The Lake Cafe in Powys

Disappointed. Couldn't go inside because we had a dog. Only non-dairy milk available was oat and cold - so no hot chocolate or lattes or cappuccinos. I asked if it could be heated up but apparently it couldn't. It was a very cold day and we had to sit outside because we had the dog with us. After having read the reviews for this cafe I had great hopes but I was sadly let down.

Nice little traditional cafe not too far from The Lake. They have a one way system in & out of the cafe (reminded me of Covid times !!!) However, staff were friendly & food was good. Clean & tidy rest room facilities too.

Called into Llangorse Lake on the way to West Wales to visit and stay with family over the bank holiday weekend. Free parking (rare these days!) and lovely walks. Cafe on site so we called in for a drink (tea). Served by really friendly, happy staff. Nice tea and not over priced. While we were sat outside drinking it with a view, there was a family waiting for food. Some items had been delivered but one had been missed off. The staff could not do enough for them. Apologising for the late food and offering them a round of drinks as compensation. Not many places care enough sadly these days but I was really impressed with the staff.

Staff nice Ordered chicken burger Roll was stale, and chicken burger was only very small rest of it was OK Cans are cold Would not be in a rush to go back,

Very disappointed!! We come here 2 or 3 times a year I normally have the bacon and egg cheese burger but they could do bacon on the breakfast menu up until 11.45 but couldn't do sausages or bacon from 11.45 onwards??? Obviously don't need the custom. Most cafe's would be only to happy to do whatever you want and be glad of your custom!!!. My wife had a baked potato with chilli, the baked potato was very dry and the chilli looked like it had been warmed up 3 or 4 times!! Gone down hill in my opinion and won't be in a hurry to come back!!!..

We visited the cafe at Llangorse Lake in October after not having been there for some years. We were however delighted to find that it had not changed a bit! It still has the same high standards, efficient service, varied menu, excellent food and local produce. We chose bacon, egg and chips which is a favourite of ours. The bacon was perfectly cooked and the portions were as generous as we remembered. As it was a beautiful day we chose to sit outside and a friendly member of staff brought our food out to us. We cannot recommend this cafe highly enough and are definitely not going to leave it as long before going back.

Very disappointing. I ordered the battered cod and chips. The chips edible however the fish was cheap catering cod and had been deep fried within an in of its life , the price £9.50 which shows you get what you pay for in life. Much better to put the price up and serve a better quality product. Sadly I will not recommending this place to friends despite the beautiful location

Stopped for coffee and cake after a lovely walk to the bird hide and back. I imagine it must get very busy at peak times but it was quiet when we visited. Lovely coffee and a crispy caramel slice was divine. Clean and tidy and friendly staff.

Don’t come here if you have a Staffordshire Bullterrier! Sadly we where really disappointed with our trip to the cafe today after reading great reviews online. We have a Staffordshire Bullterrier who happens to be loveliest and kindest dog on the planet. We where greeted with our food by the waitress telling us how scared and wary she was to come outside with our food because she saw the news last night and a dog “just like ours” attacked 3 people. Firstly, the breed involved in the incident was not a Staffordshire Bullterrier. Secondly- why tarnish an entire breed just because of 1 incident online? It was completely uncalled for and unnecessary. Our dog Reggie greeted her with a big smile and a wagging tail. It made us feel extremely unwelcome. Won’t be coming here again. She came out on numerous occasions and clearly wasn’t “afraid” but more wanted to prove a point and make us feel like we shouldn’t be here. She quite literally turned her nose up at us. The food was ok!

Firstly I want to say the staff were very friendly, however the owner is extremely rude. I asked if it was possible if I could have a child's breakfast as they did not offer an adults small breakfast and I knew I wouldn't eat a large adults, I explained I understood if I couldn't, I was told by the staff and owner that this was absolutely fine, as I was paying I then heard the chef and owner talking about me because I had ordered the child's breakfast. I had the breakfast and as I was leaving I explained that the owner had perfect opportunity at the till to say no and the loud rude comments in the kitchen were not necessary and unfair to make to a paying customer, the gentleman behind the counter apologised, I said it was ok and I was pleased with the food, I turned to leave but then the owner came flying out of the kitchen shouting, I asked her to stop shouting in my face as it was coming across quite aggressive, she did not stop shouting and said she had no problem with me having a child's breakfast, I said ok but we still heard comments, she denied this and raised her voice in my face which came across quite threatening I let her shout in front of people as I felt I couldn't get a word in, when I could finally speak I explained that as a paying customer I did not wish to be spoken to like this she then waved her hand in my face and told me to never return, I remained calm throughout, did not raise my voice back to her, I was polite and let her vent. I left and I will not be returning.

