Sixtyone restaurant in Marylebone is an impressive upmarket establishment with superb service, offering nice wines and beautiful, tasty dishes. On my way to a swanky members club in Marylebone for a private party, I stopped at a fitting restaurant, the Sixtyone, located at the fancy Montcalm Hotel. I was very lucky to get a table as walk-in. Booking is definitely a good idea if you want to go there. The dining room is small, flashy and impressive. An arty ceiling stands out and some paintings and photos on the walls made me smile, like for example the big cow that was looking right into my eyes. The wine list offered a great selection of wines by the glass. I ordered a 2014 Riesling from Thomas Mourée, I think. When I asked the lovely waitress serving me, the wine was described to me as drier than an Alvarinho that I also considered briefly. It was a beautiful and tasty wine I would order again anytime. The bread selection was a varied mix. While the marmite bread was not for me, the other sliced bread and the mini baguettes were really good. I am not sure how practical it is to serve butter on a stone, but it looked great and was original. My starter was Cheltenham beetroot with Cashel blue cheese and walnuts. I was a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of beetroot on the plate. There were four massive chunks and thinly sliced pickled beetroot with some salad and walnut crumble. The beetroot and the blue cheese were both pretty strong flavours that were a good combination. The delicious walnut crumble tasted a little bit sweet and added a lovely texture to the dish. As main, I had ordered the Lake District beef fillet. As you can probably tell from the descriptions, the Sixtyone restaurant values great British and other local produce. The meat was full of beef flavour, although it was probably a tiny bit cooked too long. Yet, it was mostly soft and juicy. I did not really enjoy the onion garnish and sauce too much, but that is just a personal preference. It looked good on the plate and tasted alright. The grass green crumble reminded me of meadows in the country side. I thought this was an inspired addition. Overall, this was a very good plate of food. Because I had no reservation, I was in danger of running a bit late before the next reservation for my table would come up. However, the friendly waiter assured me that he was well aware of that and encouraged me to order a dessert. So I did and asked for the apple millefeuille. It came with beautiful layers, strong apple at the bottom, refreshing lime in between and some sugar on top. The puff pastry was crispy and the ice cream with crumble on the side acted as a perfect palate cleanser to help you enjoy each bite of the sweet treat even more. An excellent, refreshing dessert. Sixtyone is a brilliant restaurant. The food was artfully presented and tasted delicious. The staff were lovely, efficient and professional - always on top of things. Definitely a restaurant I would visit again.

Aaaron, chapeau! Una celebración de sabores. Volveremos la próxima vez.

A sophisticated dining experience of a high quality London standard. The flavour combinations and presentation of all the dishes was excellent. Highlight was the cod which was extremely tender, with a beautiful turmeric sauce and delicate muscles. We shared 4 desserts because we both have a major sweet tooth. All were excellent but my favourite was the tiramisu dome. Closely followed by the salted caramel and chocolate dessert. We got the dessert cocktail too, which was perfectly balanced. Citrus, mint, hibiscus flower... Mmm! I almost got a second! Wine was very good, service was prompt and friendly. Restaurant was very modern and comfortable. Price came to £146 for two, with two carafes of wine, starters, one main shared, 4 desserts and a cocktail each. On the high side, but it's fine dining and was totally worth it!

Selected the restaurant because of their social media presence to be my birthday treat. Chose the Tasting menu (6 course £55 pp) which looked amazing. The restaurant was able to create a vegetarian menu for my friend as well which was greatly appreciated. We had champagne which apparently was included in the menu as it didn't show on the bill. Great atmosphere and very attentive staff. Each course was very well presented and tasted incredible. Some interesting mix of textures and flavours were presented such as the truffle ice-cream with olive oil cake and olive oil poured over it. It was an experience I would definitely recommend to everyone. Will for sure go back to treat my friends.

Luxurious and relaxing in the Champagne bar, friendly and attentive staff with beautifully cold Champagne served elegantly.Intimacy and knowledge inside the restaurant was above expectation. The decor stunning with copper everywhere, and the food from start to finish a success. Marmite bread and sourdough with homemade under churned butter served innovatively. Both starters were delicious and interesting, the main courses though we're sublime. Venison cooked to perfection, and sea bass complimented by flavours, textures and scents to achieve a culinary delight. Dessert was squeezed in as we had to rush off, but this was yummy and a much needed treat for a sweet tooth like me. The wines were all beautiful, especially the Searcys house red.Thank you to Michael and his team! We'll be back for the tasting menu as soon as we can

We had a buy a gift voucher and finally got around to using it. The ambiance of the restaurant is not too stuffy or formal but still feels like you are out for a special meal. The service is outstanding, the head waiter? is superb. The home baked bread is delicious - including the marmite bread! We both ordered the hock to start which was excellent. We were given the flexibility to order from the a la carte menu, so my wife had the sea bass and I had the pork, both were flavoursome and well cooked, we ordered some side dishes to accompany the main. A pre dessert was followed by the desserts we choose Apple millefeuille and I had the parsnip (yes parsnip) rice pudding which was creamy and decadent! The only slightly real negative comment would be that the cocktails could be a little more exciting, as fairly standard for £15 a pop, but the wine was excellent. Not cheap but a great choice for a special meal out if you are in London.

