Oil and balsamic vinegar bottles just plonked on table should be served in dip bowls - I asked waiter if dish I wanted would be covered in a sauce - he convinced me it would’t but it was completed drowned in sauce - not happy!!

Just went for soup but stayed and ate all sorts mussels and fish and the service was great.

It is considered one of the famous restaurants specializing in seafood and the restaurant is classified as one of the best restaurants in Edinburgh. The restaurant also serves Italian dishes. We tried dinner with him and ordered the soup of the day, the seafood basket, and the seafood dish of the day, and the food was really delicious. The negative thing I noticed was the high level of noise, whether music or customers. Its prices are acceptable. Worth a try.

We came as a table of six. The restaurant wasn't too busy but it was very cold. I kept my jacket on for the meal. 4 people had fish and chips and said they were amazing. My mum and I got the fisherman's basket. It was all luke warm and the fries were soggy. The calamari was mainly batter and looked and tasted like frozen calamari. Wouldn't get this dish again.

As always, EC provides a welcome haven, refreshing drinks and great food all served by friendly cheerful staff.

Great little restaurant in Mussleburgh that offers super fresh seafood. We had the lobster, and the mussels.. both dishes were superb and the young waiter was very friendly. Will definitely come back again next time are out this way.

The best takeaway for fish and chips in the area. Nice pieces of large white haddock and the tartare sauce is exceptional. Only downside is parking for me. As a disabled person I struggle to find a spot nearby

Visited en route to Edinburgh as saw a recommendation on a blog for the restaurant having great gluten free food, and was not disappointed. First battered fish & chips I’ve had since becoming GF and it was amazing!!! Such crispy, tempura-like batter, and the fish itself was delicate and tasty. My husband also thoroughly enjoyed his ‘normal’ fish & chips. Rest of the menu looked good and nice cosy atmosphere in the restaurant. Definitely worth a trip to Musselburgh for!!

Absolutely perfect meal! We we were really well looked after and the staff were so attentive with the kids. All the food was great but special mention to the mushy peas which was just great. A real surprise in how much flavour it packed.

We had the most amazing meal at East Coast. 11 of us and no one left hungry! We ordered Seafood platters and they were absolutely out of this world delicious, wine was fabulous, staff were superb, and I can say, with hand on heart, that East Coast is by far, the best seafood restaurant in Scotland! Celebrating three birthdays with a family of ten. This was simply superb. Great service, great place and simply fantastic food. Oysters Rockefeller were divine. Freshest of fish, loads of options for our group from age 5-76. So good. Seriously. Don’t think we’ve had a better “chippy” ever

Outstanding! Second time ordering haddock and cod suppers, I've eaten fish and chips all over Scotland (including some places that were award winners that probably shouldn't have been) and without doubt this is the best fish and chips in Scotland in my opinion. Try it!!!

Wasn't expecting much, but was very surprised, when I walked in nice decor, attentive staff, happy to chat even though we were like a chimps tea party babbling to each other, food was very good, even to the extent that my dad doesn't like garlic, but he wolfed down his prawns like he was expecting someone to steal them, you have won a few new customer.

My friend and I had dinner here and we had a great time! The restaurant is nice and relaxed with ambient lighting.The staff are friendly and the food is amazing! We had baked oysters, crab cakes, and scallop and prawn ravioli. All well presented, all delicious! Highly recommended!!!

We had a delightful lunch at East Coast Musselburgh today, choosing from their set menu. The restaurant is clean, contemporary, and tastefully decorated, which created a welcoming atmosphere. We both started with the mussels in a spicy tomato sauce that also served as a flavorful broth. The sauce had the perfect balance of heat and richness, complementing the fresh mussels. For mains, I opted for the Spaghetti Harbour, which was generously portioned and packed with clams and mussels. The seafood was cooked perfectly, and the dish was hearty yet refined. My wife had the King Prawn Calamari, which was served with a light, perfectly cooked batter, accompanied by crispy skinny fries, a fresh salad, and tartare sauce. She loved the combination of flavors and textures. We washed everything down with a refreshing Leith draught beer, which rounded off our meal perfectly. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and we felt well taken care of throughout our visit. The facilities were well-maintained, including spotless toilets, which is always a good sign. Overall, the meal was excellent value for money, and we left feeling satisfied and eager to return. I highly recommend East Coast for anyone looking for fresh seafood and a great dining experience in Musselburgh.

