Went for the Sunday carvery which was spot on, great selection, all the foods topped up regularly, also had dessert which is quite expensive however when you see it and taste it you realise why it's not your usual bought in desset from a restaurant, it's quality, home made proper dessert, definitely worth the price wanted

Extremely good food with large menu

Fantastic food, great staff and fab service.

Had been told by a friend the Sunday carvery was good so decided to give it a try myself. We didn't book , ( only two of us ) and we usually go quiet late for dinner, 4pm ish , but think it would be wise to book as it was very busy throughout our time there. Good real ales on tap and the carvery didn't disappoint . Great value for money. Plenty of other options on the menu if a carvery isn't for you.

Really good food, especially roasts etc. Lots of home cooked options. Senior citizens (60+) menu reasonably priced, drinks a little expensive though, but not overly so. The venue has a main restaurant area, bar area and separate function room. Friendly staff. A very popular place that's easy to get to and decent car park. As a group we visit regularly and always enjoy our food.

Great evening hosted by Hailsham Festival at the King's Head. Murder Mystery night with great food and actors. Thank you to all involved.

Be coming to you for years love everything about it x the last few times there is a man a the bar very loud swearing all the time I am not a prude but it ruined my last meal I could see staff did not like it x I have other friends you said the same surely the staff are aloud to tell to stop if not the manager so to complain not my thing but having worked with the public all my life this is not acceptable x

Fabulous food experience!! Very kind staff, homemade food, live music.... You can have a drink in the patio while you are waiting for your table.

WHAT A fantastic meal. WE invited friends there, even the said, it was the best Roast dinner they have 'ever' had NOW that is praise indeed.

You can see into the kitchen it's spotless and the standard is excellent whether you're looking or not I believe that that standard states the same the word is continuity You want to go somewhere lovely and receive thether it's your mum or your family or somebody knew that you were inviting to go with you you will get the same service as I said I love that word continuity Enjoy

A wake was given.for a close relative in the function room, where a buffet and socialising were both enjoyable considering the circumstances. Many thanks to the warm, efficient and friendly staff.

Food was lovely,good choice of menu,waitresses worked hard,service was a little slow at times,not surprisingly, as I was in a group of about 40 people.However,it was worth the wait as we all enjoyed our food when it came.Portions were plentiful,nobody left there hungry!

We went for a roast dinner with my family for a 3rd birthday. It was great food and the staff were friendly. The pub itself was lovely. Very pleased with our visit.

Had to be the best roast carvery anywhere in the southeast. Fantastic chef and great range of vegetables and unlimited gravy!! The latter is so important! Sitting in the old pub side of the venue is definitely better if you are a small party, but book ahead, it's really popular

We were looking for a Sunday carvery as my better half has allergies, a carvery allows better choice over a fixed roast or lunch menu. From my first phone call to Katy Sunday morning to finishing our delicious lunch, Katy and the other waitresses could not have been more obliging and helpful. Katy organised with the chef some specific meal alterations to assist us. What fantastic service, i think the best we have ever experienced. This wonderful service being delivered whilst the restaurant was full of other diners. Thank you Katy, you have done wonders for the Kings Head.

If you like simple pub food then this is the place for you. Nothing fancy, huge portions and very reasonably priced.

You were nothing but difficult & challenging and as far as “the drip” of a member of staff was concerned, all she did was try to resolve your issues. We all had a wonderful meal and always do at the king’s head …thoroughly recommend this restaurant and we will be returning soon !

So rewind to over a year ago, we attended the king’s head for a family gathering, New Year’s Day. We placed our orders, over an hour later food started coming out, my order was forgotten, and my kids ordered chicken nuggets and was informed only at this point they had run out. So placed an order for a dessert instead for my children instead of the meals. They did offer to make my dinner I said it’s ok cancel mine as everyone else had nearly finished their food and had moved onto drinks / desserts.20 mins later they sent out the meal that was missing. I explained I asked for it to be cancelled after it was missed, and was still charged for it. I queried the bill as I didn’t receive it and asked for it to be cancelled. The waitress was rude and a drip. Overall the food that day was old, reheated and disappointing and the venue is dirty. Rewind to the weekend just gone my mum wanted to go to the king’s head for her birthday - not my choice after the last visit! We ordered food the chips came out clearly 2 batches were made, one batch cold, dry and needed throwing away. And the other batch cold undercooked covered in grease and even the cheese wasn’t melting as they weren’t cooked or hot enough. My mum informed the waitress about the quality of the chips, to be confronted rudely by this member of staff. Who told us she doesn’t have time to speak with her and if you don’t like it don’t come back. My mum asked for management to have a chat with her… well rude is an understatement, she clearly doesn’t know how to handle customers or take critical comments about the food when it’s awful and again she told us to leave and don’t come back, whilst the other owner proceeded to shout at my mum telling her to shut up. All because you inform them the food isn’t up to standard nor the staff, their answer is to chuck you out. I would rather eat a ready meal, it will be warmer and more freshly cooked than their reheated food without the disgusting behaviour of the management. You don’t treat or speak to people that way. AVOID - save your money you will be dissatisfied.

