Overnight stay whilst walking the Arran coastal route. Old world charm with a really nice vibe!! Set in a wooded dell, with a burn running adjacent. The owners and staff were lovely people - very helpful. And their own brew Lagg Stout (by Belhaven) was delicious. Will definitely be visiting again. Soon!

What a beautiful little hotel, tucked away with a river alongside it. I stopped off here for a coffee, was very warmly greeted and I mentioned I'd had a close call with a motorbike nearly hitting my car head on due to the rider going too fast for the corner. The lovely host then said that the coffee was on the house, what a kind gesture. I wish I had stayed at this hotel at least one night, it's beautifully decorated and such a nice peaceful location. If I ever come back to beautiful Arran I will definitely come and stay here. 5 stars in every way

What a gem this place is! We received such a warm welcome here & would definitely like to return. Arran is stunning and the Lagg Hotel is tucked away in a beautiful spot. Lovely walks on the doorstep through a wood directly down to the beach. Our room was beautifully decorated with a lovely bathroom and french doors into the garden. Ideal for staying with two dogs. We loved the little garden with sounds of the river and birdsong. The food was delicious & the bar was super friendly. Nothing was too much trouble and we had the most wonderful break. If you fancy an indulgent night away this is the place for you. This was an actual open the room door and gasp hotel. Even had our own little space in the garden. Absolute gorgeous. The photos with this review says it all. The service and welcome was outstanding. Breakfast was delicious. The choice of pastries, fresh fruit, teas coffees, cereal and cooked breakfast was superb, it was delicious (we had pastries and the full English). Got to mention Liam who was a joy, everything done for you with enthusiasm and a great smile.

We had Dinner at the inn whilst touring Arran. Food was very good and we got chatting to the owners Jules and Lee. They are lovely and are doing a great job having only taken over in the last few months. Their staff are great too. We ended up staying for a couple of nights in one of their beautiful garden rooms. Breakfast was good and the room was quiet and well appointed with lovely views across the garden to the river. We would highly recommend if you’re looking for a relaxing night or nights on the island. Wishing them all the best in their new life on Arran.

On my first ever visit to Arran, we stopped overnight at the Lagg Hotel. We arrived early and were met by the ever hospitable Jules and Mea (a very chilled out husky). Jules was very accommodating and we could have checked in early but instead, using the good weather, we took ourselves off for a glorious cycle around the southern end of Arran - with a lunch stop at the Lagg Distillery where we enjoyed some excellent bar snacks and the fish platter. Back on our bikes, we cycled over the Ross, a winding, single track road that crosses the island from coast to coast. (At the time we did it, the road was closed to traffic but we'd been told that it was possible to push the bikes over the section that had collapsed and was udergoing repair.) Along the way, we stopped to watch a male hen harrier quartering for prey and utterly oblivious to our presence. We climbed up from the coast and crossing the damaged section, we hurtled downhill to rejoin the coast road. Unlike the Ross road where we met no traffic other than the workmen repairing the road and one lone cyclist, the main coast road was relativley busy but the views south to Ailsa Craig and tiny Pladda with its lighthouse built in the 1780s are well worth the effort. Arriving back at the Lagg hotel, we checked in to our rooms which were clean and cosy with lovely views over the garden to the river, Torylinn Water. After a good hot shower, dinner was taken in the bar - shared with a mix of guests and a lively group of locals enjoying themselves at the bar. The food was good quality bar food from a small but varied menu and after a couple of beers we retired to our rooms for a quiet night's sleep. Breakfast in the morning was served in the dining room. The full Scottish came in two versions; small, which was a considerable quantity of food and large, which no doubt would have tested the table! Croissants, toast and teas anmd coffees completed the feast. After breakfast we took the short walk through the woodland that grew along the steep banks of the river, past Torylinn Cairn to the pebble beach where an agitated sea was building ahead of an increasingly fresh southerly breeze. Suitably refreshed, we retraced our steps and took our leave. I have a feeling that wwe will ne back.