We popped into this cafe for breakfast and I was surprised to see they offer English breakfast for £7 and it was very delicious. It was open on the bank holiday Monday, which was great. The coffee and tea were tasty too. The staff was friendly and the food came quickly. There is a plenty space for parking outside in front of the cafe. Strangely, they operate a one was system. Maybe you should remove that?

Stopped off for some lunch and it was great. Good value and lovely location. Enjoyed my sarnie and huge basket of chips.

Came here after watching our Dofe Group leave. I had a round of toast and a cup of tea the people were really nice and also made us up a takeaway sandwich for later in the day which was well worth the wait. Thank you.

Very quick service even when there was a rush of people coming in due to heavy rain. The food was very tasty and reasonable priced!

My wife and I dropped in for lunch whilst staying at the nearby caravan park. We had a very enjoyable lunch, we sat inside and found it nice and comfortable but there was the opportunity to sit outside as well. I went for the Celtic steak pie with chips and peas, my wife had a tuna baked potato. We both agreed the food was really nice and we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. We would reckon that anyone visiting Llandgorse lake pops in and gives it a try.

Free parking. Friendly, welcoming, attentive staff. Delicious food with lots of choice. The cafe was lovely and clean. What more could you ask.

We did a recce in the area as we intended to take mother in law out for a ride and needed somewhere to stop off and have a cup of tea. The staff were so helpful when they found out that mother was in a wheelchair, and gave my wife the owner’s telephone number so that they could reserve a table for us, and move chairs to enable wheelchair access. They also do gluten free products which is a huge plus for my wife and gluten free menu items are hard to come by. The restaurant was clean, and I could see the staff were proactive in getting vacated tables wiped done, both inside and outside the restaurant, so well done to management in getting staff motivated. Food was delicious and the tea was hot, a plus point for me.

Free parking right outside. Busy at peak times so worth booking. Menu is varied and the food is fresh well prepared and served hot. The staff are efficient. Would go back .

Not very friendly or helpful. Arrived 4 minutes after the breakfast ‘deadline’ and were told flatly they couldnt do toast. Dogs not allowed inside either.

Only been here for cooked breakfast and i have no complaints. Good breakfast for a reasonable price.

Went in with my 4 month old baby and was pouring with rain... 3 people where sat at a table with drink and food. To then be told we had to sit outside under the shelter outside and it was ok for them to sit in there. As it was the owner and 2 of her freinds. I was disgusted at this, as it was ok if you where the owners freinds to sit in side but not if just visiting the lake. This is disgraceful. The young staff behind the till where lovely and very accommodating to us as much as they could. Me and my family will not be going to this cafe again.

I stayed at Llangorse over a weekend in September. I went to the Cafe around 8:30 on my first morning. There was a young boy and girl behind the counter that were lovely, they smiled and asked how they could help. I asked if they're serving food, at this point a very sour, older woman passed and said 'there's a menu outside, you walked passed it on the way in'. I knew there was a menu outside, I just wanted a Bacon Sandwich, if they didn't have it I would have gone without. Very very unpleasant woman. I felt for the boy and girl there, they were clearly very embarrassed at how rude she was. This lady then said something exceptionally rude to woman that came after me.The cafe itself wasn't pleasant; plastic screens etc, a one way system, masks, no sitting inside. I'm a nurse, so I appreciate safety, but this was just silly. It's a shame as this is a lovely spot, and lots of people enjoy a hot beverage in the morning. I didn't return for the rest of the trip. I drank rubbish instant coffee around lovely people instead.Manners don't cost anything. A smile and 'Good Morning' surely isn't that hard?

very nice location to sit outside, good coffee and cakes etc. we had to go back and ask for a top up of hot water for tea as given a very small teapot, but no issue so I think probably an oversight.

Myself and my disabled husband called in for lunch 14 September we weren't allowed to sit inside so sat outside both looking towards the lake.From behind and unseen by us a swan came and took my husband's sandwich and then bit his elbow. We went inside and told the owner or manageress who went very angry saying we are in the country. I explained we live on the Norfolk Broads and wondered why there wasn't a sign. Then she said go and don't come back. Not once did she asked how hubby was or showed any compassion.What a shame the swan didn't take the microwave hard sausage roll .Pat Marsh

There were 3 adults and 2 children in our party and the menu appealed to all of us. The staff were friendly, the service was efficient and everywhere looked very clean. A really lovely lunch at a beautiful spot.

