Great Park for the kids 👍🏻 just let us get our drinks from the bar …. table service for drinks in the park is bonkers! we waited over 20 for 4 drinks to arrive

35 of us from a local club attended our annual dinner at the King Charles on Thursday 22nd Feb. We were seated at 5 tables and the food arrived at each table in order. Starters , Mains and Deserts were praised as excellent by all in attendance. The service was faultless considering there was a lot of table changing between courses.

Started off really well as soon as we walked in we were asked would we like a drink . Food ordered but very slow on the delivery . Food was good . Service after that went down hill . Our plates didn’t get cleared away till we asked . No waitresses to be seen . So the bar man did it .. he took our orders for desserts then waitress came over to say a few were not available . I just think the service was not that great . Staff seemed very un interested .

A party of 10 of us dined here last night. We preordered from The Christmas Menu. The food was delicious and served by efficient and friendly staff. A lovely evening, thanks very much.

We love this pub, and since certain changes in the village it is even more important to hold on to what is essentially a tradition village pub. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is good old fashioned pub food that is well cooked, well presented and sensibly priced. The nachos are to die for and half priced Steak night is a game changer. A great selection of beers, wines and spirits a reasonable prices. The gardens are well designed and separated for comfort. There is a kids area at the side with tables and play equipment. Then there is a garden to the front with covered areas, a patio, fire pit and a pizza oven. If I had one gripe it would be the opening hours can be a bit hit or miss, but as a village pub this can be overlooked. The King Charles is a pub for the community that serves the community. It is not a venue that is just there to turn a profit for some middle aged men and women sat in a boardroom with no consideration to what the locality wants. As a pub it is a traditional as the fish and chips it sells and the London Pride it pours. Proving totally that Fullers knows what is needed where others have missed the mark. These places are becoming few and far between in the UK and should be celebrated before we lose The Great British Pub forever.

The most delicious beer battered cod ever… wow… u fortunately I had to share it with my wife as her mum is cooking a little later on.. Very nice pub and even nicer staff - Bruce and our server were A* - a great example of top notch hospitality and service. We were viewing a property in the area - even if we don’t move to the area we will definitely stop by again…

After a busy weekend myself, my partner and I decided to pop to our favourite local pub for some lunch, a couple of drinks and some much needed catch-up time together. The food was great, well presented and we were looked after well. Thankyou King Charles. I try to avoid pubs on my day off, but it’s always a pleasure for a tired landlord wanting sone time out. We absolutely loved having our event here! Dawn and the team were attentive and took great care of our large group (40+). The weather was good, so they hosted us outside but they had a good backup plan if the weather had turned. I would strongly recommend the King Charles for hosting your event.

As I have an allergy to potato skins I asked if the kitchen had any other chips as the chips have skins on. I was told that that’s the only chips they do. I find it hard to believe that they do not cater for people with this allergy. I’m sure I’m not the only person who has asked this. I was offered extra salad.I went for mashed potatoes which they also could not guarantee that this had potato skins in it. I would like to see at least two choices of chips on the menu. The mash did not compliment the chicken burger. Please offer an alternative.

We went for dinner this evening and sat on benches to the back and side of the pub. Whilst we cannot complain about the food, which was really very good, the whole experience was ruined by a group of young children playing with a leather football in the area in which we and many other people were eating. There is an abundance of play equipment for children in this area, which our own children were enjoying, however there were at least eight boys playing football literally around the tables at which people were dining. We moved once, after our table was hit and drinks knocked over. My partner was then hit in the stomach by the ball. We asked a member of staff politely if someone could tell the children to take the ball elsewhere and we were told the children would be spoken to. We did not see this happen and the children continued to play. Shortly after, we saw the ball hit the windscreen of a car in the car park. Whilst I understand that this is a family pub (and we came with children!), surely there should be a policy that restricts children playing football amongst the tables that people are eating at? We spent a lot of money on food and drink this evening and couldn’t enjoy any of it for fear our plates and glasses would be knocked over at any minute by a leather football and our requests that those playing be asked to stop were ignored.

I arrived with a group of friends and walked towards the front door. Our path was blocked by a lady who said “have you booked?”. “It’s a pub”, I said, “we’d like a few drinks.” “Sorry”, she said, “you can’t come in unless you’ve booked”. “But I don’t want a table, we just want a few drinks”, I implored. “No you can’t come in, you have to sit outside, it’s table service”, with all the outside bench tables with reserved signs! We say down snd eventually a friendly lady came and served us. Weird indeed. Is this really the way to treat customers? It’s a pub. It has a bar counter I could see over her shoulder. It’s not a fancy restaurant. Needless to say, none of us will bother to go there again.

