprising amount of food and drink options considering their size: many teas, cakes, pastries, coffees and more, with plenty of gluten free and vegan options too. Love their eco ethos and using local suppliers. It's lovely to see their growth and success. Only criticism is that it would be great if they would add sandwiches to their menu but pastries are also nice.

Really disappointed with the manager lady. I was a regular customer here however one Sunday, i had nice cups of coffee with my husband. Afterwards, we ordered two hot chocolates for takeaway to my children at home. The cream on hot chocolate were melting so i asked for 2 big paper cups to put the hot chocolates in. However, the lady with the glasses (manager) shouted at me saying ' YOU ASKED FOR KIDS HOT CHOCOLATE!' with an angry attitude. Then proceeded to get 1 cup and slammed it on the counter. I was completely taken aback because i was not expecting this attitude as a paying customer. I left as i didnt want to create a commotion and was in shock. Later, i wrote a review on facebook. i was given a number to call. When i called, instead of a genuine apology, the manager expressed her displease in me writing bad review on facebook and said i must have done it to get a freebie otherwise i wouldnt have wasted my time and energy to write such a review. Then she also said it was the 35 degree heat that made her short tempered and i made her wait long to get my hot chocolates etc. i am deeply disappointed in how the manager behaved towards me and handled the whole situation. I have no idea what i did wrong. whenever i went here, i always paid. i always picked up my own litter. never made a mess. I have always eaten out in restaurants and cafes and this is the first time in my life, i got shouted at by staff (a manager nonetheless). Later i found out i was blocked on facebook (perhaps to delete my feedback). i dont have problem with being blocked. However, i dont think a good manager will behave in such a way. Not a good customer experience at all.

I've visited The Little Old Toll House a few times now, I only discovered it last year and it's such a beautiful, tranquil place to stop, enjoy a drink, cake, lunch and just take in the stunning location right on the Lock. I've always received a warm, friendly welcome and service is brilliant.Their menu is perfect, a bit of lush for everyone, a friend of mine is Vegan so she often comes with me. There's always something extra special on the menu, like lemon poppyseed scone, (or is it brioche, I can't quite remember but oh so tasty) - served warm with clotted cream and home made jam, see picture... Chocolate cake is sometimes Orange Chocolate Cake, Hot sausage panini often has caramelised onion with it... You get the idea, T.L.O.T.L goes the extra mile.... And the menu changes with the season. Always relaxed, never rushed. Pop along and watch the world go by... :) 10/10 from me!!

Such a shame. Really liked the interior. Waitress was friendly and attentive and overall entering this place held lots of promise. Ordered the scampi and some bread rolls to start and the scampi tasted light and the tartar sauce was very tasty. The bread rolls came with butter and olive oil/balsamic. The rolls were fresh and the olive oil had a nice grassy taste. For mains we ordered two cajun chickens with half the cajun seasoning, the salmon and the seafood linguine. The chicken skin was a bit flabby and it tasted bland which may be partly due to the half seasoning but also the chicken lacked flavour. The chips were very nice but under seasoned. The seafood linguine had good flavour but the portion size was huge so the rich and creamy sauce became hard work due to the quantity. It was a shame because the seafood was cooked well and the baccus wine I had really cut through the creamy sauce but it was just too much. The salmon however was a disaster. The salmon had a pesto sauce which was not described on the menu, it came with sautéed potatoes which would not have been a problem but the menu said new potatoes which in every other place I've eaten means boiled new potatoes and the veg came up as a sort ratatouille type veg (it wasn't but it was a medley of cooked down veg) when the menu discribed mixed veg. There was also some sort of carrot puree which took up a quarter of the plate. And again a huge amount of food. The sautéed potatoes were over salty and not edible. At least half the plate was left and when the waitress was told that the food wasn't edible nothing was done. We pointed out this when the bill arrived and they took £6 off the bill which I assume was their assumed cost of the potatoes. Its a shame as this is in a lovely location and has potential to be a lovely fish restaurant but it needs a menu that accurately describes the food and if there are changes then a waiting staff that informs their customers. I also think there is work to do for the chef as the salmon dish looked like it had been chucked on the player while the salad for the chicken had been laid out piece by piece. There is also work to do on portion control which would also help the profitability of the business. Hopefully things will change as a good fish restaurant is a fine thing to have locally.
