The Legstraps in Bedford

1st we ordered drinks, mine a tomato juice No ice with Worcestershire sauce, my drink arrived with ice and a catering bottle of sauce. Food 80% there & tasty & hot. 3 of us ordered Lamb, I asked for mint sauce & was told “sorry we have run out!” it amazes me how a restaurant in a village couldn’t just go to a local shop & buy some when they knew they were running short, especially when there are only 3 choices for a Sunday lunch one being Lamb. The waitresses seemed to be in their own little world with very little interest in who they were serving. We had to go and ask for the bill after waiting for a while, when she bought it over before we had looked at it I was asked “Do you want the card machine? Shame as the potential for a good restaurant is here but they definitely need some staff training if they want to proceed & keep up with the other eateries in the area. It’s very rare for me not to leave a gratuity but in this instance I felt it was totally undeserved.

Very Disappointing… have enjoyed this restaurant for Sunday lunch over the years. Not sure what has happened but the changes don’t work. No table service anymore !, not what I expect for this type of restaurant. We then waited 45 minutes for our lunch after I chased them up. My veg was soggy and overcooked, the roast potatoes were dry. The toilets weren’t clean you could see black all around the inside rim. Sorry but I won’t be returning.

Admittedly having previously frequented this establishment over the years , due to a combination of poor food and equally poor service we’d taken our customer elsewhere over the last couple of years however due to the recent flooding and closure of the A421 we wanted somewhere fairly easy to get to and with some trepidation decided to give it another try and made our reservation. On entering we notified the staff member of our booking , we were not kept waiting long and shown to our table , whilst doing so it was explained we could order via the QR code or at the bar and drinks etc would be brought to our table which is what we opted for . We both ordered steak but they’d run out of fillet so we ordered one rump and one sirloin , sauces selected were the blue cheese and peppercorn . While waiting we did note the bar area and restaurant were both buzzing but after about 40 minutes we asked more than once when we could expect our order , in the end it was an hours waiting time . That said both our meals were very good , the steaks had been well rested so no blood leaking out into the nicely cooked home chips and salad which can be off putting . The sauces were full of flavour and really complimented the steaks . The staff member apologised for the longer than usual wait for our food and we did also note the waitress was earning her money as tables were cleared very promptly as diners vacated their tables . All in all we had a pleasant experience and would return at some point however we were not keen on the QR code system as this restaurant is not the cheapest so I’d expect a more personal service especially in light of us having to ask about the time our order was taking . I’m sure this may suit some diners popping in for burgers & chips etc but not for special occasions .

The staff were very helpful , however we were never asked if we wanted a pudding so we had one at home! They say the state of the loo’s tell you about the restaurant…….. I say no more!

I have been here twice this month and on both occasions the food has been amazing. The main meals were generous and full of flavour and the charceuteri share board had some gorgeous cured meats and cheeses. Staff really friendly and it has a lovely atmosphere. Well worth a visit

Great place for a drink and food

Had a lovely lunch with my friend today. She had Caesar Salad, I had salad nicoise. Lovely fresh ingredients, generous portions and delicious. Only down side was too full to order a dessert!

Have visited previously albeit a few years ago Used to be more of a gastro pub but now seems more of a drinkers pub with grub Old table service been replaced with order at the bar or scan and use your phone . However food prices are still high and the quality is simply not there any more We had beef lamb and chicken Sunday dinner priced at £21.95 a head The food was not seasoned and very bland . Definitely reheated frozen catering food - nothing on the plate required any actual Cooking The lamb was very poor and actually crunchy ! The pigs in blankets extremely poor and dried out - I have added a photo for reference I did air my complaints whilst there and the young manager did not refute my comment that it was all frozen / although the pigs in blankets were apparently a bad batch - therefore they shouldn’t have even been brought to the table The place was very quiet while we were there with just a few other tables occupied and a few having a drink in the garden . This is somewhere to go if you want a burger or fish and chips and a pint , not a nice meal with family . Cutlery wrapped in paper napkins , sarsons vinegar and Heinz ketchup bottles on the table and a cheap fake flower stuck into a dusty glass holder doesn’t work for the prices they charge

Being our local pub we decided to have our anniversary lunch here. The pub has recently undergone a menu change and become a lot less formal in its dining area. I have to say these are great changes ! Right, on to the food. Our starters of Belly Pork and Meatballs were both generous and very flavoursome ! For our main course we opted for the Flintstones Feast With 24oz Fore Rib Flintstone Steak, Hand Cut Chips, Smoked Bone Marrow Gravy, Beer Battered Onion Rings & Mac n' Cheese - ordered the steak rare and WOW it was cooked to perfection. Equally the accompaniments that came with the steak were great as well. The chips !!! Superb. Compliments to the chef. I would like to thank the staff for the great service offered throughout our meal. I look forward to visiting again soon. Thanks Nick

