*dog friendly* Pleasantly surprised to find this hidden gem in Carlisle. Great cocktails, lovely staff and clientele. It's got the speakeasy vibe about it. Great outdoor area and it's dog friendly. Shhh! Don't tell anyone.

Beautiful bar that is set underground with ambient lighting and unique character and style. There is also a lovely rooftop garden.

Just popped in for a drink on our way home, definitely going back again 🥂🍻

Interesting decor inside and out, beer garden has two areas and would be great for groups on a sunny day. Nice lagers on tap and cocktails aren't extortionate. Pleasant staff

If visiting the city of Carlisle make sure you make a visit to The Lane Bar. A hidden gem. Love that there are lots of cosy spaces where you can meet with friends and have a conversation without shouting!. Qwuerky and Stylishly decorated, great barman and owner who really looked after us. Highly recommend!! There is seating inside and out. Lovely outside area and balcony area.

We went for drinks and had a lovey time in the courtyard garden. Downstairs beautifully decorated but as it was a lovely day nice to be outside.

Been here a few times, lovely enclosed beer garden to sit in. As the name of the bar suggests it's up a lane to access,you would probably miss it ,if it wasn't for a sign directing you to it. Worth a visit. Staff are very friendly. Will be back once we visit carlisle again.

No red wine. Had 2 glasses of pino gregio, and they then ran out of that. Nice surroundings, though. The woodburner was going to keep us warm.

Damp smell in bar downstairs Pricey for what we had

This is a cool bar that i often find myself going to. The staff here are brilliant and more than willing to offer suggestions if you are unsure. They will always ask about your day and make you feel welcome.

I've always positively promoted this bar as its one of the best in Carlisle when on form but standards have certainly slipped without the owner bring present sat at the bar and she was missing on this occasion. Music was poor, pint of Asahi was poor and the lads working behind the bar weren't welcoming nor did they acknowledge us leaving, a first. Bar was quiet so really no excuses. Please improve and get back to the bar we love!

Very nice to be able to sit outdoors and the inside looked like it would be cozy for a night time. However I think over £27 for a bottle of house wine and a glass of cola is a bit steep. Also many of the outdoor seats were wire / rattan style and we had to ask for cushions. Would have thought these would have been out on a hot sunny day. Prices put me off going back

Nice place to have a drink, music isn't too loud so you can have a chat. Service very poor though, stood at the bar for 10 minutes waiting for a round of drinks as the bar staff were more interested in singing and dancing and chatting with friends

So yesterday we took a steam train to Carlisle… Knowing our friends and the fact we had three hours to spend in this lovely city, we knew we would need somewhere to go for a few cheeky libations!!! So after a little research on the net we found The Lane Bar situated in the historic quarter … Noting the current situation with regard to booking tables I dropped them a message in which I received a very prompt and polite response saying it was walk in only…however, because it looked so good we still took our chances and headed down there, which we were glad we did…. The place itself is just wonderful with underground tunnels and rooms with really cool decor, a chilled vibe and great tunes. The bar service was spot on with a wide selection of drinks served In the correct glassware by a young man with a look of Harry Styles!!! Needing a little something to soak up the long drinks we asked for a snack menu which sadly there wasn’t one, however in a matter of no time we were presented with a really tasty tapas board prepared by Gill the owner… True hospitality right there!!!! Being a beautiful day we made the most the fabulous beer garden which is a real sun trap with areas of shade for those who prefer to stay cool…. We really didn’t want to leave this place, it ticked ever box!!! Xx

Visited this lovely bar yesterday with friends. The owner & staff were so friendly, making us feel welcome. We sat in the garden area & the staff were very attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for helping us to have a great afternoon out, we will be back 😊

Glad to be back at one of our little spots! In the revamped courtyard area with family and a rare glimpse of Carlisle sunshine! Good range of drinks for all, chilled atmosphere: slightly chaotic service but no problem with it as the lass helping us was on her first day! Still feel its a hidden gem of Carlisle and well worth checking out And of course there's Monty!

Lovely surroundings and all in all the lane bar is quite a nice quirky bar. However, on this one occasion we encountered a very rude lady who we presumed was the owner (or at least acted like it). Our query was that the Peroni on drought was not up to the standard it should be, it had quite a murky dirty aftertaste to it. I won't go into detail because I don't want to embarrass the lady but she was directly very aggressive and very rude to our table, and considering we were there for birthday celebrations, the rudeness was not appreciated.

This is a fantastic little bar with quality drinks the variety is amazing the bar staff are very knowledgeable about all the drinks the rooms are lovely well decorated small and very comfortable once in here you'll never want to leave

A nice little warren of rooms to drink in. Mind your head if your tall though. Plenty of cocktails, special drink board. Only one lager on draft no beer. Well worth a visit

Located in a lane off Lowther St , we only went in for drinks and even though it was very busy service was quick.

