The Kitchen in Brentwood

For many years this was my go to takeaway, never an issue. The last 3 orders have been horrific and I now will never return (found out it is since new owners). My meals have been un edible. The “chicken” in the main dishes is the consistency of a gelatin like spongey watery foam. This has been the same on 3 orders months apart. There is no way this is chicken or 100% chicken, got told by health inspectors they suspect paste imitation chicken stuff. Everyone the whole meal has had to be thrown out because this is so disgusting its made us all feel unwell. They also stopped giving out prawn crackers and the delivery is way behind the time given.

Ordered takeaway via Just Eat. Never arrived despite app telling me it had. Rang shop, left hanging on for twenty minutes. They clearly didn't give a damn. Awful attitude, will not use again. Trying to get refund from Just Eat.

Nearly 2 hours for delivery, arrived cold, drinks were missing, massive hair wrapped in our chow mein, disgusting food and experience. Don’t waste you money here

We've had 2 takeaways from TKE this week & have thoroughly enjoyed both of them! I love that they bother to have vegan options & the food both times has been hot, tasty & full of flavour. Highly recommended

Have not long taken delivery of a family meal from this takeaway; none of us could finish this meal being 4 of us absolutely yuk… chicken that was added to the chow mien was cold even though noodle’s were warm, crispy beef looked very unappetising and extremely chewy practically non edible, flavour of noodles false and could not be finished, had to wait for the second bag of prawn crackers to be delivered as they were forgotten. Therefore following my experience I do not recommend this takeaway and will not be ordering from them again … I ask that more time is taken on authenticity and quality rather than a quick cash fix!

Disgusting, would not feed it to my dog - this is the worst takeaway I’ve ever ordered. We couldn’t eat it, tried to resolve with both Just Eat and even went into the restaurant to talk to them. They just laughed at me! I have now read all the terrible reviews and I’m surprised they still operate out of the dirty, revolting shop front I visited. Avoid at all costs. It’s cheap for a reason.

Good quality however we no longer get Prawn crackers with the meal. Only a minor thing food is fantastic and good value

Singapore noodles had so much chilli powder in it that it burnt my mouth! Had hardly any other bits it should have in there, special fried rice was brown rice that was rank with hardly any meats etc in there. Very poor, will not be buying again!

The food was average , but I will say that one of the chicken chow meins I had ordered, smelled completely of cigarettes and tasted off, I’m assuming it had been burnt but didn’t look burnt, however the second chicken chow mein was fine, this was in the same order too, so not sure what that was about.

All our food was cold and items were missing and incorrect, when my wife called to ask for replacements she was told they could say when we could have them and they wouldn't give us a refund. They thought they'd hung up but didn't and we heard them say that she was taking the piss and we wouldn't receive any kind of refund. I took all of it back myself but was refused a refund and nobody would even admit to insulting my wife or apologise! Worst take away experience of my life!!

Placed our order and told delivery would be 1.5 hours. After numerous phone calls to be told driver was waiting, it was with the driver blah blah blah - 3 hours later food arrived. Won’t bother again. Really really disappointed

Phoned to chase no apology. Food not even hot. Kung po chicken far too spicy, sloppy slow and rubbish. Never again

food was awful won’t be coming back gone so downhill. Chow mein was dry nothing tasted seasoned curry sauce was horrible no flavour and the chips tasted as if the had been re-fried

Delivery was on time but food wasn’t great. I had to throw some of the food we ordered away as it had a funny smell to it and no one wanted to eat it.

The food was incredibly oily. Batter on the chicken balls wasn't dry and crispy, but instead very soggy with oil, same goes for the prawn toast and spring rolls.

We order every week and have done for years but unfortunately last nights chow main was so dry barely hot and crispy chilli beef was burnt looked like it had been cooked over and over again , rice cooked and chips stone cold hardly cooked Was really disappointed with our £30 meal that went straight in the bin Tried calling but no answer or engaged so gave up in the end

Ordered in advance for 20:00 delivery. Arrived at 18:00 !

Food was late. No apology and the order was incomplete. I appreciate busy periods. But with no apology and something missing this is not good for a first impression!!

Wrong dish received. Got beef in oyster sauce instead of chicken. Did not want to complain and wait for replacement. Just disappointing

Delivery driver got lost again, had to go out in the road to find him. Will never use just eat again.

Placed the order at 6.25 and it was delivered at 8pm, 45 minutes later than the delivery time stated. Needless to say the food was cold. Usually good food from here but my family wasn’t happy with it being cold and soggy.

We asked for the food to be delivered at 7.30 due to being at work and it arrived at 6.55pm, which obviously isn’t great! Also the last 2 times we’ve ordered, the food has been cold and bland! Have you changed chefs/owners because this was our fave chinese in Essex and all of a sudden gone downhill? Use to accommodate to our needs and times and now all of a sudden doesn’t :(

Chicken chow mein very dry and the seaweed was so salty, tasted like all warmed up & not fresh, even the chips , worst 8ve tasted, sorry you won't get our custom again, poor quality!!

Food was delivered 25 minutes early whilst my wife was still our so I had to keep it warm for half an hour. Also, I asked for some free Prawn Crackers but did not get any.

