Habíamos reservado la cena en conexión con una velada en el teatro. Entradas prepagadas a una producción musical y cerrar un prepago comida en un restaurante especializado en una cena de carne asada con todos sus detalles que había estado allí antes y yo estaba deseando mostrando mi hija la comida increíble y experiencia. El agente de reservas era Evan Evans - una agencia de buena reputación que habíamos reservado y llevado 4 tours con esa semana. Imagine nuestra sorpresa cuando llegamos a encontrar el restaurante reservado sólo 2 meses antes ya no existía. Reformas de haber ocurrido 5 meses antes. Nos aseguraron que la reserva sería respetada en el mostrador de recepción y luego de nuevo a la zona de restaurante. Nos llevaban para el teatro y no se han acostumbrado a comer bien y así estábamos bastante encantados con lo que parecía ser un encantador y renovado menú rediseño del nuevo restaurante. Elegimos el vino (no incluido en la reserva) y nos dirigimos a las opciones del menú Seleccionar dentro de los parámetros de lo explicado como domésticos de nuestra reserva - hasta ahora tan bueno. Elegimos un aperitivo para compartir y entre cada una de las Dover y el acompañamiento. El servicio era impecable, aunque sospecho que el pescado no era fresco como sabía más bien como una pecera huele rancio. . Pero luego seleccionados un intrépidos del desierto que compartimos como único era bastante abundante y me por el sabor.

El restaurante no es grande y está abajo. Hay música en el piano bar, pero no hay música en el restaurante, así que le falta un poco de ambiente. Los camareros no eran tan hablador como normal, creo que algunas eran nuevas. Nuestra entrada era muy bonita, tenía de gambas y cangrejo cóctel, tengo que decir que podría haber hecho sin la limpieza 3 langostinos grandes con los ojos de plato pequeño, sin agua de limón para lavarse los dedos. Aunque llegamos tarde en venir a nuestra mesa reservada, el personal, y su colega Paul aún estaban muy amable y nos dio una cálida bienvenida. Un muy buen comienzo para empezar una noche agradable. .

Tuvimos una comida absolutamente maravillosa aquí. Este restaurante ha sido renovado y es bastante bonito. Es una bonita habitación tranquila. Mi marido tenía el salmón ahumado (hábilmente talladas en la mesa) y yo tuvimos la terrina como aperitivos. Para nuestro plato principal, mi marido tenía la costilla y yo tuvimos el Dover. Toda la comida era excelente, así como los camareros. Reservas altamente recomendable.

Nos alojamos en el número de Rubens (por separado) por cuatro noches en la víspera de año nuevo, así que en vez de afrontar las multitudes y la falta de taxis decidimos reservar una comida especial en la biblioteca. Mientras que ciertamente no se puede quejar de la comida o la camarera que estaba buscando después de nosotros, era de los pequeños detalles que nos dejó un poco decepcionados.

Das Restaurant befindet sich im Keller des Hotels „Rubens at the Palace“ und hat nur wenige Tische, was offenbar der Grund dafür ist, schon eine Woche früher einen Tisch reservieren zu müssen. Die Karte ist sehr klein, dafür sind die Preise aber recht üppig. So kosten etwa 3 Stück 5x2 cm lange durchsichtige Streifen von Räucherlachs umgerechnet € 24,--. Die als Hauptspeise angebotene Barbarie Ente kostet ebenso viel und wird grob gewürfelt (8 Stück) serviert. Jedenfalls die Finger sollte man vom Cappuccino lassen, der nicht nur untrinkbar ist, sondern auch noch umgerechnet € 10,-- kostet. Das Service ist wie im ganzen Hotel allerdings hervorragend.

Lovely setting, had London Festival Menu. Food was excellent as was service. No hustle and bustle, very relaxing evening.

The food choices were really good, and I was able to get served at times that one may not be able to at other places The staff was accommodating and I would recommend this to anyone for a relaxing drink solo or with friends, and a bite to eat.

We had a few meals here during our stay. Good menu, food is tasty and well presented and staff are attentive. Good for snacks or pre or post theatre eating.

