Fish and chips were fantastic! Had a pie that was not great. But highly recommend the fish n chips!

We had a good time and enjoyed ourselves, the service was pleasant. Unfortunately, we were victims of food poisoning due to the 2 Haddock served... We are certain of it because we only ate these foods during the day. So the fish was definitely not fresh. This ruined our London stay... We would have preferred not to choose this restaurant. The person who ate the cod had no problems.

Laughing Halibut is a surprising place where you can feel the true atmosphere of English fish and chips. The staff sneaks through narrow aisles between worn-out tables and chairs, always finding the person ordering 😂, advising with a smile and showing patience with non-standard English. The prices are reasonable and the taste is unique! Definitely a "must-try" for anyone who wants to try this English specialty. I recommend it with a clear conscience - fish and chips here taste as they should, even better!

After reading reviews was hoping for a better fish and chips. The fish wasn’t very thick and the batter coating was missing salt so it really had not much flavor. Disappointing/sorry to say. Staff was very friendly. Prices are high for this type of restaurant.

Are you looking for a real fish and chips restaurant... Look no further, it's there. Victoria district. A real treat for the taste buds. Very fresh, varied possions and very affordable prices (70 L for 4). We caught 4 different fish, all were excellent... In short, an address to do without thinking. Remember to call before it fills up quickly given the value for money...

Wow! I’ve never been served so fast in my life. I came in, was guided to a table, took my order and literally in under 3 minutes I had my food in front of me! I ordered the two eggs and chips. A gherkin, and a Dr Pepper. My server Ibraham was amazing. Super aware and attentive. It seemed that all the customers were getting similar exemplary service too. Don’t forget this is in the centre of London and was maxed out busy so to get this level of service is an achievement! After finishing most of my food I still had quite a few chips left. Ibraham noticed me looking at the menu again and came straight over to ask if I needed anything else. I chanced it and asked if they had any cheese for my chips as I couldn’t see it on their menu. He said yes we have grated cheese and I kid not, in less than 30 seconds I had a bowl of grated cheese on my table! Well impressed!

Simply delicious fish and chips as I had imagined what having fish and chips in person in London would be like. I also enjoyed watching how my food was prepared behind the counter.

Ordered the halibut fish and chips which cost 21 pounds. Comes with a big portion of fries. Taste of the halibut was okay. Restaurant has plenty of seats and service was fast. Do note that the price excludes service charge and the service charge is subjected to your own discretion tipping.

Truly excellent ! Friendly, fast service. The chips were so good. My wife usually doesn't eat all hers... This time they weren't going to be shared with me. Both the halibut and cod were very good. So flaky and light! Big thumbs up!

The place is great with a lot of options and warm staff. The fish was fresh, however I found the fish and chips to be oily and bland. Could be because of my taste preference

Fish time here, the staff were friendly and polite throughout my visit, which is always good. I ordered haddock and chips with a side of mushy peas and bread. The haddock was very tasty and hot, chips were pretty good although I prefer them a bit crispier (but I still ate them all!). The mushy peas were a bit of a letdown and the bread an butter I ordered was a roll and margarine. Total meal including a coke was £20, so not too bad. I’d have the haddock and chips again, but probably go for a curry sauce rather than mushy peas next time.

Having been buying fish and chips from the laughing halibut for years I was shocked to find the quality of the fish and chips has gone through the floor. I ordered haddock and chips but got a thin piece of haddock in a batter that is reminiscent of a shop bought piece of battered fish. The chips are not thick chippy chips but more like skinny fries. I gave my feedback when I paid but the staff member I spoke to could not give a toss. If this is now the quality of fish and chips the laughing halibut is now selling avoid going there. Strutton Ground has some amazing street food vendors that are selling really tasty food that are a lot cheaper than the over priced fish and chips being made at the laughing halibut. A once great fishy has taken the give the least and charge the most route.

An authentic store with a great team. The fish was great and there were a few little tips for sights. Definitely worth a visit!

We had a Haddock regular size fish (fresh) for 9GBP and small size chips for 3GBP. The size was very generous and more than enough for an adult eating one meal a day. If you are really hungry or want to share with someone go for their large size at 11GBP. The fish was so good and tasty that my daughter came back and took one for herself. We liked the location, on a small street full of restaurants and small shops, close to Westminster and St James Park and Victoria Station. We also liked having the option between take away and eating inside. This is a small family business and the service was great. Too bad we were only around for two days, but we will certainly pass by again next time we visit London.

I had my first fish and chips for 10 months at The Laughing Halibut and I'm delighted that I chose there to treat myself after so long. This was my first visit and I will seek it out now whenever I'm in London. I had a large cod, which was indeed large, and fresh and white. The batter was thin, light and crispy. and the chips were thick and as excellent as the cod, no grease anywhere. The staff were incredibly friendly and took the time to chat to me and other customers. Service was also really quick. An absolute gem of a place, down to earth, honest - I can't say enough in its praise.