Big choice of food and drinks. Lovely location. Friendly staff. Clean and tidy. Quick delivery on food. Food is proper cafe food. Good covid precautions in place. Nice handy shop next door selling gorgeous ice cream

We stopped off for a quick bite to eat whilst camping in the nearby area. The young female member of staff sat outside by the menus appeared to be disinterested and unfriendly. She seemed reluctant to get off her chair to help and didn’t smile, it was however a very warm day so that might have been the reason for the perceived unfriendliness. The chips arrived in good time after ordering and were tasty, no complaints. We didn’t have much else so can’t comment on the quality of food but the staff left us feeling uncomfortable recommending this place. We understand that it’s been a tough year for the hospitality industry due to COVID but it would still be nice to get good customer service.

This is a basic cafe and shop with outside seating. Be prepared to queue for the shop during the Covid period.

I have been visiting Llangorse Lake since My father first took me there over 50 years ago. I visited on this occasion with another friend on Motorbikes. I went into the Cafe and ordered 2 Coffees and a portion of chips for me. The chips were nicely cooked and adequate for the price charged. The Coffees were as dear as Costa or Cafe Nero. The Coffee was ok but I've tasted better for the Price. The Young Man who served us was Polite open and friendly unlike the Older Woman who worked there who was as Welcoming as a vacation in a Siberian salt mine in winter. She could learn how to deal with customers from a polite younger man who works there.

Very handy stop off after a walk around the beautiful Llangorse. Great location and now with improved outdoor canopied areas. I would like to please ask the owners to stop using non biodegradable containers and cutlery. Such a wonderful area it’s sad that polluting materials are used. Please switch to cardboard when you can. Many thanks.

There was, understandably, a reduced menu by the timeI arrived after pony-trekking nearby. I hadn't had a steak pie in years but it was great - with warm, rich gravy and light pastry. The gentleman who was serving was attentive and working as hard as he could, especially so as he was the only one in the food area that day. I had a decaff coffee to go with it and was fully satisfied afterwards - ready for canoeing on lovely Lake Llangorse.

We ate from the breakfast menu which was school dinner basic but priced accordingly. Rude staff asked my wife to move our buggy out the way with my son in it while we were trying to order. Also asked me to take my feet off a chair when in fact they were not on it. They cleared away my coffee when I'd only drink a third of it. Cash only... See other reviews re rudeness

Had an amazing time on the lake, stopped off at the cafe on the back out to grab a drink and use the toilets. A mature blonde lady rudely snapped at us when we asked where the toilets were located and rudely told us they were strictly for customers and we would have to find elsewhere even though we had children with us. We were actually customers so her attitude was uncalled for and legally anyone wanting to use toilet facilities are not obliged to be a customer because it is a human right to not be restricted from using a bathroom. Her attitude left a disappointing end to our day.

We had coffee and cakes at Lake Cafe it was very nice, as this was the case we decided to go for Breakfast and none of us were disappointed, it was nicely presented and excellent value for money, the staff are very friendly , one thing I will mention is that they only take cash, so beware as there is not a cash point on site and the nearest is 6 miles away, apart from that it is well worth a visit .

Very handy lunch stop before a walk around the beautiful lake, but extremely disappointed that the takeout food is served up in plastic and styrofoam packaging. Shame as this spoils and otherwise good cafe. No excuse for this nowadays.

Being locals we have visited the Lakeside cafe on many occasions. The menu is very good and suitable for adults and children alike from the usual chips, beans and burgers to Chilli Con Carne and Lasagne not to mention a good selection of cakes.

Picture this, it’s a glorious Tuesday in mid October 2018 and after walking miles over the hills and moors we returned to Llangorse for much needed food. Sadly, the two public houses are only open in the evening!Fortunately the Lake Cafe, is open every day except Wednesday.They offer a range of very well priced food, both hot and cold.The staff are welcoming and friendly and didn’t mind us arriving with packs and boots.Whilst this can’t be called fine dining we enjoy our meal, it was just what we needed.I give this gem 5 circle and argue it should be top of the list for LUNCH in Llangorse.

Stayed at the adjacent caravan park and popped in for lunch. Big portions especially the baguettes. I had gf fishcake and chips it was no frills but tasty. Cash only though!

