We were looking for afternoon tea and dropped in to enquire, and what a day to drop in! I went to ask a lady by a champagne stand and she gave my husband and I a free glass of Veuve (my favourite drink) and asked someone to help with our query! Omar (I think) came back and said afternoon tea was available and sat us in ‘The Den’! It’s an interesting room with fun art and board games. Monica then came to take the order and we got three adult and one child aft teas, during this time the lovely lady from the champagne stand brought our girls a ‘St Martins’ monopoly game present each to keep and another champagne! The afternoon tea was really tasty, the scones warm and crumbly, the savoury food was deliciously different and the detail and storytelling was fun too! My husband and I have decided we will stay at the hotel next time we’re visiting London as it was just so wonderful. We had music from the birthday party next door, which was great, our girls had things to do, lovely food, great surroundings, perfect location and wonderful atmosphere! The staff here were exceptional - the champagne lady (I’m sorry I didn’t catch your name), Omar, the young lady who told the afternoon tea story and Monica, you were all so lovely, thanks for a above and beyond London afternoon tea experience! Cheers!

Afternoon tea in The Den was a really lovely 2 hours. Not just a delicious afternoon tea but you also get a little tour of the hotel learning some of the interesting and quirky facts about it. Manuel, who served us, made it very entertaining. Tea with a difference.

Small space in a hotel lobby, would be difficult to do more than 4 people here. The food made it, but it’s a bit awkward being in the hotel lobby and hearing all of it. The lounge is unique, the paintings, chairs, tables, and decor being eclectic in style, and therefore not traditional at all. The tea was good too. We had afternoon tea for three.

Unique small place in a hotel lobby, great food though. Atmosphere was interesting because of that. Would be difficult to do a large group (over 4) because do the small space.

To top this all off we were attended to by two amazing ladies, Aarati and Vivian, who were so kind and attentive and even gave us a free drink when we didn’t like one we ordered. It’s a must visit.

Went for afternoon tea with my girlfriends. If you've never been, the entry isn't very obvious so try not to walk past like I did ;) They have vegan and vegetarian options in addition to the normal menu We had all dietary requirements in the group. I saw families with children but not sure whether they did afternoon tea or something else. The service was excellent. Dietary requests were asked for before hand. And we were checked on several times while we were there. When the food was served the waiter went through the theme and aspects which the food represented. I won't spoil it for you because it's part of the USP All the food was delicious. They even had cotton candy! It was more than I could personally eat but they were happy to do takeaway. They had a little palate cleansing concoction to use between layers. Interesting concept. The tea selection was very interesting. We chose 4 different types so we could try as many as possible. They used the biggest teapots I've ever had at an afternoon tea so you won't need any top up. I couldn't finish mine and neither did anyone else. It will set you back a tidy sum compared to other afternoon teas you could have. I wouldn't say this one is in the higher price range. I enjoyed the uniqueness of it. Would recommend it for a special occasion. Like seeing friends after a half year 😂 Enjoy

I notice there are no reviews on here since 2022, perhaps nobody else has been able to afford the place since then! We were the only people in on what was a very busy Christmas Saturday lunchtime throughout the other establishments in the area. Before booking I had emailed the hotel to make sure that the traditional afternoon tea (as shown on their website) was still available, not the new tea and tales version. I was told if I made a note when booking that this would be fine, which I did. On arrival at the hotel at the appointed time no staff were in the vicinity, after waiting I went to reception and someone was summoned. I asked them if we could have the traditional afternoon tea (as arranged) and was told this was not available. The tea and tales is vastly overpriced, with the compulsory service charge coming in at £130 for tea for two with no alcohol. I didn't really enjoy the taste or quality of the food. In retrospect I wish I had gone to browns restaurant across the road, where a better tea and experience can be had for around half the price!

The service was okay, the environment is very flat, no music or entertainment… I ordered the shrimps and received a Still unfrozen meatballs that looked everything but shrimps-based. It’s not possible to received a frozen plate ( the meatballs were not being fried enough and inside of them was still frozen) in a 5 stars hotel, I would not even expect that from a neighborhood pub. Having found the place in a “top gluten free restaurants in London”, we then enjoyed our worst ever afternoon tea. Heavy and at points positively sickening. The highlight of the meal was my wife dropping a creamy coconut and lemon cake and when picking it up from the floor announcing: “It’s kept its shape!” Staff were nice and the space itself is quirky and private. So it’s not like the place is without positives!

This is at the lower end of the price range we have paid for afternoon tea so I wasn’t sure what to expect. £35 each - came to £161 after a 15% service charge was added for four people. There was also space to add a gratuity. We had the vegetarian/vegan option. Good points: Small pretty room, very helpful staff before the booking and on arrival - changed our booking by half an hour when we were running late, took a photo for us and brought out a cute slice of cake and candle for the birthday girl. Very nIce cakes, quite unusual and interesting. No rush to leave, tap water offered straight away, loos were v clean. Could swap tea for hot chocolate for two of us. Nice neat small but decent selection of teas. Negatives: No offer of additional savoury/cake - other places have usually come to see if more of a particular thing is wanted. Savoury was limited - egg brioche x 1 and avocado wrap x 2 for the veggies and 3 apparently identical wraps for the vegan. I’d probably recommend this as a ‘could do’ if we were local and the rest of the hotel looked very inviting but I might not put it as a ‘must do’.

We visited for a friends birthday which I had booked and told the hotel about, 2 months in advance. When we arrived we had to search for someone to seat us, were given menus with no explanation of what we needed to do... did we order? was this the standard menu? I had to ask the reception of the hotel 3 times to try and find someone in order to get some level of service as the 2 gentlemen who seemed to be staffing the Den disappeared for 30 minutes at a time .... for four of us and no mention of my friends birthday (I didn’t make a fuss at the time as I didn’t want to spoil her day) 3 glasses of wine, 4 very, very (and I really mean it) very small sandwiches and an average selection of cakes it was £240 which, by even London standards was absolutely appalling. I have no issue at all for paying for exceptional service, great food and a good atmosphere (the decor was trying way to hard to be dark and ironic and for afternoon tea, it just didn’t work we had neither here. Don’t waste your money.

Gorgeous. Chic. Artwork that is quirky and will keep the kid in you entertained, décor that's visually gorgeous but also actually super comfy, music and ambience set to 'perfect for chilling out', and quick service of really good food. When looking for a quiet den, this is it. If you're out as a happy noisy bunch of friends, don't bring your noise here. Dietary Menu: They are totally on it. Really decent gluten and dairy free options for afternoon tea. And their approach to it made me feel comfortable that if I had other requirements they'd be all over that too. Afternoon tea is NEVER reasonably priced for what you're getting so once you get over that, and remember that you're in London, add this place to your safe list and come here. Also, a bird might escape from it's cage, but it never goes that far from home. Go. Then this will make sense.
