The Kings Head in Poole

Great food and the Badger Brewery beer is kept in excellent condition. Does a Sunday roast, booking is definitely advisable, includes a dessert in the price.

Regulars to the Kings Head, last night we tried the 5 course Christmas Menu. We both had the delicious spring rolls to start, which came with an oriental style salad. This was followed by a sweet potato, coconut and chilli soup which was very welcome on such a cold night! I had sea bass for my main course, which came with lovely crispy pancetta, spring onion mash and veg and my partner had the vegan option of mushroom stroganoff pie which came with the most amazing roast potatoes! Dessert was raspberry and creamy white chocolate roulade and it was all finished off with coffee and a mince pie! The food was absolutely delicious and, as always, the service was warm, friendly and impeccable. There are plenty of options on the Xmas menu, including the traditional roast turkey and Xmas pud. If you’re looking for generous portions, a warm and Christmassy atmosphere and proper home cooking then give the Kings Head a go.

Was there for a Halloween night, with 3 course meal and a War of The Worlds tribute. Superb. The meal was excellent, and the entertainment was very good indeed. Looking forward already to next year's show. Top that then?

Found the King's Head pub whilst on a weekend break in Poole. Had a lovely 2 course Sunday lunch, excellent food and such good value for money. We were made very welcome even though we hadn't booked a table, lovely people and great service. It obviously is popular with locals and highly recommended if looking for a traditional pub and great food. Thank you.

Went to this pub as was a little hungry. We both had 2 course Sunday lunch for £13.95 which was an absolute bargain. Very generous portions and really tasty too. Will definitely return

Came on a day visit. Stopped off to have some lunch. After walking around, looking at a few, all walking distance from each other. Decided to give this one a go. Was greeted by a man on the bar..when I say greeted, I mean we asked if we could go to the garden as we had a dog and the attitude we were given was appalling. The first impression completely ruined the atmosphere here, so we got up and left. Wouldn’t recommend. Never felt the need to write a review about anywhere before, but the guy in the bar was so disrespectful.

Popped in for a meal with my Wife. We had just left the Rope and Anchor 2 doors away after a shocking experience. The welcome was excellent. The drinks were top notch and the food was good quality. I would highly recommend this dog friendly pub to all.

The pub had plenty of room when we first arrived, by the time we left it was very busy. They have a furry friends menu as well as 1 for us. The wine list has suggestions by each wine to compliment the meals being served. There is a pool table and a beer garden. You can also buy a hot drink, they sell amongst other s, badger beer. They offer free venue hire when ordering the buffet. There is no parking on site and no specific accessibility toilet, 2 small steps and 2 doors to get through to the toilet. They have the use of ramps to get to the beer garden if required. There were people of all agesin the pub.

We called into the Kings Head as it was a dog friendly pub and the three of us plus the dog were getting peckish. We ordered three different dishes and they all arrived together piping hot and plentiful. The barman was cheerful, helpful and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely use the next time we are in the vicinity. Thanks . 😀😁

Whenever we have family down, it's here we go to, which is quite often, doesn't matter how many of you there's always space. Lovely food, cannot better it on any day. Just pop in and take a chance when passing. It's a truly lovely pub, back again tomorrow. Thank you.

We were looking at eating on or the quay in Poole. Fortunately for us we could not find anything on the quay that suited.. so decided to head back towards the kings head. Oh, how glad we're we that we did. Excellent service. Wonderful food and a lovely friendly atmosphere. We had the steak off of the menu on a Saturday lunchtime. Very very close to one of the best steaks I have ever had, so tender lean and delicious. Accompanied by onion rings chips peas and tomato. Well done to the kings head. Amazing food, service and such a lovely pub. Will definitely return next time we in Poole. From a Dorchester grockles 😊

What a great Sunday lunch we've just had at The King's Head! A perfectly cooked roast was thoroughly enjoyed by us and the service from the friendly staff was exceptional.

It was amazing, shouldn't be posting that on here because it'll be even more popular and I won't be able to get back in for one of their delicious roast lunches, because itll be fully booked! Honestly, couldn't fault it!! My new go-to for Sunday lunch!!

Huge thanks to Dale and his team for a lovely meal and experience. We were booked at another pub but decided to go here instead, so pleased we did. Food, excellent value for money, we haven't had a roast this good in ages. Well cooked and presented, like home from home, crispy roast spuds delicious, veg and meat delicious too and home made apple pie and sticky toffee pudding with custard, equally as beautiful. Dale was warm and friendly and funny, a charming man, just the right man to run this lovely pub close to the harbour. When we are back to the area we will be back for more. Thanks again all. Five stars from us :)

This pub is visually appealing, however, there is nothing appealing about the aggressive nature of the landlord, who is flippant, rude, shouty and extremely disrespectful to his customers. He literally shouted at my boyfriend (a customer) for using a charging socket for his phone without permission, claimed the reason was because his wife was worrying about paying the bills (even though we were technically helping him to pay those bills by ordering two expensive beers in his pub), yet happy to use up the electric for a room full of light up Christmas decorations even though it’s now Dec 29th. Electricity bills surely mustn’t be too much of an issue then, eh? So the word hypocrisy also comes to mind. If you want a friendly welcome, this pub isn’t for you. Avoid.

