Thoroughly enjoyed an excellent lunch at the Open Arms. We were seated in the library which was very nice. Varied choice on the menu of Scottish fair. Food was well presented and delicious. The staff were very polite and friendly. It is a very traditional and homely place and a bit different for a special occasion.

We visited with a friend mid week with no booking and the restaurant was very busy. We were asked to sit in one of the beautiful lounges and offered a drink til they prepared our table. In no time at all we were taken through to the restaurant. It has a lovely lunch menu, reasonably priced and the food was terrific. I started with locally sourced smoked chicken salad which was enjoyable indeed. The main l went with was sole with a shrimp and cheese mousse, equally delicious . We all were pleased with what we had and the service was just right, pleasant ladies that were attentive and we had a bit of chat. One slight damper was the failure of their internet that resulted in my card being declined twice for no reason other than poor internet connection. We were with a good friend so we’re not embarrassed but I can imagine how it could have felt in a different situation. Would absolutely visit again happily. Thanks for a lovely visit.

Have been here a number of times for lunch now and the food is very good, ditto the welcome. There is an area where it could be improved, though in the grand scheme of things, it isn't enough to stop me visiting again. Before we had even taken our coats off or even sat down we were being asked what we would like to drink. Please give customers the chance to catch their breath and begin to relax before jumping straight in.It wasn't busy so there was no need for the rush, I actually felt quite hassled.

Very good choices which catered for the four in our party, in fact would need to return to sample all the food we would like to try. Only slight criticism was the side order of vegetables didn’t arrive until we were halfway through our main courses. That apart the service was very efficient and friendly. I booked lunch for 18 people in the Library for my husband's 40th Birthday. During the booking process, the staff were extremely quick at responding to e-mails and everything was organised very well, including place-cards. The Party Menu offers really good value (3 courses plus tea/coffee/mints) and I was able to request a welcome drink for the guests. The food was really excellent (the blade of beef was particularly remarked upon) and the food on the kid's menu was great. The service was good and the staff were friendly, pleasant and great with the kids. It was nice to have a private room so people could chat and move between tables and the decor/atmosphere was relaxing. We will definitely come here again for celebration meals.

This is has been the chosen venue for our church Christmas lunch for a number of years now, and it never disappoints. We always take a big group (around 40 people) and we eat in the marquee room. It is lovely and comfortable and because of the numbers, we get it to ourselves. Its essentially the same food that is served in the library, so I think I'm reviewing it in the right place! We are always well looked after and the food is always spot on. We usually have a a starter and a main, plus coffee and mince pies and the price for that is very reasonable. This year mulled wine was served on arrival - we had a choice of alcoholic or non-alcoholic which was good thinking. This cost us extra, but was no more expensive than an ordinary glass of wine. The menu was varied (and virtually anything could be prepared gluten-free!), and it was all delicious. Many thanks to all the staff for being so good to us and we look forward to joining you again next year.

The Open Arms prides itself on providing locally sourced food at modest prices. With several options for dining, besides the conservatory brasserie restaurant - The Library, for family or group parties, an intimate private dining room as well as a larger 'conference' / wedding room, you should find something to suit your particular needs. Booking is recommended as the brasserie is very popular; serving an extremely good value Early Bird dinner menu, available from 5:30pm for orders placed by 6:30. My (Wiltshire based) family has eaten regularly at The Open Arms for over 40 years. The most recent occasion was for an Early Bird dinner with my elderly father who now lives in a nursing home in Edinburgh. We return here time and again because we have never been disappointed by our choice of food, there is a good range of reasonably priced wines, the whole team are friendly and courteous AND the accessible toilet is just that! Thank you Open Arms. We are already looking forward to our next visit; hopefully next month!

Staff were very friendly and efficient, lunchtime deal of £14.95 for 2 courses was great value, hotel is very nice with comfortable lounges and dining areas. Only slight drawback might be that the food could have been a little more flavoursome. It was very nice but it was as if the chef was holding back the seasoning in the soup and sauces. Probably just our palates being used to a variety of Italian and eastern foods. Would certainly return. (Haggis Wellington starter was very good!)

Being only around forty five minutes from our home we decided to have Christmas Lunch at this beautiful Hotel. We have been before and were always satisfied and certainly were this time.I used to go with my family when I was a young girl and nothing has changed. We had booked the conservatory and were taken to a lovely table at the window after going to the lounge and sat at the roaring log fire perusing the menu having a glass of wine.We both opted for soup of the day - leek and potato, I took the turkey and what a lot on the plate loaded with turkey, stuffing, chipolatas, roast and mashed potatoes and a side plate with three veg.My husband opted for the fish dish and there again his plate was brimming.I must say the service was excellent and food fresh. The decorations every where were well placed out and beautiful real Christmas trees in the lounges etc.We were so full that we both opted for the vanilla ice cream which we thought would be light but there again the glass dish was full to brimming. We then adjourned to the larger lounge and were lucky enough to have a seat again at another roaring fire where coffee and mints were served and I had two grand marnier.Thank you to all the staff. We then took the dog down the track to the beach to work off the meal - he got a good doggy bag out of it as well!!!We then went on to visit many friends and family and had an excellent Christmas Day!!

