Closed on a Friday?! What the hell

Large Haddock and chips take away on a Friday about 6pm. Terrible, if I could give a rating of zero stars I would. 😡

Lately the food has been very fresh, very hot , tasty and reayd promptly. In the past sometimes service was a little slow but recently service has been prompt, food has been excellent, like really, really good chips, so hot, dry (not greasy) and tasty. Well done and thank you. And the staff have been friendlier, more human and smiling which helps a lot!

Always get our chips from here. Decent size and tastes delicious 😋

Staff are always polite, friendly and efficient and food is consistently good. Can't fault them.

Terrible customer service! Tell you to come down to order, you arrive and then they go back on what they said 5 minutes later and say because they're closing early... Terrible customer service and will not use again. Much better fish and chips elsewhere.

Great take away food with a good vegan selection and a seprate vegan fryer. Very impressed will definitely be back.

Nice chip shop nice owner great food

My first visit to the Lemon Place as we've move to Shefford recently. What can I say, medium chips is the biggest portion of chips I've ever seen especially for one, so either a ½ portion or small next time - great tasting food, friendly staff and value for money. All in all great chip shop and I'll be back as and when.

Fish and chips not great, will not rush back there any time soon. I think there standards have slipped. Sorry, but that's what we found.

Delicious takeaway for 8 people. It was all very tasty, and everyone enjoyed it.

I was her few years ago. Rude staff with No customer services skills and yes they can't even heat up curry sauce in a microwave. Have you learned how to heat up curry sauce yet?

The food is mostly very good. The ladies and chap behind the counter are friendly, so there are no complaints there. But we are now getting to the point that you're going to need a small loan to feed a family there. Clean and tidy but bloody expensive

If you ask they will cook anything they have in the shop and it will be ready in 10mins

I travel all over UK and a little disappointed in the price of a small piece of cod and chips £9.25. Although nice I'll be looking for another chip shop in the area

I don’t know what you guys are eating for this chippy to have such a high rating. The food was hot but had no taste what so ever. Chips were still caped in oil. The curry sauce looks like someone’s sick. The batter for the cod is like pancake mix. They must of fished it out the canal it was that small, Threw it away and didn’t even get half way through it. What a waste of money.

Food was hot- if its busy and you que then it's because they do great food.

Food is always fresh and hot. Lovely staff, they always talk to my daughter every time we go in. You can order via just eat and collect, which is super handy when we have family visiting as they can see the menu. The sausages are the best we've ever had from a chippy. The fish and scampi are beautiful too, and great portions, too. Recommended 100%. Lucky to have such a lovely chip shop in town

Great chips and unbeatable curry sauce

I won a meal for 4 at the shefford Xmas raffle. Thought I'd try it out as I heard they do gluten free fish and chips. I've got to say it was absolutely lovely. I haven't had fish and chips in years and this was well worth the wait. I've been back since as well. Again, absolutely lovely. If you are gluten free, I can recommend.

Great tasting chips, sausage and curry sauce. Their staff was quick, friendly and efficient. Only downside is their fish isn't particularly pleasant. The fish often had a lot of bones in which particularly ruins it for me. The batter is nice, golden and crispy.

We have used this place three times in the last year. All not good experiences. What’s the point of a telephone if they don’t answer it. Had the wrong food wrapped up which of course you don’t realise until you get home. Then have to go back. The fish is always dry and is absolutely not cooked fresh. I’m not the only one saying this. Portion sizes vary every time. More chips shouldn’t constitute to a smaller fish. It’s local but will go further afield in future.

Now I'm not one for bad mouthing business but this afternoon. I waited outside 15 minutes before opening st 4:30. Ordered half chips and medium cod twice. To the shock to find out the fish was from the lunch time. I am a fish person and I know 100% the fish was no fresh. The cod was cold, dry, no smell or grease all the signs it was not fresh. What was the point in queuing up before opening. Normally with this chip shop you'd have to wait 10-15+ minutes to get your order. Times are hard for businesses but it be harder when customers don't return. I don't expect to pay £20 to not eat my food. Disgusting I must admit and I keep saying I won't go back but this was the last straw. I can't support this local business anymore. I'm not the only whose had multiple bad meals from here. You do try and to help and support local independent businesses but I'd rather go somewhere else from now on.

Fantastic food (inc gluten free fish) and I'm a fussy food lover. Portion size was excellent (more than enough in fact) and service was great. Possibly best fish and chips for miles.

First visit and was so disappointed as the queue was so long and it looked so popular. Our fish was overcooked and very dry, we ordered 2 cod and 1 haddock. Not sure if they were cooked and left wrapped as there was a big pile behind in boxes or just bad cooking, but won't be going again.

