Fantastic pub, great food, friendly staff and good atmosphere 👍

Mixed review. We had the Nachos and Cod and Crab cakes to start , they were served hot and were delicious. Went downhill with the Burgers. They are so small and very gritty, almost as if something had been added to the mince to make it go further. The onion rings were so greasy, I definitely couldn't eat mine. The server who took them away agreed with me and said she would tell the Chef. She did offer us a drink on the house. Not good enough. We barely touched our food and should have been given a refund. Such a shame. It used to be a great Pub. Very telling that the place was practically empty on a Friday evening. Sorry guys, but you need to up your game.

I had high hopes for this pub, I enquired for a birthday gathering, but bar staff and manager were quite stand offish and being difficult. I felt like I wasn’t wanted there! This was later confirmed when I emailed about the booking and got no reply back. Shame as I really as I liked the decore and beer! Did leave after one pint feeling rubbish as no other pubs like this in the area treat people like myself in this manor! Very disappointing!

Wide variety of beers and ciders (not big on traditional beers though). Dog friendly. Has everyone accepted vibe. Never any trouble.

Excellent selection of Real Ale and a great choice of food. There's plenty of space in the beer garden, probably the best in Nottingham.

Super dog friendly, good tap selection. We did not have food but I will certainly be back to try the food. Toilets could do with an update. Very friendly and welcoming pub highly recomend

Fuming let a family of 6 spent over £100 to be told all kids have to sit from 6 -830 cuz they sell food. Then sell food to people inside !!

I only went in to meet some friends, but the atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was good overall, though it's a nice place

Went here to see a band that my mate knew. I'd only been here once, during lockdown when everyone was forced to sit outside, and I'd been itching to go back since (the beer garden is EXCELLENT but I like the cosiness of a pub indoors as well). The only pub I've been to with a well 😂, this seemed to be used as extra seating and as a place to rest one's beer during the gig. It's a beautiful pub, has lots of board games, is quite roomy, the toilets are very clean (you've no idea how many pubs are excellent until you go into the toilets). We ordered some food, which is reasonably priced. We couldn't find food service info online so I've included pictures of the menu, which also includes the service times. We wanted the nachos, but they were off the menu. So asked for loaded fries but couldn't have our first and second choices. It turned out they either had no cheese or didn't have the facilities to offer melted cheese - to be fair, this was at 8:45pm on a Saturday night and they only do roast dinners on Sundays, so perhaps they'd just run down their supplies until they would be replenished on Monday. We had the Mexican hot fries and they were very good. My only criticism is that the tables are insanely sticky. We were told this was down to the sanitiser that is used, but they were sticky to the point that we couldn't put anything on them - no phones, no arms - and when we used the Nottingham Drinker magazine so we could put things on the table, it took the paper off the magazine when we lifted it off the table. Surely that isn't right. Anyway: amazing pub, if you haven't been then go, go, go!

The Lion has a welcoming atmosphere and a good variety of beers for reasonable prices. The outdoor seating section is spacious. The food was unfortunately not fantastic. The wrap was OK but not worth the price. I'll let others decide whether the amount of fries was deserving of paying an extra £1.50.

Lovely people, great selection of excellent beers, nice food and great beer garden. Update Dec '23: still one of the best pubs in Notts. Update July '24: as above.

Nice relaxing inside and out some foods could have bit more taste but always done well .

Burgers are amazing, great selection of beers too, fantastic local.

By food, I mean beer. There's a regularly changing line up and it's well kept and the bar service is prompt and friendly.

Great little pub, went yesterday afternoon. Super dog friendly and nice beers, neck oil great according to the lads. Nice food too.

Gents has a very strong smell of urine. Female bar member either serves her mates first or just ignores you. We left. Shame. Went 50 metres down the hill to micro pub. Much better service. Won't return to the lion to be ignored. Burgers overdone last time we ate there.

Great pub with probably the most friendliest staff and locals, bearing in mind I'm from Nottingham but now live in Manchester. This is how most pubs are here up north, but this pub certainly stood out as a classic everyone welcome place and warmed my heart to be amongst the true locals. Great seating indoor and outdoor. Get down there for a pint 👌🏽 didn't get any scran but I bet its decent.

Cannot give a score for food as not yet eaten there, although the food passing me looked very appetizing. The reason for being there was to listen to a band, and the atmosphere was very good, the locals are friendly, and the bar staff are also welcoming. Only down point is because only one part of the bar serves drink, it can take a while to get served, when busy.

Fabulously friendly and comfy pub for both humans and dogs :D, with regular events and live music. Limited food options but great outdoors space and a brand range of well kept ales/stouts, lagers and cider.

