Breakfast was ok and is served early in the morning which makes the place ideal for one who needs to get into town for early business. The options are not many but it would do for someone looking for some simple breakfast. I I used the hotel again I would eat here again. I did not see any other places nearby serving breakfast anyway.

We stayed one night for a family event nearby. Noticed the bar area downstairs to be quite rowdy already when we checked in, and when we left for the event at 7pm the place was swarmed with people and there were bouncers on the door?! We arrived back a few hours later to people staggering around the car park and music blaring. The noise of people shouting and singing continued until 12.30am.. every word could be heard clearly as we laid there in despair. The smell of cigarette smoke wafted through our window (which sadly we had to have open due to how ridiculously hot it was) which only completed the ambience. You'd think some sort of heads up would be mentioned on booking.com, or indeed at check in, given that people tend to book hotels to get some sleep. Another thing we weren't made aware of was our room was connected to the neighbouring room through a door which we suspected not to be locked. Quite unnerving given the potential clientele staying in the hotel that night. Not to mention our room was dusty, the pillow covers were dirty, the bed was not king size as advertised but a double. The mugs and tea spoons dirty, bath taps covered in slimy mould, kettle full of limescale, ceiling lamp about to fall out of the ceiling, and the walls were paper thin. Honestly made Travelodge seem luxurious. Great stay.

OK firstly, it could be a great hotel, it just needs ATD and a bit of money spending on the rooms. Our room was small with no room to move and very hot even with windows open. A fan can be had for a deposit I suggest you just put it in the room!. Lack of plug sockets, rediculous small TV, dated bathroom. Couple major things.. It was sorta clean. Plenty of dust on skirting boards behind bed and picture frames and rickety haphazard wardrobe. Bed double but small. Mismatched cups (dirty) and saucers, small kettle. Matress protector but no pillow protectors. Pillows badly stained asked for them to be replaced or double covered. When returned same pillows new cover not double had to sleep on the towel over which.. U only get 2 bath towels unless you ask. So pillows awfull and my ask not conveyed or executed. Other rooms looked bigger ones at back too small and walls so thin. Bathroom so dated but at least shower worked. Could be a great hotel with a bit of cash spent to update. Pubs OK parking good. Defo not worth £75 a night sorry. ATD needed

I am a medium to long term resident at the lawns hotel I am currently staying here on business as an aircraft contractor currently working with Rolls Royce. What first attracted me was the distance to work but what made me stay was the high level of service of the staff.... In particular the bar staff all are exceptional however amelia the bar manager and lenny the gentleman serving drinks at the bar go above and beyond to make my business stay feel as home like as possible. They alter dishes to suit my fussy high protein vegan requirements and are forever checking if there's anything they can assist with to make my stay more enjoyable than it is. They are just down right impressive! I recommend anyone to stay at this establishment for the reasons of business or pleasure due to the comfort of the rooms the comforting concerns of the staff, amazing food, shout out to the chefs! And the great ale they serve. Highly recommend from someone who had stayed in hotels all around the world working from Amsterdam to Abu Dhabi the value for money here is next to none. Book it you and will not regret it.

Jordan was great, even ordered us a take away! Can't praise him enough. 1st morning we both had a full English which was extra but well worth it. Massive portions and really great quality produce. 2nd morning I had the included continental breakfast. Cereal, yoghurt, warm pastries and toast. I was stuffed. Hubby had cheese and mushroom omelette which he said was good. The room was quite small but good for our needs. We had a great stay and would definitely recommend The Lawns

Positives- the staff were friendly and courteous and the ‘cocktail lounge’ was nice enough but unfortunately this is probably one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. Terrible smell of damp. The room was so dated, a clock hanging off the wall that didn’t work, no air con, no fridge, old furniture, the bed sagged in the middle - the guest beds mattress was smaller than the frame, the toilet on arrival was dirty and no toilet paper, the bathroom was so small, my knees squashed against the sink when using the toilet and I’m 5ft 2! - the thermostat on the shower went from boiling to freezing. The requested ironing board wasn’t assembled so had to put it together before using it. It needs a complete overhaul and for almost a £100 per night!! Let’s hope they use the money to hire a skip and get renovating.

Refused meal wanted replacement waited almost an hour for the replacement meal to turn up salad now had peppers in it fries where hard in the middle and the steaks again over cooked.