Good quality fish and chips. They do Gluten Free and skinless if you wish. Haloumi as well. Lovely food. Don't expect enormous fish, even the large is moderately sized; but actually it's plenty with the large chip portions and if it's quality over quantity you want, it's the "Plaice" for you. Web site and just eat delivery if required.

A chip shop on a friday night having to wait for 40 minutes for the food they are so unorganised and don't no what they are doing and waiting in your car for them to wave your number pitty really as could be a little gold mind if run by the right person

Haven’t had a take away fro here in a long time and won’t ever again. Ordered cod roe and chips and the portion of cod roe was very disappointing. It was very thin with very little batter covering it.

This is the closest chip shop to us but we still have to travel from lower stondon by vehicle. It frustrates us so much that yet again we paid for two portions of curry sauce and yet again they forgot to put it in our order. This is the 3rd time they have done this. Called them to let them know no answer but our dinner would have gone cold if we had returned to complain. Another planned takeaway ruined. We appreciate they are busy on a Saturday night but more care needs to be placed into each order.

Absolutely delicious, delivered on time. Stuffed, portion size was lovely. Medium chips enough for 2 people. I would recommend this fish and chip shop.

Consistently small portions- even when you ask for large fish, you nearly always get small.

Had a medium fish and half a bag of chips for £6.15 which I thought was very reasonable for the location. The fish was the skin on type and very fresh and the chips were proper traditional style. I will definitely be back if passing through the area again.

The fish is so small it's disgusting. Called there on the way home, never again. Wondered why the shop was empty and no one waiting. Back to henlow fish bar for us, you get so much more for your money and it's tastier.bearing in mind that's a small plate in the picture

Ignore the notorious google fake reviews on here....food is fresh and tasty from this chippy and staff are always friendly. When will google take some responsibility for what they publish - it damages the local busineeses we all love !

Dropped in last week on the way home from work, always loved the look of this place, brings back memories of going to the chippy with my mum when I was a kid, has that 80s look, from the business cards on the wall to the sweetie vending machines. But I love how clean it all looks, and well looked after to. Anyway simple order from me, sausage in batter, saveloy and chips. Well the chips for me were perfect, snappy crunch and fluffy in the middle and not to many in a portion. The best I have had in a long time, top marks. But hey...where’s the sausage!!! Has to be the worlds smallest sausage in batter, the batter was light and crispy but the sausage lacked flavour. Saveloy was done how I like it crispy and not kept in a bath of warm water, but stone cold. So as I say chips heaven the rest not there for me yet, but I’ll be back to try the fish.

Hit them on the right day and you're in for a proper treat, can be a bit hit or miss but I've been very lucky and had decent fish and chips almost every visit, worth trying.

Excellent fish & chips at a good price! ! Have recently arrived in Shefford and this was our first time with The Lemon Plaice and it will not be our last !! I called to ascertain the ordering process which was clearly explained ie there may be a wait on arrival depending on numbers of customers in the shop plus availability of chips. Things went smoothly and our large haddock ( a good size), one scampi(advised on the phone that this was based on weight and was likely to be 7 to 10 pieces - it was 8) plus large chips were excellent ! We found the large chips too big for 2 adults and will probably opt for medium next time. Thanks TLP team !

Fish and chips beautifully cooked and not soggy and oily

Very popular on a Saturday night but food was still great quality. Light, crispy batter and chip portions very generous.

I've never tried cheesey chips and believe me I was addicted, portion size is great extremely value for money. Great service and very good food.

Often go here on my lunch break at work! Chips are the nicest I have ever had from a chippy and you wouldn’t meet nicer staff, always friendly!

Waited patiently for 10 minutes to be acknowledged by the girl behind the counter, who I could see was busy with orders. A simple hello and I'll be with you as soon as I can would have been fine. The other staff were equally uninterested in serving so I left without ordering in the end. Very disappointed.

Never had a bad meal. Will continue our weekly visits. Prices are very reasonable. Portion sizes are good. Staff are very polite. Waiting times are reasonable, especially at busier times. The wait is worth it. Every is wrapped well so everything is piping hot. A very nice chippy.

Want fish and chips? This is the place to go

Waited at counter to be served for 5 minutes to just be ignored by all three of the staff. Didn't get to try the food. Won't be going back Can't stand handing over my money to rude people. Shame as we are a group working local for next few weeks so they realistically lost about 150 quid worth of business. Very silly work attitude.

Not the best chips and on I Friday I doNt expect curry sauce to be microwave cooked! Was just a lump of gloup in a tub had to explain a 3 person order over and over even though they a printed receipt All 3 went in the bin first and last time we visit

The best plaice and chips I've had for ages. Tasty fish, crispy batter and not too thick or oily and yummy chips. Still piping hot when opened after a 6mile journey home £7.00 well spent

Always great food and they don't charge too much like the others seem to. Plus, I'm vegetarian, and they have decent options. Battered halloumi and chips rocks! Oosh!
