Very disappointing service, forgot or made errors with 2/3rds of our order after a wait of almost an hour. Then tried to charge a full service charge and were annoyed when we refused to pay this. Astonished this is rated a 5 star hotel What food was delivered was of a high standard

Overall a terrible experience. Things started badly when the waitress brought us the wrong menu. We then were brought the wrong wine menu, waited 30 minutes for a drink, 40 minutes for a starter then 1 hour 40 minutes for our main. By this point we had given up and didn’t even wait for our dessert that we prepaid for. Five star prices 1 star service sums it up.

I came for a weekend stay in Scotland and was rather surprised to find out this is an Italian restaurant. (The menu online was different) I was looking forward to some Scottish dishes. The food was great though. I had a seafood spaghetti, and the seafood were juicy and fresh. There was a bit of mixup with the order and the sparking water we ordered never arrived (we had to ask for it to be taken off the bill). Other than that I’d say it was a good meal.

My wife and I had lunch in the Bass Rock bar and it could not have been a more enjoyable experience. The team who looked after us were absolutely amazing. They were friendly, personable and paid attention to every detail.

We had a super dining experience in The Marine Hotel, enjoying afternoon tea in The Lawn restaurant. We enjoyed 3 tiers of delicious savoury treats, scones and cakes, far more than we could eat! There was a friendly greating from staff on arrival and the young waiters were very attentive. The spacious and nicely decorated restaurant itself enjoys magnificent panoramic views to the Bass Rock and across the Firth of Forth. Most definitely worth a visit for the great food, nice staff in relaxed surroundings.

When it comes to evening dining in North Berwick, options may be limited, but fortunately, the striking Lawn Restaurant at the Marine Hotel more than makes up for it, and their newly launched Italian menu is a very indulgent affair. Since I was driving, I enjoyed a non-alcoholic Aperol Spritz that tasted just as delightful as its alcoholic counterpart. Throughout the evening, there was also a generous selection of Italian red and white wines, expertly chosen by sommelier Phillipe from their extensive wine list. To start our culinary journey, we were presented with some of the most delectable Cerignola Green and Black olives, I have ever tasted. A true delight for the taste buds. These Italian olives are known for their large size and firm, meaty texture. Expect a buttery smoothness with a subtle sweetness that gently unfolds. They have a mild, nutty flavour with hints of almond and a faintly tangy finish. Overall, they offer a refined and understated taste that's incredibly satisfying. We were drooling from the onset - from slicing through the Burrata, courgette and mint scapece £12 with our knife as it gently broke through the delicate outer shell, revealing the creamy interior as it began to ooze out; to the flavour sensation that was the Chicken Valdostana with parma ham, pecorino cheese and bulla cheese £28. The chicken was tender and juicy, serving as the perfect canvas for the savoury, slightly salty Parma ham that enveloped it. The Pecorino cheese added a nutty sharpness, while the Bulla cheese introduced a rich, creamy undertone that bound the flavours together. Grilled Tiger Prawn in garlic, rosemary and a sweet and sour buffalo tomato confit £29 was a tantilising dish. The prawns were succulent and slightly charred, giving them a smoky flavour that blended harmoniously with the fragrant garlic and aromatic rosemary. The sweet and sour buffalo tomato confit added a burst of vibrant flavours, balancing the dish with its tangy sweetness and subtle acidity; whilst the Rosemary, truffle and parmesan Fries £8 are a must have side. Each big and chunky chip was a symphony of textures and flavours: the crunch of the fries, the depth of the truffle, the freshness of the rosemary, and the savoury hit of the cheese. Soft, salty and succulent Pork Meatballs were a massive hit whilst the Mussels Marinara £12 with tomato and chilli served with bruschetta was bursting with bold, vibrant flavours. Mixed leaf and herb salads £6 with parmesan shavings and shallot vinegar delivered a medley of fresh, vibrant flavours cleansing the palate for more food. There was plenty of pasta from casarecce to tagliatelli, to bucatini elegantly twisted around a pronged fork served tableside with lashings of parmesan to the most incredible Wild Mushroom Risotto with sage, pinenut and parmesan £22. There’s sourdough pizza’s too but with so much on offer, I never got round to tasting them. They looked scrumptious though with a thin base perfectly bubbled edges with more drool worthy toppings. The star of the show for me, without a doubt, was the Chateaubriand to share £90 served with creamed spinach, merlot reduction, salsa verde and bearnaise. Visually, it is a beautifully thick cut, seared to a perfect golden brown crust on the outside. Sliced, it revealed a warm, rosy-red centre that was incredibly inviting. The texture was tender and succulent, practically melting in your mouth with each bite. The flavour was rich and beefy, with a subtle juiciness that comes from the precise cooking. It's savoury, with hints of a slight smokiness from the sear, creating an indulgent and satisfying dish. The Lawn have excelled themselves with this menu. It’s possibly one of the best Italian menus I’ve had the pleasure of eating in recent years, in Scotland.

We loved your twilight spa offering. Incredible value in such an opulent setting. Gorgeous cocktails in the bar were too good to pass up, followed by a delicious charcuterie board...and the thermal suites were a lovely mid week pick-me-up.

It wasn't great to eat there either service it wasn't great either, the tables are too small. Food turned up pretty quick but was almost cold. I've asked for the steak to be medium rare. And it wasn't.

Food is always excellent. I understand the more historic complaints about service, but this has improved markedly since the first time I ate here and is now very good. A few more vegetarian/vegan options would be welcome. Great cocktails and a nice atmosphere in the bar. Give it a try, despite the earlier negative reviews.

I enjoyed a very special Saturday dinner here. The restaurant is beautiful; I love the old fashioned style and the views out to the ocean and Bass Rock are stunning (especially lovely to watch the sun go down and the colour fade from the sky). I had the duck and it was the best main I’ve had all year; really delicious, interesting flavours and perfectly cooked. The creamed cabbage side was to die for too. Four stars because the dessert wasn’t too special imo and the service is a bit slow (clearly not the fault of the servers, but seems like the hotel and restaurant are terminally understaffed).

Came for Sunday lunch - V slow service, food arrives late & cold, overcooked yorkies, two small pieces of rump given that’s mostly fat. Very overpriced but lovely interior though.

Bass rock bar Marine Hotel. Disappointing entrance to hotel ,white sliding doors ,chipped steps.Bizarre why spend a fortune and skimp. Bar has a dark environment sadly dated, missed opportunity. The waiting staff in white trainers doesnt really convey a 5star experience. The bar menu is quite restricted with no real vegan options. The radicchio salad was poor for £8 and I had to send the oysters back because they looked flabby and green. No real interest food wise here a crock of mediocrity.Seems weird to expect clients to pay over £200 a room and not give serious attention to the food. Try the Herringbone in town.

Had dinner here on Tues 18th January. Warm welcome in the dining room from staff and nice service throughout the meal. Our meal was delicious. I particularly enjoyed my halibut main. Side dishes are extra and most of them priced from £4 /£4.50. I felt this was a bit steep, considering most of the mains are £28/£34. Veg was cooked to perfection. Would say one portion of side dishes are adequate for two people. Sadly there were no mints/petit fours at end of the meal with our coffee which was disappointing.

The service was great and the staff were very attentive when asking if we needed extra drinks. However, either the pricing or the food portions need to be adjusted! My meal was £23 for literally a small chicken breast on top of a dollop of mash potato, with a haggis ball and a drizzle of thin gravy/sauce - no vegetables or some sort of greenery added at all. My partner had the steak and guinness pie which was bigger in comparison, but the mash he was served was probably a tablespoons worth. Both meals tasted lovely, but definitely not worth the price charged.