We turned up without a booking and was told it was fully booked but we could sit in the covered section outside. Outside was nice, the pub was busy and cosy and welcoming. We are moving to the area and mentioned this, the manager (I think) chatted to us, recommending local areas, groups etc, so friendly and made us even more excited to be moving just up the road! We will be regulars. Great vegan and gluten free options.

My daughter and I often visit ,where we are greeted by a very pleasant waitress.The food is excellent and the pub is very cosy.

To be greeted at the door by a waitress with a large number of nose piercings didn't get us off to a good start. Maybe I'm old fashioned but none of the staff looked professional or gave that impression. Perfectly friendly but not really appropriate. We'd hardly had a chance to sit down before we were asked what we wanted to order - a good thing none of us wanted long to make our choices! My Buddha Bowl was fantastic, the fish and chips two of our party had were fine and the Veggie Cottage pie was 'okay - but nothing special'. We'd hardly finished before our plates were snatched away and then a dessert menu presented to us. Having chosen and ordered, again at great speed we waiting about 15 minutes for the desserts to arrive. Were they worth waiting for? No. The cheesecake topping was a gelatinous mess that peeled of the base and looked like rubber, the 'crumble' wasn't crumble. It was stewed fruit with crunchy oats sprinkled on the top and heated. That is NOT crumble. When we got up to leave we noticed chips on the floor under our table. None of us had ordered chips so they'd obviously been there from a previous diner. The positive I can report is that it was very good value for money.

A group of us for together for lunch , we had reserved a table and just as well as it was very busy. A last minute addition to our group wasn’t an issue and we were even offered a choice of table . Our waitress (in the main) was Grace , she has served us previously and is always very pleasant and efficient. She even had the courtesy to point out that as they were catering for a large party there would be a delay in our meals arriving which would s never an issue as long as you’re made aware. We had the pie, jacket potato and brunch and all was to everyone’s satisfaction . We’re already arranging the next one, thanks again.

Nice pub and friendly staff but they force you to use table service so you're constantly waiting for your next drink. Just let people order drinks from the bar for goodness sake!

You can go into a packed shopping centre or you can choose a clean, spacious and airy pub for a family meal. We chose the latter and were rewarded with good quality pub grub and a pub that's clearly worked hard to stay Covid secure....

Some dishes unavailable at 7.30 in the evening. Initial choice came out undercooked and there was no replacement. 2nd choice was okay and a concession on the bill helped, but overall, not great!

Delightful and pleasant staff served us on a Monday lunchtime when the govts £10 was on. Good location; family pub; beer garden out the front; reasonable size inside. Food was satisfactory but a little pricey for what it is (£13 for cod and chips should mean that it is cooked perfectly but it wasn’t - batter could have been crispier). Good portion size. (Tone of the place lowered by reliance upon those God awful sachets of condiments. Everyone hates them so get rid of them - nobody should be denied a good shake of vinegar from a bottle. What are you meant to do with empty sachets? You have rubbish on the table which is just horrid). Inside is just about OK but I nipped in a few years ago when it had been recently refurbished so it looks a bit tired. Overall : OK.

Our second visit post lockdown and the staff at the King Charles are doing a fantastic job. Great service, lovely food and a super setting. An order error was quickly sorted and we were impressed with the efficient way this was dealt with. Thank you and we look forward to many more visits.

Well done to the staff and landlords at the KC for a great evening. On the first day of pubs re-opening, post lockdown, they did an amazing job in making us feel safe and still providing great service. The pub garden was busy without being crowded and service, under the circumstances, was efficient and cheery. At a very challenging time for pubs generally, the KC pulled this one out of the bag and delivered a great evening. Thanks.

We had a birthday Sunday roast for 9 of us and chose our local pub, not sure how they would cope? We had no worries. All the roasts ordered came on time and hot with plenty of extra gravy, sauces ect. Everyone was impressed and staff really friendly. The vegetarians were impressed too! Highly recommended for Sunday dinners.

Went with a group of friends for a Christmas Eve drink and were entertained by the delightful band and choir with everyone joining in with carols and singing. Song sheets, mince pies and mulled wine added to a wonderful afternoon and one that won't be forgotten for some time. Congrats to the pub for being having such as great community spirit and it was great to see it filled to the rafters.