We were taken there by friends as a Christmas present. I can honestly say it was amongst the best meals I have had. It started with their bread basket with plain and smoked butter. Then I had the hock followed by Pollock. We then had a pre desert which was granola with lemon cheese cake and lemon curd. Small but delicious. The pudding was the rice pudding. It all sounds very plain however there is no way I have the skills to do justice to the meal. It was simply Devine. Having read some of the other comments with regards to the pork. Both my friends had the pork which was basted in teriyaki sauce(which is salty) one really enjoyed it the other commented about the salt so my advice is if you don't like salt choose one of the other dishes. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They made us feel special which is a real art. I can't recommend this highly enough.

I really wanted to love everything here, but I didn't . The Staff are fabulous, very friendly and so helpful and thoughtful. We were offered the set Menu but asked to see the A La Carte which to be honest does not have much more of a choice. We started with the bread basket, which was so lovely . If the Marmite bread had been on the Menu I would have ordered that !! Cauliflower Soup , lovely. Pork, hmmmm . It was basically a Very thick Bacon rasher/chop and too salty. Chocolate Fondant was lovely. (That, was ordered from the A La Carte ) Would I go again ? Yes . My only moan other than the salty main was having a side suggested to go with it .I hate having to buy a side dish because the meal would be enhanced by it !! A meal should be complete with no need for side dishes unless you are extra hungry. As it was I could not finish all of the side dish . We had a Cocktail each and a glass of Prosecco the bill came to £140 for two . Loved the wonky glasses easy to hold and different.

SixtyOne Restaurant.......................There are 5570 Restaurants in London so one does have a lot of choice. I have eaten at quite a few, always when in London choose “exceedingly good” restaurants. I have tried Jason Atherton, Ramsey’s, Corrigan’s Marco’s to name just a few.Now………………………………. I can actually say, hand on heart, that I have found A true hidden gemSixtyOne Restaurant, 61 Upper Berkeley Street, London, W1H 7PP. Very close to Marble Arch My word………………….. This restaurant is not just exceedingly good it is sensational! From greeting to leaving it was perfection – not stuffy or cold, everyone was warm and genuinely friendly.Modern trendy with a 70’s vibe but Warm! From the start I knew it was going to be delicious just by the ambience and looking around at other plates! But it was simply sensational. When I tasted the food I was so surprised power packed flavours and great presentation. Service begins with a Bread Box accompanied by homemade butter. Not a normal “Bread Box”I do make my own butter and this was beautiful, creamy salty perfection. My new love is Marmite Bread, oh my! so dangerous – As I was salivating so much they asked if I would like more bread – NOOOOO! Not because I did not like it, simply because I ADORED IT! I would have eaten them out of Marmite Bread if I could, but I knew that I wanted to “Save myself”. To start I ordered Heritage beetroot | Cashel Blue | walnut -simply beautiful. For Main - Pork loin Apple and Pineapple. Devine cooked to perfection with a salty crust. For Pudding we were given an extra dish, a cheesecake in a shot glass served with the most adorable pistachios shortbread – meltingly delicious.Followed by - Apple millefeuille| lavender | lime – I have never tasted anything so deviously delicious and I never ever eat puddings. It must be 20 years since I ordered a pudding, I normally go for the cheese. On this occasion I decided to try it . OH MY- The whole experience was simply Perfection. I shall return. I would really want to eat everything! So the tasting menu shall be perfect - Roll on September when I am back in London.Sixtyone is my new favourite restaurant – Thank You to all who made our visit so very special.