If you haven’t yet tried the new menu at The Legstraps, then I highly recommend you do! We went yesterday for our wedding anniversary. We don’t like having a Sunday Roast out (bit biased but mine are the best 😳🤣🤣🤣) so it was good to go somewhere that still did a full menu, along side a roast dinner if you wanted! We shared a couple of the small bowls for starters; the pork belly and the meatballs, and both were lush 😋. They were still moist and full of flavour. We weren’t going to have steak as we’d had it the night before, but the Flintstone Feast sharer sounded too good to refuse!!! And it was the best decision as it was amazing 🤩 🤤. The steak was cooked to perfection and it was so tender. The mac and cheese had just the right amount of goo and stickiness to it, the chips were proper chips and delish and the green beans were so flavoursome 🤤 The staff were brilliant and kindly gave us a box to take the left over steak home from the very generous portion. Yes, it would be nice if it was full waiter service, but that’s only a very very small negative (if you can either call it that!!). We went to the bar to order, but that was it! I had mentioned it was our wedding anniversary on my booking and they had done a nice little slate decoration 🥰. Overall, it was a fab meal and we both highly recommend it 😋🤤🥰

Walked up the road to the Straps. Not been to eat in a while and knew they had changed the way they operated. The place itself was as nice as normal, the young lady that served us was great at her job and a pleasure to deal with. Food was awesome, service great. All in all we both had a lovely meal/time Thanks to you guys Small bowls to start. I had squid, wife had fish cakes. Mains the wife had what she called the best ribs ever and I had the Woburn ham plus egg n chips. All cooked beautifully and presented well. Too full for dessert!!

The reinvention that this place has undergone has made it worse. I have been here before in its previous existence: food was ok and the service good - it was overpriced for what it was though. You can now order at the bar (which is fair enough), or use a QR code - we went for this option and that was a major mistake to make! We ordered our main course and drinks, these did not arrive until I did get up to go and check with the bar if we needed to pick them up - we did not, but they had been overlooked. The QR system has its merits but surely you should be able to start a tab and then pay for all that you consumed during your meal at the end. However, the system is set up that once you make the order you have to pay straight away - this means multiple payments for a meal. As such. from possibly having us having a starter, main course and number of drinks, we had a main course and a drink each. The food was utterly bland and while the young lady that brought us the food was pleasant, the point is there really is not much service going on - is this yet another effect of Brexit Britain (as you can't get waitressing staff) or was the revamp done solely with the purpose of cost cutting by reducing staff members? Either way it makes the eating experience simply poor. Alas, I don't foresee a return to this place in a very near future. The food is nothing to write about (bland), the service quality has declined and the prices are surely not any lower than they were before. A shame.

Only went for drinks but since the renovation/design change its much better, steps throughout so had to lift pram up. Changing facilities in womens toilet are available but reeccommend using your own changing mat.

Went Sunday, ordered fish went through but then told no fish, ok that happens so then chose brisket burger, again told no brisket! Eventually had the legstraps burger which was ok. My first visit so a bit disappointing, perhaps it was just unfortunate. I have to say the roast looked good

We have visited this pub quite a few times over the years. It used to be quite a fine dining pub with really great food, but this is the first time we have been back in a few years. The menu has changed to a more gastro pub type food. I had tuna nicoise salad, and my wife had the Legstraps burger. She said the burger was really good and the salad I had was good as well, apart from the tuna being slightly overcooked. Overall a really good pub with friendly staff and a good atmosphere. I would recommend visiting The Legstraps.

Well what a let down. New system is awful. Some of the food isn't on the app (salads), no wine list, sat right next to the only other occupied table in the resturant (when we arrived) had to collect own drinks. Limited menu most of which you can get via fast food outlets. Also no cutlery provided when the food was served and had to ask for it at the bar. Won't be back

Lovely evening at The Leg Straps yesterday. Haven't been since last year and was keen to check out the changes that the team have recently made. They are perfect: new decor, menu, and an app to order food etc from your table!! SOOO much better. I was really glad to see that the bar area was clearer, making it less intimidating to walk through for my wife (something she didn't like before), the food was great - I'm very partial to a burger and this one was awesome. It's just a shame the toilets haven't been sorted - that would make it an amazing place!! But we will definitely be back soon!! Thanks guys.

The new look is so much better. It was well needed. The QR code ordering is so much easier and the new menu has way more choice for the whole family. The village didn’t need a high end dining place, it just needs a friendly and clean pub with good food and this is exactly what it does. Staff are also great and all seem to be locals which is also a lovely touch. Friendly atmosphere, great vibes and yummy food, what more could you ask for from your local pub?!

Visited for the first time last week while visiting a friend who recently moved to Wootton. The food was lovely and the cheese board was very generous. Will definitely be returning in the future.

