Despite being advertised as vegetarian friendly, there was no option for Veggie Sunday roast or even flexibility to accommodate this. We were offered Tapas instead.. we took the option even though we had both been looking forward to a Sunday Roast. Unfortunately we had the "cheeseboard selection" which was 4 very thin slices of cheese.. good cheese but ridiculous at £20 .. we had a couple of other tapas.. halloumi dish and cauliflower cheese.. 1 lime & soda & 1 lemonade.. totalling a whopping £65. The music was so loud we couldn't hear each other to talk .. when asked if we could turn it down it barely registered any difference. We love to support local but on this occasion we found the larder house to be pretentious & over priced sadly. Won't be returning.

Best roast in town with added excellent service. We are a family of 4 the boys have big appetites the ladies not so much - 4 clean plates.

Went to the Larder House last night. Was blown away by the quality of the food, the cooking techniques and the entire concept of the menu - European inspired dishes with flame grilled fresh fish and meat, served in a “tapas” style - genius! Every ingredient had been sourced to perfection, with everyone from the cooking to the waiting staff passionate about each dish. The result was that the ingredients themselves were the stars of the dishes! The servers could not be faulted and the kitchen staff displayed an obvious passion for their dishes. It is not the cheapest restaurant to visit, but certainly one that will blow you away and leave you wanting more. Definitely work a trip for a special occasion! I would not be surprised if they are on their way to being awarded a Michelin star sometime very soon. Very good indeed!!!

Just wanted a nice meal in Southbourne didn’t realise the Larder House is now it an over priced Tapas! The chalk board was too busy to understand and the waitress lacked knowledge! I was so looking forward to my cheese board, we had two at £20 a head, no explanation of the very dry looking cheese, I just looked at it and sent it back and not once after sending most of my food back did anyone ask if ‘everything was ok’ I was so looking forward to this very rare night out and it was a complete let down!

Excellent food. One of the best I've ever visited. Unusual twists on dishes from around the world using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. An inspiring menu that changes daily. Second visit and I will be a regular. Superb with knowledgeable service.

Lunch, dinner, or just for drinks. Any time of the week, I’m guaranteed a wonderful experience. Friendly team and comfortable surroundings.

My son and I dined here recently one lunchtime. We were there all of 45 mins. We had the mussels, few drinks and a desert. £106! The mussels were the smallest I had ever seen, like a dead fly had crawled in the shell. You could hardly fork them out they were that small. I did reach out to the restaurant by email as I do not like leaving bad reviews but they did not respond. The staff however, were lovely.

If I could I would give 10 stars, what a wonderful lunch we had, starting with the amazing Poppy, who welcomed us in, took time to explain the menu and suggested both food and wine, we had little tasters of the wine and I had an orange wine called Janet which is never had before and was lovely. The food was also hugely impressive, all locally sourced with a zero waste approach. We asked about the cider ketchup and the chef was kind enough to explain how it's made. I think this is one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten in. Thank you.

We have just had lunch here, and it was the best place we've eaten for a long time. All the food was delicious; the customer service was excellent (thank you Poppy!); and the relaxed atmosphere was just the vibe we were looking for. It's not the cheapest place to eat, but all the food is locally sourced and there's zero waste (as any leftovers are recycled into compost - not that we had ANY leftovers!), so we have no complaints at all about this place. We absolutely loved it!

We booked a table online for the two of us. Arrived on time only to be told by the waitress that we did,nt have a reservation. She grudgingly agreed to give us a table and promptly allocated the table right at the entrance near the door. ( this was despite it being six thirty in the evening and loads of the tables further back being empty). The overall feeling of the place was shabby and rather unkempt. There were also lots of rowdy people drinking outside and at the bar and the music was so loud I could,nt hear what my husband was saying. We left and I was glad to get outside as it was just a little bit of a crazy atmosphere inside. It’s a true saying that you never get a second chance to make a first impression. Needless to say we won,t be going back.