The door and hand drier have been broken for months. There are no paper towels, not good when trying to attract decent diners that love to wash their hands and have some door locking privacy for said ablutions?. My boyfriend booked this as an over night stay for us online, After traveling 3 hours we were surprised to turn up at a busy bar/pub with loads of loud people drinking outside in the car park and garden/terrace. Not exactly what we were expecting as it’s described as a hotel online. To check in you have to go to the main bar which isn’t ideal due to how busy it was. We were to late to order food, but were offered sandwiches, takeaway menus and given directions to the shops. The room we were given (10) was tiny. No where to put things, the kettle was on the corner of the cramped bedside table. Not really any room to get dressed, tiny little tv on the wall etc.. however the bed was super comfortable and big. The noise of the bar was annoying and we didn’t get to sleep until 1:30am ish, we had an early start the next day so this wasnt ideal. The breakfast service was great however they could do with more vegetarian options. They also have walk-ins and are open to the public as well as the guests. The lady on breakfast service was lovely, she checked on us a few times and asked if we needed drink refills etc. The full English could do with being a bit bigger but looked pretty well cooked. My boyfriend liked it. There was a range of cereal, fruit, jam and juices laid out to help yourself to. The place is overall clean and friendly but could do with marketing itself as what it is as it’s a bit misleading.

Sadly spoilt be the locals, who seem to think that the only thing in life is to shout as loud as they can and dress in beachwear in the evening when some people have made the effort to look decent. Stayed for 2 nights on B&B; basis with dinner on the first night. We were shown to our room which has been refurbished and we were pleasantly surprised. Very modern and clean, the only negative was the size of the bedroom, quite small with very little storage space. Bathroom was very nice with lovely toiletries and large shower. Dinner in the very busy restaurant was superb with some lovely and unusual choices on the menu. Portions were huge and quality excellent. We had a couple of drinks in the very busy bar after dinner, prices being reasonable for a hotel. We had breakfast both mornings, plenty of choice on the buffet table, juices, cereals, fruit etc plus full English freshly cooked and waitress served. All the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to help. Located a few miles from Derby town centre, there is a bus stop on the main road and it is only a 25 minute journey. Would definitely recommend.

Being in a couple I chose the larger double room. When I got there it was clear that compared to the size of the other rooms we were given a much smaller room despite paying for a larger room. The TV was tiny too! The kettle was squeezed onto the bed side table and hardly any room to walk at the side of the bed. Being so cramped meant we were hot and uncomfortable which resorted in a bad nights sleep. The plus side to our stay was the breakfast and the service at breakfast. 14 of us booked for an overnight stay at The Lawns.. it was booked using a Wowcher deal. We stayed overnight on the 20th May. We arrived mid afternoon and sat in the bar area. They bar staff were very welcoming and the atmosphere was great. Included in the deal was a 3 course evening meal from a separate menu. There was a good choice of food on the menu. The food was served in the dining area next to the bar. The quality of the food was amazing bearing in mind what we had paid. The service was excellent.. a big shout out to Charles who was so patient and helpful. The staff were so efficient. The rooms were just upstairs from the dining area and they were all clean and well decorated. They included tea making facilities too. Also included was a breakfast. The orders were taken by a very friendly waitress and there was a good choice. There was fresh orange, cereal and you could choose between a variety of omelettes, salmon and scrambled egg or a full English. There was plenty of toast and as much tea and coffee as you liked. I had the full English and it was gorgeous. A brilliant hotel, excellent value for money, excellent food but above all very friendly and welcoming staff. Couldn't fault it. Also worth mentioning in each room there was a guide detailing local attractions. Check out was 11 30am.

From the outside its very welcoming with well kept flowers and beer garden.Inside, the bar was great with plenty of seating and a separate dining room...staff helpful and polite...we stayed in room 2 and although it was on the small size it was adequate for our needs though a shelf or something at the side of bed would be great as had to put drinks etc on the floor. We had a wowcher deal with 3 course meal and breakfast included....couldn't fault any of the food...hot, plentiful and definitely homemade!...steak pie was one of the best I've tasted!Would highly recommend a stay and I'm sure we will be back again!...

We booked as a family (couple with a baby) for one night. It was a beautiful day and the pub was busy with lots sat outside enjoying the sun. We don't often take our baby to pubs so I felt a but nervous, however it was a lovely atmosphere. I think it's a placed used by locals, they made a fuss over our baby and we felt really comfortable. The drinks menu is very reasonable and food wise I recommend the Brie. We stayed in room 7 which is beautiful with lots of space for a travel cot and the other 1001 the things a baby requires! The team there are lovely, from booking to checking out they couldn't do enough for you. My sister and her husband stayed the night before and also loved it. I would recommend this hotel and look forward to a return visit.