Excellent fish and chips but we were let down by the dessert - pavlova . Very dissapointed with this as it consisted mainly of a plate of cream with 3 button shaped meringues, one strawberry cut in two and 3 raspberries!

Incredible fish and chips. They had forgot the drink and I wasn't going to say anything (was only £1.50), but the delivery chap came all the way back out with it unprompted. Never had that with takeaway before, great service! Definitely recommended.

Wow. This might rank in our top 5 restaurants ever! We came here after hiking much of the day and brought our appetites. Everything on the menu we ordered was the “best of” that particular item we’d had… maybe ever! The scallops thermidor and mushroom soup from the seasonal menu were outstanding. The fish and chips were spectacular - not greasy, not overly breaded, nicely salted. Service was so friendly, and they played perfectly nostalgic music (Bing Crosby, Sinatra, etc.). We finished with a sticky toffee pudding, and will definitely be back.

I rate this chip shop really highly and am a regular visitor. I like that they put mint in the mushy peas. The langoustine scampi is delicious but I don’t think it should come with less chips than the fish

Ordered some chips the.n realised they been cooked .ore than triple cooked very hard chips so hard it broke me tooth 😩 I also noticed the quality of chips gone down hill green chips also I went back told them.not happy they gave me mo ey back plus a free chips with curry sauce nope that went in the bin also awful 😖 thanks for giving me very hard chips that broke a tooth I will send you the dentist bill not even a apology for my tooth

Outstanding almost gourmet level of fish and chips. Delightful range of starters but in the end the fish and chips are the star of the show. The batter was light and fluffy, almost like tempura. Just perfect. Service was also excellent, efficient and cheerful. Genuinely worth a trek to taste the food. Book in advance so as to not be disappointed, takeaway on site as well.

We order from here most Saturdays, and can’t fault the fish and chips, on this occasion the fish was a lot smaller and not as many chips, but as always cooked to perfection !

Outstanding dinner. We had Seafood pasta and the Seafood mixed grill. Both were bloody marvellous! Drinks were great and service was grand too. This place is special.

Another visit. The best fish n chips in the Edinburgh area. AND chippie sauce. My wife had the lobster and crayfish ravioli, the kitchen can cook good Italian. But check opening times if you fancy lunch. Some days do not open till 4pm. Loch Fyne oysters were lovely.

Some of the best sea food I’ve ever had! The bruschetta and broccoli tempura were really good for starters and the harbour bowl I’d definitely recommend for a main! Staff were great too!

I will say this: I didn't get bad food... but I don't understand the fascination with this place. The restaurant has received awards and is recommended in many articles... My opinion is 4⭐ Near the restaurant there is a place of the same name where you can buy takeaway food. We had fish and chips and king prawns with chips. The shrimps were very good and worth trying. The fish was just ok. My partner even said that it must have been frozen beforehand. Prices quite high, portions average. 🤷‍♀️

Prawns were soggy and badly cooked. Haggis white pudding bites were dry. Chips and breaded fish were good.

We have recently visited this restaurant on two occasions and I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, service is outstanding and so is the food. We had a very emotional situation going on in the family and this place was almost like a sanctuary for us to help deal with it all. We want to extend our gratitude to Mido whose service was beyond imaginable and we can’t thank him enough, we will be seeing you all soon again. Big thanks to everyone involved in making every visit as special as it is.

Really disappointing. Drove down from Edinburgh for what we thought would be excellent fish suppers from this apparently award winning fish and chip shop. To be fair, I'm going to lay the blame squarely on the shoulders of that slightly portly Peter Kay knock off guy who does takeaway reviews on the youtube. We were watching him earlier today reviewing some incredible place in Newcastle serving up fantastic looking thick, crisp battered fish and a lightbulb went off in my head as I recalled this place had recently been voted as having the best fish and chips - maybe in Scotland? Or the whole UK? I can't remember... But anyway, that's how we landed up here tonight. Unfortunately, just opening up the box was disappointing. No massive, fantastically battered piece as expected. Instead a smaller, weirdly trapezoid (yes, looked that up) shaped piece which immediately has you questioning the authenticity of what you're about to have. To make matters worse, they did that horrible thing of just dumping the fish directly on top of the chips. So by the time we got down to the sea front and got the box open, the chips had steamed the lower batter into a congealed mess with the chips. It was literally impossible to break off even one piece of battered fish to enjoy on its own. At best, a bit of the top batter and a bit of not particularly thick fish. Additionally, as has been pointed out in other reviews as well, some of this fish was grey. The only real positive any of us had was that the chips were "okay". And the caveat to that was that none of us came close to finishing them! That was because they were massively under seasoned. We had asked for salt and vinegar but the taste of either was hard to distinguish. Combine that with half of them being covered in the residue greasy batter which fell off the bottom of the fish and you get why half of them landed up binned on the Musselburgh sea front. Given the premium price you're paying here (compared to other fish and chip shops) and the horrendous expectation to actual quality ratio, I'd definitely recommend giving this place a miss. If you're in this neck of the woods and looking for fish and chips, you'd be much better off taking a short drive along to the chip shop on Portobello High Street instead and getting your supper there instead...