Went for Sunday roast. Mostly inedible. Vegetables so badly burnt we couldn’t identify them. Roast potatoes also massively overcooked. Place was empty too

I provided the music for a private party at the Larderhouse a week or so ago. Poppy was super helpful and efficient (thanks!) and Stephen behind the bar was awesome as well. Brilliant place! The guests all had a great time as did I! Cheers and see you soon

Just 5 stars in every possible way, from the service to the drinks to the variety of food. We asked the server for her recommendations on everything, and we were not disappointed! We popped upstairs to the Library for a drink after and were blown away by the bartender's knowledge and the whisky selection. I can't recommend the Larderhouse more highly, and we will be booking in again very soon!

Absolutely unbelievable. The care and attention given to each dish is clear to see, with real attention given to quality ingredients. The wood fire is an amazing feature and flows throughout the menu. Serious food delivered by wonderful staff. West Country rib eye was beautifully smoky and perfectly seasoned. Mussels in cider cream sauce were nothing short of amazing and the huge selection of vegetable dishes featured innovative twists to classic plates. Locals and visitors alike should put this at the top of their list and book now. 11/10.

Not good at all,we did complain and they knocked the drinks of the bill

I was appalled at the prices for very stingy portions; a dozen olives was a fiver and four marble-sized chicken balls, served on a drip of sauce was eight quid!!! No garnish or anything!!! To top it off, they wouldn’t accept my cash as they had no change so it was either pay with a twenty and get no change or use contactless. Won’t be returning.

Been invited to a tasting night, Paying £50. Was sceptical on fronting the money. Turns out it was more than worth it. Brilliant service. Food was unreal. One of the best and enjoyable dining experiences I’ve had. Top job guys. Thank you very much. Will definitely return. 👍

Last minute Sunday lunch. Staff and atmosphere were very nice. Unfortunately the beef served was almost inedible. The chicken however was very moist and tasty. At £25 for one course obviously disappointing.

Fifty percent overpriced tapas and cocktail bar, food is good as is service but nothing to justify the prices. Noisy ex pub. There is much better for the money

Best foodie spot in Bournemouth! after recently moving from London, I’ve missed the restaurants but we are so happy to have this little gem of a restaurant. Every single dish was so good. I’m always happy if I eat out and know I couldn’t have made it better at home. I’ve been for their roasts over the years but we’ll definitely be back for dinner 😊

Southbourne is a conceited place.

Its my second visit to the Larder House and it met expectations in everyway. Zac was our greeter and server and he was outstanding. Thank you to all who work there.

I went here for a friends 21st party. They had cornered off the whole back part for us it was spectacular! The food was sublime and the service was phenomenal...... I asked for. Crumble which came with cream but I really wanted custard so without hesitation when asked they made up some amazing vanilla custard from scratch for my dessert. They sang they danced. The staff the chefs made it something to be remembered will definitely be returning soon!! Had so much I forgot to take pictures 😂😂😂

Syd’s Slaps, is AMAZING! Just a few steps from the larder house. The sandwiches are simply incredible, and the fact that they sell Perrier champagne by the glass. Phenomenal! The service is great I love everything about it.

Had a lovely meal out with my partner for a date night. Didn’t catch the waiters name but he was amazing and kept referring to me by my first name which was a nice touch. Food was amazing - it all comes from local farms so is day dependent and had such a lovely time, thanks to you guys!

Spent a fabulous catch up evening with a girlfriend last night. The roast beef was sublime, margaritas were sensational and it was the most relaxed bit of being spoiled possible!

A bonus to fund both tasty original sharing plates with sensible priced quality drinks for a boys night out. Keep up the great work!

Had dinner here a few nights ago and all the food was very good. We had a selection of 6 dishes and we enjoyed them all. The peasant was really good, the pork belly tasty and hispi cabbage amazing. The service was good, friendly and very informative. The place is very nice, food decor and a real cosy feel. Had a great experience but it is an expensive meal.

