Excellent fusion menu, considerate cooking with great flavour and seasoning. Loved the sharing board, chicken makhani and skin on fries seasoned with chaat!

This was our first visit to Lantern and we were left disappointed by the food and the poor response from the servers. Ordered the beef panang curry in which the meat was very dry and chewy. We told the server that we had left eating the beef for that reason. He gave a brief apology and left. We left Lantern feeling hungry and not satisfied by the occasion.

Had a late lunch at the Lantern over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Fortunate enough to visit on a sunny day so we were able to sit outside and enjoy the views. Opted for a selection of the Asian inspired tapas dishes with rice and noodles on the side. Everything was well cooked, nicely served and very tasty. Would definitely recommend and will be back next time we’re in the area.

It wasn’t our first time at the Mount Pleasant, but it was our first visit to their new outside restaurant, The Lantern. We sat with the stunning views of the Malvern Priory in our sight as the sun started to set and enjoyed a delicious fusion Thai/Indian meal. The food was yummy, but the service was exceptional. A lovely young man, originally from Thailand, was warm, friendly, efficient and professional. This was an impromptu date night with my husband, and it didn’t disappoint. I’d highly recommend a visit.

So disappointed! I was initially so excited to hear Malvern had a new restaurant serving Thai food! And after reading a lot of good reviews it seemed I’d be in for a treat! However the penang, pad Thai, and green curry were all very poor (not unpleasant, just nothing like the authentic dishes they claimed to be) - we were assured by the waiter that the food was fresh but I just can’t see how. There was no taste of peanut in the penang and not a hint of fish sauce, makrut lime or lemongrass in the green curry - the pad Thai was just a load of bland sweet noodles with some veg. I’d suggest the hotel sources the fabulous Thai book by David Thompson which may help liven up the dishes. Perhaps the Indian dishes are better? I’m almost certain the rice was microwaved which is shocking when it cost over £3 per portion. I also feel for a restaurant, whether it’s outside or not, you should be served on proper plates - not melamine. Perhaps just teething issues with a new venture but lots of improvement needed to impress foodie people! I will say, that when we said how very average the food was to the waiter he looked genuinely very shocked so maybe just a bad day? Or perhaps many of my fellow malverners are simply much easier to impress!

Location was absolutely lovely. We were really looking forward to our Thai lunch as the previous reviews have been excellent. I had a green Thai curry with chicken , my husband had pad Thai with prawns & daughter had Beef Penang. I would say my curry & my daughters meal were very average & my husbands Pad Thai was poor. I am sorry to say we were disappointed. Maxine.

Popped in for a late lunch last week with my parents. All had the Thai Red Curry and either rice or noodles. Everything was delicious, good portions and the waiter was lovely and friendly. The restaurant is all new and very nicely decorated. Good choice of drinks too. The top car park is very hard to park in so I would avoid it if you have a large vehicle.

My husband and I visited for lunch. The restaurant was very quiet and despite the wall heaters the room was fairly cold too. There was a good selection of wines by the glass. We chose a veggie platter and several dishes of the tapas. The food was disappointing. The veggie platter was accompanied by cold sliced pitta bread. The dishes were all underseasoned and the hummus needed more olive oil and lemon. The halloumin cheese was served sliced cold.. it was not mentioned on the menu but for some reason I was expecting it to be fried. The salad leaves had no dressing. The hot tapas were better and the Chinese spring rolls were delicious. The menu is a slightly odd selection of Indian, Thai, Chinese and Mediterranean. The waiter was apologetic about the veggie food and deducted the cost of the platter. I’m afraid we would be reluctant to return.

Attractive, comfortable environment. We chose 3 starters as a tapas meal, plenty for 2 and great flavours. All freshly cooked and beautifully spiced, most enjoyable. Service was friendly and efficient. Outside is a great space with plenty of tables and a good view, in warmer weather it would be a lovely place to sit whatever the time of day for a meal or just coffee/drink. We will certainly return - often.

First visit here and very much enjoyed the delicious Thai curries, coconut rice, satay and calamari. The service was friendly and efficient and the space is interesting - huge map of the hills on the wall, beautiful skylight and smart seats. Only pity was that not enough people have discovered this great place to eat so it was very quiet. Will certainly be returning and can’t wait to return. It will be glorious in better weather when we can be outside and enjoy the view.

This was my third visit and I was not disappointed. My friend and I shared Chicken Satay Skewers, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Thai Green Curry, Stir Fried Noodles and Coconut Rice. The food is absolutely delicious, full of flavour and generous portions. Beautifully presented. The staff are super friendly, smiley and attentive without being intrusive. The restaurant is tastefully decorated but maybe would benefit from an addition of some greenery, potted plants etc. I especially like the glass roof. I am looking forward to the warmer months when I can take advantage of their outside terraces. The views are amazing. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Please give them a visit.

Great food & service, free parking & dog friendly. Family of 4 stumbled upon the Lantern after a fantastic walk up the hills with our dog, mid afternoon when most pubs aren’t serving food. Free parking, and very welcoming friendly service. Food was fantastic - fresh & really tasty. The kids and I had Asian tapas such as chicken satay skewers, tempura prawns, calamari, onion bhaji’s with dips - all delicious. Husband had the Thai green curry (extra hot!) which was amazing! They often come drowned in thick coconut sauce, this one was perfect, full of big plump prawns, fresh crunchy veg and a perfect heat and flavour. One of the best I’ve tasted. Service was great, very accommodating, friendly and the pup got water and a few doggy treats which is always nice for him too :)

Wanted to try here since it opened. Finally made it last night. Three of us, each had a different starter/tapas. Mine was the crispy broccoli, pretty good! Friends had chicken skewer and garlic mushrooms, chicken was uninteresting and the mushrooms were not very garlicky! For mains I had vegetable green curry and friend had the prawn one. Watery, not coconutty rather tasteless. So average, like something I’d make at home and still be disappointed by, friend says the same. Friend who had a lamb main said it was bland. It was an expensive mistake I won’t make again. The place had no ambience at all, only one other table in there. I can say the waiter/bartender was friendly and efficient.

The food was excellent. We had four different tapas between the two of us with a glass of wine and the portions were definitely ample. Service was also friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself has a nice airy ambience about it with pictures of the different local hills decorating the walls. A nice Malvern touch. We will recommend the Lantern bistro to family and friends and will return soon ourselves. 😀

We did not stay in the hotel but visited the Lantern, the new cafe/restaurant at the back of the hotel which only opened in September. It was mid afternoon and they were serving food which pleased us as it was a very cold day and we had just walked up the Hills. We had a Thai curry which had lovely fresh vegetables in and my favourite Aspalls cider. The service was great. I particularly liked the pictures on the walls which were all of the Hills. The only downside was it was quite cool in there but it was a very cold weekend. It will be lovely in the outside area in the warmer weather!

Searching for nice pub in the area and wow did we find it. Very busy on a Saturday night which was a good sign. All the staff were extremely attentive and what seemed like a family run business made for a lovely evening. Food was well priced and plentiful all served with a smile. Menu was obviously thought through and catered for all pallets. Well done, we will definitely be back.