We were lucky enough to be invited to a good friend birthday party so we asked about nearby hotels and had The Lawns recommended. We actually stopped in the upper room of The Wendy House which was a self enclosed apartment. Wish I had taken some pictures of this as the room was lovely and the bed was very, very comfortable. Breakfast the next day was a full English and I can highly recommend this as well. All in all a very good hotel. Well done to the staff as well who all made us very welcome.

Had a free 3 course meal first night, (special wowcher menu lol) bar was exceptionally busy which shows it is popular with the locals. All staff very nice and friendly. Limited parking for guests but free parking on the road but we were able to move our car to the carpark later on at night. Room was furnished to a very high standard, unfortunately we could hear our neighbours and someone above us BUT I haven't been anywhere yet where I can't hear the other occupiers; I always take ear plugs as I'm a light sleeper anyway. Excellent cooked breakfast.

We booked one night through living social deal. When we arrived early the staff were enthusiastic and welcoming and as our room was ready let us go to it.Our room was great and cosy with a few nice little nik naks to make it feel homely. Tea/coffee facilities, hairdryer and bath products. It was spotless too, very clean. The three course meal on the night was absolutely fantastic. Big portions too. We were both stuffed by the end of it.The following morning breakfast was delicious.Overall though the thing that outshone most was the friendly staff who were enthusiastic and couldn't have done enough for us. They certainly made it a pleasant stay. Even trying to help us when we discovered a flat tyre the next morning! Would definitely visit again :)

This review could have been very different were it not for the excellent service and responsiveness of the staff. On arrival, my partner and I were allocated the smallest, pokiest room (Room 16) we had ever seen and, to add insult to injury, it was also dirty (dirty towels, used soap, full bin etc.). My partner complained and we were reallocated another room (Room 2) which was clean, comfortable and bright. Thankfully from this moment onwards things improved with an excellent three course dinner and a great cooked breakfast the next day.All staff were very helpful, attentive & apologetic, explaining that the problems had been due to a contractor working in the room shortly before arrival.Nonetheless, even if it had been clean Room 16 is unacceptably small and claustrophobic and it's hard to avoid the feeling that the proprietors have attempted to squeeze in too many rooms to maximise profit! But don't let this deter you from staying here; we would certainly return but would check up front which room we were to be staying in (1 and 2 are both excellent).Value for money was spot on: we paid £70 through Wowcher which for bed, 3 course meal and breakfast for two is excellent value in anyone's book.

Booked a couple of nights away through Wowcher - the value was so good (£99 for two nights plus a three course dinner on the first night and breakfast on both mornings!) we weren't expecting magic but we were blown away. The room was spotless and had an extremely comfortable bed - not a big room but we didn't need that. The food was absolutely outstanding - both the three course dinner and the breakfasts. Had a full english the first morning and a cheese, tomato and bacon omelette the second. Both - especially the omelette - were delicious, and the ladies were very attentive in topping up drinks, fetching more toast, finding the right Jam etc. The main person I have to commend, however, was Charles - whom I assume is the manager there. Extremely warm, welcoming and polite, he was eager to help with our local enquiries and was a genuinely delightful host throughout the weekend. It really makes so much difference.

Came here a few years ago, as we live local. The service wasn't great. It was as if they just couldn't be bothered. So after some years later we thought let's walk to the lawns agsin. We received a smile, but it was so forced you could tell it hurt. Inside of the establishment lacks imagination and I guess if it were not for the few locals this place really wouldn't have many punters. The outside area is nice enough, but wasn't helped this time with the hooped earing brigade having there drink on the way home from school with kids running around. In the 80s this place was one of the go to places. Certainly is far from that now. Shame really as it could be a great place.