Went to East Coast to try the Hluten Free(GF) fish and chips and we were not disappointed.The food was super fresh, cooked to order and tasted delicious. GF options available, would definitely recommend and will return again.

Ordered online to collect. When I arrived at my alloted time the place was heaving (Friday early evening) so I had to wait 5 minutes. But it was well worth it.

Absolutely mind blown to have such an eatery on our doorstep in East Lothian. We attended for the first time today for a pre Birthday dinner and it was a fabulous experience from start to finish. Wonderful friendly staff, very relaxed atmosphere but very trendy. Food was much better than some of the very fancy places we have eaten, the fish was outstanding....outstanding! Very reasonably priced and we cannot wait to come back.

Fish wasn't nice and chips tasted funny not good value for money

Update- it disappoints me to have to write this. I purchased takeaway fish and chips this evening for the family and it was very disappointing. No one finished their food, batter on fish was very greasy, fish was grey and thin rather than white, meaty and milky. Many of the chips were tiny little bits, larger ones were limp and greasy. Vast contrast to the standard of food that I previously reviewed. At £12.50 for fish and chips we did expect a better standard. Makes me sad because it has always been my go to for fish and chips in this area. Best takeaway fish and chips in this area. Maybe have to wait a bit longer as everything is is cooked from fresh but most definitely worth the wait.

Far too expensive, got exact same meal only nicer further up the coast for nearly £7 cheaper, 60p for mayo is the most expensive I have ever been charged by far

Great range of gluten free options. All the GF food was very good although the chips really lacked a noticeable amount of salt and vinegar. The staff had good gluten free knowledge. Would recommend the gluten free calamari, it was very light.

Food was OK, nothing much to compare from other local chip shops but the prices are out of order and so much higher than others, il go elsewhere in future

Visited Musselburgh for a few hours today came across this lovely wee restaurant it was beautifully decorated and the layout throughout nice light and airy the atmosphere was relaxing with friendly well mannered staff, the food was excellent, best fish and chips I have tasted in a long time(compliments to the chef) I only had a main and a dessert, menus were fab great selection. Well done and thank you for a lovely experience. I hope to return soon to try more of their lovely food.

Heard so many good reviews regarding East Coast Chipshop Musselburgh, so as I was in the town I’d thought I would try a fish supper. Easily the most expensive Fish supper I’ve ever had at £12.50 and easily the worst fish supper I’ve ever had and I have had many to compare with. I can honestly say I wouldn’t take a free fish supper from this chippie and I will never be back.

Heard about this great fish restaurant in Musselburgh so as we were in the area we looked it up. Lovely from the outside and a warm welcome greeted us when we entered, the decor inside was bright and classy. We both decided on the 2 course early bird menu for £22 each, I had mussels and a wee haddock and chips, M had fishcakes and a wee haddock and chips, we shared a creamy rhubarb cheesecake, portions were perfect, but I couldn't help sneaking peeks at the couple next to us, sharing a huge seafood platter, it looked amazing...next time😊

Quality food amazing. Coming from a Mediterranean area, saying this is a big thing. Very fresh and very well cooked food. We'll come back for sure and we'll take visitors to show them how good you can eat in Scotland without spending a fortune. Service wasn't great, we waited extra bit for the mains and waitress weren't very focused on us, but to be honest, it was a big fair in the harbour so probably they were very busy the whole day and could affect them.

Just here for the mussels and overall all seafood 🤤😋. We also ordered carbonara (?) and it was a very tasty and good option. The fish and chips portion is BIG 🤗🫡 and overall the service is lovely.