Went for lunch using the Buy a Gift voucher and on arrival waited around 7 minutes at the front desk (hotel side) but despite one person seeing us waiting didn't say anything. We ended up walking in and up to someone to be seated, despite there only being about 4 other tables in use. We did get the feeling we were treated slightly different to others. Heightened by the very different menu we were given that was not available or referred to on the website, which may have changed our choice of restaurant. The menu had 3 choices for main and starter which whilst we knew the style of food we'd be getting, was disappointing. I had the pork which was quite fatty. Maybe expectations were higher but we left disappointed. The best part of the food was the bread choice and the appetiser before the dessert. That was lovely. Service was very good from the young waitress who served most of our food. Helpful, unobtrusive and kept out drinks topped up. The others seemed to be on the grumpy side of things. We were given Buyagift vouchers for this restaurant and weren't sure whether we'd get 100% service. However we were blown away by everything about the experience. The staff are absolutely amazing - courteous, helpful and friendly. The food was first-class - a limited menu, but extremely varied, and the quality was second to none. We never felt rushed and the evening stretched out for much longer than we'd expected! The atmosphere is very relaxing, lighting was perfect for dinner and all in all, it was a really wonderful evening. Thanks again to all the staff for making this birthday celebration very special.

We booked the restaurant with a Buy A Gift card, this was bought for me as I enjoy fine dining. However, its clear that the restaurant treats the Buy a Gift customers very differently from normal guests. Firstly you have to eat early, so all these guests are here together, away from the normal guests, the menu is different to the normal menu, and you have a choice of just 3 dishes per course, (they give you this cheaper menu, with no option to upgrade). The food is ok, but ours was cold. When you leave the restaurant the normal menu is then displayed for customers dining at at later time.... and looks so much better. Its pretty much like having a gift to drive a Ferrari, but you are not allowed to drive, and you must be in the boot!!! Would never go back, would rather of paid more for a decent experience.

travelled into "the smoke" to celebrate a 60th birthday. Using the buy-a-gift scheme we had lunch at Sixtryone and a view form the Shard. The restaurant was nicely decorated, light and welcoming the staff attentive and helpful. As non drinkers they happily exchanged the complimentary champagne for nice waters. A set menu - but still with choices and without boring you with details all the food was very good and the palate cleanser and desserts truly excellent. A small additional charge was levied (£4/person) for seasonal vegetables which seemed a little off as one could barely have the main (braised shoulder of beef) with no accompanimentsA minor point it, was a truly memorable meal and the staff were first rate

The lunch deals at some of London's top restaurants, often advertised through websites such as Bookatable, give you access to fine dining in beautiful spaces at astonishingly good value. That is definitely true of Sixtyone Restaurant, where we had three courses for £24 with a free glass of prosecco thrown in. There were three choices for each course including vegetarian options for starter and main, and I tried the beetroot with blue cheese and walnut starter - great flavour combination exquisitely presented - and the braised beef shoulder which was tender and rich (in a good way), finishing up with a very good chocolate fondant with honeycomb. Even with a side of brussel tops and a coffee, the whole bill with service came to just over £30 per person which for such good food and (maybe ever so slightly obsequious) service is a real bargain. Picking up on some of the criticisms in other reviews, one dish among the five different starters and mains our party tried could be said to have been slightly over-seasoned...but the rest definitely weren't.

If you ever played Cluedo or used to enjoy those murder mystery weekends that were all the rage back in the eighties, this restaurant is for you.Picture the scene. An ostensibly good restaurant in a swish area of the capital. The party at the table comprises a man who appears on the telly a lot, his charming companion, and two northern business types.Together they have to solve the riddle; who murdered the first course on its way to their table? The method was dastardly enough - an overdose of salt. But by whose hand? The chef himself? No, surely he would have tasted it first. The smiling lady who took the coats? Unlikely, she wouldn't have the opportunity. The young fellow with the bushy beard who transported the plates to our table and got confused over the wines due to his obvious belief that Chardonnay is the ideal accompaniment to every known dish? It was only when I read a fellow reviewer's comments that it dawned on me a serial seasoner is on the loose. He must be caught before more food falls victim. My arancini with mushrooms never stood a chance, poor thing. It was a tragic end to an otherwise well-crafted plate. Two of our party made vaguely positive remarks about the meal, but their expressions gave them away. I suspect they were being polite since they were our guests. Our famous friend went so far as to praise a dish which tested negative for sodium chloride. But so it should have. It was the dessert.Other notable facts about the restaurant;1. It has a collection of the best chateaux from the great 1961 vintage (hence the name 61 - geddit?)2. Nothing really.

we walked in and were greeted with warmth and friendliness way above what we were expecting. Attention to detail was second to none, I am a vegetarian and the chef had very kindly served a separate menu for myself which was delicious, we had the sampler 6 course menu and I cannot fault one single course. I will most certainly return and will most certainly recommend to my friends. Thank you to all the staff who were just delightful.

