We celebrated our daughter's 30th birthday with a family Sunday Lunch at the 1902 Bar & Grill Restaurant @ the Dunmuir Hotel yesterday for 10 adults and 7 children (aged 14 months to 13 years old). Our kitchen is being rejigged and so we treated ourselves to Sunday lunch at the Dunmuir today. The food was excellent - only good quality beef can be served rare and taste as good, vegetables were fresh and not over cooked. The staff were friendly and attentive. What a great start to our 5 day break in Sunny Dunbar (so they say). I’m a great believer in research paying off, so our dinner at 1902 Bar & Grill Restaurant at the Dunmuir Hotel couldn’t have been better. My wife’s Daiquiri & my Tequila based Mexican Wave got things off to a great start. The starter of chicken Bon-Bon’s with sriracha & aioli was tasty but nothing to write to Tripadvisor about! Our main courses followed in triumph - huge portions of the most tender lamb rump with gorgeous herbed mash and heritage carrots & expertly cooked broccoli. Individual pots of lamb jus attended the plates. Truly a feast but we come from a long line of lily-gilders & we’d ordered beer battered onion rings too - lovely but totally not needed & most were left, to our shame. Try not to judge us. Puds were inviting but absolutely out of the question - couldn’t eat a thing more, not even a “leetle waffer” as Mr Creosote from Monty Python would say. Service was on point, the ambience was just-so as not many tables taken but got talking to another holidaying couple. Muzak was 60’s & 70’s hits wafting gently in the background at a very sensible level. If the rest of my selections of eateries is only 90% as good as our first, then we’ll be happy. Well done 1902 kitchen, highly recommended.

Went here for a special family dinner recently. The service was fast but the staff had no clue what they were doing. The waiter set everything up backwards or for left handed people. The waiter also didn't offer us the wine properly which was a bit funny. We chose this restaurant because of the menus online. However these menus are all incorrect. For a Grill to only have the option of a cheese burger and a sirloin steak on the menu is hilarious and very poor. I had the cod for my main and it was lovely but the home made chips were soggy and greasy. The atmosphere in here was quite dated. I don't think the interior has been touched since the late 80s. There was child like drawings on the walls along with a sea life theme. It was a strange combination for a supposed fancy restaurant. We were there on a Saturday night and there wasn't many people there eating. That says enough for me. We ordered our last drinks after the meal which they got wrong then we asked for the bill. The place is reasonably priced and it was definitely an experience to remember. I'd recommend this place for an afternoon lunch but don't expect an à la carte experience or a stake lol.

Enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch here today. The quality of food was exceptional. We really enjoyed our duck croquettes / chicken caesar bon bons to start. The roast beef was really tender and all the accompaniments were delicious. Desserts were also faultless. This restaurant offers fine dining options in a casual and friendly atmosphere (the restaurant has recently been refurbished and is looking great). It is also reliably excellent, time and again, rather than being hit and miss. It deserves to be much busier than it often is. Thanks Dunmuir.

Another wonderful dinner with Philip Mellor and his team. This restaurant has become a real favourite of ours. Hidden behind the hotel reception is a fabulous, relaxed dining room. The staff are casual but so professional. The menu is narrow but excellent with locally sourced produce, beautifully presented by the excellent chef, and the wine list is so carefully curated by Philip... who knows his stuff! This is a restaurant you would go to with family and friends or a special night out. Smart but not pretentious. Great food, great staff and an altogether great experience. Try it! (Just to note, the restaurant closes mid week to give the team a well earned rest.... all info on the website)

This very lovely restaurant in the Dunmuir Hotel is just wonderful. I've been a number of times both in a large group and as a couple and the standard never waivers. The actual restaurant itself is recently refurbished and looks great. It is not overfilled with tables so you don't feel cramped. The service from the moment you walk in is friendly but professional. I think getting the balance right is hard and these guys have nailed it. Then there's the food. I've yet to have a bad dish, the food really is absolutely delicious. The standard really is exceptional and I would go to eat there again in a heartbeat. This is all very high praise but as a person who rarely reviews things, in this instance it absolutely deserves this 5 star rating.

We live in Dunbar and have enjoyed some pleasing meals from time to time at the Dunmuir hotel - but since their reopening after lockdown they have really pulled out the stops. The ballroom has been transformed into a restaurant space with very generous spacing between tables (generally well over 2 metres) and some elegant small decorative screens to give a sense of atmosphere (they also have a few outside tables where we took coffee). They had single use menus and wipe-clear wine lists and staff wearing masks. The food and service were both very good: both our starters and mains were beautifully presented dishes cooked with great care. The wine list seems to have grown since our last visit, now with 32 different wines including some interesting choices at sensible prices. Complementary water was served in chilled bottles. And they have very good toilets with extra hygiene arrangements and no need to queue!