Nice atmosphere and very nice facilities,I find the cocktails to be a little pricey but they are of a good quality. It's nice to come here when it's hot outside and sit in the beer garden bit

We went only in Carlisle for the night, but I’d looked for a good cocktail bar for after dinner and the lane bar had looked good from online reviews! Venue looked good, a cellar just off a quiet side street not far from centre of town. We arrived at approx 10pm on a Friday night and were informed on arrival that we were only permitted one drink as the bar was closing early (on a Friday night??). The cocktail menu was very limited. Very little atmosphere, if it hadn’t been for the chatty staff this would have been a 1 star review.

If you want the best drinks in Carlisle visit Cameron at the lane bar. Try a Long Lane Iced Tea and get your socks blown off. Also excellent ambiance and friendly staff.

After spending a very hot morning in Carlisle celebrating 70th birthday of NHS, my colleagues (approx. ten of us) thought we all deserved a treat and headed off to The Lane Bar. We sat upstairs as no room in garden and headed downstairs to the cellar (where three staff were dancing to music) to request a menu. We were curtly told there were none and we would have to take a photo on our phone and return with order as not one of the three could possibly come upstairs to take our large order. (Bar was completely empty at this time). I therefore wrote all the order out and returned downstairs with it. We asked for a tab as we intended to have further drinks. We then headed into garden as space was now available. Within a short time we were all taken aback by being curtly told one of our party (young boy playing quietly on his Gameboy) would need to move immediately from table he had taken in case more customers arrived. He would of course have moved if anyone had come in! More customers did arrive ten mins. later and the same woman (apparently the owner) told us we WOULD NEED TO PAY as they were becoming busy. I.E. didnt trust us to pay as bar became more busy. We were all shocked by the way we were spoken to and have all vowed not to return until ownership changes again!!! Mocktail was awful and alcoholic cocktails were very poor. I had an apperol spritz which resembled nothing I had drank before!! AVOID - RUDE OWNER AND VERY POOR COCKTAILS. We did try to speak with the owner to say how disappointed we were, but she had no interest and purely pointed out she was a bar and we had no cause for complaint!!

Popped in here for drinks. Small cocktail menu but we'll crafted and unusual. Nice surroundings and friendly staff. I discovered that they have a "sister bar" which doesn't seem to be on Trip Advisor yet, the Yellow Jacket...go there too!! The cocktails were fantastic.

It's a beautiful bar. Perfect place to relax with a book and a drink. It is on the pricier side but worth the extra money for the added "ambience". Will visit again.

First time here yesterday afternoon with 5 friends. The bar man was very funny and put us all at ease. I had 2 peach passsion fruits they were so tasty!! One of my friends is pregnant and he made up a mocktail for her which was lovely. He definitely knew his stuff. I asked him the ingredients of most of the cocktails on the monthly blackboard before i ordered. The bar itself is on 2 levels we were down in the cellar and it was so cosy and the brick was covered in like comic book pics. Will definitely be back to taste more cocktails. It was £7 for a cocktail which I think is about the norm.

I found this bar to have a good range of cocktails, and liked the fact there were lots of sofas in the basement. Prices were about average I think. Nice decor and service.

£10.10 for a wine and 750ml of beer.. Not even a pint that's expensive wherever you are in the country... But nice little place..

Llegó desde Yorkshire para el fin de semana para el cumpleaños y este fue el primer bar nos cayó en un cóctel. Tenía un aspecto muy guay. Los cócteles eran un poco cara, pero sin duda, lo que se paga, sólo tenía dos Y ME crackered crema. También nos dieron un chupito gratuito cumpleaños :) calidad de folk. Volveré la próxima vez estoy aquí!

We reserved some tables for a hen party with no problem. The staff were fun and couldn't do enough for us. The atmosphere is great and even allowed my aunties pet dog in 😃. We all had a super afternoon.

Mi pareja y yo hemos estado en el bar Lane varias veces en los últimos 2 años cada vez que se aloja en Carlisle. Es nuestro bar favorito! Principalmente debido a la atmósfera relajada así como la gran cócteles! Es tan único y la decoración así como la enorme variedad de bebidas es inigualable. Realmente disfrutar de este bar cada vez que visita, e incluso saludando a los bares de mascotas perro 'Monty' también es genial!

Es un agradable lugar para tomar una copa. El personal es siempre muy amable, siempre me encontrarán en el bar charlando con ellos mientras estoy esperando mi bebidas. Las habitaciones son muy relajado e íntimo, perfecto para tomar una copa con los amigos o en una fecha. La zona exterior es precioso, el personal poner calentadores de gas cuando nos sentamos la última vez. Los cócteles son preciosas y el personal parece muy bien informados acerca de las bebidas.

