Sadly, the Kings Head has now closed, and is unlikely to re-open...another victom of rising energy costs.

Not great, table for 2 booked, was sat in the cold bar area at a table for 8 !!! Food really under par, cod cold and rubbery, was given another option but then didn't eat together, no salt on table, had to ask for sauces, had to get own drinks. By the way baby guinness is tia Maria and baileys bar man. Money was taken off the bill, but didn't really compensate. Pub in super lovely location but won't be going back.

We had breakfast with Santa this morning and had an absolutely wonderful time. The new “igloos” are spacious, warm, and comfortable. Santa was a delight, and the kids loved their super thoughtful gifts. Wadenhoe is a lovely village, and the patio of The Kings Arms overlooks the river. UPDATE: We've been back every year! This has become such an amazing part of our Christmas tradition. Our family absolutely loves it.

After flagging with the waitress that a member of our party was very allergic to mustard, we found a menu item which we were assured was mustard-free, Said person was then the dish with a large amount of the ingredient and was subsequently very unwell.

This review is very delayed due to one thing or another but I absolutely had to leave one. I booked a table for approx 20 people for a Thursday evening in early September for a surprise birthday meal and I am so impressed with the service we got from all of the staff, and the food at The Kings Head. This was our first visit here after hearing lots of good things. We provided as many pre-orders ahead of time as possible to help the kitchen on the night, but there were a few people that were unable to get them back to us but it really made no difference - all the food was absolutely gorgeous, so tasty and freshly made, the whole party was so impressed! The staff went above and beyond to make our night amazing - we had a table out on the terrace overlooking the field and canal, and they’d even put up birthday banners and placed candles around which was totally unexpected but was so appreciated and really helped us out on the surprise element of the occasion too! The weather held out for us too which was fantastic, but we were told they’d reserved a space inside for us too in case the weather turned which was great. I honestly can’t express how grateful I am to everyone at The Kings Head for accommodating us and making our evening extra special. We have yet to return, but I know we definitely will do sooner rather than later, and members of our party have already as they enjoyed it so much. Thank you so much to The Kings Head team - you are amazing!

Yeah, it's okay. They have igloos, but they need a bit of a refresh, there was some water getting in after the heavy rain. Everything else was alright. The service was okay, it was only her second or third shift. It was a Wednesday, how much atmosphere can any pub expect on hump day. I enjoyed it.

This place is very fortunate in that it has a 5 star location. Often when you get a place with great views you find they don't have to try as hard with food or service as there will always be lots of customers. Popped in for Sunday lunch today, and whilst it was very busy (something to do with the September sun that), we were looked after, and the staff can only be given full marks. Lunch was a lamb roast for one of our parties, and we were pleased to see cauliflower cheese as an option (more full marks) and fish and chips for the other. Both meals were tasty, had plenty and again only full marks can be given. Pudding we both had lemon meringue pie, and again superb (and indeed, recommended). Them came the bill ... very reasonable to say the least. Full marks all round and if that way give them a whirl. Why 4 stars? We can all improve is the simple answer. Will we go back? We will!

Lovely, lovely afternoon tea. Had this bought for me as a birthday gift, and thoroughly enjoyed it. We are now planning to go again. If you try you will not be disappointed. Be aware though that this is an old pub in a very old village situated down a hill. There is no way to access this pub that I could see without using stairs at some point. Even if you are in the tea room (entering from the car park) access is easy but there are steep stairs if you need to use the toilet facilities. So bear this in mind if your mobility is a bit limited. That said it is a lovely well decorated venue which I certainly hope to visit again.

Came here for a birthday. We booked one of the pods and the lovely staff had decorated it with some birthday banners and party poppers before we arrived. The service was excellent, the staff were kind and the attention to detail was great. We had three steaks and two portions of fish and chips. They also brought out some sausages for our dog!! It was all cooked to perfection and the steaks were much bigger than what they stated on the menu! Would recommend coming here all year round. The pod was warm and if we got cold we had temperature control on the heater!

Got here at 11am already very busy parking by the river a pound an hour max stay four hours excellent place for kayaks canoes paddle boards very picturesque. Once finished on the river a old English church on top of the hill travelling through the meadows . A good appetite built up a visit to king's head tea rooms . If you love cakes and scones and a cuppa wow delicious tea served by the pot mug or cup . Plenty of seating laid out in front the river lined with ash pines and willows small snack and drinks bars on main lawn. The service polite waitresses and cashier very helpful and efficient service and quality foods . Alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks served a pot of tea £2.95 very reasonable and pot makes two mugs if raining seating inside pods or in main breakfast area. Small criticism is no park for kids to play in and we all know kids want a swing a slide or roundabout while we drink our tea and chat and they shout for a push . I will have lunch at some point and update this post as liked it here very much .

Been again today after being asked back by landlady and service and food was five star. She was very apologetic for what had happened previously and assured us it had been dealt with Had table booked for 5 people, after being seated had to ask for menus, eventually ordered drinks, had to ask again for children's menu but it didn't come, neither did the drinks after 20 minutes and nobody came to take our order so we left, shame because the food we saw looked good but need to sort the service.

We were led to believe this was above average - ho hum... Service, whilst friendly, was slow. Finding a wine list took some 20 minutes. After another reuest when it arrived it was crumpled and stained. As it was warm night we decided to eat outside - tables could have done with a good wipe, and the floor had obviously not seen a sweep for some time - cigarette ends all over the place. Menu was nothing more than average selection of pub food, and from arrival to food arriving took one hour. On the plus sign - food was hot, and acceptable, portion size - substantial. (No need for a starter.)

We stayed here on two occasions, in our campervan to the rear of inn. Quiet and good location. We enjoyed a nights sleep during both our stays. The staff at the inn are fabulous, welcoming and friendly and the owners are really doing a great job. The food was delicious and the ambiance of the inn was just what you’d hope for, log fire burning in the hearth, dog friendly and lots of positive chatter. I’d recommend this as a stopover and eatery.

Me and my husband arrived at the restaurant with our 6 month old for my sisters 18th birthday meal, we have been here on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed our time here, however this time was different. My mother had booked a table for 6 people and a baby , which was accepted over the phone, when we turned up we were greeted very rudely by a staff member , who pointed out children are not to be in the restaurant past 6 o clock, the lady then stated that this information is ‘plastered’ over the website, however when looking on the website there was nothing stating this, or certainly not ‘plastered’ all over it. I do understand rules are rules and I respect that, however the tone in which this information was delivered was very rude, it was almost as if we had brought in a disease, I really feel these rules need to be made more clear. Following this myself and my family left. We then headed over the road to the Duke of wellington where we were accommodated excellently by polite friendly staff , they even moved chairs around for us. We had a lovely meal , the food was so tasty, cheese board was great, worth every penny. We will not be returning to the love of wine, however the Duke of wellington we definitely will be.