Fabulously kept pub, clean, in a lovely oldy worldy decor. Super range of real ales, comfortable seating, menu nice and food 1st class. They also own the White Lion at Swingate in Kimberley, that is also fantastic real ales and live entertainmemt. Would recommend and also look down into the cellar from bar area !

I have loved this pub for years. Great range of beers, pub food ,live music and a cosy atmosphere. The outside area has been vastly improved recently. A good place to catch up with old friends.

Every time I've been there's good staff. Good food too, and very dog friendly. Lovely.

The place felt just right atmosphere wise. We arrived at just before midday and there were a few people waiting outside for the place to open. Plenty of outside tables and seating and likewise indoors. The food was very tasty and plentiful. The service was very reasonable considering the food was cooked fresh and the staff were friendly and polite. We don't live in the area but would definitely go again if we are ever in the area.

A very good place with nice people present and a dog friendly pub. Their food is 100% fresh and excellent. The only reason I have given them 4 stars is because I had to wait 40 minutes for my food however they was very busy when I was there.

Large, spacious pub selling lots and lots of ale. Plenty of seating inside and out. Friendly and knowledgeable staff who were very helpful. Also serves food. Does allow stop overs but phone ahead as carpark isn’t huge . It also has a slight slope but it didn’t bother me for the one night. Hosts live music acts.Also has 16 bit emulators to have a blast from the past! Highly recommended 🚐 🍻 🦁 👾🎤🎸

Cracking place. Excellent ales, food great at a great price. The staff are just brilliant and can't do enough to make a visit worthwhile. I'm glad all pubs aren't like this, as it really stands out as being a gem and worth travelling to. Even the tram stops right outside!

Disabled access blocked by beer barrels and the band they had playing. Partner asked about access and bar staff were not interested in making provision. Struggled up 2 steps with assistance from other patrons, embarrassing and demeaning. Do not recommend as I was essentially denied access to maintain my dignity. -5 stars if I could. Breach of equality act 2010, should be shut down.

Lion is one of my fave pubs. In the middle of an industrial estate in Basford you wouldn't expect it to be so nice and full of lovely people. Huge beer garden, lovely food, and staff are great. Decent selection of bands play here on a regular basis too, a must for any beer/music lover in notts

Great place and super food and ales outside seating and one of the most welcoming of dog friendly pubs we have been to. Even has a dog feeding station.

'Beautiful pub . Amazing staff extremely friendly, warm and welcoming. The pub and toilets were spotless. Sadly I didn't get the time to sample any of the mouthwatering dishes available but rest assured I will be returning to do just that and obviously I will edit my review accordingly . This public house is certainly worth a visit.

This is one of the best pubs In Nottingham! It has a great atmosphere and amazing service with frequent checkbacks and fast bar service. The food is top tier, the Sunday roasts are so moreish and are huge portions, they also have tapas which are super yummy, the hash browns, breaded jalapeños, king prawns and mozzarella sticks. Altogether this is a really Homely pub that do a variety of entertainment throughout the week aswell as good food and amazing service, would recommend to family and friends. They even have a console you can game on and an old well which you can look down and see the bottom, really cool for family's and kids!

Used to be great a place to go but since it's changed landlord the music and the atmosphere have gone down hill, Saturdays used to be rocking but the acts are now all cheap and old fashioned and only play very old rock music. They only have burgers for their bar foods and they're quite pricy, but luckily the beer is still good

This was a new place for me but visited with family and friends who raved about it. I was not disappointed. Friendly bar staff, good choice of beers and wines. Amazing food reasonably priced. Dog friendly. Great beer garden on different levels. A little gem of a place. Will visit again.

11 handpumps, not all working all the time, but that don't matter when the ale is good all the time. Great food menu with live music at the weekend. Cozy as well. Outside garden with seats. Tram stops are close. Wheelchair, dog, in fact everybody friendly welcoming pub. Update, the staff are wonderful, nothing is to much trouble. The pub keeps getting better and better.

If you want a dirty burger, this is your place. Something for everyone: chicken, beef, veggie, vegan and all the trimmings: fried onions, coleslaw, sweet potato fries and twenty million craft beer choices, all with a rocky soundtrack.

Went in for one pint because of driving. What a selection there is ….. real ale , real cider. So much to choose from. Fantastic beer garden . Dog friendly. Easily the best pub in Nottingham.

Great pub! Like an oasis of calm near the City! We sat outside in the sunshine yesterday, lots of room and lots of tables with umbrellas. We’ll be back! Looks like an interesting line up of entertainment too!

Have to say, best burgers I've had in a long time. Whole family loved em. Also, tremendous range of excellent beers served by friendly and super efficient staff. Why aren't all pubs this good?

They've got a mini snes and mini sega! Ahhh! The ales are bangin' aswell, always got a nice sour in.
