Terrible service. We had booked and had been asked to wait to one side and someone see to us. They didn’t, we then picked up our own menus so we could start looking and then had to remind them we were still waiting to be seated. Waitress then came and said we could sit anywhere! So why couldn’t the bar man tell us that (don’t know if he was the owner or not)? The table was not set. We ordered our food and then had to ask for cutlery and condiments. The food was lovely, I cannot fault it (well the sprouts were raw but you get this at most restaurants). We asked for a doggy bag which she was to provide but it never came. I then went to a waiter nearby and told we were waiting for the doggy bag from the waitress and he just looked at me with a puzzled look. I asked him to go in the back and enquire. Which he did but met the waitress at the door, now there were a couple of them, and they discussed it and kept looking over and laughing. He came back and told me the doggy had been forgotten about! It must be too far from the table to the kitchen for the waitress to remember. We are not upset about the doggy bag just the way we were treated by the staff both on arrival and when we left. Spoiled toe whole experience.

Martin and Dawn have worked tirelessly during Covid supporting the local community. Excellent pub grub at proper Yorkshire prices. The Birkin chorizo burger is a must. Great atmosphere and can’t beat sitting in front of the log burner.

Lovely village pub, with good pub food & warm, inviting atmosphere. Real fire, Covid safe, very welcoming & has become a ‘community hub’ of support during the pandemic. Once this is all over I thoroughly recommend a visit. Thanks Dawn & Martin - you’ve made such a difference to village life in what has been a very tough year for everyone.

The best pub in the world. That probably sounds like an exaggeration, but for me, this is *the* quintessential English pub. When I close my eyes and imagine a pub, it looks like the Roebuck Inn. A warm, inviting atmosphere with real coal fires, relaxed conversation, tasty and very reasonably priced drinks. In the Summer, a great beer garden. The perfect place end a countryside walk. Whenever my friends visit York, I make sure to take them here - and every time they've comeback, they've made a point to visit the Roebuck Inn. Pubs like this are unfortunately a dying breed. The village owes Jo and Amanda a debt of gratitude for running the place, they are always super friendly - Appleton would be at a huge loss without them here.

The pub is quite nice. But the hotel is absolutely awful. The room we stayed in (me and a mate doing a bike ride) was a deluxe room. A double bed which was two single beds put together. And a single bed. The mattresses were probably the worst I've ever slept on. But the worst thing was that the shower/bath was actually in the bedroom. With no cover or screen over it. One of us had to go downstairs for a drink whilst the other had a shower and vice versa. Unbelievable. Then the following morning we'd left the bikes in the cellar cos there was nowhere secure to leave them. Tried ringing the contact number on the booking & left several messages. No answer. This place is cheap. But it's cheap for a reason. If you can find somewhere else to stay in Selby then in my experience I would.

What more can I say than amazing food and service. We went for mother's day lunch and I am a celiac and they was more than helpful changing things on the menu so I could eat it. Telling me what was gluten free and wasn't. Also I'm a very picky eater and I ate everything of all 3 courses I had. They was amazing with my daughter who was only 5 took her to meet the chef and allowed her in the kitchen to roll pizza dough and give her a balloon. The meal was amazing and will definitely be going back again very soon.
