We had to make a few changes to our booking due to family illness. The staff were very understanding, flexible, and empathetic. Thank you. This meant so much. The restaurant is a wee bit out of the city but easy to get to with a tram stop a short 3 minute walk away. We received a warm welcome and a lovely introduction to the history of the boat. We booked a table for pre- dinner drinks. The seating arrangements seemed a bit of an add-on and weren't in a separate area. The noise from the change over between afternoon tea and early dinner didn't quite create the atmosphere we were hoping for. Some background music may have helped. The star of the show was the food. Every dish was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Smoked salmon and beetroot and goats cheese to start. Beef and venison were cooked to perfection. Chocolate and petite feurs were ok. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout. The Fingals gin was really good, and bottles could be purchased on site. No firm dress code, so come as casual or as glamorous as you choose, although this may be different later on.

Amazing breakfast while staying aboard the Fingal last Christmas. The restaurant is beautiful and the service is top notch. We also had a cocktail here the night before. The boat itself is truly special and I highly recommend coming here to see what it’s all about.

Top 5 Ever, not hyperbole. For context, over the decades we have eaten our way around Europe and across North America in establishments from 3-star Michelin to local Cafes. The dinner we experienced at this restaurant was definitely one of the best we've ever had. What made it so special? Let's start with the service - impeccable yet still fun and engaging. Now the food. The depth of flavour in ALL the dishes, the presentation of ALL the dishes and the little extra touches of "surprise flavour undertones" was mind-blowing. The Red Deer starter was actually indescribable. Tender, a tiny bit of spice and a tiny bit of sweet. Perfection. The Duck (one of my favorite items on any menu) was in season, was cooked to M.R. perfection. Tender, with easy cut skin. The vegetarian tortellini (ordered although neither of us are vegetarian) was brilliant. They take 3 days(!) to make the sauce just right. As a side, The smoky mashed potatoes are a must if they're available. All this created in a small galley kitchen on a ship. Gluten and dairy free was ZERO problem for the chef. The Negroni and the rose cocktail just completed the evening.

We came by pure chance, to fill our last hours in Edinburgh before our flight. We were very well received, the place is very beautiful and well-kept. We only came to have a drink: the menu is well stocked, the drinks are generally quite expensive (but this is linked to the standing of the restaurant) except the beers which are very decent. The setting is beautiful and calm, relaxing to sip your cocktail. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We recommend!

I just wanted to write a quick review about how incredibly friendly, polite and professional the restaurant staff are. We arrived around 5:30 for a 6:00 dinner reservation with two kids. We came straight from the Britannica so we arrived a bit early on accident. They did not sneer at us or roll their eyes for bringing in two kids to a fancy restaurant before they were open, instead they seated us in a cozy couch area where we had drinks and snacks. When it was 6:00 they let us transition right to a table. The drinks were delicious and the food was good too. They even had a kids menu which we appreciated. Thank you for making 4 Americans feel like part of the family ♥️

This was the last meal of our trip after our two week holiday in Scotland. We were also spending the night on the Fingal as well. Made reservations well in advance and everything about this dining experience was superb. The cocktail menu was extensive and we eagerly ordered different ones to share with the table. The 2-3 course menu was very easy to choose something that everyone liked and our group as a whole thought their meal incredible. Desert was just has grand. Our servers were equally stellar and I wish that I could remember all of their names (next time I'm bringing a notepad). If you're staying on the Fingal or just looking for a elegant option onboard a beautiful ship, this should be your choice!

We went rather spontaneously on a decadent date here prior to visiting the Royal Yacht Brittania. Upon entering the boat, we received a lovely welcome and were invited to admire the rest of the boat. The ballroom, which looked pretty but rather brown on photos, is stunning in person. The engine room downstairs, which is viewable via a glass hallway, is very interesting and a lovely detail. Upon arriving at the tea room, we had a bit of a muddled appointment as we were told that they expected us 45min earlier, but according to our booking we were on time. They nevertheless had a table available. There are plenty of tea options and we loved the Fingal Afternoon Tea Blend. The amuse-bouche was a delicious soup that arrived in a small cup. After that we received the savoury stand. We loved every single thing on it but our favourite was the arancini, it was crispy on the outside and had a very smooth filling on the inside. We only received the sweet stand upon finishing the savoury stand, so if you like to eat the other way around or mix and match you probably have to request that, as we were not informed of the order up front. We did, however, love it this way. The sweet stand was really good as well. The scones were the best part with a thick clotted cream and intense strawberry jam. We were informed they were still warm, therefore we started with them. Upon finishing both stands, we were very full, it took us just over an hour from arrival. The bill took a moment to arrive as there was an issue on the table next to us. As an added note, we tried the afternoon tea at the Balmoral Hotel a few weeks later and we have to say that the Fingal afternoon Tea was significantly better (and the balmoral one was already really good). If you have to choose between the two, go to the Fingal. From the Fingal it takes around 10min to get to the royal yacht brittania. The tearoom there can not be booked in advance and is more like a café it seems; tea at the fingal was a luxurious experience that complimented the visit to the brittania well. The day we went it was rather windy and as the boat is on a wet dock, we could lightly feel it rock back and fourth. If you know you are easily seasick, don’t go on windy days. The cups and food stands are heavy and did not get affected by the movements. We thoroughly enjoyed afternoon tea here and will make sure to return for dinner at some stage. We are almost sad to be local, as we would love to experience an overnight stay on the boat but wouldn’t want to spend so much money when home is nearby.