Fish and chips are delicious! The staff said they liked Korea, joked around, and the overall atmosphere was friendly, so it was nice to visit without any pressure. I recommend it.

Lived in the area for 3 months and ate here sporadically (when I could). The owners are friendly and accommodating, the food was always hot and tasty (even when we ordered take away), and the chips are ah-mazing!! (Hubs really liked their wings as well as their fish, BTW.). They were often busy, but handled the volume pretty well. Definitely recommend.

Maybe it's not simply that Fish & Chips don't drive me crazy in general, nothing special about the dish, good, for the price I would have hoped for a larger portion but perhaps it falls within the London range. Very very friendly and helpful staff..fast service.

If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would! Wow!!! The food here was insanely amazing. I'm writing this review as I'm finishing my dish. The Halibut & Chips is cooked to perfection and the service here is second to none! Friendly vibes--amazing service team!!!! 100/100 will ALWAYS RECOMMEND TO TRY! P.S the 1/2 burger with cheese and grilled onions is the best burger I have ever tasted!

Pretty good for a stop in fish and chips. Service was to the point and friendly. Fish and chips are what I would expect from a quick service place like this in London. It was very busy when we first came in but then it cleared out as we were eating, so I think they must have a pretty strong lunch rush. The only downside for me was that the tartar sauce came in small packets and I think I had to use like 6 of them. Wish it came in a bottle or something instead!

These are the fish and chips and English breakfast I ate on my first trip to England! There were many types of fish and chips, and we chose cod. Since it was my first experience, I don't know the standard of taste, but I enjoyed it very much :) They didn't sell beer, and I think it's very cost-effective! The Turkish manager with good service said that Korea and we are friends haha.

Its been over a decade since I last dined here. Now I'm back in the locale and dined in for lunch today. It was busy but I easily found a free table for 4. Service was swift and very friendly. Food was hot and delivered quickly. Possibly the best chips ever...! Delicious 😋

Nice restaurant with delicious fish and chips and helpful staff.

We looked at the rather positive reviews of this restaurant and came to taste it during our visit to London, looking for a real fish and chips. We got takeout and ate in the park just down the street. The fish is excellent and so are the fries. I recommend this fish and chips. The restaurateurs are nice. The only downside is not having at least one sauce included in the price of fish and chips.

Very good food. Very nice service. A place with a unique atmosphere. The owner of the restaurant welcomed us very nicely and eagerly told us about the history of this place. This is our second visit to this restaurant, we are sentimental about it. Best regards and we recommend this place.

Halibut was pretty good. Super crispy but didn't have the most flavor. I wished they had actual malt vinegar instead of the imitation stuff. That would have helped a bunch.

While doing research for our trip to London, I came across a post that said that while pubs do have good fish and chips, you really need to go to a proper "Chippie" to experience true fish and chips. So of course, we then went searching for a "proper Chippie" ... hoping to find one near our hotel since we wanted fish and chips our first night in London (why wait!?). We found lots of posts about The Laughing Halibut and it turns out that it was only a 3 minute walk from our hotel. Walking in, you could tell that they've been doing this for a long time ... and doing it well. The place was crowded, but not packed and we were able to get a table (also lots of folks ordering take-away). Our waiter was really friendly and helpful. Everything was delicious ... and not at all greasy (which my friend was afraid of). If we had been staying in London a few more nights (our nights were already booked with other dinners), we certainly would have returned for another helping! Next time in London....we'll be back here for some more delicious fish and chips!

I had Haddok and it was the best. I didn't know the rules of the store so I bought a drink and the staff forgave me. But I didn't drink any drinks and only ate fish and chips. It was so delicious that even though the portion was huge, I ate it all. Because I didn't drink anything, I was able to fill the place with food. The female clerk and chef were very happy when they saw the clean dishes I had emptied. It was my first time eating the best fish and chips, but I wanted to try it again. A good tip is to eat it with pepper, mayonnaise and ketchup.

Lovely traditional fish and chips. The halibut is AMAZING. Thick fish, perfectly fried. The fat chips were delicious too. Another dish vegetarian Jamaican patty was delicious too 💯 the waiter was very attentive and helpful too.

The fish are fresh and the crisp to the batter was just right. Space was tight but that didn't stop people from dining. For those who have a dietary restrictions and lean towards healthier options, they can grill the fish for you. It is my first time trying their meat pie. The gravy was not salty like the American pot pie. Pretty good.

Great food, service and atmoshere. We had cod & chips with mushy peas and could really recommended that! As tourists we always look for an authentic local restaurant with traditional fresh food (not a tourist trap) and this was truly excellent.

So if you eat fish & chips here and really just that, then you're on the safe side. The fish tasted good and the fries were good too. However, my friend took the squid rings and they must have been 100% no longer good. Because immediately after eating it, she felt extremely sick and had stomach pain. Now the squid rings are no longer in your stomach... so NEVER eat squid rings in this store, it's pure food poisoning!!!!