We used to order a lot from kitchen express, their salt and chilli squid and chicken wings were lovely but unfortunately it seems like they replaced the squid with something cheaper and more like cardboard. The wings weren't all wings and very dry. Had broccoli as well which tasted like it was deep fried with chips. Quite disappointed, think we'll be finding a new place for chinese.

The squid dish was basically inedible, very dry rock hard. The duck in the duck dish was mainly bird skin and fat.. The rice, noodles and chicken balls were fine. Sorry but we didn’t enjoy the meal tonight..

Food was worse than swan and that's saying something

The order was for sweet & sour king prawn balls, but they had run out, so we ended up with chicken balls. The meal on arrival was luke warm. Not impressed at all.

So much MSG in the food, wasn’t that hot when we got it, long time for delivery although was delivered at time stated. Food was average, don’t think I’ll be ordering again from here

Rather heavy on the chilli and unfortunately forgot the prawn crackers we ordered. One of the dishes was luke warm.

Half the order was cold after waiting a hour and a half for delivery, next to no satay sauce (are we on war rations now????) with the chicken satay, chilli in the satay chicken too???? and a over dose of salt of every dish, would rather drink sea water!!!!

Food not to our liking, might suit others

Food was cold when it arrived. The egg fried rice had no egg in it and was tasteless. The chicken was sloppy with black bits on it and I didn’t eat any of the chicken in my meal.

Asked for no veg in any dishes and all dishes had veg. Ordered chicken balls and got a couple of prawn balls mixed in. I am allergic to shellfish but luckily my partner saw them first....

The batter on the Chicken and prawn balls was way too thick and chewy.

Food was very nice - just wish prawn crackers were included when you spend over a certain amount. Spending £30 and having to pay extra for prawn crackers as well as delivery seems quite steep compared to other local shops

Absolutely horrendous service order the food when it didn’t show up on the allotted delivery time expected I called up they said it was with the driver I gave a half hour call again they said it’s skin is with the driver found a game and our after this has now been an hour of the allotted cook period plus then be a lot of hours that I’ve given them to deliver the food still nothing called again another hour later so it was now three hours late and then they tell me there’s been an issue and had to re-cook my food not happy at all

Food so dry and seemed like it been left out for hours. Was the same in every dish. Certainly wouldn’t order from here again.

Delivered early but not a problem at all

Ordered 2x prawn crackers and they didn't arrive. Said 30-45 mins on website and then when ordered time went upto an hour and a half. Although was then delivered 10 mins early.

Nice food but no prawn crackers

Terrible service. Our food arrived 3.5hours late. When trying to contact the restaurant the first time we was told it’ll be 20 minutes... it jaden time arrived, the second time we called we was left on hold and then hung up on. After calling multiple times the phone went straight to voicemail. Would not recommend.

An absolute shambles ! Food was eventually delivered over 2 hours late , despite calling the restaurant over 200 times .... every time the number was engaged ! Only to receive a £3.00 refund . Avoid at all costs .

Awful food and service. The food was disgusting and overcooked. When I revived it, it was cold. The chips were soggy and tasted bad. The chicken balls, weren’t even chicken balls. It took nearly 3 hours to be delivered. Absolutely shocking service and food !!!!!!

I cannot believe you do not know what the difference is between curry sauce and sweet and sour i order curry has sweet and sour contain citrus which i am allergic to so will i use again nope not till they learn to read the orders right very disappointed and angry

Food was supposed to be delivered at 20:25 but arrived at 21:20 / 21:25 so an hour late and was cold. Understand what is happening at the moment but I would have rather been told it’ll arrive at 21:25 so I could pick somewhere else. Thanks

First time using Just Eat - A Good experience overall Use Kitchen Express usually - never disappointed - the satay chicken was particularly memorable

Appreciate that times are not normal at present, but a 2 1/2 hour wait for a small order is ridiculous. Food was average quality at best and was cold by the time it finally arrived We had to pay extra delivery charges and to add insult to injury did not even receive a bag of prawn crackers! Would not use this restaurant again, even when the world is back together, and unlikely to use JustEat ever again.

15 minutes late. Cold. Food missing. Phoned up the restaurant and the ‘manager’ told me I can’t have a refund for my missing food I’d have to wait a further 2hours after already waiting 1.45hr. So rude he didn’t even say sorry.

Good food but had to wait, estimated delivery time was around 50 minutes which is a long wait for a Tuesday night but it arrived 15 minutes later than the estimated time, could not care less attitude by the restaurant staff whom I contacted.

40 mins late, on arrival delivery driver asked us to pay another 90p as we had ordered salt and pepper chips on the request.they have a cheek asking for 90p when it was 40 mins late

I very rarely bother to write bad reviews, but this place it just such a joke. I'm not quite sure why we've given them so many orders, it genuinely is just a case of them being close but I am completely done with them now.As it's a Saturday, we ordered our food for delivery at 6pm. We were told 45mins to an hour, which was fine. We phone at 7.50pm as we are now starving and wondering where the hell the delivery is and whether we can just collect it. They came up with the most ridiculous excuse which I'm pretty sure we also had last year saying the driver had broken down but was now back so they would start cooking it again. Quite simply, such a poor excuse. DO NOT BOTHER. Such a joke. Learn to run a business. Looking at their reviews, I am not surprised by all the bad ones. Never again.