Very beautiful setting and good atmosphere. A good place to come and have a drink. The Christmas decoration is superb.

I stop here occasionally for a nice cold pint of Guinness after football matches. Atmosphere is classic British vibe which I often enjoy. Can't go wrong with a calasic but of British pub. 👍

Always my favourite pub when in Poole. The landlord and landlady are beyond lovely. Food is super yum. There is a little hidden garden in the back. I can't recommend this pub enough!

Good quality Badger beers are served, a single bar, with a pool table. Fairly basic interior, but makes the most of what it has to offer.

Called in for a bite to eat. The food was great. The vegetarian chilli was good. And the pie had plenty of meat in it. Even the dog managed a pint. Okay she had water. But she enjoyed it all the same. Good value, 👍

Had another lovely lunch here today the banter from the landlord was good having our party in fits of laughter. The food was excellent especially the pear and ginger crumble. Will definitely be booking again.

We enjoyed two excellent evening meals accompanied by real ales. There is a popular pool table and juke box. The beers were Badger Best, Fursty Ferret and Tanglefoot. Just 100 yards from Poole Quay but nice and quiet compared to the hustle and bustle.

A fabulous traditional old Poole pub. Nice friendly locals. Great selection of beers etc. Sunday lunch 05 February 23. A selection of beef. Pork or gammon. We had pork and beef. Both were fantastic served with many vegetables and roast potatoes incl horseradish or apple sauce. Great value at £11.95 each and a dessert if required. Thank you

A homely traditional family pub. We both had the tasty Sunday roast, one beef, one pork freshly cooked by the landlady, followed by apple crumble and bread and butter pudding deserts at £11.95 a head. We'll worth it. Very friendly landlord and landlady. Quick service. Dog friendly too.

An interesting pub close to the Quay

Our regular lunch stop when we're on a shopping trip to Poole. Everything is clean, staff are friendly, food is great. Good prices.

We popped in on Saturday evening for what we expected to be a simple pub meal at a reasonable price. We had no particular expectations, but were delighted with the quality of the food and enjoyed the landlord's friendly banter. The fish & chips ordered by my husband were succulent and cooked to perfection, and the slow cooked belly of pork was the best I have ever eaten. Would definitely recommend.

Got the bus in to Poole yesterday. Had a bite to eat along the front then decided to have a wander round the back streets where we stumbled upon this gem of a pub. We had a very friendly greeting from Kerry who was working behind the bar. I’m assuming it was the landlord that was also there but we didn’t get his name. He had a great sense of humour and made us feel really welcome. I had the best beef and horseradish sandwich ever!! My husband, niece and nephew had the fish finger, fish goujons and ham and tomato sandwich which they said were also excellent. Lovely pub with a lovely garden out the back and the toilets were absolutely spotless!! Overall, a really great pub and being publicans ourselves we were very very impressed - well done to you all ♥️ A visit to this pub is an absolute must, we will definitely return when we are in the area again. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.

Very friendly and helpful staff . Six of us called in for food and we had our dog with us. pub was full at the time so we found a space over three tables at the back of the pub . The landlord came over and told us he had put a tables together for all of us to sit on . Food was very good 👍 and would recommend 👌

We had an amazing cream tea. Two of our party were lactose intolerant, they were looked after superbly as we all were. I would highly recommend.

Went to the karaoke with friends and had a great time singing along. Friendly staff and the locals welcomed me like an old friend. Nice atmosphere too and will definitely join you again.

Great place great food, found kings head as jolly sailor let us down after booking in for Sunday lunch, popped in spoke to barman and explained and said we were 4 adults and 3 dogs, he got us a table straight away, explained menu, we ordered got drinks. Nothing seem too much trouble, didn't get name of 2 men working Sunday 22 May afternoon but they are both a credit to your pub, made us very welcome and we even stayed for pudding, next time visiting poole we will be back, thank you for turning a potential hungry afternoon into a very enjoyable one 👏👏👏

Old fashioned type of pub, which is not a bad thing. However not remarkable either. And little sign of gluten free ales, sadly.

Wouldn't let us park a scooter (as in a non motorized fold up scooter) inside the premises) barman said the landlord wouldnt allow it. Explained it was worth roughly 1k and we wouldn't feel comfortable leaving it outside (as asked). Apparently this was non-negotiable and we wouldn't be served while the scooter was inside the bar. Barman couldn't explain why this was the policy. Locals only kind of dive, head to the Antelope or Rope and Anchor if you're not a regular!

Dropped in whilst on a weekend break in Poole. A nice old pub with a good range of Badger Brewery beers. Friendly welcome. We both had the pies with mash, one steak and ale and one chicken,ham and leek. Enjoyable.

Popped in on the off chance of a Sunday Roast, and were treated to a delicious 2 course roast dinner for less than £11 a head. The portion was a good size, and we nearly asked for a straw for the gravy. Apart from the wonderful food, the atmosphere was fantastic, friendly and welcoming and we will definitely be coming back. Highly recommended ***** 5 stars