The cafe is v basically equipped and pretty dated. The food is canteen quality but reasonably priced. CASH ONLY

We enjoyed a great lunch and fabulous dog walk at llangorse. Perfect for breaking up the journey from South Wales to snowdonia. We will be visiting again!

We had another nice Sunday Lunch there, the 5th time we have been. A Huge choice of vegetables as well as 4 different roasts and and a vegetarian option. I had the spinach and feta parcels and my husband had the stuffed chicken, both were very tasty.

The breakfast is so good and is in a good location. Very friendly staff and caters for dietary requirements.

After a long walk, a large baguette here was welcome. Food was good and the waiter friendly. Sat outside with the dogs.

Went for a walk by Llangorse Lake and discovered this gem of a cafe. Offers breakfast, lunch and afternoon cake and coffe- tea. Really impressed by the standard of food and the friendly staff. So much so we have been here twice already. An excellent lunch and delicious cake made us visit for a good breakfast before a strenuous walk. I’m sure before we leave we will visit again.

A great way to start the day with a hearty cooked breakfast (served until noon) and a cup of tea. We have been going to nearby campsite for many years and the cafe has recently had a make over inside.

Appetising meals_ chicken curry and chips, burger meal for younger member. Prompt,polite service encouraging us to return for tea of white chocolate cheese cake. Ample car parking and immaculate toilet facilities. We will be back, thank you...

We went with two little dogs ready to sit at a picnic table outside, but were warned about wasps which indeed were too interested in us. We were therefore accommodated in a room just off the restaurant which was perfect. My wife had good fish and chips and I had nice Chilli con carne with rice. Very clean and nice loos.

Rooms kids the Llangorse lake for the day, popped in the cafe for lunch and we all ate and had drinks and kids had cake for not much more than £10.

Told we couldn't eat some small brownies because we "weren't paying customers" even though we were buying about £40 worth of drinks.

staff were very friendly and helpful but the food was very basic and lacked taste in some aspects. the sausages were poor and would stay clear.

I visit this cafe with my elderly dementia-suffering mother most weeks. The staff are lovely - very friendly and they remember - and cater for - mother's little idiosyncrasies. The menu is fairly extensive and ridiculously cheap - we paid just under £10 for 2 sandwiches and 2 cold drinks. Sandwiches are well-presented and well-filled. They do cakes also, of course. The only downside (apart from fairly dated decor) is that they're about 100yds away from the lake itself, but they do have outdoor seating. Closed Wednesdays until summer holidays.

Popped in for breakfast, we had Welsh breakfast, bacon and egg baguette and a kids portion of sausages and toast, very clean very tasty sausages and plenty of bacon served up. Dogs welcome outside only. Staff very friendly happy!

Sarah's recently refurbished Cafe is a welcome stop to take a meal or light refreshment, the coffee is excellent as are the cakes and savouries.

Juxtaposed to the lake the cafe was a welcome drink stop for us as it started to rain. Parking right outside we had a lovely coffee, everything was clean and the staff friendly.

We've found many places closed when trying to get a late lunch but the Lake Cafe was open and serving food. Sandwiches are generous and well filled with a good selection of cakes on offer.

Grub at its best at the nicest cafe at the lake at. Bring cash otherwise you'll go hungry unless you offer to wait on tables or help cleaning up

The food was cold . we had pie and chips and were charged over seven pounds per portion which we could have had in Brecon for about three quid. it tasted awful and there were about two dozen chips...DONT GO THERE...please do not waste your money ..PLEASE

We were campervaning and were cooking a very late breakfast when our grill packed up. I went to this cafe to see if they could give me 4 rounds of unbuttered toast to take away. They said they could but wanted to charge me £4.80!! I said I didn't think that was a very fair price, they said they would do it for £4.00 I told them no thank you. I will never go there again, I will never recommend them. The whole place looked awful, It was lunch time and there was a party of 4 people in there. I wonder why!

lovely cup coffee and husband had fish finger sandwich , which was delicious, dog can sit with you outside under benches.

We ate here after a recent visit to the lake. Good choice of food on the menu, food was very nice and brought to us very quickly. Premises were clean and tidy.

For a tourist attraction in a beautiful part of wales so much could be improved upon especially the cafe, it takes the same amount of time to produce a good bacon roll as opposed to a bad bacon roll, 3.40 i was expecting a good bacon roll instead i got a bad 1.
