The Lion At Basford in Nottingham

Refused to serve me food even though I was at the bar!!! "You've only got 5 mins" without a table, none available finally got one then had to re que then said "I'd left it to long even though the same guy had seen me waiting and new what I needed. I am diabetic!! So was very difficult for me RUINED my evening thanks a lot!!

The lion was renowned for being the best rock and roll soul venue of the midlands , good ale brilliant atmosphere, I'm really sorry to say it's become a geriatric ward with old women same old women every week since I've been coming , where one and others have had enough of this poor atmosphere poor venue bands which look bored , I'm sorry lion you need to look at your self , it won't be long before you put up a sign saying your closed please please save your selfs this great pub is at its knees , your geriatric crowd will no longer be there , just think on this pub was full to the rafters on a Friday and Saturday night people from all over Nottingham came just think on

Fantastic local pub with great atmosphere, friendly staff, nice clientele. First Sunday of every month there is a jazz act from 1:30-3:30pm and every Friday and Saturday from 9pm there is live music - featuring some fantastic cover bands. There is also a pub quiz, food and craft beers and ciders available! Highly recommend, especially the music events.

Had an amazing time here with friends watching the regular band, Area 51. Fab little local pub. Easy to get to, easily accessible on the tram, just depart at Shipstone Street.

First time visiting for the Harry Potter quiz they had. Lovely quaint pub with good food and good cocktails, will defo be returning

Well worth finding if you're in the city. A short tram ride and a two minute walk, if you remember to push the bell on the tram.

Laid back city pub with Victorian features. Good range of burgers etc including some good meat, vegetarian and vegan options. Huge range of drinks. Dog friendly. LBGT etc friendly, builder friendly.

We love the Lion, the beer is impeccably kept and there are lots of real ales. The food is good and very popular. There are regular quizzes and live music at the weekends. The pub attracts a diverse customer base, a real social mix of ages and background and I think this adds to the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It's also very much a dog pub, there are dog beds available and dog snacks too. I thoroughly recommend a visit to The Lion.

The Lion has a welcoming atmosphere and a good variety of beers for reasonable prices. The outdoor seating section is spacious. The food was unfortunately not fantastic. The wrap was OK but not worth the price. I'll let others decide whether the amount of fries was deserving of paying an extra £1.50.

Fantastic pub. Good beer, good food, good people. There's a good sized beer garden although getting a seat inside can be a bit tricky. Plenty of live events throughout the year. Very much oet friendly. Easy to get to with a tram stop right across the road

Great venue for live music food was great. I had a fantastic night celebrating a friends 40th birthday. Would highly recommend for a good night out.

It's a lovely pub, has lots of board games, is quite spacious, the toilets are very clean (you have no idea how many pubs are excellent until you go to the toilets)., there is often live music ,Great selection of beers and the food is delicious and comes quite quickly. Had a burger and it was one of the best I've ever had.

Gorgeous boozer with an amazing selection of cask and craft beers. The staff are tremendously knowledgeable and helpful. Lovely burger, too, which arrived quickly and was very tasty.

I went here with 3 friends and it was fantastic. Everyone was enthusiastic and the service, even though there was a lot to do, was very nice. Always happy.

We visited today: both myself & husband ordered festive burgers (chicken with brie) served with roasties & gravy. Absolutely delicious! Very welcoming to our little pooch as well: fabulous pub, will go for another festive burger before Christmas 🎄

One of the best pubs in Nottingham. Superb craft beer range that is constantly refreshed; excellent beer garden and really eclectic range of weekly entertainment. Couldn't recommend it more!

Splendid choice of real ale and cider. Other drinks are available. Food freshly cooked. The Lion also supports live music.

Had to leave after an hour with breathing problems ( allergic asthma ). Nine assorted dogs cavorting in main bar area. Gutted ; have been drinking in here for years. Bring back Teresa !

