The King William in Amber Valley

Quick visit for a pint on an autumn evening. It was on my list to visit, but had to make a special effort as it doesn't open until 4.30 pm midweek. It was worth the effort. Good real ale. Nice fire. Nice atmosphere. Very friendly barman.

I didn't try the food, to be honest, it's not what you go there for I think. But the beer was superb, the atmosphere charming, the decor was a little bit of old England. A marvelous place.

Dropped in for a pint and greeted by a very entertaining and courteous barman. Excellent beer, great atmosphere. Thank you, will drop in again.

In on a Saturday night for a couple on the way to a do at Makeney Hall. Lovely old pub full of character. Dog friendly, nice crowd, good atmosphere. Had a well kept pint of Landlord. Well worth a visit

Love this pub , my Gran worked here behind the bar back in the 30s and met my grandad who had a flat at the top of Milford social club. When they got married they lived on Rykneld road littleover. The King Billy is a treasure.

It's a old real ale pub .it's a stone building log fire. Looks quite picturesque from the outside . Not for away from the river Derwent Usual bar snacks.

Very old quaint place but not much choice of ales so settled for a cider. Bar person was very welcoming and may return there in the near future.

The King William is a small historic pub on the road between Derby and Belper. The kind of nice, traditional place with occasional live music that most older guys like myself really appreciate. When busy - which it was upon my visit - it can feel a bit cramped; there's only room for maybe 30 people?! Great atmosphere though, cozy decor, popular with the local people and pub crawlers between Derby and Belper (if you're in a group, get a zig-zag ticket from The Sixes buses in Derby so you can hop on and off at the different stops - if you're 5 people, it's only 3 quid a person!). Decent real-ale selection, plus of course the full bar range. Just a good, solid traditional real ale pub. Within walking distance you'll find a few other nice places, too (the Strutt Arms and The Holly Bush).

Very friendly staff and public. My first visit and I wish I lived nearer. Its an old world pub, the sort I remember but not a plastic one trying to look old. Comfy, inviting and atmospheric, and the Guinness was very well looked after. A real drinking pub.

Just paid my first visit to this cracking family friendly pub, and it won't be my last. Lovely traditional atmosphere. Definitely one for the ramblers and folkies amongst us judging by the music and other customers on a Sunday afternoon.

Best time to visit is in the winter months, a raging fire, warm welcome and good beer, can you ask for more. A musical event is put on I believe most weekends (not sure, please check)

The musty damp smell always makes me feel this place is not healthy, could do with a real good clean , although still an enjoyable little stop.

I've tried to like this pub but I simply cannot. The attitude of the people behind the bar varies from condescension to aloofness depending on their age. Also, when they stage live music, the artists set up at the far end of the bar which means the only access to the toilets is by exiting the pub on to the A6 and re-entering through a side door.

Worst pub I've ever been to. Rude punters. One was abusing her dog by shoving the poor thing with her foot. The dog wasn't even misbehaving. Virtually no choice of ales or beer compared to other pubs nearby. No food. Landlord and landlady don't have a clue. Really don't know what people see in this place. Don't bother with it. The 5 star reviews baffle me.

I had the most wonderful time. I had a extended stay and it was sooo good, the staff were great, felt like one of the family. Hoping to return, if you will have me, on my next trip back to England
