So many other coffee shops in Dorchester better than this experience. Empty and dreadful toasted tea cakes. More like compressed sawdust with a couple of squashed flies for flavour. Terrible coffee. Not a clue

My partner, son and I went to the Last Post for Lunch. We were drawn in by a board outside, advertising a warming winter lunch. Unfortunately nothing could have been further from the truth. The door was open the whole time making it cold and drafty. The air conditioning was also on?! The waiting staff we're on another planet with uncleared tables all over the place. The music was terrible and way out of date. My tea was in a tiny cup with a dirty rim. The coffee looked nice though! My microwaved jacket potato arrived, with cheap, shop bought coleslaw, and hardly any cheese, it was edible but a long way from a good meal! My salad was way past its best with brown leaves and swimming in dressing. My sons panini was edible, but again the salad was poor. My partners baguette wasn't bought to our table until we had all finished our lunch. They'd forgotten it. The cheesy chips were nice at least! It's not hard to make a decent jacket potato or sandwich! Thank you for giving us the baguette for free. However we won't be returning! I hate leaving negative reviews, you need to step things up though. It's unfair to serve poor quality meals, that have to be paid for by your customers hard earned money.

Called in for a bite to eat whilst out with family. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, even our dog was given a bowl of water. Food was good and well priced. Cappuccino was one of the nicest we have had and certainly better than the ones we regularly have from the various branded coffee chains. Kids loved the milkshake which was great value for money with many varieties on offer. Would recommend to others Dave

First visit, won’t go back. Latte tasted like they had used evaporated milk. Tea cakes were huge but mostly a thin tasteless thing with hardly any dried fruit. Small pat of hard butter. Greasy sausage roll, tepid. But the staff smiled!

This café, located just off the high street does simple things brilliantly well. The staff were engaging and very helpful. We stopped for a simple snack and left satisfied

Popped in here for a drink and snack while shopping, can't say I will be returning. Ordered sweet potato fries, cheesy chips, hot chocolate and a Pepsi. Pepsi was fine but hot choc was watery and undrinkable but to be fair was replaced quickly with a better one. Chips arrived half cold, soggy, burnt and clearly had been microwaved not airfried as waitress stated. Again to be fair refund quickly given as sweet potato fries were inedible, my sister tried to eat the cheesy chips but gave up and offered constructive criticism to the waitress who took it very well. Another waitress who had clearly been for a 'fresh break' brought my refund, if you are working with food it may be a good idea to have a mint after and not smell of smoke. One last thing if a customer is unhappy with their food it's not good customer service for a man who I suspect was the manager to shoot the customer a dirty look.

Had a light lunch here . Service was excellent and food was lovely . We had soup and jacket potato . Both were served hot and were thoroughly enjoyed . Whilst there we witnessed a couple unhappy with their meal . This complaint was dealt with in a professional manner - although the complaint appeared unjustified .

We ordered 2 drinks and 2 pasties. Drinks took so long to arrive I had to go in and chase. Chocolate milkshake arrived and barely tasted of chocolate. Then has to go in and ask where pasties were they took so long. When they arrived, mine was still cold. Very simple order and thanks ok so long and quality not great.

Called in mid morning and had the full English breakfast which was cooked just right with good value ingredients. Staff were all very helpful. They do a reasonable selection of cakes and light lunches too.

Sat outside on a sunny day and waited 15 minutes before waitress took order for coffee and tea cake. Coffee delivered 15 minutes later by a waitress followed by a second waitress who wanted paying. I explained I had not received Ttea cake and she said "just coming" Ten minutes later after I had finished my coffee tea cake arrived minus a knife to spread butter. I was told poor service due to lack of staff so why can't one person serve and collect payment, or better still let the lazy one collecting payment also deliver food! That is how staff should be deployed. Pleasant place totally wasted by inexperienced team. I spent about 50 minutes here just for basic coffee and tea cake. I dread to think how much time needed to have a meal.

Nice position in Main Street, it looked promising. Staff friendly. Sat outside and had to pay for meal when we ordered, fair enough. Coffee was nice. Waited a long time for a chicken wrap and sausage and chips. Staff explained that they had run out of chips so sorry for the delay. When the food arrived the chicken wrap was cold and the chicken overcooked and rubbery and you could have used the wrap to sole a shoe it was so tough! Chips were ok but the sausages were horrible, tasted like sawdust! Lucky for them they already had our money as we would have refused to pay the full amount after the meal. Maybe nice for a drink but would certainly not recommend either of these two dishes (in my opinion, two very easy meals to cook)! very disappointing. Will go to the bakery opposite next time!,

Lovely corner building, husband and I were out and about in Dorchester looking for somewhere to have lunch. From the outside this looks like a coffee shop - bar, however go inside and it's a lovely light welcoming restaurant - bar. The staff are very friendly and the food is good. We will definitely be getting back to visit again.

Love this place, it's always open when I need lunch and the bread is only slightly chewy. The only real downside is that Subway as a brand got rid of the cheesy bites and the sweet chili sauce, which should be a crime. Also bring back flatbread it was the best bread!!

New owners and what a great meal we had. Currently living in the Midlands and we have a superb range of great curry houses. Not often I come across a menu where I want to try such a range of dishes, it took us ages to pick our choices. They do all of the usuals from tikka Madala to Rogan Josh. In addition there are really interesting Indian dishes including lobster, squid and beef rump. The three of us chose 2 starters and 3 mains between us. The trio of chicken was delicious, even though one of them was bright green! The lamb strips were fabulous, like a minted red current jelly lamb with an Indian twist. If you like a rich slightly sweet curry the lamb and apricot could be for you. My sis had the lamb shank which just fell off the bone. Ann loved her New Delhi chicken which was creamy and full of flavour. The Naan was some of the best I’ve had, light and crisp and the mushroom rice was another triumph. We will definitely eat here again, I’m a real foodie and this was such a lovely surprise, great food, £21 a head with drinks, bargain!

I Had a family evening with cocktails to start, unfortunately they had not a clue how to serve or make these,by a friendly young girl, the food was the worst i have had for a long time, and although i told the elderly lady she seemed to listen but shrug it off with no effect, totally overpriced for what we had ,very small meals, missing the main ingredient FOOD.I hope they can improve and get a barman in to make the cocktails, they need to be shaken, not just pored!!

my wife and i are both high standard dart players and while on holiday in the area was looking for a nice pub with dartboard to spend a few hours drinking and playing. The pub was empty apart from one local and the barlady sat on a barstool who reluctandly got off her ass and showed us to a grotty fit for bin board ! the right hand side of the bar was a perfectly good matchboard but she did not want to move a table for us to play. Left and went around the corner to the ropemakers pub where even though they where busy they asked a local to move really nice guy who we ended up buying each other drinks. Cracking pub where we spent a good amount of money and returned the following day. As for the hope and anchor it will probably be shut down or condemmed when we pass by again !
