I ordered some take out and it was amazing! The staff was super friendly and very nice. I got the standard fish & chips and it was really tasty! The breading was nice and crispy, the fish was juicy and simply perfect. The fries were great too, just a little bit of mayo wouldn't have hurt - but that's probably more of a habit of mine! For £12 there was a generous portion, which definitely justified the price. The waiting time wasn't long either, which is an additional plus point. The restaurant itself is a bit small and was quite busy, which is why I opted for takeaway. But that doesn't detract from the quality of the food. It was really a great experience and I would definitely come back! Highly recommended!

We were on the hunt for authentic fish and chips while in Westminster and chose The Laughing Halibut based on the great reviews — and we were not disappointed! The fish was piping hot, perfectly cooked, and not greasy at all. The batter was light and crispy, and the portion size was generous. The mushy peas were absolutely spectacular — some of the best we’ve had anywhere. If you’re in the area and craving classic British comfort food done right, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommend!

Perfect place to eat a quick fish & chips for lunch, they churn out dishes all the time so they are very quick to serve. It is a kind of very easy-going "trattoria", don't expect a starred restaurant. Advised!

Based on the reviews, we went to the store for our first “Fish & Chips” experience and were not disappointed. The restaurant is quaint, the staff is friendly and "normal" and the regular portion of fish & chips is very tasty and sufficient. So if you get hungry in the area around Westminster Abbey, you should definitely stop by here!

These guys are great! I brought my family of 7 (including a 5 and 3 year old) to the UK on holiday. The day was ending and everyone was tired. They accommodated our party, gave us a pitcher of water and we shared various entrees (fish and chips, Cornish pasty, and chicken and mushroom pie) as well as 5 pound meals for the little ones. It was comfortable and friendly! Bravo!

This was the epitome of a local British Cafe that has great fish and chips. I got the large Haddock and this was a great suggestion by Abraham the chef. The batter was perfect not thick and over powering the fish or the fish over powering the batter. The fish was moist and flaky and had a great taste and surely not fishy. The chips were double fried and the outside was crispy but the inside was moist and not over cooked. I will return before I leave London next week. Go stop by and tell Abraham that Tom from Texas said to come by, ask him about the ranch he is supposed to try and make for his onion rings. Lol

The cod was absolutely delicious! The staff was kind and welcoming. For a tiny little shop who sells fish, there was virtually no fish smell! Yes, the place could use an esthetic makeover, but I didn’t go there for ambience.

A restaurant with excellent fish and chips that has not yet been occupied by tourists. The fish is fresh and deliciously prepared. Large portions. The restaurant is family-run, and the staff is helpful and cheerful. We didn't need a reservation. Prices are much lower than other similar restaurants. Only the toilet is not quite.

After watching the guard being raised we wanted to eat fish & chips not too far away. This place had good reviews so we went for it and it was a good idea!! We arrived a little before noon and fortunately, the room filled up quickly! There were even reserved tables. Fast and really lovely service. LOTS of kindness. And the fish & chips were delicious!!!

We came in and we got service right away, a very nice man was good at suggesting dishes and helping here looks nice. We got a salad to share as a starter, really good, we also got some dressings. Desde fuera, este lugar parece tan ordinario, pero nunca hemos probado pescado tan bueno como este durante años y vivimos en la costa norte de Escocia, donde los peces llegan a Scrabster todos los días. Ningún lugar que hayamos comido durante años deja la piel del pescado bajo la masa ligera y sabrosa que le da al pescado su hermoso sabor. Que es la forma en que el pescado solía servirse en todas partes, pero no ahora, No es de extrañar que este lugar estaba lleno de gente comiendo en cualquiera de las mesas, así como comida para llevar. The dining service was kind and for the cost the food portion was adequate if not generous. Some of the batter rice was uncooked and liquid and impacted taste, but the batter was thin and crispy. The big concern is hygiene. The toilets were grubby and poorly appointed, the fryer surfaces looked dirty and the table wiping cloth wasn’t well kept. The 3/5 hygiene rating of adequate reflects this, and I notice the rating was not displayed. Staff need to be trained and to perform better. It’s all resolvable.

Pasamos por un almuerzo rápido un sábado después de nuestro recorrido por la casa del Parlamento británico (a pocos pasos). Nos dieron una mesa a pesar de no haber hecho ninguna reserva. El servicio era amable y rápido. Disfrutamos mucho del pescado de eglefino y patatas fritas.

From Cod to Clod: A Tale of Two Halibuts Our friends wanted to experience traditional fish and chips and to be honest, British chips are the first thing I crave whenever I return to the UK—nothing back home even comes close. I researched potential fish and chip shops prior to our trip, knowing our planned schedule and looking for shops close to our hotel. The Laughing Halibut was one which was highly recommended online. A quick Google search showed me the perfect, traditionally chippy so, feeling satisfied it would work I added it to our potential itinerary. We arrived about 45 mins before closing and were greeted by friendly "Frymasters" with cheeky London accents and smiles. It was perfect. Our fish and chips, with sides of mushy peas and curry sauce, arrived promptly to our table and we tucked in. We were riding high on salt, vinegar, and nostalgia! That is, until we needed the bathroom - ugh!! It was disgusting and I mean disgusting. Had we popped in there first we would have headed straight out of the shop. Come on, team—when your bathroom looks like it’s straight out of a horror film, it kills the appetite. Clean it up, and you’ll have a 5-star gem!

When visiting London the Laughing Halibut should be on your itinerary. The food is fresh, light and just an iconic London meal. The servers there are friendly and always willing to share the knowledge of London, when prompted. Definitely recommend!

For what it is, it’s perfect. Casual, very friendly service, satisfyingly greasy (but not too greasy). I got the haddock and chips, and the fish was nice and flaky, and it was steaming when you broke off a piece. The chips had nice crunchy edges. Curry sauce was good as well.

A very great family business with friendly service. It has been operating since the 1980s and the atmosphere is still like that today — I hope that doesn't change, that's what makes it so authentic. The fish & chips are very good, you can choose from an unlimited number of sauces. They also offer takeaway food. I think it's worth a visit, a bite of real England.

Each time I return to the UK I always get some chippie chips. Sometimes going to a chippie you don't know can be hit or miss, this is a hit! Fuimos aquí en base a las críticas y no decepcionó. Mamá vieja y pop Diner look pero la comida era impresionante. Se pidieron calamares, fletán y bacalao más guisantes machacados (¡un alimento básico en Londres! ) y todo estuvo bien. Hijo pidió la hamburguesa del desayuno y le encantó. La mujer que trabajaba allí era increíble. Nos pusimos a hablar y ella era una novia. Muy recomendable para una auténtica experiencia familiar.

Britain's first fish and chips. I'm glad I was able to eat here. I happened to be looking for a restaurant when I was hungry and found this place, so I went in. Halibut has a light taste and is not oily so even people who don't like fried foods can enjoy it. The potatoes are also thick and fluffy. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is very nice.

Food was overwhelmingly on the bland side but you could opt for tartar, mayo, vinegar, salt & pepper, and ketchup sauces, which helped. Atmosphere: is compact. We were seated at a table for four and felt cramped during our meal. Service: Friendly but prompt service.

Well a fish and chips by name. No sauce, no beer, no taste. The fish itself is good but to greasy. The fries are so industrial that you cannot figure out if it was real potatoes at the start of the process. Friendly service. You can drink only water or Sodas. The restaurant is very unassuming and is off the beaten path amongst other local spots. That being said the Halibut Fish and Chips is the best I have ever had and created a new bar to measure fish and chips against. Next time I'm back in town we will be back!