Went approximately half 9, on a Saturday with the girls for some cocktails! Wasn't heaving but lovely chilled atmosphere, unique gorgeous cocktails on offer, defiantly worth the little walk away from the main hustle and bustle of the centre to find it!!

We nearly walked by as the entrance is down a lane but we are glad we didn't. Really quirky and different. The bar man was excellent really knew his stuff, I ordered a glass of wine not realising they have a wide range of gin and tonics, unfortunately we did not have time to go back but if I am ever in Carlisle again I will definitely return. Lots of small areas to sit in private, chesterfield sofas in the "library " really cosy. The garden looks lovely but we never got to sample this. A really unusual place we will be back.

Popped in a few months back whilst visiting family in Carlisle. Spotted the Absinthe fountain and dasher bottles through a window from the outside and this immediately made us thirsty for something stirred down and boozy. There was about 8 people in our party so we were told we could sit and have our drinks in 'Montys' upstairs, this little bar is absolutely beautiful with woof paneled walls and a backbar to make most London bars jealous. Our Waitress was lovely and our Bartender was fantastic. Its great to see a bar like this in Carlisle and to see them leading the way with forging a real cocktail identity for the city. Will definitely visit when I'm back in December this year!

Out with family & decided to take them to one of our favourite bars. It is beautiful inside & the new reading room/library is gorgeous. They were suitably impressed & will be back with their friends. Monty left a lasting impression & gave us lots of lovely kisses.

I was up visiting my father and friend from London and my friend suggested the Lane Bar as I had a small Dog with me! What a great find, the bar is beautifully interior designed and the owner of the bar could have not been more friendly! With or without the Dog I will make sure I visit when I am back up ... Best bar I have seen in Carlisle!

I loved this place! The staff were super friendly and very knowledgeable. They showed a total passion for the drinks and explained what went into making the cocktails. I had the Manzarita and my partner had The Long Lane Iced Tea, they were delicious. I wish I could have just gone through the entire menu! The whole vibe of the place is really awesome. I'd definitely recommend it to friends.

Not only does this place serve fantastic cocktails but the actual bar is amazing. The decor is brilliant. The staff welcoming and helpful. We will return upon our next visit

Love this place! I have had the pleasure of visiting this bar on several occasions. It has a fabulous atmosphere and the staff are excellent! The drinks on offer are brilliant! Excellent to go in for a few drinks after work on a Friday night, the garden is great in the summer. Overall has to be the best bar in Carlisle which I will continue to visit myself and bring new people to it to experience a fabulous bar FINALY in Carlisle.

I visited The Lane Bar a couple of Friday's ago while visiting a friend in Carlisle. I liked the quirkiness of the bar, a great place to meet friends and chat. The cocktails were unusual and enjoyable, but there was a long wait at the bar to get them prepared! Shame there wasn't table service - so have your friends wait with you or make friends in the queue! My only negative was that the bar staff weren't particularly friendly...but putting that aside I would definitely visit again.

We picked this bar as it was very close to the brickyard. The staff were friendly, drink costs reasonable and a good garden area to get some fresh air and talk. There was also a downstairs area as well which looked cosy.

A beautifully done up bar with very helpful staff with great knowledge of the cocktail world. Came in only wanting a quick drink with my partner but ended up spending all night there! The bartender suggested different cocktails to our tastes and did not disappoint as they were all delicious and if you're not into cocktails they have a great selection of tap beer and bottled beer/cider. All in all we had an amazing night and will be there again soon!

Hi, came here last night with a group of friends, can't get over how helpful and friendly the staff were. We were offered an excellent choice of drinks, with advice on what to use as mixers- sat outside in a very atmospheric court yard, perfect sun trap- thanks, will definitely come back again.

We booked a cocktail class here for my best friends hen party. From the moment we arrived it was fantastic. We first sat outside in the beautiful beer garden and were offered drinks whilst given a menu for the cocktails we could make and explained how the class would work etc. When we were all ready we were taken upstairs to Monty's bar which was totally private for our group and again a brilliant setting. The bar man Cameron was great! He made everyone feel totally relaxed and welcome with clear directions for what we would be doing. We were also given a bottle of prosecco for the bride! We all took our turns behind the bar which was great fun and made the most amazing cocktails (obviously under Cameron's talented direction!) As we were a hen party we were playing games along the way which all the staff were fab at letting us do and even participating in! And we were often reassured we had as much time as we wanted! I would highly recommend this to anyone! In all, I can't give the venue and their service enough stars! Completely excellent and I would just like to say a big thank you!