We had a very fine dinner at The Library. Heirloom Tomato, wild mushroom terrine, Gressingham duck, pork belly, honeycomb dessert and rice pudding dessert were hard to fault. Wine was good. (Be aware, however; it is quite expensive!)However, I was disappointed in the way the bill is constructed and it left rather a sour taste. In the very fine print at the end of the menu it says there will be a 12.5% service charge automatically applied. This is mixed in with information about the VAT and was unnoticed at the time of ordering. What does this mean? Is it to cover the cost of getting the food from the kitchen to the table? There is also a blank item to add a TIP on top of this service charge, and the waitstaff expect it. I can only imagine that management doesn't want to reveal the real cost of each dish. I am more than happy to add a generous tip for good service, but object to this way of doing business. I only hope enough people point this out to establishments that are trying this trick, and vote with their feet. There are enough other great places to dine that are upfront with their prices.

I thought the atmosphere and the service here was perfect. I was a tad disappointed in the food, especially as I got the Ruben's Bone in Fillet. Honestly, it was just fine, but I would try the Old Masters next time instead for the money. Shane was an amazing waiter and should be commended for his perfection.

Yes, you really sit in a library surrounded by books for your meal. Very elegant with excellent food and attentive service. We enjoyed the ambiance as much as the food.

It's completely amazing museum in the world, we spent a few days to travel around both inside and outside this museum, there is no impeccable point of our visited, its absolutely worthwhile one in London along with other countries.

have had two business dinners with high end people, and both dinners were terrific there. well appointed, attentive hosts, a varied menu and good wines, served well and with good attention. a bit pricey but you'd expect that. retire to the piano lobby bar upstairs. interesting desserts. i recommend this place for business with executives, couples for anniversaries, or for mature dinners out. need to dress well -- no jeans or the like

After a day touring, a delightful place to have an afternoon drink. The piano bar and singer were outstanding.

Me and my wife had a short break in London and wanted to visit a better restaurant for the evening. I choosed The Library and did not regret at all. From the first moment we felt like some special guests that got all friendly service possible. The food was really good too, and specially the self imported and owned wine from South Africe. Remember to ask for it.

Went away for my mum's birthday and reserved a table at The Library. All the food was amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed every bit. The service was also fantastic. Would 100% visit there again and highly recommend to anyone that's going to visit London.

My husband booked this restaurant for my birthday night and he couldn't have picked a better option. The service was impeccable. Our server wished me Happy Birthday the moment I walked in and looked after us all evening. We didn't have to try and get her attention for anything. She was always at hand and all the courses just flew in one after the other. The food was fantastic too! Everything was absolutely scrumptious and could not be faulted.Last but not the least - the decor is absolutely perfect. It's relaxed and cosy, yet sophisticated. I would wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant! Do go and see for yourself what it's all about :)

The library restaurant is hidden away in the basement of the rubens hotel which is the sister hotel of hotel 41 where we stayed to celebrate my partners birthday, the restaurant is set out formally in what I would describe as an old fashioned style but quaint and very well done the food and wine where lovely and well presented and the service and advice from the waiter who was impeccably dressed in a butlers outfit as a special treat it was a fantastic experience and with complimentary drinks provided by our hotel it made it the perfect evening

The Library Bar is our late night go to spot just before bed for a night cap and a snack. The burger and fries is first rate!

The restaurant is right in the base of the hotel. The setting is great and its quiet and relaxing. Food choices are wide and i have never had anything that was less than excellent. The prices are not cheap, but this is definitely fine dining.

My partner and I could scarcely believe that we both felt The Library was the best thing about our trip to London. I mean, the Queen Mary dollhouse, the kitchen at Buckingham Palace, the choir practicing at St. Paul's Cathedral? No, it was this restaurant. It was gorgeous, quiet, peaceful, relaxing, with superb non-intrusive service, and incredibly good food. I had a tenderloin of beef and she had Dover sole. She still talks about it and is certain there is nothing like it here in the states. Gosh, maybe we'll have to go back! Okay by me!

You could describe my wife and I as wine snobs so you could imagine my disappointment when I learned they lean very heavily on South African wines (never heard of them :)). Into the fray..... Voila! They were fantastic wines especially for the price point. Not only did we enjoy them, they are going into our cellar!