Had a lovely meal here, the food was fantastic. However, we were left waiting nearly 25 minutes between the main course and 'pre desert'. This was a shame as there was no reason for this apart from the fact that they had forgotten our table. I completely understand that mistakes happen, however we received no proper apology for this. The dishes were also explained on their arrival by the waiter to other tables around us, however we did not receive this service. I have been to restaurants of this standard before and received fantastically attentive service. Here, it wasn't the case.

Lunch visit with a voucher so didnt know what to expect. The restaurant itself is quite intimate modern and unassuming but the food was a revelation. The beef cheek starter was real melt in the mouth food and full of subtle flavour. The hake with pickled fennel was one of the best fish dishes I've tasted. The apple millefeuille was good but not exceptional but the palate cleansing yoghurt ice cream and the bread at the beginning were brilliant. I must also give a mention to the house champagne which had a notable depth of flavour. All in all Michelin standard food and the star can surely not be far away

Although this restaurant was very affordable and the decor stunning the food was ordinary and the service was poor. Our main course arrived before the plates were removed from our previous course. We sent main course away and asked that our table be prepared and was told Chef was ready to serve. That maybe be all well and good but the waitress has to do her job and ensure the table is ready for the course to be served. After the mad rush to serve the main course we then were made to wait 35 minutes for dessert.

My girlfriend and I dined at Sixtyone on the 2nd January 2016 before the Lion King theatre. I know Chef Arnaud well as an old work colleague, however, Sixtyone staff and team were excellent and you really couldn&#039;t ask for better quality food and service, at a very reasonable price. This is Michelin star level without the official star, yet. <br />we had the 6 course tasting menu which consisted of dishes I would never normally choose, and combinations I had never heard of - yet all worked perfectly together and we both left not only extremely satisfied but also completely full up. My partner had never tasted food like that before and she said she felt emotional eating some of the dishes as they were that mouth watering - you can&#039;t get a better review than that.

The dinning party was very much looking forward to our meal at the restaurant, given the positive reviews. While the party was warmly greeted &amp;, initially, the service was attentive, the level of service seemed to change once we received our mains. No one checked to see if we were enjoying the meal &amp; did not check to see if we required the water or drinks replenished (after some time, I asked for water), plates were not cleared in a timely fashion &amp; there were gaps in service. While I certainly appreciate not being rushed during a meal, it felt more that the table was forgotten, while staff attended to other tables. While the meal itself was lovely &amp; of high quality, the restaurant would benefit from focussing on providing more consistent service.

Had a bit of trouble finding the place, as its in a hotel. Apart from that no complaints. Was taking two friends to the ballet for Christmas and I wanted to treat them. SixtyOne is part of the Skylon group and I've never had any problems with food or service anytime I've eaten there. We picked a good time to go, as it was in the late afternoon and so was quiet, the Christmas lights were on which made it more special (we all took pictures). The food was of just the right amount, I loved the partridge terrine. We had no time for dessert alas, but eating at SixtyOne made the evening much more conducive to a magical evening . The staff were attentive, friendly, professional. I hope they got a Christmas bonus Merry Christmas to them and also Open Table

After hearing great reviews of Sixtyone from colleagues I decided to try it out for a celebratory meal with my girlfriend. Using a buyagift voucher we were limited (very limited) to a set menu, as expected so we were not too concerned. However, upon ordering our starters we began to realise a common theme, salt to be price, nearly everything was over-salted. I ordered the Beef cheek, this was relatively fine, nothing too concerning, however my girlfriend's chicken soup was overpowering and the chicken was nowhere to be seen nor tasted. Main course I had the butter poached cumbrian turkey with potato, the cumbrian turkey had a thick vein in it, whilst the potatoes were hard as rocks, both me and my girlfriend agreed this was unacceptable. My girlfriend chose the macaroni, too much mushroom, too much salt, almost inedible. The predessert consisted of frozen yogurt, berries and what I can only describe as burnt seed wafers, which we both agreed was disastrous. Finally, I chose the a layered apple desert (Apple millefeuil) which was disappointing, whilst my girlfriend ordered the chocolate fondant which too was utterly average. That's just the meal, other parts of the experience were equally terrible. For example, we realised (after drinking from it) that the water glass we were given was.... Well see the picture, not something you would expect from a restaurant of this calibre. We were also charged for a bread basket we did not order, and were made to pay a £15 supplement due to the festive menu being of "higher quality" - If this is higher quality, then I'd like to see the normal menu. Following the meal, we made our dissatisfaction known to the waiter who reassured us that we would be contacted by the general manager who would make it right, however after giving them my contact information we haven't heard a peep. Following the meal, I personally felt physically sick. An absolutely disastrous evening.