Visited the Lane Bar for the first time and I think I've finally found somewhere to call my regular haunt... Just the right side of eclectic and stylish without being pretentious.. Laid back and very pleasant surroundings. Lots of private nooks and crannies if you want some privacy and a lovely courtyard if you feel like being sociable.. Brilliant place!

Went for a meal one night and it's a lovely quiet pub and our meal was lovely. Has good size menu for something for every one to eat.

First visit to this bar and I was quite impressed. Firstly the entrance is lovely with a couple of seating areas and a door leading to the garden. We went downstairs to the bar, the barman was very pleasant and talkative and we got our drinks. £4.60 for a pint is quite steep and I wouldn't normally be happy about paying this but the bar and garden more than make up for it. We didn't go into the bar itself but wandered back upstairs to the garden. It is so unique and quirky you could easily sit there all day especially if the weather is nice. There is a speaker outside and quite a few different seating areas. I would say it is the nicest beer garden in Carlisle!Will I be back? .......Definitely!

Fantastic atmosphere, friendly environment , really efficient and welcoming staff. I came in with a friend and we had such a great time. This bar was recommended to me and I would recommend it to anyone who was planning to go out for drinks in Carlisle. Great experience.

Firstly, I should praise Cameron and his bar team - their service all day yesterday was brilliant. They were all incredibly friendly, joined in with our group's banter, singing and (at times) dancing. One dark haired girl behind the bar is, in particular, an exceptional credit to the place.However..... Gill the lady who I'm told owns the place may wish to consider some lessons in how to professionally, calmly and personably talk to her clientele.Admittedly, our group had flouted the rules regarding food in the "VIP" area. Shockingly, we had taken two bowls of crisps(!!) three steps from the two booths we were allowed food in and into the "VIP" area (I keep using inverted commas because the only real difference in this area is the velvet rope delineating it from the rest of the bar - other than that, you'd have no idea it was "VIP"). The bar staff, and indeed Cameron, had seen this for a good two or so hours and said nothing to us before Gill took it upon herself to rudely, loudly and abruptly address the party host in front of her guests and chastise her for breaking the bar rules re: food beyond the rope. Whilst the majority of the group accept that we were wrong (it was an innocent error for most of us) and that it is the bar's policy, it was Gill's unfortunate manner and incredibly aggressive gesturing that soured our evening.I would suggest that perhaps Gill should spend less time drinking in her own beer garden of an afternoon and pay attention to what's going on downstairs before she has one too many shandies and takes it upon herself to create a thoroughly embarrassing scene, ruining everyone's night and ensuring that the vast majority of us won't be back.

I met some colleagues from work for pre-dinner drinks at The Lane Bar. This was my first visit and it will not be my last. I had read about it in Carlisle Living and had wanted to go, so when I found out this was where we were all meeting, I was delighted. I was not disappointed when I turned up. What a lovely atmosphere, very clean, good display of drinks and the staff are friendly. This place is a little gem and wish I could have stayed for longer. I will be back for sure.

We stopped at The Lane Bar on our way back from a meal as we have been in before and our wives enjoy the cocktails.The bartender who served us took plenty of time making the cocktails with fresh ingredients and they were presented in lovely stylish glasses. I would definitely recommend a visit to try the cocktails or a beer and relax in the very comfortable sofas.

I love the lane! My and my husband go there quite often, and even though it's a five minute walk from the main night life it's definitely worth a visit. Love the wood burner and unique decor too :)

What can I say, beautiful inside, different areas to sit in, quirky, funky & fabulous. Fantastic staff & one of the friendliest bars I have ever been in. Vast choice of quality drinks. The garden in summer is amazing. Montys bar is a recent addition & it feels like a qualitly Gentlemans club, elegant, tranquil & classy. It no longer serves food but you are welcome to bring your own nibbles.

This bar is a real gem and probably my favourite bar in the town at present. The only problem about this hidden gem is that it is virtually hidden and away from the majority of the bars in the city. If you take a 5 minute walk from the centre of town down Fisher Street you will find this diamond on Long Lane so not a million miles away from all the other bars but far enough away for the locals to think it is. When the bar is full there's a real buzz as the majority of the bar is downstairs in a Cavern like building with great alcoves to sit and relax in. Upstairs there's another small seating area with eclectic furniture and a quieter atmosphere leading to a fantastic walled outside seating area which is superb in the summer. The real star of the show is the barman Cam who is the man when it comes to cocktails a real craftsman who shows his love for his art. The bar is soon to have a new cocktail and oyster lounge which sounds interesting and will hopefully attract even more punters to this oasis in the busy city.