We had our work function yesterday and my food was cold! Cold chips, nothing worse than cold onion rings and my bbq chicken burger, cold and like rubber. Condiments offered after meals were served. Maybe could not cope with 11 orders !

Dawn and Darren are the best of landlords and their team, especially Claire, Sophie and Bruce providing a warm welcome any day just make you feel as though you are the most important customers. We love the place....you should give it a try

Just had a wonderful Sunday lunch at a very lovely pub. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was great and the pub was very cosy.

9 cyclists, met up 10am, left cars with pub, round trip of 25 miles followed by friendly welcome and warm fire. Really enjoyed the food. My chicken and veg curry was superb, beautifully served and a snip @£9 only

Wandered in to the King Charles for a quiet pint and snack to find that it was curry night. Lovely display of four curries and a lovely vegetable dish. Help yourself to a starter then rice and curry try them all. Good selection of beer and lager to wash it down. Lovely Evening

First time visit here for a Saturday lunch. Lots of families already enjoying the sunshine and eating outside meant a long wait for food (just under 40 mins) but we were made aware of that when we ordered and had some of the spicy peanuts to nibble on with our drinks. All our meals (shepherd's pie, burger, veg chilli and katsu curry) were well made and very tasty and good value for money. Would definitely come back.

I stayed at a nearby B and B and had read some bad reviews about this place, I was apprehensive about going but it was the nearest pub, What a surprise. The place is lovely. The decor is fresh and clean, The staff were friendly and polite, and was reasonably priced, I didn't eat but what I saw and smelt looked good. I returned every afternoon/evening of my 3 night stay and was no different. I would certainly return to this place on my next visit. In fact I can't wait until I do.

We visited The King Charles recently and had a lovely meal, although the wait for food was a bit long (30+ minutes) The atmosphere was pleasant and the place looked clean and well cared for.

Don't take any notice of the bad reviews from 2 or 3 years ago. Things are much better now. This is my local and I eat there regularly and always look forward to it. This by far the better of the 2 pubs in the village. Sunday lunch is really good value.

Came here with my wife and parents for an afternoon bite to eat at one of our nearby local pubs and it didn’t disappoint. 3 of us had well made burgers that tasted great accompanied with battered onion rings, a salad and chips and one of us had the fish and chips which were well battered with a good proportion of cod to batter and not too greasy! Everyone was happy and all enjoyed the chocolate fudge brownie with ice cream! Highly recommended for a casual lunch or dinner of handmade food at a reasonable price.

If this lively local had to be compared with a colour, I'm afraid it would be beige. Average beer, average food, average ambience. Ah well...at least the howling teenagers smoking and drinking out the front seemed happy enough.

The garden is lovely & great for the kids. We visited on the bank holiday Monday we had nachos to start, which weren't very nice, I've never had nachos topped with bacon & onion with a side order of a yellow, non cheesy sauce...We didn't eat a great deal of them.

Have visited The King Charles before, but this was my 1st visit since the reopening & refurbishment.

We were staying locally so called in here for supper, sadly this isnt somewhere we will come very often which is a real shame as it was a lovely meal, great atmosphere and lovely staff. Food was fast, tasty and not at all expensive. would definitely recommend, added to the fact its dog friendly made it the perfect evening

One of their glasses broke in my sisters hand through no fault of her own and instead of replacing her meal with a fresh one they gave her a side plate to pick out the many shards of glass or said she can pay for a new one. Disgusting customer care. Very disappointing.

Popped in for a quick lunch before going for a walk, what a great find. Very warm welcome, very clean & tidy pub. Great choice of food, we settled for a sandwich as didn't have too much time. Freshly made fish fingers in a light batter, delicious. The staff were very welcoming, friendly & efficient. Big grassy outside area for sunny days, quite a big childrens play area. Haven’t eaten in the KIng Charles for a few months and we were pleasantly surprised.

Took the wife and two kids. Pub garden has a nice play area and slide for the kids. Pub inside was very nice and the food was excellent. Soft drinks a little expensive but food reasonably priced. Kid friendly and hard working and friendly staff. Would highly recommend.

Choose this pub because it was roughly halfway between my daughter’s home and mine and we wanted to meet for her Birthday.