It was terrible the chips were raw and the waitress started mouthing off to us and we got chucked out it was terrible

Lovely Sunday roast, plus desert

We went to a Sunday carvery and it was excellent

Cracking roast dinner as usual. No complaints whatsoever.

8 People 70th Birthday. 1pm Sunday. Table pre booked, entered Kings Head, courteous friendly staff showed us to the table. A staff member helped to fix up a Birthday banner for us as well. We all went carvery option. Although almost peak time, we were shown to the carvery area, plenty of options, roast pork/turkey/beef /potatoes, batter pudding , carrots, peas, boiled potatoes and other veg available. Plates warmed and we all chose what we wanted. Very helpful and pleasant “ carver” and assistant. Food perfectly cooked, and good portions of meat offered. Enjoyed by all. Different “ desert” choices, apple pie&custard, ice cream, and others chosen by our group, quickly served, again in good sized portions. We opted for a coffee/Irish coffee selection between us, to end the meal, this was bought to us quickly as well, even though the rooms tables were all taken with other customers. Excellent service, great food cooked perfectly, pleasant and friendly staff all made a great atmosphere and a party to be remembered for all the right reasons. Will return again 10 out of 10 Thank you.

This is a place where I would say customers' views vary widely in some aspects. We can all agree that the service staff are amazingly friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is pleasant, but younger people may feel they're visiting an older relatives' professional home, mostly due to the largely indifferent clientele. Food was very complicated in my opinion to score as most of the dishes, especially the deserts, have been a completely vast pleasure to our eyes. I wish my starter was my desert as I personally felt that was my favourite part of the meal. Others felt they preferred their main, but then there was a discussion between "normal" paying customers and "older," which pay less so supposedly receive less, but they didn't agree. Your revised chips/ fries were lived by each of us that had them! Keep them skinnier than fat hahaha

Last minute family gathering. Food was disappointing . Carvery was cold. Desserts served without utensils when we asked for utensils we were told to wait but no one brought any.

Fair and honest pub grub. (Visited on Sunday) It is not fine dining, but not claiming to be 👍. A better pub vibe away from the function room, so book that if you can. Been several times and more than happy to visit again.

The food was superb and very generously portioned (impressed at this). A good selection/variety on menu and staff were switched on. Waiting staff were attentive, polite and did a grand job of catering for a large table. *Photos of menu attached were as of 09/12/23.

Amazing meat pie, loads of quality beef, and lovely pastry. Had a nice chocolate brownie for dessert, which also hit the spot. Nice pint of Harvey's to wash it all down with. Will be visiting again.

Food was very good (I had chicken supreme) but disappointing lack of choice of beer... I have nothing against Harvey's Sussex Best but, at 4% not really what I need after a day's cycling!

We enjoyed this village pub with a great friendly atmosphere and very nice food. Highly recommended in fact we will be stopping here next time we are visiting friends on the south coast.

We stayed in a Travelodge half a mile from this place and walked there for our evening meal and drinks. What a wonderful find, the place is very well kept and very clean including the toilets. The menu and food were fantastic. You are told when you order that food is cooked to order and can take 25 minutes so you know what to expect, but it is worth the wait. Lovely fresh home cooked food which is delicious. Prices slightly higher than your normal pub for food but definitely worth it. We will definitely be back. If you are in the area you must visit.

Stopped off for a Sunday roast, en route home to Kent from Brighton. Food was plentiful, hot and tasted amazing. The service was friendly, quick and efficient.

The Kings Head is a great pub! It is by far the best roast in Hailsham and we often go for the roast alone. They provide lovely home cooked food and have a great variety of meals that are all so tasty! Service is great as is the atmosphere. Would highly recommend to anyone that is after great home cooked pub grub.

We stopped off here en-route to Eastbourne. The menu was extensive with lots of choice and, although we hadn't booked, we were quickly given a table. It's obviously a very popular pub for grub, and understandably so. The waitress who served us was very pleasant, and the food was good. The only downside was that because it was so busy, we had to wait quite a while for our meals. Ordinarily, this wouldn't be a problem, but we still had a journey to finish. It also took a little while to find someone available so that we could pay our bill. Despite this, I would definitely recommend this pub and would certainly eat there again.