Birthday get together with family and friends, absolutely amazing time and the staff were wonderful. I work in hospitality my self as an Ops Manager and nothing I can fault to this pub.

Very good place to eat, drink and relax to be honest, staff was very friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a good time! I will definitely go again!!!

we visited for the first time last night for my birthday celebration, and from the moment we arrived. The entire experience was faultless. Food was delicious and plentiful. The waiting staff were attentive and helpful, the setting is lovely. We have a selection of mini plates (arancini, Cajun chicken, squid and meatballs) and for mains I had mussels (which came with the most delicious bread of butter and dill fries), and my husband had fish and chips. Couldn’t have asked for a nicer place to spend my birthday - and I really appreciated the little touch of our waitress wishing me a happy birthday and decorating the table with a birthday mat, little touches mean a lot.

This pub was recommended to us by our friends who have been before for a nice lunch but traffic was bad so turned up at 2.40pm, we were told it finishes lunch at 3pm and I checked going in on the door and it says 3pm but the young girl behind the bar said lunches are finished, I said we were told 3pm she checked with the kitchen or manager and they still said no which we felt not good, so we left and had a lovely meal at another pub which was excellent, they were not busy and I felt not very good considering competition and we will be now going to the pub we gave our custom

Nice pub. Good food. Very well presented. The staff looked after us very well. We had the private room, it was intimate for 8 of us with a nice atmosphere and when we closed the door we felt very relaxed and cut off from the world with very little ambient noise, good for talking and not having to shout. Location was nice and rural without the hustle and bustle of a busy road.

I had the lamb roast, and whilst tasty I was shocked by the portion size…at £20 I expected more than 2 small pieces of lamb, 2 roasties, 1 carrot, 1 parsnip, a smidgen of mash and red cabbage…cauli cheese was a welcome addition but left still hungry, disappointing 👎🏻

Went to see Tom Korni play acoustic set in pub. Pub packed lots of locals. Nice atmosphere and friendly.

Brilliant service, staff were excellent. My starter and dessert were absolutely delicious. A bit disappointed in my main - veggie Wellington, not many distinguishable vegetables in it and the sauce wasnt to my taste. Everything else wonderful though

Me and my partner went to The Legstraps for the 2 for £30 steak night. The rump steak is one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. It came with chips, mushrooms, tomato, garnish and a bone marrow sauce. The steak was cooked to perfection. We enjoyed some of the small dishes for starters, arancini and crispy Cajun chicken. We also had the Wednesday wine deal, buy 2 glasses and get the rest of the bottle free. This worked out so well with our steak and was a really nice Pinot Grigio. The staff were friendly as ever, it was a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely come again for the steak deal night. Lovely meal again at The Legstraps.

Used to go here for burgers and it was great. Unfortunately it is under new management and the food was abysmal. Had 5 starters and they were so poor my wife and I didn’t finish one dish. They had all clearly been deep fried and garnished with a bit of rocket but that did little to disguise the lack of flavour. Either the chef had NEVER tasted that’s food or he just didn’t care. Honestly I have eaten some awful food in many countries the world but this was up there. My wife and I used to love popping in there for delicious pint and a burger but those days have clearly gone. Such a shame

Good choice of menu and wine. Steak was cooked really well- just as requested. Veggie option limp and lacking in flavour. Service was mixed- our waitress was excellent, others not so much, need more training.

Superb food and customer service. Peaceful location, free parking at the back and comfortable outside tables. They do not have any Disabled parking or accessible toilets - just something to be aware of if attending this venue.

Stunning Sunday dinner, such a refreshing change for a restaurant to offer lamb. My dad and husband had the beef and commented on how lovely it was. We can also recommend the ‘lighter bites’ as a tapas started for all! Can’t wait to come back. My 4 year old cleared his plate of MeatBalls and Pasta; he’s never cleared a plate in his life.

Very good quality steak, well prepared and cooked accompanied by good service. The ambiance is really good. We would certainly come back.

Excellent all round. The service was good, the staff were friendly and helpful. Our sandwiches were very tasty and a good size with plenty of filling. However, the chips stole the show, truly superb. Crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside. Honestly, some of, if not the best chips I have had(after my Nans, but none come close to hers). Great lunch all round.

The restuarant is local to us so can walk, making it very convenient. We looked at the menu online so ensure something for us both, and saw a new chef has just started. We were a little surprised when given just a bar menu, I questioned this and was told until the chef had settled in. I get all of the above, but think it a little unclear when the online menus say one thing when the reality was fairly limited. Having said all that, the service and food was very good and I am sure the new chef will make a success of the place. I would have given a Good rather than Average if it existed in the options above, I couldtn bring myself to pick Very Good as the limited options did impact our experience. I think in future I would call to book and ask if any issues rather than relying on them being clear online

Overall we had a nice lunch here and especially appreciated the dog friendly welcome but there was a few things that weren’t quite up to par. I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out medium well and also stone cold. The chips were beautifully crispy so I forgave the overcooked steak. The ham with the ham, egg and chips was really fatty. Very friendly place though.