We had a brilliant stay at The Library. The room was fantastic, extremely comfortable and spacious with all facilities that could have possibly been needed. The kitchen area enabled us to enjoy a lovely evening meal in the comforts of our own room and the great facilities allowed for a relaxing stay. The bar area was great and very welcoming with friendly staff behind the bar. The only reason we would not rate this hotel as 5 star is because we felt one man in particular behind reception came across as quite rude when we first arrived at the hotel. As well as this he didn't bother to tell us where our room was or which floor it was on so we were left to walk around the hotel in search of our room. The woman behind reception was extremely friendly and made up for the lack of customer service experienced on the previous day. If staying at this hotel make sure you receive your complimentary cocktail from the bar as we were not informed of this on our first day! Overall we would definitely recommend this hotel for couples, but not suitable for families.

We really enjoyed the atmosphere of the Library. It has a cozy but elegant feel, like an old fashioned club where the well to do came to have lunch or meet up. The food was good to excellent. I ordered the chicken and enjoyed it a lot, but the portion size was fairly small for the price. Same thing with my husband's main course salad. The good news was that we were left with plenty of room for dessert- and the dessert list is very enticing. We would return.

Our last night in London and we chose to stay in the hotel to eat. The service was perfect and the food was superb. The restaurant has the feel of a library, it is extremely comfortable and intimate and the service just added to this. Don't be put off by the price, you are in London in an excellent hotel, just relax and enjoy it all.

The atmosphere in this place was amazing; not too quiet, which I hate but not noisy in any way. Calming and relaxing. Food cannot be faulted. Me and my mum both had fillet steak cooked exactly how we'd asked for it (rare). The veg came in butter which I LOVE and the chips were amazing.

The Library at the Rubens at the Palace is a two rosette restaurant. The room has a warm feeling and is nicely decorated just like you expect an nice old library. You sit is comfortable arm chairs ( small people get offered a cushion) The table decoration matches nicely the style. Staff at The Rubens seems always friendly and knowledgeable and in the restaurant there was no exception. As our young daughter slept in the hotel The Library was the perfect location. Locking at the menu beforehand online it does not give the impression of exquisite dining. If you like meat however you are in the right place The steak I had was faultless and the Dover sole was very well prepared. The wine Selection is good with a focus on South Africa.Dessert loses a little bit in finesse. My wife by accident ordered a chocolate Sunday , thinking it was a chocolate brownie. I am not sure why this dessert is on the menu. The presentation was simple ( not to say boring) and the ice cream very average. My dessert (honeycomb ice cream ) was good.As soon as the staff realised my wife's disappointment about desert they reacted perfectly. She quickly was offered brownies from the menu of the other restaurant and the dessert did not appear on the bill!All in all we had a very nice evening and if you like the style of food you wont be disappointed!

Loved the food, service, even served the food hot. Drinks by New York standards are very reasonable. Had two dinners here. The décor is very old fashioned and claming after a day on your feet. The chairs could lull you to sleep. Guests were nicely dressed, many for the theater, and we just loved this restaurant.

We were staying at the Rubens so had dinner here one evening. Had we tried this sooner, we would have come back. I had the Buccleuch Estate Beef Fillet - delicious. But - for a starter I had the Duo of Inverawe Scottish and Burren Irish Smoked Salmon. Unfortunately, I guess, is that they were out of the Irish salmon, so I had a double portion of the Scottish. I can't imagine that I missed anything because the salmon was the best I've ever had. And the presentation is delightful. A huge carving cart is wheeled to your table and the salmon is shaved and rolled then presented to you. What a treat! I'll be thinking about that salmon for a long time. And the ambiance is cozy and decorated as you would expect a British Library to be. Wonderful time!

My first experience with afternoon tes, we were satying here as well. Once was enough for me, my wife loves it. Every thing about this location is great just like the Rubens Hotel.If you like this kind of stuff go here

Eat here whilst staying at the hotel. I guess there is a lot of local competion as it was very quiet, with only 3 tables occupied. Service was excellent and free glass of champange for wifes birthday. All the food was excellent, the menu choice is limited, but covers the range of foods from meat, fish and veggie.Nice ambience with lots of conversation about the books and cupboard contents (that you can remove and look at!)In all very good and worth a visit, especially if staying at the excellent Rubens Hotel.

My fiancée and I booked an Afternoon Tea here using a Red Letter Day voucher. We were surprised to get the time we wanted on a Saturday at such short notice (4 days). We have been to many afternoon teas in London (mostly in hotels, including Antheneum, The Langham, Lanesbrough and The Goring), so we know what to expect when it come to this great British tradition.The service at the main reception desk when we entered the hoten was attentive and friendly (but not too much). Bags and coats were taken away and we were shown to where afternoon tea take splace, where we were greeted again by more lovely staff (who all seemed happy to be there). The room was delightful - lots of natural light, comfy furniture, nice looking tables & crockery, intersting things on the walls and a good atmosphere. I opted for their special blend of Earl Grey (with lavender!), which was a revelation!