The Lion is our local, it's a proper pub with friendly atmosphere. It's won dog friendly pub of the year The food menu focuses on burgers, a great range to suit all tastes and diets. Has live music on Fri Sat and Sun. Real ales and ciders, brilliant outdoor space considering the urban location. Easy to get to on the tram (Shipstone Street stop) and next door to Black Iris Brewery

Amazing pub, there is often live music. Great selection of beers and ales too. Food is delicious and comes quite fast, not massive portions but just enough to feel full and satisfied. Had a burger and it was one of the best I've ever had. Recommended

Mixed review. We had the Nachos and Cod and Crab cakes to start , they were served hot and were delicious. Went downhill with the Burgers. They are so small and very gritty, almost as if something had been added to the mince to make it go further. The onion rings were so greasy, I definitely couldn't eat mine. The server who took them away agreed with me and said she would tell the Chef. She did offer us a drink on the house. Not good enough. We barely touched our food and should have been given a refund. Such a shame. It used to be a great Pub. Very telling that the place was practically empty on a Friday evening. Sorry guys, but you need to up your game.

I had high hopes for this pub, I enquired for a birthday gathering, but bar staff and manager were quite stand offish and being difficult. I felt like I wasn’t wanted there! This was later confirmed when I emailed about the booking and got no reply back. Shame as I really as I liked the decore and beer! Did leave after one pint feeling rubbish as no other pubs like this in the area treat people like myself in this manor! Very disappointing!

Super dog friendly, good tap selection. We did not have food but I will certainly be back to try the food. Toilets could do with an update. Very friendly and welcoming pub highly recomend

Fuming let a family of 6 spent over £100 to be told all kids have to sit from 6 -830 cuz they sell food. Then sell food to people inside !!

Went here to see a band that my mate knew. I'd only been here once, during lockdown when everyone was forced to sit outside, and I'd been itching to go back since (the beer garden is EXCELLENT but I like the cosiness of a pub indoors as well). The only pub I've been to with a well 😂, this seemed to be used as extra seating and as a place to rest one's beer during the gig. It's a beautiful pub, has lots of board games, is quite roomy, the toilets are very clean (you've no idea how many pubs are excellent until you go into the toilets). We ordered some food, which is reasonably priced. We couldn't find food service info online so I've included pictures of the menu, which also includes the service times. We wanted the nachos, but they were off the menu. So asked for loaded fries but couldn't have our first and second choices. It turned out they either had no cheese or didn't have the facilities to offer melted cheese - to be fair, this was at 8:45pm on a Saturday night and they only do roast dinners on Sundays, so perhaps they'd just run down their supplies until they would be replenished on Monday. We had the Mexican hot fries and they were very good. My only criticism is that the tables are insanely sticky. We were told this was down to the sanitiser that is used, but they were sticky to the point that we couldn't put anything on them - no phones, no arms - and when we used the Nottingham Drinker magazine so we could put things on the table, it took the paper off the magazine when we lifted it off the table. Surely that isn't right. Anyway: amazing pub, if you haven't been then go, go, go!

Nice relaxing inside and out some foods could have bit more taste but always done well .

Gents has a very strong smell of urine. Female bar member either serves her mates first or just ignores you. We left. Shame. Went 50 metres down the hill to micro pub. Much better service. Won't return to the lion to be ignored. Burgers overdone last time we ate there.

Great pub with probably the most friendliest staff and locals, bearing in mind I'm from Nottingham but now live in Manchester. This is how most pubs are here up north, but this pub certainly stood out as a classic everyone welcome place and warmed my heart to be amongst the true locals. Great seating indoor and outdoor. Get down there for a pint 👌🏽 didn't get any scran but I bet its decent.

Cannot give a score for food as not yet eaten there, although the food passing me looked very appetizing. The reason for being there was to listen to a band, and the atmosphere was very good, the locals are friendly, and the bar staff are also welcoming. Only down point is because only one part of the bar serves drink, it can take a while to get served, when busy.

Fabulously friendly and comfy pub for both humans and dogs :D, with regular events and live music. Limited food options but great outdoors space and a brand range of well kept ales/stouts, lagers and cider.

Fabulously kept pub, clean, in a lovely oldy worldy decor. Super range of real ales, comfortable seating, menu nice and food 1st class. They also own the White Lion at Swingate in Kimberley, that is also fantastic real ales and live entertainmemt. Would recommend and also look down into the cellar from bar area !