Today me and my family went here for a fathers day roast and it all started well. Lovely waitresses and service until my dad received a second flat peroni. My sisters boyfriend went back to the bar and requested a new one for my dad- I've worked in hospitality before and it happens! No big deal to pour another pint when one is clearly not right :) but however an older man behind the bar decided it would be okay to accuse my dad and my sisters boyfriend of 'being on dope' after he chugged on the faulty pint and served it back to him. My dad bit his tongue and sat down. He does have a temper but he equally wanted to keep the peace for father's day. Shortly after a lovely waitress (tall, long brown hair) came up to us and apologised on the older man's behalf and poured my dad a new pint and it was perfect, my dad was more than happy with the beer but still peeved at the man. Not even 5 minutes later the lovely waitress come out crying with her bags and is leaving. It becomes clear that this older man had been giving her verbal abuse behind the scenes and we all where outraged. My dad goes up to bar and stands up for the waitress and all of a sudden the older man and his mate as well as an old lady are surrounding him accusing my dad of pushing his weight around and hurting staff. Huh? How about you start pouring better pints and treating your staff like humans before accusing my dad of such b*llsh*t. We have been coming to the kings head for years and have made friends with most of the staff from regular visits, the older man needs to lower his ego and stop being so high and mighty with the girls there because workplace abuse is vile. I've talked my dad out of a police report but he begged me to speak his truth so that's what this review is. Thank you so much to the waitress and all the chefs, but a big f*ck you to that miserable old git behind the bar. Happy fathers day.

I made a booking error today on Father's Day,but the staff were so accommodating and even though they were very busy they found us a table not to disappoint our party We had the carvery,which was exceptional The staff were attentive and friendly Would recommend

Took friends to lunch absolutely fabulous steak pie 11 out of 10 for service big thank you all.

It was ok but not what I was hoping for as we came up two see a friend for the day so may go back or look for something different

We had lunch at the Kings Head which again serves excellent food all on hot plates and very attentive and appropriately responsive staff. They took on board the needs of our autistic granddaughter in the handling of her as she had gone into a quiet phase. Thank you, Katie, for your time and kindness to her. We have visited here over the last four years and have always found the food and service more value than the price we're paying for the meal. Have recently been to a Bistro pub in Old Bletchley and they could learn a lot from the Kings Head .

Not really organised for a large party of people, service took so long, everyone eating at different times, and not enough of some food options as run out so people had to change there mind on what was available. Suggestions. Pre take the order a few days before so the chef can get prepared and all the tables involved in that party can have their food brought out at the same time. Also make sure there are enough waitresses on to serve for the whole of the time needed while the large parties are still in the building up to their final bill payments .not finishing their shifts if the job are not complete. Little disappointed

Excellent food good service the pub hada lovely atmosphere and was recommended to us by the travelodge we were staying in .

We had a lovley time at this pub, the atmosphere was so nice and we was doing a surprise party they let us decorate how we wanted. The food was amazing and good portion sizes. We also we had accommodation booked there the room was very spacious and clean. Big shower room . Tea and coffee and a kettle , and also a hair dryer. The only thing I would say is bring a big towel they are provided but are very small , I always bring shampoo and shower gel so that's not a problem for us but if you forget it then there would only be the hand wash to shower with, also would be nice to have a glass of a water or a bottle of water for in the night also on arrival we was told breakfast was an extra £15 per peron so opted out just think a little pricy for 2 people £30 .but other than that a very good experience and I would stay here again. Nice staff and friendly team.

First time we have been here and it was a family lunch with 8 of us. Each trying something different from the menu. All agreed our food was great, well cooked. Really good value for money and served by polite and friendly staff.

Very busy pub with an excellent menu, we went at lunchtime and had the pensioners menu which was superb and represented fantastic value for money. I have no hesitation in recommending this pub.

Great grub top place for local food in Hailsham. Shame its up for sale 😕🥺 it will probably loose the standards. Prices will increase and quantities will be hugely lower on your plates. But make the most of current owners. Before there off to pastures new. Visit this pub to check out for yourselves 😊👌🏻🍺🥂🍽

Enjoyed a lovely meal at The Kings Head. Delicious home cooked food, the best steak pie I've ever tasted. Followed by Banoffi Pie. Exceptional food & wine, great service & fantastic value for money. Looking forward to my next visit.