We were staying at 41 and decided to try the Library as it was highly recommened. The setting is lovely, very English and comfortable. The service also was good, attentive but not overbearing. The only let down was the food. My starter was tasty, Rabbit and Fois Gras Terrine, but my wife's noodle soup was very weak and lacked seasoning (although the accompanying chicken pies were good). We both ordered the lamp cutlets and there was a touch too much fat on them. Of course, its not cheap so for the money you pay you expect something just a little bit better.

I went here with the thought it would be a real overpriced tourist trap.We had drinks first in the bar, at reasonable prices and nibbles served and good service.Then went downstairs to 'The Library' for dinner.Such a lovely homely room, large armchairs to sink into at the table, beautiful furniture and food to go with it.Our waitress was very knowledgable about our friends wheat intolerance and was able to answer what was in the all the dishes and advised which dishes would be suitable for him.Service was done properly, and it was aware that the staff had actually been trained to a high standard.Food was lovely and decent sized portions,I would 100% return.

An expensive, fancy restaurant in the lower floors of the hotel, The Library is something special to look at but the food itself was lacking. The food was a strange mix of too bland as well as too intensely flavored. It was expensive and just off-the-mark. Definitely not worth the price.

We stayed at the 41 next door and on the first night could not be bothered to look around so popped in here. Boy am I glad we did. The smoked salmon was great. The service was great and the fish was superb.The Rubens does look some what dated compared to say some of the modern hotels, but the staff are all really helpful. Would I go again - yes we did but that's another 5* story!

On first glance The Rubens looks a little stuffy but the staff are so willing, helpful and friendly, that you cannot help relaxing into the opulence. The food was inventive, healthy and great value for money and the Library restaurant felt like 'disneyland for grown ups'. Then, when we had finished, our friendly (and intelligent) waitress found us a quiet comfy sofa with a beautiful view and continued to be attentive without pressuring us at all. Your even get a tag for your coat (included in the price of course) in a cute little envelope. We will be going back as often as we earn the treat.

My friends and I were looking for a nice place to have dinner after seeing Wicked at the Apollo nearby. We were dressed nicely for the show and wanted to go someplace nice, but none of us are particularly well off, so this was a treat. At a lot of Nice restaurants, you feel very stiff and stuffy...Like god forbid you don't know exactly what some obscure French dish is or which fork to use, etc. Or your clothes are exactly right. So even when the food is amazing, you still feel out of place and uncomfortable. Or maybe that's just me and I'm overly sensitive. Regardless, the staff at the Library was so warm and welcoming...They stopped to chat to us, answered all our questions, and never once made any of us feel like we didn't belong there. The dining room itself was beautiful and comfortable...High class, but not untouchable, if that makes sense. The chairs were so comfortable, just as an aside. Soooo comfortable. As I mentioned, the staff was super friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing! I especially enjoyed my desert, but the steak was cooked to perfection as well and the appetizer was...interesting. Probably wouldn't have it again, but that was more a matter of I don't think I like pheasant then anything wrong with the food. Anyway, I really liked the fact that they had like...set menus. So you got to pick from a couple of dishes to make up a three course menu for a set price. That kind of let me try some stuff without breaking my piggy bank. I also like the special menu they had...In this case the theme was apples. My boyfriend was really pleased with it, at any rate. All in all, this was a really nice experience. As much as I like to try new places and new things when I go to new cities, I would totally go back to this restaurant, especially for an after dinner meal. I can't say enough about this restaurant!

In the basement of the Ruebens Hotel. Very nice ambiance and great service. The food was also good and as was the wine selection. I don't know if it's little known but it was less than half full when we ate there. It was a nice 2 hour dinner and we all enjoyed our meal, drinks and dessert. I would recommend it for a nice sit down dinner if your in the area.

We pre booked through our hotel though when we were there it was just about empty. we were surprised that it was a set menu and the they only had one portion of meat left so I gave that to me brother and had the fish. We had heard great things about the menu so we were let down by the set menu and meat for one. When the food arrived excellent presentation, good taste, well worth price, London is expensive, excellent service from our lady waiter. Overall food was great, choice limited though, service very good, ambiance really old world wealth which I like. We would go again but I would check first if its a set menu or not.