Country pub with a great view over surrounding countryside. Have not been for many years as previous experiences weren't great. What a transformation! It's now a popular pub that serves good traditional pub food at reasonable prices. Friendly staff and efficient service. Only gripe is that the menu is not on their web site - however they happily emailed one to me but missing a trick I think. Will definitely call again.

Poor pub. Food was awful. Someone was shouting and swearing upstairs which ruined the atmosphere. Never returning! Poor experience!

Very disappointed - especially as it was my birthday celebration. Some of the most tasteless food we have ever tasted. Very mushy tasteless vegetables, dry roast potatoes, and those who ate meat said it was also tasteless. In addition, I specifically asked if a vegan menu was available. I was assured it was. That was untrue. There were two options: the inevitable chilli option and something that was described as nut roast. This was a mushy bolignaise type sauce with a few nuts scattered in the sauce. I know veganism is not popular but most places manage to do a whole lot better that this pub - and no options for a vegan dessert. I also asked for a table by the fire. I got a table by the window - six of us squashed into a small space. Service ok.

It was lunch time on the last Saturday before Christmas and the pub was jam packed. The atmosphere was friendly, the log burners offered a warm & cosy feel. We had reserved a table and everything was ready for us. Despite the crowds the service was quick & our meals arrived together & in good time. We ordered a variety of dishes, several vegetarian & everyone was happy with their choice. I’ve become a bit of a regular here & almost always opt for their chicken burger which has pretty much become legendary. If your not sure what to choose; go for that!

We dropped in for a bite after work, slightly worried that the kitchen might not be open at 5pm. The service was very friendly and the food tasted really good. There are vegetarian and vegan options, although none of us sampled these.

We were looking for a place to eat, just before Christmas and most places were unable to accommodate us. We went into the King Charles and they made us very welcome and served up a terrific meal even though they were already very busy. The staff and food were fantastic and they made us very welcome, unlike the other pub (Cart and Horses) in the village. This pub is obviously the place to go when around Kings Worthy

I have rarely had anything but a first class meal at The King Charles. The menu has a good smattering of pub favourites and homemade dishes. The management and staff are friendly and always keen to help make the experience positive. On this occasion, I had the rib-eye. It arrived rare, as ordered, and was flavoursome. I rounded off with Eton Mess which was lovely. I’m looking forward to my next visit.

A group of us visited for lunch after a recommendation. The staff were more interested in cleaning the bar than serving customers and had to be prompted several times to take food orders for each course. Of the group, 7 out of ten were very disappointed with the quality of the food. The main issues were that the vegetable were very undercooked and the potatoes, in particular were hard. The chicken pies also appeared to be undercooked and my King Charles Burger was totally unappetising. On the other hand, the scallop starters were excellent though there could have been more scallops! We are very unlikely to visit for lunch again.

Called in for a bite to eat after a hospital appointment with my elderly mother in law. Although it was late afternoon I was surprised to find the the pub was running a playgroup with kids screaming and loud talking young mothers, not really the atmosphere I was hoping for. The sticky table and children running about while we were trying to eat was a little distracting and disturbing. This is not something we normally allow our grandchildren to do when we are out but I guess we all have different standards. I went up to the bar where the, I assume, landlord and landlady were stood talking to order some drinks. They carried on their conversation and ignored me completely so I move to the other end of the empty bar to ask one of the staff for some drinks.

Excellent find after a day in Winchester. We visited The King Charles on the way back from Winchester. We had our small dog and wheelchair user with us. It was no problem for them and they made us so welcome.

Out for an unplanned drive to see where it took us. We came upon The King Charles, so chose to stop for a spot of lunch.

We are regular customers to the bar and heard good things regarding the Thursday curry night so booked a table for us and some friends for 7.30. The buffet was already low and quickly ran out. Waited till 7.50 and when asked was told no problem as chef was aware, replacements were already being cooked and money was taken. Unfortunately the refills came out in drips and drabs so unable to experience the full curry buffet experience . No naan bread seen after 7.45 and limited curry options available. Won't be rushing back.

Called in for lunch on a bright sunny day as they had a large well laid out garden seating and an enclosed area for children. The pub has a modern well maintained presentation, friendly efficient staff and a good selection of beer and ales. The meal was well presented and most enjoyable. Prices were pretty good too.

Stopped her for lunch twice while fishing the river Itchen. Staff were friendly and efficient. We ate bacon sandwiches, which were like doorstops ! Lots of tasty back bacon, lettuce and tomato together with crisps and salad. Lovely quiet location and outdoor seating when the weather is sunny.
