I rarely leave reviews, and I genuinely feel bad about leaving this one, especially as it’s a small business. However, a group of us chose this restaurant today based on it being dog friendly and because it has great reviews on Google and TripAdvisor. However, we all felt that the food was “incomplete” and overpriced, representing quite poor value for money. £34 for two crab sandwiches, one tea, and one coffee. The crab sandwiches were just that: crab, sliced bread, butter…with a small pot of basic crisps. At £14, maybe a small side salad, even as garnish, would’ve been the norm anywhere else, or perhaps a bit of coleslaw or seafood sauce. I wish I’d taken a photo, because whilst the crab was nice enough (despite a couple of bits of shell being found in two of our crab fillings) they really didn’t look anything like a £14 sandwich. There were six of us in the group, and everyone felt the same way about their food. We all wished we’d simply bought a pasty from one of the bakeries in town. Maybe we just chose the wrong menu item, because looking at the reviews, most people really seem to like this place.

Called in for coffee, 2 of us and the dog on a Saturday which was very nice but when I was leaving I asked the owner if I could buy a frying pan in Fowey (yes I know) cos we were renting not too far away and I needed a bigger pan to cook with. The owner told me to go to Bodmin or St Austell as they were the nearest OR he would sell me one of his that he had just bought. He showed it to me and it was just what I wanted and it was indeed unused so he sold it to me. Now where else would you get that . Nice café and top man behind the counter.

£18+ for two mugs of tea, a latte, a chocolate and three small cakes. A rip-off. Didn't even have a toilet for customers. I know businesses have to recoup some profit after the last 18 months but this makes the camp site restaurant look cheap.

The vegetarian breakfast was well overpriced at £7 for what it contained. The vegetarian sausage was absolutely awful, only fit to feed to your dog, unless he's fussy. It looked like a highly processed tinned hot dog sausage, completely tasteless and of no nutritional value whatsoever. If you want to impress your customers find another supplier! I will be walking straight passed this cafe next time.

As there were no spaces in the cafe when we first visited, I asked if they did takeaway soup. The owner said he didn't, but then said he could put it in a takeaway coffee cup; so glad he did as it was really tasty - as was the bread he provided with it. We went the next day and were met with the same friendly service and enjoyed the lovely home-made cream scones.

We visited this cafe twice during our stay in Fowey. The first time the food and service were excellent. We were welcomed and checked on regularly- nothing was too much trouble. We learnt that the couple had recently taken over the business and from what we saw were doing an excellent job. Unfortunately, when we visited the next time the waiting staff were not the same - they were in a panic and when served they didn't give any serviette or cutlery. The food was still tasty but there are a few teething problems with service. There are only 4 tables so no excuses. Get the service right and they will have a cracking business.

We often stick to our favourites in Fowey (Pintxo, Brown Sugar, sometimes the Cornish Bakery) but on this occasion we decided to try something new...and wished we hadn’t :( The people were nice enough but the coffee and cake were poor, I’m afraid: the coffee bitter without much taste and the cake dry, as if it were a couple of days old. I don’t think there is any excuse for poor coffee these days, and I don’t understand why businesses don’t understand that good coffee will mean return custom. Really disappointing visit.

To be totally honest here, I always remember a slogan from work. "When we do it right - nobody remembers - when we do it wrong - nobody forgets...We were local, so we thought we would pop in. Either the suppliers to this place are charging the earth for their raw materials. Or (more likely) this is profiteering on an industrial scale. Nearly £11-50 for two teacakes and two coffees. Are you having a laugh? During a two week stay, we frequented many places on a daily basis. None I repeat non charged such extortionate prices. The going rate was approximately 50% less. Yes, you'll probably detect we were on holiday. But, still I object to being royally ripped off. As I always say - you'll get away with it once. But, never again. What swung the 'poor' review for us though. Whoever does the washing probably deserves a P45. To be served coffee with stale marks on the cup after charging these extortinate prices should have a long sit down, and give their heads a good wobble. On the way out, I looked above the door half expecting a sign confirming the owners were direct descendants of Dick Turpin. I just hope visiting tourists get the heads-up with this establishment. And their pricing structure.

