Lovely dining room for large family gathering. Portions very small, steak was tough, grisly and terribly overcooked despite asking for medium rare. The sweets were miniscule........very very expensive for what you got. Wine at atrocious prices per glass (£18) for a very average red....Lacklustre, unwelcoming, impolite service from bar staff...... Not a place I would recommend.

3 Night Christmas Package (24th - 27th Dec). We stayed at the Lamb Inn on their Xmas package at a cost of £1,849 for 3 nights which included all meals excluding lunch on Boxing Day. Overall the experience was very enjoyable - it definitely takes a lot of stress out of Xmas at home. The (dog friendly) room was very clean and facilities i.e. toiletries, coffee / tea making were good quality. The food was of a high standard overall apart from the Xmas day turkey roast which unfortunately was quite disappointing. Also, there was no offer of bread sauce, or Yorkshire puddings with our meal and whilst the latter is traditionally served with beef, many establishments now offer Yorkshire puddings as a standard with any roast dinner. Because we had our dog with us, we were not allowed to eat in the main dining room and sometimes felt a little isolated in the lounge area, although tbf the room was decorated beautifully. On a couple of occasions the table wasn’t fully set but this was a minor point. It is appreciated that you pay a premium to stay in a place like Burford which is a beautiful village but on the flip side many establishments are closed during the Xmas period so options outside were very limited and if the weather is poor there is not a great deal to do. Fortunately, it was dry on Boxing Day so we were able to visit several villages in the area which was very enjoyable.

Lovely night away. Friendly staff, good breakfast. Charming property but has very low ceilings in rooms so beware if you're tall.

Nice location and service, but food was terrible and very expensive. The lettuce in the salad wasn't cut, almost no dressing. The potatoes were also tasteless. Not worth the price.

We came for a meal and were so disappointed. The food was awful and the service was just as bad. We didn’t have cutlery when our meal came and had to wait, the food orders were not correct and just nothing had much flavour. For the price I would say do not even bother! We told the manager about our concerns but he just laughed. They did us a price reduction but to be honest £100 bill was just a waste!

Had a two night stay here. I wouldn't recommend the afternoon tea, which at £27 each plus a 12.5% service charged even for residents is a little steep. The building itself is wonderful, and being some 600 yrs old does have wonky floors, walls, and bags of character. The breakfast menu is extensive and of good quality. The shower over the bath is a little low due to the restricted ceiling height. The rooms are a little tired although the bed was comfortable and linen of a good quality. Worth a stay.

A morose end to a brilliant trip. This establishment was recommended to us by the host of our Air BNB. Our party of three ended up grossly disappointed in both the service and the food. We originally booked to eat at 1:30 but after a cheery conversation with the grumpy man on the phone, we were able to move our time to 2:15. Upon arrival, we were “greeted” by who I believe to be the same man we had spoken to. He made a point of saying that we were “running late” for our previous 1:30 booking, even though this was not the case. While on a walk, we decided to move the booking back. A simple conversation would’ve allowed him to grasp this concept before his comment. While it may have been said in passing from his perspective, this was our first interaction through the door and it came across as rude. The service while we were sat was not much better. The waiter did his best to avoid all eye contact as he placed the food onto the table. He did specify what two of the meals were, they were both beef. However, for the pork, he placed it down and quickly scurried away. He was not friendly and this was noticed. When we asked for the drinks menu, we were told that there was only a wine menu by the same bundle of joy from the door. As my friend was still deliberating what to have, she needed some help to decide what to get, be it a soft drink or an alcoholic beverage. While he was well-versed in his knowledge of “every drink behind the bar,” he seemed to have scrimped on his ability to politely converse with customers. He was condescending and made us feel quite uncomfortable. Our hostess was more palatable than the other two men but seemed as if she did not want to be there. We were not asked whether we were paying card or cash before she plonked the bill down on our table. The food itself was okay. The beef was flavoursome but the pork and Yorkshire puddings were lacklustre. The food would have been received better if we did not already have a bad taste in our mouth from the service. A smile and a warm welcome goes a long way.

lovely hotel, character pub with log fires and great food. If staying upstairs watch your head on the low beams. A short walk into Burford which has lots of pubs for such a small town. Would definitely stay again.

Some friends of ours stayed here recently and said their room was exceptional. We met them for dinner and yes, this pub is a must visit for Burford. Great service, fabulous food and the pub itself is gorgeous. Definitely check it out.

A great place to stay. I feel very spoiled with a super comfortable bed in a nicely renovated room. I love the cool details like an electric blind, cool mirrors, and wooden glass frame around shower screen. If I was to be very picky, I would mention that there are no hooks or towel racks in the room (which I’m aware aren’t issues in other rooms). The shower was also luke warm, (also not an issue in other rooms so it could just be me). The bed side tables are also quite small. Despite my pickiness, this hotel has been one of the nicest places I’ve ever slept in, and to me the bed is the most important part, which gets a 10/10.