underwhelming...food not fit for purpose. premade childs burger hard like a shoes sole, completely out of touch serving thin cut melon with sorbet as a starter (kids meal). Sea food starter hard to describe...maybe a 80's prawn cocktail on rock solid bread, partner says doesn't deserve such a good description. £15 venison burger not to bad, think its from the local butcher, garnish a joke. Came for a family meal. All of us were disappointed. The food neither tasty or fresh. The buns and bread were hard and days old. The seafood starter had no taste. Venison burger was less than average. Bacon was slimy and inedible. Kid's meal was bizarre. Wafer thin melon with a rock solid lemon sorbet with bitter coulis ... really! Kid's burger was pre-made cardboard. Fries were ok. Waiter wasn't happy when we gave our thought. Got 10 per cent off. Feel ripped off. Most certainly not value for money. Not fresh. Not tasty. we visited here on our way back home to Scotland from England. I used Tripadvisor to find the best place in Dunbar and decided on this venue. We arrived at a particularly busy time so we were put into the bar. Little room but very nicely decorated. The staff were great, the food was very reasonably priced and the presentation and quality of food was absolutely incredible. My kids (aged 12&13) can have varying appetites dependant on portion size and so they chose the kids menu. However the portions for the kids are generous and as the food was so delicious, my kids ate every single bit. Adult portions were so generous also and you can tell that this food is all home made - hats off to the chef. The bill was not what i expected for the quality of food and portion size - very very very reasonable. i live about an hour and a half car drive away from here but would make a point of eating here again if the opportunity arose. We eat out often and it is rare i visit somewhere that ticks all the boxes. Definitely worth a visit.

We visited here for Fathers Day and cannot fault the food or the service!!!Nine of us, five adults, three kids (two with severe food allergies) came for lunch. Nothing was too much hassle! The child with no food allergies nearly had a meltdown as there isn't chicken nuggets on the menu and he struggles choosing something else to eat. A burger was chosen and orders taken. Two minutes later the owner came back and said that the chef had offered to make chicken goujons for our son but he was fine with the burger (which he enjoyed when it came). We were asked if wanted the kids meals out when ready as we were having starters which was much appreciated. We all had a dessert and it was no trouble to check if pea starch was an ingredient in the sorbet (which it wasn't) with both kids enjoying theirs. Only downside for my dessert, the Cranachan was beautiful but as I was driving i couldn't enjoy the whiskey shot but my partner enjoyed mine (and his Mums!!) The food quality and staff were exceptional and made for a lovely Fathers Day meal. We will definitely be back.

We were impressed with everything the snapper was cooked to perfection and the salsa was so fresh. The dessert was to die for so much so that I almost took a bite out of the plate. We had the restaurant to our self's so service was tip top as well. My partner enjoyed her day thanks to a great meal.

we went in with my son and his partner for Sunday lunch, I had a 3 course meal and it was one of the best I have ever had, the soup was like my mum used to make and the roast was perfect, I asked for the burnt ends and I got them my son had his pink and he said it was amazing his partner had venison it looked amazing, if anything the portions were too big but I did have to try the baked apple crumble, again it reminded me of my mums cooking when I was a child all those years ago. the service was good and the waitresses were very friendly.

Very good food at a very reasonable price with good service thrown in too! Didn't even know the place existed, but we WILL be going back! Well worth a try, and much more modern that the other local spots like the Rocks, Hillside, etc.

sorry for the late response, we booked here with friends and family, I pre-ordered the lobster, I paid 35 bucks for it and I wasn't disappointed, to be honest I have paid more for less in other places, the rest of the group ordered various things but my mum had the foie and the beef medalions, all I can say was stunning, as for puddings most of my group had them the all looked good especially the baked apple, but I only had the ice cream, seemingly its from a local farm, I would like to know where they get it from as I would like to buy some as its one of the best I have tried, congrats to the team here as this was one of the best meals we have had, and trust me we have had more than a few, i have never done this trip advisor thing but as this was the best i thought i should

A lovely restaurant worth visiting even if not staying at the Dunmuir. All the dishes we sampled - and those enjoyed by neighbouring guests - were excellent. Great soup of the day, fantastic chips, and beautiful mussels particularly recommended. Generous serves and pleasant service.

Reasonable value for money but the food, location and staff where decidedly average. no atmosphere and the surroundings are drab. Generally serviceable but nothing special

Visited two nights in succession as we were staying at the hotel. First night went ok, but not so much luck on the second. My steak was not up to standard. The manager was very apologetic and knocked £5 off our bill, which I thought was very generous Quite a good selection of food at reasonable prices. Would recommend the Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon off the wine list

Ate here by chance, and it was so lucky we did as the food was amazing. Staff where very attentive and cannot fault the service, but by far the best part was the food which was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back again soon.

£6.80 for a salad box is outrageous! I don’t pay that in the city centre. Had to double check it was Prestonpans I was in…

Came for a belated birthday meal while visiting the area. Nice to see somewhere wheelchair accessible! Although I can't comment on the loos as I didn't use them. Over all the food was really good. Couple of little qualms. The peppered chicken could've done with more chicken for the price of the dish, but the dish was tasty. Would be nice to know the pie only has a pie top, but the beef filling was super tasty. Also like the fact they offer smaller portions with several dishes. Cheese fondue was good, real nice bread with it. Some of the mains were just a tad pricey. Dessert was so good! Sticky toffee especially. Cocktails were absolutely delicious. All in all we had a lovely evening and would return if we happened to be in the area again