Myself and three friends live in Chellaston and due to work and the kids getting older we don't see as much of each other as we used to so we decided to get together for tea at 'The Lawns' First of all we sat down in the bar area where we had to ask for some menus.....we then told the waitress about 2 of the guests being coeliac and we asked what they could eat, she told us it was more a case of what they wanted as the chef would adapt the food as they didn't have a specific menu .... This made us uneasy..... We told her that really we needed to know what was suitable and what wasn't, and with that she went off to speak to the chef!On her return she told us that coeliacs were 'Rare' at The Lawns and as it was a Monday we couldn't have the chips as the chef hadn't been in all weekend and there was only one fryer on..... However we could have the fish and chips, but as a poached bit of fish and without the chips, the chicken in prosciutto without the sauce and a steak with no chips and the gammon with no chips but could offer boiled/jacket potatoes/mash .....Not at all an appetising menu of food!! We could have cooked something more suitable at home! That said we left without ordering. We left feeling sad at the ignorance of being coeliac and sad that our 'Local' was so disappointing! And just to be clear, being coeliac is not at all rare with actually 1 in every 100 being diagnosed! You really do need educating in dietary requirements or you could end up with a lot of unwell guests! We actually ended up at the Crewe and Harper where there was a separate Gluten Free Menu and also a desert menu which was clearly explained by knowledgeable staff!

Lovely friendly waitress, good menu, well cooked hot food.Only concern was the length of time after finishing our meal that the waitress came back to give us our bill....... a dishonest person could have easily just got up and left without paying as it was a good 20-30 minutes after our plates were cleared before she came back to the table as it was quite late in the evening.

We have returned from a lovely weekend at this hotel. I cannot express enough just how polite, friendly and welcoming all of the staff were without exception. We stayed in Room 1. The room was spacious and clean, and very comfortable. The only slight problem was that there was a party in the function room. As it was a hot evening, we needed the windows open and this meant it was quite loud and we could clearly hear the music. However, with the windows closed this would not have been an issue. The food is lovely and locally sourced. We enjoyed two evening meals and two breakfasts (included in room price - what fantastic value!) and enjoyed the burger, meatballs and chicken tikka, and Full English breakfasts each morning. Staff, especially at breakfast, were very attentive and asked any special requirements, and kept the coffee mugs full and offered extra toast. Overall, the real winning quality for this hotel is the friendliness of the staff. We really were amazed by how lovely everyone was. We will definitely be back!

We have just stayed here for 2 nights. We arrived quite late on Friday evening so it was dark the road we came on was quite difficult to find the hotel as it wasn't very well signed posted. The car park was very busy but we did manage to get the last parking space so I don't know were we would have parked the car. We had to walk through the pub as there wasn't a check in desk you have to do that at the bar, so it's a bit uncomfortable walking through the restaurant when people are having there meal. We had a superior bedroom which was lovely but it only had a double bed in which lets it down. Bathroom was spotless clean towels and toiletries. Floorboards very squeaky so was quite noisy. Breakfast was very nice freshly cooked to order the waitress was lovely couldn't do enough for you. Bit disappointed on the Saturday evening though as we ordered our meal to find out they had run out of our choice then 2 of the beers had finished and couldn't make the cocktail I had chosen so in the end that spoilt it a little. The food was hot and very nice what we did have in the end so all in all not bad at all for the money. We booked through secret escapes but would go back.

We we taken to our room and shown around which you don't get on hotels now days and when the door opened WOW. The room wasn't overly big but it was beautifully decorated to a very high standard. We had dinner at The Lawns and the menu had plenty of choice and although we had pre booked dinner the prices seemed good a value. Food was excellent and we couldn't fault the service very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. It's not a place to go if you want a big night out although you could get a taxi into derby m, but If you want a quite night and great food is defiantly recommend The Lawns Hotel

Having visited the Lawns previously and had a pleasant meal, we were looking forward to an impromptu mid-week treat following a change of plans. As it was a sunny day the bar was empty with a few small groups drinking outside, despite this it took over an hour to get our food. My wife's food, the belly pork, was in her words very good, unfortunately my auld english steak was akin to old boot leather with the bacon wrapping essentially cremated, having not eaten all day I managed to choke it down unwilling to wait another hour to get a replacement. I did ask the assistant manager about the "steak" only to be told that was the only way to cook it... we ordered dessert against my better judgement, to include a chocolate orange cheesecake, that came with no chocolate... spoke to the waitress who simply said that was what the chef had given her... spoke to the assistant manager when it came to pay, only to be told that it had become very busy, incidentally after we'd eaten, and that the chef had pulled a "fast one". I don't feel that anyone actually took onboard our feedback, nor took actual responsibility seeking to place blame elsewhere. Unfortunately this will be the last time we visit, which is a real shame as these establishments are forever going under to be replaced by soulless chain restaurants.