Perhaps because it was a luncheon it wasn't The Library's best effort, but I couldn't eat the meal I paid 30£ for. I had the crab tian for starter, it was nice, bit nothing exciting. It would have been better with an orange olive oil dressing, but nice. Then came the mains. The beef was dry and the fish I had still had some scales on the skin. It was tasteless and dried out. Then they came around with some fresh steamed veggies. Nothing spectacular, an eay and quick side, but the roasted potatoes had a peculiar flavour.To top off m. Y meal I had the chocolate tart. The crust was rather cardboardish. It looked like it had been in the fridge a couple of days. With a big blob of whipped cream that had been slightly over whipped. You know a little curdy looking. It wasn't in a rosette just a rather unattractive presentation to boot. I am going to assume that the regular restaurant is better by the other nice reviews.

To access the Library you have to find it first because it is in the basement of the Rubens. You have to go through what looks like a pub lounge with folks eating bar food. Getting someone to serve us in the bar was difficult and we had to wait for the Library to open up for the evening.When we sat down to eat the food was good and the staff in the restaurant were attentive.

The evening did not start well as I had checked the menu on line before visiting and had made up my mind what I wanted to eat only to find the on-line menu was out of date but the second choice was very tasty. My husband had rabbit starter and I was guided towards a chilled tomato consomme - both were excellent - the desserts with wine combination on the menu are a great idea The wine list was extensive but again did not appear to be up to date - the wine chosen was not available and it was only when we were shown the bottle we noticed that the year was different (and younger). We were told the year advertised had sold out and we were offered the second bottle at a reduced rate.The staff were very friendly and service at the table was impeccable.

We stayed at the hotel and ate in the Library one evening. We ate from the table d'hôtel menu, which was quite limited, but the food, service and ambience were absolutely top class. Some may say that at almost £30 it's quite expensive, but it is a genuine four star central London hotel, with flawless food and service, and you should expect to pay that in such a place. A first class dining experience and highly recommended.

The food in this restaurant is the best we have ever eaten in a hotel. The staff went out of their way to explain the different dishes on the menu. The staff we friendly whilst being professional and we did not feel rushed to finish any course. Although not the cheapest meal we have ever eaten in terms of value for money definitely the best.

On va pas ce plaindre on va dire que c’est pas mal.C’est vrai que lors de notre séjour à Londres ce fut le moins décevant.Et pourtant, le menu à 50 livres plus vin et service on est à 150-200 à deux.On est dans un hôtel, en sous sol, salle en rond, entourée de livres et vue sur l'escalier. Assit dans des fauteuils, certe confortable, mais que la table est haute !L’assiette ca va, il manque portant un quelque chose qui fait… Pour le pain, immonde. J’ai pris du fromage (le seul mangeable évidemment le français), servit avec non pas du pain mais des sortes de Tuc. Le service super.Bon on est à Londres ! Il paraît qu’ils ont fait des progrès, mais pas dans les prix…

Wer denkt, dass englische Küche nicht schmeckt, muss mal hierhin gehen. Das Essen war sehr gut, das Ambiente stimmig, der Service sehr aufmerksam. Die Speisen sind ein Mix aus lokalen Zutaten, traditioneller Zubereitung, aber modern angerichtet.

Excellent meal in lovely surroundings. The staff were very attentive. I would certainly recommend this to anyone.

A bit more pricey than some others but well worth it. Tea is served on bone china with a wonderful selection. Three tier serving platter has a great combination starting with the finger sandwiches, moving on to the scones and then finally the tastiest little pastries......lots of folks go to the Orangery at Kensington Palace, but this was much better !!

Quiet intimate and you can hear your guests at the table as opposed to loud noisy restaurants where you can't hear yourself think.

This restaurant is in the Rubens Hotel/Hotel 41 building. The room is very comfortable and well laid out, and decor befits the name "Library". Plenty of room between tables.The service is excellent, with Tomas the head waiter giving excellent service the evening we were there.Food was very good, especially as within a hotel this can suffer sometimes. Wine list is varied and reasonably priced.Overall we had a very good meal there, and I didn't consider it too expensive.Recommended.