It was OK. Sort of 4/10. Service mediocre but better than the food. Didnt warrant a complaint but was close. Given other reviews on here, it was disappointing. Wouldn't return and wouldn't recommend. Far better pub-restaurants out there.

Visited the Legstraps recently for the first time since before the pandemic, and were impressed with both the service and the food. We chose a sharing platter from the bar menu, and it was absolutely delicious.

Don't order the seafood platter. There are 2 prices. £10 and £20. Shocker, 2 small prawns in shells, 2 pieces of Salmon, bit of mackerel and a few cockles out of a jar and...a couple of small rolls. Too much Marie Rose sauce. Extremely disappointing.

Expensive for what you get. The food was very good but the prices were high, £20+ for most main courses and £9 for desserts. My main course was very tasty but not enough on the plate. We always compare the price of fish and chips across places we go to and at the Legstraps it is £19.50, more than anywhere else we have seen locally. £9 for a crumble also seems very expensive. It is a pub with food not a fine dinning restaurant so quite casual and with people walking through to the garden.

Duck breast was cooked just right. Very welcoming as we hadn't booked a table. Well kept beer too

This pub is almost half way between us and a friend so we each drove for an hour or so to meet and have what was meant to be a special lunch on my birthday. Neither of us had been there before, but the set lunch menu looked very appetising. However, when we arrived (at 12.30 on a Thursday), we were told the set lunch wasn't available. No mention of that on the website, and as I had booked online, they had my contact details and could easily have let me know if it was just a one-off. It was too late by then to go anywhere else, especially as we weren't familiar with the area, so we settled for burgers and chips. Nice ones, and well cooked, but not what I would have chosen for a birthday meal!

We enjoyed a really good meal at The Legstraps in Wootton on 14 February with a bottle of wine and apero. The food was excellent and the staff helpful. We treated ourselves to the côte de boeuf for two, fabulous. The chef helpfully cut it up at the table when we asked for a bigger knife. Starter - a shared fish platter - also excellent, as were our desserts. Worth the drive and the price - you can easily spend as much on an inferior meal elsewhere.

I was attracted by the good review so we chosed this pub. It is very disappointing and I feel obligated to tell others of our experience of the food. The service is good though. The soup of the day was extremely extremely salty. I like to urge the chef/cook to try it himself! The skin of the seabass was soft and not crispy at all. He could have torched it if he cares, instead of serving it like that. I did not eat the slimmy skin. The grilled mediterranean vegetables should be fine except a piece of onion nearest to the outer skin was served and I had no choice but to push it out. I do not undertand why the cook put lots of cress on everything when it does not serve any purpose and are of no taste at all.

Excellent food. Perfect portions. Masses of gluten free options. Gorgeous vegan ice-cream and dessert wine. I'd have liked a few more options on a Sunday, (I'm not that much of a Sunday roast fan, but it was good food, all the same). I'm not vegan, but was trying to avoid saturated fats.

Wonderful dinner- really happy with the service and quality food. The wild boar was delicious and exceeded my expectations, followed by a fig pavlova with nut brittle which was divine. All of us had a fabulous meal with a hope we will be back again...

Having visited this idyllic village pub for a Saturday lunch, we were extremely disappointed to find filthy outside tables, covered in food, drink & cigarette ash, food inedible but charged extortionate prices but above all, management to be unprofessional and patronising…..clearly customer service and satisfaction...

Had a fabulous meal this evening at The Legstraps. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Excellent selection of wine and gin. The food was fabulous! I had the pork fillet and it was delicious and so tender. Well done chef and team!

Delicious food, but service a bit slow

Went for our wedding anniversary meal. Welcomed and escorted to our nice quiet table with a little plaque saying Happy Anniversary. Orders taken quickly. The starters were lovely and then the steaks arrived. We both said that we had never had such a tender, tasty steak in England before. It was absolutely fantastic! I made a mistake with my desert, a creme brulee. It was far too sweet and cloying and I could only eat a couple of spoonful. It was tasty but far too rich for me. Next time, and there will be a next time, I shall choose something a little less filling. All in all a lovely evening and we will go back again. I would recommend anyone to try The Legstraps.

We visited here on a Friday evening at 6.30 the car park was packed & we thought the restaurant would be full, but no! everyone was drinking in the bar or outside, the restaurant had 2 tables of people eating, I can now understand why....

I really enjoyed myself here today, the BBQ was great with lots of verity of meats. There was a great atmosphere, I will come again. The music was great.
