The Beaney Cafe is spacious with high ceilings and probably a good place to meet with friends if you are a little bit unsure about meeting in a public place at the moment. The Earl Grey Cake was absolutely delicious and the staff, as always, are very obliging and friendly. Definitely recommend this as a place to meet with friends during this Coronovirus situation, as long as they stay open!

We went in at 3.45pm. The couple behind the counter had switched everything / the roll off. A lady and child came in and compliance as she had been walking around the museum waiting until 3.50pm, thinking it would close at 4pm. So I never got to try the cafe as it closed early, and it was not just me that was annoyed. This was on a Wednesday.

Could charitably be described as mediocre. It is fairly clean and relatively inexpensive, but service is lackluster and both times I went they only filled the teapot halfway. They also have a small notice posted claiming to have a four star rating on TripAdvisor, which is clearly not the case - hmm!

This snack bar is a lost opportunity. because of its pull on tourists in Canterbury the Beaney attracts both locals and many thousands of tourists. Unfortunately the cafe area is located in the middle of the building when it would have worked so much better if it was adjacent to the street - where the children's library has been put. The food is pretty standard and the atmosphere is that of a bus station cafe. Compared with the Horsebridge centre in Whitstable and its excellent little cafe the Beaney's attempt is dispiriting...

If all you need is a quiet coffee and perhaps a simple snack whilst perambulating around one of our finest towns then try the Kitchen at the Beaney..Sitting in the 'Kitchen' is like sitting in a miniature school hall with tall windows and 'school' furniture. At one end there is a continual cross-traffic of children and adults moving to other parts of the building and the view of those waiting for the toilets is first class! But I do it an injustice. It's quietly civilised and the staff are polite and attentive. Tasty looking cakes sit temptingly on the counter and a [fairly ordinary] range of pre-cut sandwiches are available ... some simple hot dishes too. Coffee? fairly average at a fairly average price. BUT ... one simply MUST look around the rest of the building with its terrific art gallery and displays of antiquities. Overall a very pleasant experience. I've been before and I will visit again.

I popped in with my two children to have a drink and a piece of cake. They cost the same amount as a normal coffee shop, however the coffee tasted of dishwasher and little else and the hot chocolate was the same. The cakes were dry and unappetising, what a waste of money. We will definitely not be returning.

I feel the cafe lets the whole place down. We go to the Beaney almost weekly for something or other and LOVE the museum, exhibitions, library, talks and all the children friendly stuff. But the cafe is soul less, expensive, service not great and menu not geared for little people (how much for a bambinocino!?). No comfy chairs to encourage you to loiter a while... Missing a trick here Beaney people - it's a fabulous venue and central location!

I did visit this when it was a coffee shop, I see the name has changed and I hope the customer service and training has improved.I had agreed to meet my partner for a light lunch here, I was very early and very surprised to see that, at 12.45, it only had two sets of customers. There were three members of staff behind the counter and I was served by a pleasant young woman. I ordered a cappuccino and paid and then waited, I was told to sit down and the coffee would be brought over. I went to sit down and then noticed there were two dirty tables: not a great first impression. The coffee was made by the young woman and arrived smothered in chocolate, my fault for not mentioning I only like a dusting. The drink itself was horrid: no froth, not enough coffee to milk and looked and tasted like dish water. When my partner arrived we decided we would go elsewhere for lunch, I didn't drink my coffee and the dirty tables were still there when I left!

Right next door to the tourist information office, and with art exhibitions in the same building, this is an ideal stopping point for the tourist. The furnishings are melamine and nothing fancy, but the coffee is good and the cakes taste home-made. Dont be put off by the plastic looking furnishings ! Service v good too.

I had planned to visit this attraction and decided to visit the cafe there for a hot chocolate first. Although there were only a handful of people in the cafe, service was not good (I have no idea how they manage in busy periods) and I was on the point of giving up and leaving, but then my "hot" chocolate eventually arrived. The chocolate had a lovely taste but was not very warm. I intended to take this up with the staff, but one of them disappeared and the only other person left was a man fiddling around with stuff on the wall behind the counter and he ignored me. I gave up.This is in the centre of Canterbury High Street and although it is mainly a so-called Centre of art and knowledge and not a cafe as such, if they are going to provide refreshments, they might at least make sure they are worth the money. It was an expensive cup of luke warm chocolate and an experience I shall not repeat or recommend. I can now see why there were so few people in the cafe!

Nice ambience and friendly staff. Bagels..... But little else on offer. That said my crushed avocado 🥑 and smoked salmon was spot on. It just needs a menu that offers more variety..... Quiches, Homemade Soups would be great additions. Located in The Old Town Hall. Fully Licensed and Coffee/Cake for afters.