Was disappointed with the Lifebuoy, having read positive reviews. The atmosphere felt a little run down and the coffee was disappointing (there was no different between the cappuccino, latte and flat white- all just milky coffee which was OK but definitely could have been better) and even the tea was served already with milk in, which was frustrating for someone who doesn't drink Earl Grey with milk. The only thing I’d prefer to have had is clearer vegan options, I could see it was a small kitchen so there for a small menu, which isn’t bad! We visited The Lifebuoy for breakfast at the end of a recent trip to Polperro, we took the car ferry over to Fowey to have a look around before heading back home, it was much quicker than driving all the way around in December. The cafe was packed when we went in but our order was quickly taken and also quickly arrived considering how busy it was, we had two of the standard cooked breakfasts. I enjoyed the breakfast more than I had enjoyed one for quite a while, the ingredients were really nice, particularly the thick seeded bread which I ordered an extra slice of. The coffee was also really good. The lady who was serving was really friendly and very calm considering she was on her own when there was a sudden rush of custom. The cafe is also interestingly decorated with lots of quirky features and with some Christmas music playing it was a really nice atmosphere in there. The price was as you would expect for a local cafe. A great experience overall and we’d thoroughly recommend.

We called here rather late for a breakfast to be fair, but the owners accommodated us with pleasure. Very nice it was too! They have quite a decent menu at this establishment, quite impressive given it's size. If we visit Fowey again we'll have no hesitation in calling by at the Lifebuoy Cafe...but before 12 noon for breakfast!

Whenever I'm in Fowey, I start the day with the 'Fatbuoy' - the best cooked breakfast in Fowey. This fantastic way to start the day includes hogs pudding, bacon, egg, beans, tea, toast and butter. This small café has an eclectic mix of sailing memorabilia and 50's kitsch. You may need to queue in busy periods - this place is very popular. Afternoon tea and light lunches are also served later in the day.

Popped in on a Sunday morning, after crab fishing with our 2 small children. Really welcoming place, beans on toast for the children, cups of milks (with lids and straws!) and mushrooms on toast for us. Great service, comfortable and a lovely selection of board games/dominoes etc for us to play while we were waiting. We’ll be back

Was working up the road and thought we would pop into town for a Friday breakfast. Life buoy cafe was the first cafe we stumbled across. What a find. Nice English breakfast even with hogs pudding. Will be going back for sure. Highly recommend

I had the crab cakes and my partner had the fish finger sandwich. Both were so good that Cornwall has another Michelin standard competitor. This is a proper old fashioned cafe and yet it serves amazing food. Their bacon sandwiches are soft and lovely. The bacon is not too salty.Small but perfectly formed this place does service how it should be done. You ask for what you want and the staff present it to you. It is a pleasure to eat here.

Had lunch here yesterday on recommendation from guidebook and weren't disappointed. Quirky decor, good music, friendly service and delicious home cooked food. Between us we had the bacon and brie bagel, crab fishcake and falafel and humous wrap and all were sooooo good. Would highly recommend if you are in Fowey. We would definitely return.

Having been badly disappointed by the service (or lack of) at another establishment in Fowey whilst looking for a traditional Cornish Cream Tea we stumbled across the Lifebouy Cafe and were immediately attracted by it's unique quirkiness. The cream tea was amazing with freshly cooked scones and plenty of cream and jam, all served on china that reminded me of tea at my Nan's 45 years ago. The weather outside was yuk but inside the sun was shining brightly. Thank you

Following a day trip to Fowey my wife and i decided on a spot of lunch. On our way down to the front through the small streets we passed this cafe and noticed they did breakfasts and lunch. We have visited Fowey previously and must have walked past this place without even realising it was there. So so glad we noticed and had lunch there. The staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable concerning allergies as my wife has coeliac disease. It may not sound much of a review as we only had the soup with bread and tea for two but it proves how nice it was that i am writing this. The soup of the day was as tasty as could be with fresh bread washed down with a pot of tea which was one of the best we have had away from Sheffield. The cafe is quite small but cosy without everyone being on top of each other. Other patrons ordered sandwiches etc and they looked super also. Well priced and would recommend without hesitation.

What a gem! We had no idea where to go for lunch but chose the shed; a great choice! The steak was so good and the sole cooked to perfection. Great wine, appetisers and dessert to boot. Fantastic value and the service was great Thank you so much.

The staff were friendly, the service was prompt, the food was good. It's about as good as you could hope for from a family friendly restaurant at the price that it is.

Absolutely wonderful visit. The cream tea was the best I think I’ve ever had. Warm scones, huge pot of cream and delicious jam, must be homemade. The tea was piping hot and came with an additional tea bag should you like it strong.
