Great little pub with a good range of ales and nice background music. No food available yet but I believe it's on its way

Proper traditional pub with the most delicious home cooked food at unbelievable prices! Real sense of community between the locals and staff, everyone is so friendly. The man that served me I believe was called James. It was the best customer service I have ever had, as soon as I walked in the door I was greeted with a smile and a hello. The service was perfect and for that reason I will happily be returning weekly !

If you like your real ale kept by someone who takes pride in their cellar and you want to drink it in a proper old fashioned boozer with no jukebox then this ticks all the boxes. Friendly and helpful staff. Great whisky selection. A real gem. If you are after Sports TV pub try the main drag. We tried them but ended coming back and finishing the evening here. Loved the Potty Ale !

The Kings Arms is a traditional old fashioned pub. Not one of those quaint, totally unspoilt gems, but the sort of pub that was commonplace throughout the UK about 30 years ago but now is becoming increasingly rare - two separe bars, both fairly small and simply furnished, a predominantly local clientele, darts, and you have to go outside to get to the toilets (which for me is a plus). There are four handpumps with a good selection of varying ales mostly from smaller breweries and food is available lunchtimes. They won't be winning any Michelin stars here - it's simple fayre but exceptionally goof value. I enjoyed a roast pork dinner with roast potatoes, a good selection of vegetables and, of course, gravy. It's certainly not fine dining but when you get a big plateful like that plus an excellent pint of ale and they give you change from a tenner, you really can't complain. There are a number of Airfix model aircraft hanging from the ceiling.

I couldn't put it better than stated in the CAMRA Real Ale Guide: 'Traditional fare at great prices'. You wont find anything too exotic or exciting on the menu but what you do get is proper British grub in massive portions. Having completed my work for the day in record time I decided to indulge myself with a big pub dinner. I opted for Fish and Chips (Standard for me) which was great value at £5.75 and Bread and Butter Pudding. These dishes weren't gonna win any Michelin Stars any time soon but were hearty and served up in massive portions that left me uncharacteristically disinterested in entertaining the notion of any kind of tea latter on that day (Or for you Southerner's: 'Dinner' as you incorrectly label it!) . The only disappointing aspect of my visit came upon receiving the bill and realising I had grossly underspent on my work expenses allowance and could probably have afforded another 5 courses and 3 pints. The locals were all very friendly and chatty and i got talking to one particularly interesting and engaging fellow who was optically challenged/ partially sighted (One of those must be the P.C term for it these days?) and ended up giving him a lift into town.

My wife and I were very disappointed to be met by a raucous elderly group of men as we entered the pub. We didn't realize that food was not served in the evening. The young barman was having trouble keeping the old boys under control. As we left one of them called my wife a bimbo. This is not good enough if you want to attract more than locals to the pub.

We were out dog walking, and decided to stop for a bite to eat before my husband had got back with our drinks (we sat in the courtyard unaware dogs are allowed in) the landlord had a bowl of water for our dog! What service our dog was very appreciative. We enjoy baguettes with a salad garnish, fresh and nicely presented just what was needed after a good walk!

A pub that's like pubs should be. No television; no jukebox; just nice beers and friendly locals and hospitable staff and a dog. And a jar of pickled eggs behind the bar. If I've described your idea of pub hell, that's fine: I didn't want to see you there anyway. But for those of us who appreciate a pub that genuinely has a pair of older gentlemen playing dominoes in the corner at any given time, this is where you belong.