I’ve eaten at Larder House many times before and the food has always been phenomenal and worth every penny. However I recently went for my birthday to find out they are now tapas only. Which isn’t a problem but the menu wasn’t very clear and neither was the wine menu. The girl working didn’t have much idea to any of the menu when we asked her questions on the food. When our food came out we were super disappointed. Nothing tasted out standing. Was all very simple and pretty tasteless to be honest. All of us find this & we’re all extremely disappointed. Me more so as it was for my birthday and I had said how amazing the food was but it was nothing of the sort. When we said we weren’t happy with the taste of some of the bits we had ordered. (We left half of what we had ordered). The chef came out to tell we were wrong and implied we had bad taste buds. There was never once a sorry that you are upset with how the food was it was very much we are right and you’re wrong and the comment about having not experienced good food was the final straw. I will not be coming back here again after that experience. Waste of money. Plenty of other better quality restaurants in Southbourne and with a lot less attitude.

Popped in here for a last minute lunch with my husband. Such a nice experience, great service, delicious food and an interesting menu of small plates. Just perfect for a cosy lunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Thanks Larderhouse team!

We visited for Sunday lunch. This was after visiting for a local meeting Eco Sobo & loving the plant based nibbles we were kindly provided. The lentil & mushroom wellington was absolutely delicious - could not fault this. Fabulous. However the whole meal was swamped in gravy so potatoes & some of the delicious vegetables were soft & mushy. Would advise always serving the gravy on the side so it doesn't spoil a well thought out well cooked meal. The decaf coffee to follow was sadly not delicious - absolutely awful! Couldn't drink it. When I asked for sugar I was given fine white sugar instead of a choice of table sugars including natural sugar. I was surprised there wasn't any Pinot Noir on offer. The wine I was offered instead was quite heavy in comparison to a Pinot, and the first bottle was definitely off (so they opened a new one which was better.) It still wasn't a good wine tho. I've been advised by a friend to try the Friday night small plates experience round the bar.

We had a lovely evening with delicious food! Great service and very professional. The food is quite pricey for what it is but all of the food was lovely!

Wow - what a fantastic meal we had - the roast was amazing, the beef was cooked to perfection, great roasts , homemade Yorkshire’s, lots of beautiful veg, carrot, Swede, parsnips, kale & lashing of gravy Didn’t need a starter & couldn’t manage a pud ! We sat in the conservatory as we brought our dog Lovely cosy atmosphere Great service too Highly recommend

Premium price for a sub par experience. The food (for the most part) was very delicious but it was very expensive for what it was. The menu is chaotic and wasn't clear what the differences are in terms of the size of each dish. For one dish we ordered a whole fish and when we opened it, the middle was very cold and raw so I assume it had been frozen. Similarly when I ate a prawn it also wasn't cooked as well, I'm guessing could be frozen too. The Staff are very friendly, no complaints there, but they did lack experience. Sometimes it was hard to hear them and didn't handle returning the raw food too well. The venue itself was also cold and we were seated next to a door which kept opening every time a member of staff came in instantly shocking us with cold air. Even the tables aren't suitable for a relaxed eating experience as they are garden tables that are too tall (I'm 6'1) and bumpy. I've been to other taspas restaurants which were more organised and structured. I hope they can learn from the recent bad reviews and address the issues.

Perfect Sunday roast, we had the vegetarian Wellington which they made vegan for us, nothing too much trouble, hope highly recommended 👍👍👍

Our meal had so many ingredients piled on top of each other that it was impossible to enjoy. I would have liked to ask for a second plate to spread the meal out. The vegetables were over cooked, charred to be inedible. Properly presented this would have been a much better experience.

Over priced, poor tapas. Probably some Of the worst Padron peppers I’ve tasted. Absolutely Ridiculous what this place is charging. Went home hungry and £100 lighter.

The Larder House is ok....you get 2 or 3 thinly slices of beef.....some pubs give u a thicker slice and it's cheaper.......u cannot get extra Yorkshire puddings even if u want to pay for it.....u only get one!!!!! Roast potatoes and roasted vegetables were good. We got chocolate baked pudding......not sure what to make of that.....we were not a fan - luckily we only got 1 to share with 5 of us!