On our recent golf, birding and sightseeing trip, my son and I had a very enjoyable overnight stay at The Lagg. Jules and Lee, the owner-operators who recently acquired the venerable hotel (it dates from 1791), were unfailingly cheerful and seemingly indefatigable as they dealt with a busy Friday night bar and supper trade that stretched past 10 PM but still had the coffee on in the breakfast room before 7:30 the next morning. We also enjoyed the company Mea, their four-legged greeter and concierge. Our accommodations were immaculate and comfortable and the food -- especially the full Scottish breakfast -- was outstanding. The hotel's considerable charm derives in no small measure from its tranquil setting alongside a babbling brook amid trees filled with singing chaffinches and warblers, and a nearby walking path that leads through woods and pastures to stunning views of the beach. Don't be put off by the hotel's remote location; it's one of the many things that makes it so delightful.

We stayed at the Lagg Hotel just a few days after the new owners had taken it over. Given that they were still getting a handle on running the hotel, they were doing a fabulous job. The hotel has tons of atmosphere and the service is top notch. We stayed in the four-poster room which was luxurious with a super comfortable bed and well appointed bathroom. Dinner in the cozy bar was delicious and breakfast the next morning was excellent with plenty of choices. We felt very welcomed and had a wonderful stay. Thoroughly recommended! (PS. Thanks, Jules, for squeezing us in for dinner!)

Lovely hotel in a lovely location at the south end of Arran. Four star experience but not in the way modern bland hotels do it, owners/hosts were very hospitable and friendly, room was comfortable and comfy chairs were well appreciated, resting after a busy day before heading down for dinner. Under new ownership so still ramping up their services, the bar menu was excellent and the bar staff were excellent. Had a lovely beach walk from the hotel through bluebell woods. Definitely returning this way again.

A beautiful meal, exceptional service and a cosy inn atmosphere. My starter was a handsome hunk of ham and chicken terrine with melt-in-your-mouth brioche toast. I chose the vegetarian main: the red onion tart with goat’s cheese was a sublime combination and quite light so I had room for pudding. Two of our party of four female friends picked the same dessert. When the young male waiter arrived at our table and announced ‘two tarts’ oh how we laughed (this is a term of endearment for us). The puff pastry of the apple tart was as fluffy as the cloud inversion we experienced on top of Goatfell, the peaks of apple were juicy and the local dairy ice cream topped it off perfectly. Highly recommend this place.

We stayed here recently for 1 night and weren't that impressed by anything that this hotel offered. The reception staff who greeted us was quite short and rude when we arrived after a long day travelling. There was no cooked vegetarian breakfast options. One girl working at breakfast to cover all the tables, which seemed a bit unfair. Fairly basic for the price of 1 night accommodation. Some good points: the garden out the front is nice to have a walk around. The hotel itself is surrounded by beautiful scenery.

We were staying in the hotel which can raise concerns of being a captive audience but all was good. The restaurant was intimate but not deserted and the service attentive if slightly strange-added to the meal though. I had eaten plenty of fish over the previous few days and chose the pigeon, washed down with a pinot noir. The pigeon was more well done than some may like but it was still moist and had good flavour, so no complaints!

We were looking forward to our stay with our dog. However on arrival we found out dogs are not allowed in any eating areas. This means not even in the pub with nobody there you still can't eat in the pub and are told to lock the dog on its own in the bedroom or car. Totally understand the rule for the restaurant as this always applies wherever you go. This spoiled our stay as not one meal could be had without having one of us having to be with our anxious pooch so had massive impact on our stay due to taking turns to eat. At lunch they have a dog friendly cafe but selection of food really poor. Sorry to it say but if you have a dog that is slightly anxious I wouldn't go there. Otherwise the rooms are traditional but comfy. The food is good rather than great.