Booked the Library for my parents' Golden Wedding Anniversary and was not dissappointed. Drinks and canapes is the lounge before the meal and they took our orders at the same time. Once in the library, we had the same waitress, who remembered what we all ordered. Coundn't fault the quality of the food - I had the beef fillet which was a lovely piece of meat. Overall great ambience for a family celebration. Ask for a loyalty card if you are local and go regularly.

Good food choice and lovely wine. The decoration is nice, giving an intimate and luxurious feel. The service was excellent (as always) and it's nice to be able to choose to go up market from their excellent Brasserie for a nice occasion.

Dined in The Library, whilst staying at The Open Arms. Food and service were both fantastic. Really enjoyed the fizz and canapes in the lounge before dinner.

We tried this restaurant on a Friday night without booking, and were lucky to get the last table for 2. The menu was varied, and the starters of smoked venison and smoked salmon were both excellent, and served with good bread. We both had cod in a pesto crust with a coriander risotto to follow, and it was also delicious. Our waitress was very cheery and helpful, and although we were the last people to leave, there was no pressure to vacate the table. I would certainly visit this restaurant again.

Classic British style and atmosphere, very friendly people and mainly great food. Salmon with mashed potatoes was excellent, as well as strawberry desert after. We spent there very nice time, I can totally recommend.

We chose the bistro because the Library has no windows and we had found it overwhelmingly hot and oppressive in the past. The Bistro is situated at the front of the hotel with views over the village green. We were receivede very pleasantly be a waiter and throughout the service was polite. The menu had a good range of choice. Two of us had crabcakes for a starter and I found them stodgy. The crayfisn cocktail went down well with the others. Service was quick, too quick for a comfortable meal out and two of the main courses arrived well ahead of the other two. My tuna steak was rare as I asked but almost cold on the outside; not good. The glasses from our pre-dinner drink remained empty on the table until we asked for them to be removed when the pudding menu came quickly after we had finished our main courses; all too hurried. The staff had no idea who had ordered what so they arrived at the table auctioning the food but I suppose it is only a bistro. All in all, not likely to go back soon.

25 years since I last visited, and not disappointed. The sun shone so we ate outdoors, al fresco from the Brasserie Menu. Excellent, well presented, local produce, faultlessly cooked and superb value. Only praise from all 4 diners for both starters and main courses. Would recommend the Castillo Del Moro 2010 Tempranillo Syrah, which punched well above its weight for the price.

Had lunch here before visiting castle. Food really poor & overpriced. Service slow. Seems to attract large numbers of undiscerning octogenarians. Should have taken a picnic.

We had a delightful lunch at East Coast Musselburgh today, choosing from their set menu. The restaurant is clean, contemporary, and tastefully decorated, which created a welcoming atmosphere. We both started with the mussels in a spicy tomato sauce that also served as a flavorful broth. The sauce had the perfect balance of heat and richness, complementing the fresh mussels. For mains, I opted for the Spaghetti Harbour, which was generously portioned and packed with clams and mussels. The seafood was cooked perfectly, and the dish was hearty yet refined. My wife had the King Prawn Calamari, which was served with a light, perfectly cooked batter, accompanied by crispy skinny fries, a fresh salad, and tartare sauce. She loved the combination of flavors and textures. We washed everything down with a refreshing Leith draught beer, which rounded off our meal perfectly. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and we felt well taken care of throughout our visit. The facilities were well-maintained, including spotless toilets, which is always a good sign. Overall, the meal was excellent value for money, and we left feeling satisfied and eager to return. I highly recommend East Coast for anyone looking for fresh seafood and a great dining experience in Musselburgh.

Went here today for a birthday meal What a total and utter disappointment the quality of the food was very poor. I would have rated it no stars but had to give at least one to continue with the review. The meal I ordered was billed as a triple steak burger, OMG it was awful, when it was served to me the burger was bone dry and very small, over cooked and totally tasteless. There was no burger sauce, (what we were offered was a bottle of ketchup and seriously watered down mayo) there was no onion or cheese only a little piece of stale lettuce and one slice of very thin tomato in the very dry bun. It was listed as being served with rustic chips but I actual found they were nothing more than a handful of frozen skinny fries from a bag. I was charged almost £17 for this which is an absolute disgrace. I've had far better any tastier burgers from McDonald's for a third of the price. My partner had what was billed as peppered chicken which was very poor, served in a skillet which was no deeper than a saucer and it was served without rice which was listed on the menu. The manager came over before it was served and gave her a spoon and we were wondering why you would need a spoon to eat the meal! Then It became apparent when it was served, hardly any chicken and a few bits of pepper and onion and was swimming in some kind of peppered sauce, hence the spoon. This was also priced around £16/17, again ridiculously over priced for what was actually offered. We checked out the menu online before booking a table but when we arrived we were given a totally different menu from what was online. Then to top it all we paid cash and after some time we had to ask for our change from the bill (over £5). When the ki Manager came over he then said "folk normally say just to keep the change " we were Shocked and utterly embarrassed by this comment. What an absolute rip off this place is and we certainly won't be back .