The food is average.. very expensive, tiny portions, quality and taste underwhelming. Was very disappointed overall. The place itself is grubby and needs a good clean and revamp. First time visiting and will be my last! Overpriced. For five very small tapas dishes and one drink each bill was nearly £100.00 for two people for lunch. Can get far better food in far better atmosphere/setting at far cheaper price.. would not recommend this place.

We ordered mostly starters and shared around the table. We always try as much as possible for as little as possible. The whole baby Mackerel (caught the day before) was served with a lemon, garlic, and lobster oil reduction - simply out of this world. Also, try the Portuguese corn bread! Real food, made with fresh ingredients, by real food lovers.

Never have I experienced such a rude manager since making a complaint about the food and service. Manager offered to have it out in the middle of the restaurant and hung up. (Unbelievable) Avoid this restaurant at all costs it is overpriced and the food is not to a good standard. Do not waste your money here. If I could give 0 stars I would.

Dirty tables ash all over it not wiped of .asked for food then drink 10 mins later. The food come quick bad sign really. We had half chicken with 2 potatoes this come with a bowl of veg between two one carrot half an onion beetroot and Brockley that was well over boiled it fell to bits. The rest of the veg was so dry clearly reheated or well over cooked. We were charged extra for gravy and you needed that for the poor dry veg. We also had two beers that were flat all of this was brought to staffs attention and was ignored I even had to pay a £8 service charge. On arrival of home I called as I really was not happy paying £75 for two roast dinners with flat beer. That we left most of and the over the phone the manager asked me to come back and sort face to face. Clearly offering me out and I won’t be brought down to that to look the bad person in this. The managers retaliation and rudeness is disgusting stay well away save your money a Toby carvery is better and cleaner

Arguably one of few places left with true character left in Bournemouth.

The food and the drinks are at the same level of a Michelin star restaurant, you are gonna be left with the desire to come back and try all the other dishes. Truly authentic and a hidden gem. Definitely the best choice for a quick meal or a romantic date.I Will come back to try the speakeasy cocktail bar. If you are looking for genuine food and amazing cocktails or sherry look no further.

Came in just for drinks only upstairs. Fantastic atmosphere - not your 'usual' bar in terms of layout - someone has really made the effort with the decor. Very friendly and attentive service and the cocktails were brilliant. Definitely recommended.

Wow, last night was an absolute delight! My friend and I were wandering around town, searching for a place to grab a bite to eat, and that's when we stumbled upon The Larder House. Let me tell you, it was a memorable experience! From the moment we stepped in, the atmosphere at The Larder House was warm and inviting. The staff was friendly, making us feel right at home. The whole dining experience was uncomplicated, which was a breath of fresh air. Now, let's talk about the star of the show - the food! Oh my goodness, it was beyond amazing. We ordered tapas, and I must say, they rival the best ones we've had in Spain. Each dish was bursting with flavour, and you could taste the freshness of the ingredients. It was evident that the team at The Larder House takes great pride in their culinary creations. I want to give a special shoutout to James Fowler, who I assume is the mastermind behind these delightful dishes. Well done, sir! Your talent in the kitchen truly shines. Overall, I can't recommend The Larder House enough. If you're ever in town and craving some exceptional tapas, this is the place to be. The combination of a welcoming ambience, uncomplicated experience, and fantastic food makes it a must-visit spot. Thank you to the entire team for a memorable dining experience. Absolutely lovely staff. But overall too expensive, given the size of the platters, which you have no idea about when ordering. A thirty quid platter of lamb is almost the same quantity as a 6 quid platter of leeks. Personal preference is starter, main and dessert, where you know what you're getting. Not given a menu; the only one is written on a blackboard on a wall, which was awkward (obliged to take a pic to view on phone). Its a nice place, glad for the experience, but not somewhere to make a habit of. Had to spend a LOT of money (£180 for a table of 3) to fill us up. Food was good quality however.