My chicken and bacon club sandwich was a bit disappointing - made on cheap white bread which was a bit burnt. This hotel is right down in the South of the island of Arran....we had booked last minute for one night and this was one of very few available so we didn't really actively choose it but we were very happy when we got there. The hotel is in a lovely riverside setting and the garden makes the most of this. The decor is traditional for a Scottish country hotel and the room we had was comfortable and spacious. Staff were friendly and helpful. There was an extensive and flexible choice for breakfast.....it was all very good and was served in a lovely dining room by a very pleasant and efficient lady. There was good local information available in the rooms including details of a few walks accessible from the hotel. The price was near the top end of what we would want to pay but it was good value for money. Wifi was patchy in the hotel if this is something that is important to you and we had no phone signal for a few miles around it however a local man assured us that this will all change at the end of the year when the whole island moves away from BT to another provider

I have to say one of the best 3 course meals I have probably eaten. Everything cooked to perfection. Unbelievable cheese board to share for £10. Superb room and breakfast and fantastic service from all the staff. Thanx very much for an enjoyable stay, we will be back!!

Came here with friends for a meal. Very clean and welcoming. Food was well presented and delicious. Not a huge choice of menu but that didn't detract from quality. Very friendly staff. Goats cheese with beetroot and orange for starter, steak done to perfection.raspberry and granola thingy for pudding and all were delicious.

There has been a hostelry on the site for over 200 years. Our room was adequate but the TV was the size of an A4 sheet of paper. It was impossible to read anything on the screen. There is wi-fi in the public areas but is was very weak and not too reliable. The hotel boasted a restaurant but we had to eat in the bar as the restaurant was only opened when they were very busy. The food was quite acceptable but it was not inspiring being mainly of the bar food type e.g. fish and chips, sausage and mash, pie and chips. With a little more effort eh hotel could be transformed into a good place to stay.

This is a super spot for lunch on a nice day. Fortunately we got one and were able to sit in the gardens adjacent to the hotel. There is a small burn running through the area so you can enjoy eating while listening to the sound of running water. There food menu is pretty good and reasonably priced with the exception of the fish and chips which at £12.50 is a bit pricey. That said, everything that we ordered was well prepared and tasty. The ham, eggs and chips went down well but note that the 2 fried eggs and ham is served on top of the chips, so if you don't want that ask them to put the chips on the side. The Cullen Skink was really good, if somewhat light on smoked fish and the Niçoise salad and chicken and cheddar panini went down very well. This is a good place at lunch time for sure, if you are in the Kilmory area of Arran, give it a try.

We stayed nearby and ate here twice. The service is friendly and relaxed, and although the menu is a bit limited the food we had was excellent, the fish and chips were great!

I don't know why but there are two separate entries in Trip Advisor for this place [publishers please note and try consolidating?]Lagg Hotel is a small hotel with, I understand, only thirteen bedrooms. Apart from breakfast served in the Dining Room other meals tend to be served in the bar unless it is busy. The bar is very handy and usually has a log fire adding to the atmosphere. The food is of a high standard and well cooked; well done owners and staff

Stopped here for some lunch and to get out of the rain. Good unfussy food with great friendly service. The log fire was a welcome touch on a cold dreary day.

Enjoyable lunch from a basic menu. Stopped in passing and filled up with a very good quiche and salad. Nice looking small hotel in riverside setting, would be cosy with fires lit. Friendly staff made for a good experience.

Lovely setting in terms of the location. We found the food to be very overpriced for what you got, ie £7 for 3 not very well cooked scallops! Our food lacked flavour and we were overall pretty disappointed with our meal, and we're usually easily pleased food wise. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you want a decent meal in Arran. Maybe the chef was having a bad day because I see all reviews prior are positive?

Great lunch spot, fab team of polite, cheerful and energetic staff - Megan and Annie in particular are superb. Menu seems more limited on some days than other for no apparent reason but everything produced is good quality, tasty and reasonable portion sizes. Always feel it could do with more tables than it has!