Stepping onto Fingal feels like stepping into another world and The Lighthouse Restaurant was a great extension of that experience. The staff are exceptional, taking great care of us during the dinner. We had 3 courses and I can't pick a favourite because they were all delicious. The seasonal asparagus definitely was a highlight. We did get to meet the Head Chef as well who explained where all ingredients were sourced which made the experience extra special. This is definitely a restaurant for an occasion but it is still reasonably priced for the fine dining experience you have. The views from the deck make it all that much more special with the lights sparkling on the water (great photo opportunity!). Don't miss to see the engine room while you're there. 100% recommend.

Fantastic birthday dinner for my partner. We arrived early and got to look around the ship, which was great. Very accommodating to our 4 year old daughter who got her own meal which she later said was the 'best meal ever'. Delicious food, good portions, great cocktail list and lovely atmosphere but best of all was the service. A must visit in Edinburgh and we will definitely be back (along with said little girl who makes a tough customer 😂). Thank you for the hospitality!

The atmosphere is good. Eating on the boat is special, but most people go for afternoon tea. This time I went to experience the dinner steak. Some of my friends in the same group ordered the beef stew which was not very delicious, but I recommend the sauce on the venison steak I ordered. It tastes great with medium-rare venison. The alcohol in the cocktail is quite heavy and the price is very expensive. Overall, I don’t recommend it so much. If it’s a birthday party, I’ll consider it again.

Afternoon Tea on Fingal is an experience unlike any other. The attention to detail and the quality of food is fantastic. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. So many different tastes on each tier and each as good as the last one. We were defeated and could not manage the last 3 desserts and so took them home in a beautiful box. Its expensive compared to some other afternoon teas but for a special experience its worth it.

One of the best meals I've ever had. The food is all gorgeous. I also love the portions. Just enough that you're feeling satisfied but not so much you are bloated. Every course was a winner but I have to say the smoked salmon starter was the breakaway pop hit of the night! I love that coffee is served with petit four. Such a lovely touch. But the real winner is the phenomenal friendly service you receive from the minute you walk in the door right through to leaving. We were served by Elise J who was warm, charming and couldn't do enough. To be honest, all the staff just seem to like their job and make the experience in such a beautiful restaurant. The manager went around to speak to every table too. Will definitely be back. Thank you for making a wee celebration for a good friend such a special night!

I had afternoon tea with my friend as a birthday treat, firstly the service was excellent and instantly when you enter the boat it feels classy and luxurious. The food was outstanding to say the least!!!!! EVERY mouthful of all the savoury items were bursting with flavour and tasted amazing. I don’t eat broccoli and 2 items had this in it and it was delicious and I would eat it again. The desserts and scones were extremely fresh, soft and beautiful. I can’t recommend this experience enough!! Overall the best afternoon tea I have had. Also worth mentioning that the cost of the afternoon and the amount of food and top class service you receive, I would say you get complete value for your money. My friend likes all the items on the afternoon tea menu however myself on the other hand is fussy with salmon, cheese etc but the chef accommodated me and swapped my items for an alternative as I let them know with prior notice which meant I could enjoy the experience to the fullest. 10/10

I can't fault the service, the team were unreal and really hospitable, not to mention the stunning cabins! However the food is below average and when mentioned to the waiter that our chicken and deer was dry and overcooked there was no attempt in rectifying this by offer another dish. We both didn't eat our mains and were still charged the full price of £30 per main.

I have been wanting to try Pulse for a while now. Had a hard time choosing what to have for lunch because everything sounded great. I had the mushroom and zucchini french toast and a banana mini muffin. It was delicious. Everything is vegan / plant-based which makes me extremely happy. The service was one of the best I've had in Edinburgh, everyone was so kind. The location is perfect, right off Princes Street but tucked away below, with the church, graveyard and Edinburgh castle in view. Just a heads-up that they're only open Thursday to Sunday (reason why I haven't been able to try it until now). As a plus: the lovely complex where Pulse is also has a Fairtrade shop, another cafe and a bookshop.