My husband had been here many years ago with friends and said it was amazing so I was excited to give it a try… what was once A La Carte is now Tapas, pricey tapas. Don’t get me wrong, the food we had was very tasty and the gin based cocktails absolutely spot on, but after spending close to £100 we left and were still hungry so ended up making food at home. We both had a charcuterie plate with pickles and picos (this was actually 2 meats, a couple of small pickled asparagus spears and some bread stick bites), Wood Fired Breads (actually 1 bread type) with Oil and Beetroot Tzatziki (wasn’t great having to pay £2 for each side dip here which would generally be included in other restaurants), Crab Croquettes with Aioli and then English Grilled Halloumi with Courgette. All very tasty, well made / cooked and presented, but just a shame about the price and the portion size, with it being tapas. The gin martinis were some of the best we’ve had though, hats off to those, and the ladies who served us were fab, both incredibly knowledgeable about the produce and explained everything, so we couldn’t fault the service. Make sure to check your bill, we were overcharged (a till error) by £8 for 2 cocktails, quite a chunk! And a £1 donation is automatically added for Action Against Hunger, we didn’t mind this but it should be a choice rather than being automatically applied. We will return to try some more of the dishes or perhaps the roast that I’ve seen quite a lot of though, we’re always happy to give places a 2nd chance.

Staff very friendly. But sat on a table right in walkway next to the bar.Had to get up 3 times to let people through if not getting knocked by people waiting to be seated and waiting to pay.Table should not be there.Sticky table and salt and pepper.

Service good, but food was average at best. Some of it over seasoned making it inedible and some of it not cooked fully. Shame as I’d expected so much more.

Where do I add the 6th star? This place was that good. The best Saturday evening in a long time. The food was incredible - the atmosphere in the restaurant terrific and the library upstairs where we drunk cocktails until close was superb. A fantastic place. Please, everyone go and give this place a try.

The best place we tried in Bournemouth. Brie was very good, and so was the cabbage. Good service thanks to a neighbour that didn't work there (!).

Sunday lunch is good, local vegetables, service a little slow but then it is mostly tapas so typically Spanish!

Exceptional evening for my 30th bday with 32 guests. Wonderful service and the food was fantastic!

First time visiting, we were very disappointed to see that a pound for a charity and a totally unjustified 12.5% service charge had been added to the bill without being mentioned to us before paying. They really should ask you about these, or at least give you the bill by default before you pay - I'm not sure how legal this is on their part even! Also avoid the croquettas, they're tiny,sloppy and poor value.

Portion sizes not the biggest but high quality food.

Sunday roast was amazing. Very large portions, tender lean rare beef, lovely chicken, great selection of vegetables. Staff very friendly and helpful.

This was an disaster! Food without taste, tiny portions and for every sides you need pay extra. Menu confuses guests and staff! Please do not go there, in Bournemouth are much better places. We have to go for kebab after the meal...

Tiny portions, bland food, expensive for the amount of food, staff quite slow but they were nice. For £50 per person i would expect much better and tastier food, the leeks were awful and dry, steak was ok but i had better including fries and veg. The sides were small and dear for what you get. Had to get takeaway afterwards as was still hungry. Will not be coming back for sure

Went here for our work drinks , what a great atmosphere , lovely interior design and the cocktails were fabulous. The staff were so much fun really friendly and a good laugh aswell as fast servers ! :)

Went here for a catch up with some old friends but the feasting menu was very disappointing. Very average food. No green vegetables and charged extra for the cauliflower cheese. I won't bother again. I had heard good things about this place but for me the Sunday feast seemed more like canteen quality.

Dined here as a table of 13 for Sunday roast and the Larderhouse did not disappoint ! The staff were very accommodating (even when I had a last minute addition to the table). We all had some cracking drinks in the cosy bar upstairs before being seated and served excellent food. 10/10 would come again (my partner is already trying to put a second visit on the cards asap).
